I have to agree with the negative reviews here. It's a shame because this is a beautiful restaurant in a wonderful location. The tables are all bar high or we weren't given a choice so I felt uncomfortable seated so high. Spuds's needs to hire a capable cook. The food tasted as though it had been done in a microwave. The house salad was boring iceberg lettuce. I had the flounder and my husband had the crab cake. Both were seriously undercooked. My husband's crab cake was a meaty one but it seemed frozen in the middle. Our waitress didn't return until it came time to deliver the check or we would have complained. Our second drink order which was made at the time the food was delivered was never served. Being called Spud's, I though they might serve a decent baked potato but it also tasted days old.

I was on business in Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago and had the pleasure and joy of finding this gem of a restaurant. The view is incredible and the food was wonderful. I had a grilled trout with a hollandaise sauce that was phenominal! The sides of smashed potatoes and baby carrots was also VERY good. My meal was acoompanied by a surprisingly very good Pino Noir. In my past experiences, it is difficult to find a good wine at most casual restaurants. I would rate this restaurant superior in all areas. The wait staff was very attentive and it was a true dining pleasure.

Where do I begin? I'll end with one of the worst meals I've had in 6 mos. We ordered the fried seafood platter; my husband had the broiled platter.

I should have known when I looked at my plate that I was in for big trouble. The oysters were the size of quarters; previously frozen and reheated, I'm sure...ditto for the scallops. Even the garlic mashed potatoes were "brown in color"..what is that? The cole slaw was fine. His broiled platter was the worst ever. His piece of flounder looked and tasted like a gauze pad! He ordered sauteed mushrooms as a side...right out of can and dark brown! His honey glazed carrots were soggy...like 2 nights ago prepared.

The waiter (George) didn't even ask us once if our meal was o.k.? He knew we'd hated it and didn't want to hear about it. Also, what's with him sitting down at our table to chat and take our order? Hello? Are you family???

I thinks it's a tourist trap with a nice view... but a shame that being on the ocean, you can't get "fresh" seafood.. only previously frozen.

Shame on Spuds's...just ride by and go to Nance's or Bovine's or anyplace there have a parking lot full of cars. There's the key.

Food was awful, crab cakes were all filling no crab. Tuna was cold. Service was poor. The chef(s) could have done better by serving one or smaller sized crab cakes with more crab and less filling. Better crab cakes can be obtained from Publix or Bi-Lo. The tuna, though pan seared, should have been warm in the middle and not ice cold. Waitress could have cared less. Won't be back.

Food was awful. It looked good but the pan seared tuna was cold inside (I know it's supposed to be red inside but not cold despite what the waitress said when we complained). The crab cakes looked great, were huge but were mostly stuffing and not crab. I've had better crab cakes from Publix or Bi-Lo supermarkets. The chef would have been better served to reduce the size of the cakes or just made one and increased the amount of crab meat and reduced the filler. Big isn't always better. My husband had the fisherman's platter and he ate it but didn't say it was good or bad, probably just average. The only good thing was the potatoes. Won't return.

We all three ordered the seafood platter, with shrimp and flounder, the shrimp was overcooked and curled, the cole slaw was good, the flounder was not as good as even at Red Lobster. We will not eat here again. I guess you are paying for the view, which is very nice.

Some of my family from several areas of NC came to North Myrtle Beach for vacation. They had not vacationed together in a very long time. There was a great lineup for entertainment on the marshwalk in Murrell's Inlet, so we decided to head down to get a bite to eat and enjoy the evening on the beautiful waterfront. Being local, we heard many radio commercials about Spud's and decided to eat there since we did not have reservations for a party of 11. We should have known it was a bad sign when we could be seated immediately outside on the deck overlooking the waterway. Almost everyone ordered something different.....from the crab dip to the seafood combo. The waitress was accommodating. When we asked about the crab cake, she did say it was hit or miss.......either you like it or you don't since it did have alot of filler. A couple of us decided to order it anyway. It was mediocre at best.....comments were made that it was not the best, but not the worst they'd ever had. We did ask the waitress about the crab dip and she said it was good. When it came out......the best way I know to describe it is that it looked like it had previously been eaten.......served in a bread bowl running out everywhere. There was no sign of crab meat; if there was any, it was so chopped up you could not taste it.....it was horrible! There were 2 baskets on the noted on the menu together; shrimp or grouper basket. One of each was ordered. The shrimp basket came out with fries; the grouper basket did not. When we asked the waitress, she said the grouper basket did not come with fries. When I "fussed" about it, she did bring some.......that was the only "saving grace" of the meal since my boyfriend and I ordered the crab dip and grouper basket to share. The grouper fingers tasted like something you would get out of the frozen food section of the grocery store......no, wait......they were worse than that! The only item ordered from the menu that got a decent rating was some "jerked" flavored fish. Several said the only thing that was really good was the bottled beer......and we actually had problems getting what we wanted.....several wanted the new Miller Chill. The waitress said she thought they had it, but after several times going back and forth, they did not have it. It's a real shame the food is so bad since the location and atmosphere are so great! It's also a real shame since there are so many good restaurants in Murrell's Inlet; over half of the people in our party (family and local) had not had the Murrell's Inlet experience and it's sad to say, the dining experience literally left a bad taste in our mouths. Of the 11 people eating, 5 live locally. We love to try different restaurants since we have so many. We have a saying once we've tried them and do not like the food......been there, done that, check it off the list......and this one is certainly checked off the list. Waitress was good........atmosphere is great.........food is terrible!

Careful - don't be fooled by the articulate wait staff or the nice view - there are better choices for lunch in murrells inlet. We were disappointed on 8/16/07! Problems included - too long to get food - food not hot enough - way to long to have check taken care of .

When we seated at our table it took 10 min. for our server to arrive. By the time she arrive we knew what we were going to order. By the way this is our first time in this restaurant. As for the food the shrimp was tough. The shrimp was not even breaded just thrown into oil to cook. As for going back to the restaurant I don't think so.

Spud's is spectacular! Breath taking sunset. Inside Bar is large with wide selection drink menu. Sandy tiki bar area to sit back relax and enjoy a cold one & cool stage area for bands & plenty of dancing. Friendly service. Atmosphere is out of this world. Cool Crazy Sister Marina next door with cute gift shop & T-shirts. Don't forget to check out the Crazy Sister located on the back deck above the doors. Be sure to ask the for the Crazy Sister Ledge Story.

My wife, daughter and I had dinner at Spuds. The view of the marsh and the boats was beautiful. The food was a real disappointment. The ladies had Broiled Flounder and Scallops. They ended up with bland food that looked like it had been boiled for all the water around the fish on their plates. Normally the broiing process creates a carmelization on the food. Their fish was pure white. One of them got the sauteed mushrooms as a side dish. The mushrooms were canned and were only partially heated. My blackened Grouper was not pan seared blackened as much as just coated with a spice. All the pieces of fish were very thin. There are too many restaurants in Murrells Inlet to bother with Spuds. The dinner prices are $17.00 and up. For that money you should get a decent fish dinner, but not at Spuds.

We visited on Saturday, June 16, 2007 for dinner. Although the view is very nice, the food is not. The server was friendly but had room for improvement. My husband asked about the grits as a side order and the server told him she had no idea what was in the grits as she had never tried them. We were hoping that she'd find out but she never did. The bisque tasted like it was out of a can and the sauteed mushrooms surely were out of a can. The shrimp and scallops did not taste fresh (and we were right on the water where fishing boats come in!). My husband's crabcakes looked and tasted like something you can buy in the frozen section of any grocery store. Our 5-year-old son said he loved his grilled cheese which is great. My complaint about the kids' meals are that they cost $6 each. I believe that's the most we've spent yet for a kids' meal. Then again, all of our meals were overpriced for what we received. My in-laws who dined with us that evening visit Myrtle Beach frequently and they stated that they would only return to Spud's for drinks and the view. This was only my 2nd visit to the area and I was very disappointed that one of my dining experiences was spent at Spud's.

Restaurant has improved since opening but just dont get wasting that beautiful view and location by playing urban rock music. You look out and think you should be hearing Jimmy Buffett, beach music ,steel drums, etc. Cut the MTV off and show people fishing, or sports events. Music sure could mellow the place out. It would also help if they had some reasonably priced bar food. You give people a little to eat and the right atmosphere, you can make your money on the cold drinks. We would go back, but only daytime outside away from the music now playing.

I Love Spud's Restaurant!! The atmosphere, food, & staff was nothing but awesome. I dined there with my family and we had a great experience while enjoying the awesome view on the back deck. The Hushpuppies, cocktails, and food were all great. We also had a frozen drink at Spud's Tiki Bar, we sat with our feet in the sand while enjoying a frozen treat! My family and I will go back to Spud's and look forward to receving the same great service!

We stopped here for lunch on our way into Myrtle Beach. We liked it so well that we came back for dinner a couple days later. Both meals were very good. The portions were generous, the service good, the atmosphere great. This time of year is not peak season and that may have contributed to our not having to wait to be seated. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

My family and I were in Murrels inlet on a Friday night and forgot to make reservations. We thought we were in luck when we found Spud's, not only was there no wait but we practically had the restaurant all to ourselves! The menu consisted of fried fish and....well broiled fish. The server was very friendly and explained that the special was a salt and pepper grilled grouper. I am not sure if this is a southern dish, but He was also very honest in warding my wife away from the crab cakes, which she explained many customers do not like as they have better crab cakes at the local grocery store! My family and I still enjoyed ourselves despite the food. The view was very nice from the deck. However we will not return there are too many great restaurants in Murrels Inlet. Next time I will make reservations!!!

We dined on the deck, the server was friendly, food took way too long to come out. We never got the bread we were promised. I ordered a martini and it took 30 minutes to get it and it came out with no garnish. My son ordered fried shrimp and there were six on his plate. Grouper was overcooked. Portions too small and food was cold. Great view, too bad about the quality of the food. Would only go back for drinks and the view.

Great potential, beautiful restaurant, great service, bad food. Food is very bland, and uncreative. The menu ranges from fried fish to a potato covered mahi, which turned out to be a filet covered with a greasy hashbrown. The appetizer and desert werent any better. The appetizer, a crab dip, tasted like a mixture of cream and cheese. There wasnt a hint of crab taste or meat. Murrells inlet has many wonerful restaurants, unfortunately this one is run without an executive chef and it shows.

Most of our party of nine (six adults) ordered a combination of flounder with shrimp or scallops. While the quality of what we got varied, the quantity of food for the price was pathetic. The flounder was no thicker than two quarters stacked together and no larger than the palm of my hand. One piece was all each person recieved. I got five scallops and the shrimp eaters all got five shrimp. My wife's potato was cold. The kids meals were ok but the shrimp was fried tough.

This restaurant has great atmosphere, great service and a super location. However, for $16.95 for our entrees, we will not return.
