Read the review from Askin, NC, I'm embarrassed that your from NC. Most likely you are not. HOTO's is a great local and vacationers hang out especially on Sunday afternoon. Music is awesome. People are friendly. Food is good and Beer is cold. What more could you ask for on the Beach.

As "snow birds" we found this oasis while sitting on the beach one day in Feb. It was about 72 degrees. Out of no where came the sound of music. We investigated and found HOTO's deck, with 2 man band (who were great) , behind a beautiful sand dune, on the ocean, drinks in hand, under full sun. Our waitress made us feel like we were regulars. The food ordered was good bar food. We love HOTO's

The city should shut this dump down, nothing but rednecks and trailer trash. Good place for an AA booth though, last time I was there a guy was urinating in the men's room sink. Class act, have another drink.

Yeah, folks. This isn't a place for your youngin's. It's a place for adults who want to party a little. Seems to be a mix of locals and vacationers. A few of the reviews make out like HOTO is some kind of Roadhouse kinda place where brawls break out every ten minutes and everyone leaves with with a bloody nose and black eye. This, I assure you, is nonsense from my experience. Now, this isn't the place to go into if you have a tendency to point your nose in the air and complain about anything that doesn't meet country club standards. And if you act like a jerk, I could totally see you getting your @$$ handed to you in a Styrofoam box. The point is that HOTO's is a place to go party, have some beer and couple of shots, burp loudly, and have a laugh. There's not much in the way of pretensions. There's no dress code to speak of. The food won't knock your socks off. It's typical bar food and you shouldn't expect anything more. I had some wings that were so-so, but I didn't mind. I wasn't really there for the food. I would also suggest that while it has a good-time feel, this place doesn't really cater to college-aged folks. It feels more intended for those who are older but still like to party. In the end, it's kind of a dive bar. It's a little dingy and the music is a little loud, and the local regulars seem to enjoy leaving with a good snoot-full. But there's nothing wrong with that.

Went with my 80 year old mother and her boyfriend (She calls him her dancing partner - LOL). They danced to SeaCruz. They got special mention by SeaCruz and the crowd clapped. They loved the attention. We have a condo next door. Even if it wasn't next door, we would drive 30 minutes to get to HOJO's. Also, love the pancake house across the street. Will be back, again and again.

With all of todays tourist traps one can find Harold's on the Ocean (HOTO'S) is one of those locals favorites that we cannot get enough of. This is no place for ultra conservatives and stuffed shirts. It is where the waitstaff call you honey, the food is usually very good and the music is rocking, especially on weekends. It is a place and attitude to savor. It's our cherry groveville. You add Coastline, Holiday Band, Craig Willard, and others we we have OUR slice of Heaven.

My wife is from NY and I'm from SC/NC. Like everyone said, it's a place to let your hair down, drink some bev's....maybe a shot for me....and enjoy the view. We have 4 kids under 4 including triplet three year olds and we're smart enough to leave them with Grandma and Grandpa. Yeah, people are kinda slow to warm up, but once they heard me order a Jager, put on some Chairmen of the Board, we suddenly were in the company of friends. Gotta know your surroundings....it's called social awareness. Btw....the tall guy actor looking bartender knows the cools spots and the homemade soups rock.

Its not a food place with a bar, its a bar with food! If you don't like it then go the f!ck somewhere else. Im tired of you uptight c!!ksuckers talking sh!t. F!ck you!

Vacationers need to realize that this a local bar. I have seen a couple of fights there but it is usually some drunks from Ohio. If you are not a local, then you should probably stay away. This is not and I repeat NOT, a place for kids! It's a BAR with BAR food, smokers, loud music & power drinkers! For vacationers, go down 17 south to the pancake house or Crabby Mike's.

Basically just a bar, not for kids, not for anyone who wants to sit and have table service. I was in during January and enjoyed a couple of beers and a two man band. Yes this place would seen to have a lot of potential for what some would want, but it is a place for a beer, a cigarette and a little fun and what is wrong with that? We have too many trying to tell us what is proper for our society or country. Yes it could be a little cleaner or more better service. If you want a cheap beer and some tv and a game of pool and maybe a band at times this is your place.

HEY People.... your at the beach! We thought we were a few condos down when we booked our condo though Elliott Rentals (shameless plug), but we were right next door...very nice. We had SO MUCH FUN all week. A band almost everyday on the deck, beach music in the beach sun, life doesn't get much better. Kid (teenager) friendly, and the people were fun. Live people; don't be so darn uptight all the time so you can't enjoy life? Got my tee shirt and great memories, I'LL BE BACK! P.S. Try the loaded nachos, there not five star, but 4.9 stars will work when your at the beach and enjoying life.

Was there last year and look forward to coming back again the end of July. My son and I went there to watch the NASCAR race on a Sunday and I didn’t want to leave but the wife and younger son wanted some beach family time on our second day of vacation. We left there with some new NASCAR friends. They have a band everyday. This is a FUN beach bar for the common person. Can’t wait to get there on the 26th of July for the race.

If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton, this aint your place. Ive been coming here for a long time and have to make a daily visit while in NMB. Best damned cheeseburger ive ever had, friendly, attentive staff that tries to make you feel at home. Most of the bad reviews that I have read were from those above the Mason-Dixon line. Guess they just dont understand how we do things down here. I would suggest a cookie cutter on restaraunt row Greensborn,N.C.

Have been coming to Myrtle and Hoto's for many years now and I can only say everytime we all enjoy both. There is plenty of room in the dining area, and at the bar, the staff is upbeat and helpful, and the deck is a great place to relax and enjoy the live music. It it a place that has a local flavor, normal bar noise and music, not a place to go and eat dinner with a large family, or in a suit and tie. We all love it and will spend many nights there each year!!!!

Hi. I'm Tex and a long distance trucker. I've got a cottage at NMB but stay on the road most of the time. Whenever I get to NMB I hit Hoto's.. Harold, Josh, Big Bob--my kind of people. Always have a blast and been going there for the last 10 years. Food is great. Laid back atmosphere and the staff can't be beat. I'm originally from Texas and wear my hat, buckle, and boots and, needless to say I get a lot of stares, but never meet a stranger there. A great place to have a good time, have a Bud, and shoot a little pool.

I could only review the atmosphere, because we high-tailed it outta there in a hurry! Our family of 5, two adults and 3 teenagers, walked in it was like a scene in a badass movie. The entire place turned around and stared at us. If the music stopped playing it would've been a perfect scene! It really puts a bad tone to Cherry Grove, an otherwise classy place. The town should do something about this. After this experience, I wouldn't let the kids walk past it to Boulineaus.

I had finished eating around 2PM and went to wash my hands. There was a line for the restrooms and a sign that read Ladies only on the Mens restroom. There were 2 other guys waiting in line and a guy wearing a staff T-shirt walked from behind the bar and told the 3 of us that there were port-a-potties for the men and those restrooms were off limits for guys. I said I just wanted to wash my hands and his reply was "Use the ocean. If I catch you going in the restroom to wash your hands you will be thrown out."

I am in the process of contacting the Health Department in SC for the dirty conditions (Which includes cats walking across the tables)and for not having the proper facilities for washing hands in a business that prepares and serves food. Whether it was a one day thing or not.

We love this place and eat and party there at least twice a week when we're in NMB area. The burgers are great, the beer is cold and you can't beat that ocean view!

As for it being a little redneck, if it will keep all you pretentious yuppies from Charlotte and Raleigh out that suits the heck out of me!

For families, the atmosphere on the deck is perfectly suitable during the day but at night it is more of an grown up hangout....might I suggest Chuckee Cheese??

I've been visiting HOTO's for about 4 years now. I am very disturbed by the dork from Kernersville, NC and the idiotic review he/she left here on this website. When you went back and ordered two more beers and another soft drink it was $2 cheaper because you got a free refill on the drink dumbass! As for the food quality: did anything about the building's appearance make you think they claimed to be French Fine Dining? You are exactly the kind of person nobody wants in their vicinity so please don't got back there because I certainly will.

Restaurant was very crowded when we entered, finally made our way out to the patio and found a seat. Sat there for 10-15 minutes and was never approached by a waitress or bartender, so we went to the bar to order drinks and lunch. When the food came out an hour later, cheese sticks were cold and the steamed shrimp was over cooked (imagine trying to chew a good sized pencil eraser dipped in cocktail sauce). Went to the bar to get 2 beers and a coke refill and it was 8 dollars, went back later and ordered the same thing with a different bartender and it was 2 dollars less. Not enough waitresses or support staff plus one female bartender was very rude to a couple of our guests. Entertainer was good, location was great but management is obviously lacking.

Hoto's is the greatest bar in Myrtle Meach! All of my gang has been going there for almost 20 years straight. Hoto's is our first visit when we come on vacation (every year) and we pretty much stay there all week. Back in 2005 my now husband proposed to me on the back deck. It was great! the first song on the jukebox we play every year is one by david allen coe. The food is great, the atmosphere is one of a kind, the bartenders are great. Hoto's is our favorite place anywhere, ever!.

This is place is awesome! If you are looking for a small town hang out, this is it. But best of all, it is right on the ocean. They have some of the best shrimp I have ever eaten. It is not a fancy resturant, but a locals hang out and bach bar, and if it is good enough for the locals.....!! I miss these from when I lived in Florida. It's small so you have to come early and get a seat, because it is always packed when a good band is there. They have great entertainment on Sunday afternoons. We ALWAYS go when THE CRAIG WOOLARD BAND is playing. They are there the 2nd Sunday of every month during the season. Best band ever!! You always have a great time at HOTO's (as the locals call it) and The CWB!! I Love Beach Music, The CWB, and Hotos!!!

This place is a disgusting redneck bar. It is full of trash looking for trouble. The place is so dirty I can't imagine eating there. The "service" appears to be a bunch of local rednecks who bring in all of their friends to get drunk while they work. It is a real shame, great location.

We visited Harolds during bike week. After reading the previous good reviews we were disapointed with this place. We walked through the dimmly lit bar area and headed out to the patio. It was a beautifull day so we wanted to enjoy it. The bartender at the outside bar was quick to get us a couple of beers and take our food order. Everything behind the bar was dirty and there was a strong smell of vomit in the area. Bad start! We sat at a table and waited for our food order. It was not busy here but it took 45 minutes to get our food. There was a group of locals outside that looked like they were from a local methadone clinic. Not the nice beach atmosphere we read about in previous reviews. The food was the standard greasy stuff served in a basket. We ate and left quickly and probably won't be back.

We came in on sat. Afternoon april 28 during sos. We had a ball !. The customers requested that the band be allowed to perform an extra hour and the management and staff accomodated this. They also allowed an extra half hour beyond this. It's refreshing to find a place that is willing to acede to their customers wishes. The food is awsome and reasonably priced. Because of the atmosphere created on sat., we returned on sun. The band was a family called Boys and the Babe. If anything, they were better than the one before. We will make hotos a must when we return to mb and we come often. Nowayray.

If you're looking for a "hangout" type of place with good food and just your basic blue collar type people, this is it. The food is awesome, the beer is cold, the boiled shrimp are great and they have the BEST Reuben sandwich ! It's just nice to come in off the beach, not have to dress up and sit outside at the ocean with a cold beer and a pan of shrimp.

This is NOT and I repeat NOT a family place. We went last week at 12 noon coming in off the beach and the place was full of loose cannons and power drinkers. I don't know what type of environment people think is "family" but this place is NOT one of them. We were seated 20 minutes and never got waited on, never even got a second glance, we got up and left and no one even blinked at our leaving. Not a very nice atmosphere at all. Sorry HOTOs but I really did want this to work, as you are adjacent to where we beach but NEVER again, very rough atmosphere.

We visited HOTO's last week because of the reviews on this site. We are a family w/2 kids under 10 and there were other families present with their kids so it's not just an adult bar. Nice tables and chairs on the ocean front deck. Dress is casual (some come right off the beach). We had Burgers (I swear were 1 inch thick) fries, onion rings -that were the best I ever tasted- and a couple of cold brews. We loved it so much we had to go back the next night!!!! HOTO's will now be a part of our yearly beach experience.

Love everything about it, the cool chill in the air was even ok. We stopped by on our way home from a great Myrtle Beach weekend of fun. You guessed it, Harold's, the atmosphere as well as the food he has to offer is just, well, we just think it is the greatest!! See you there, Shirley & Tommy

Service and the artist of the day varies greatly from day to day during peak season. Sometimes service is good, but other times, plan to go inside to complete your own order and service.
