Here is a review from a restaurant professional.
Wait time 1hr 20 minutes, Quoted 20 minutes. 15 minutes after being seated we had to ask a server to take our order. We were not in her section, but she took care of us anyway. We orderd Apps, salads and entrees. We were served Salads first then our Apps then our entrees right on top of our Apps. I had $23.. grouper I do not believe it was grouper the potato was cold as was the veg. I sent it back and did not get anything else. No Manager visit to our table?
ALL this being said I would go back and get a burger, cold beer and listen to the music, But Never for a special ocasion or for anything more than pub food. ref: 11789 |

I'm a local and I like this place for lunch although the last time we went we tried the crab dip and it wasn't very good. The beef tenderloin app. was wonderful though. It's a good price for lunch and the food is good. If you want loud partying and a band playing, go for dinner. I usually don't because I don't want loud music while I'm eating but it is a party at night. I like this place fine and go there a lot. ref: 9639 |

OK - here's the REAL skinny on this restaurant, coming from locals. The reason the Dead Dog gets so many mixed reviews is that this place is really primarily a "Saloon". I admit that the couple of times my husband and I actually ate dinners here, the food was pretty much average. But being a "saloon", and in a setting that is as beautiful as you can find, food is just not the main thing to come here for. Basics like burgers and similar platters are fine, just don't go for the fancier meats or seafood. Here's the deal - this is an EXCELLENT place to come for Happy Hour, or if you just want to eat some appetizers with drinks at any time. During 4 or 5 winter months, they have a deal where all appetizers are half price from 5-7 PM. Most of the appetizers are good, especially the tenderloin bites, which other reviewers have mentioned. So we love to sit at the outdoor bar (indoor one's small but nice, too), look out over the harbor, and make a light dinner of about two appetizers each over a couple of hours. That's what the Dead Dog is best at - not "foodie" meals. The bands that play on weekends at about 8-8:30 are good too, and better than at Creek Ratz next door. ref: 9256 |

This is fun place to eat with alot of atmoshere, nice view of the marsh and you can take a wonderful stroll along the baordwalk when you are through.
This bar/restaurant has some good live music and dancing so therefore it is loud. Good place to with a crowd. Or to just hang out at the bar. ref: 9211 |

My advice to anyone thinking of going to the Dog, eat before you go and keep cold beer in your car because the bartender will ignore you even if you are the only party at the bar. Has happened to me way too many times. ref: 7828 |

Please avoid this restaurant! We returned two of our 4 meals because they were inedible. The waiter recommended the blackened Mahi Mahi with fettucinini Alfredo. The pasta was way overcooked and runny. It had no flavor at all. The fish also had no taste. My son's hamburger, ordered well-done was raw. My husband ordered french fries and got onion rings. Our waiter disappeared for 15 minutes so we had to call the manager. To his credit, the manager did discount our meals but it wasn't a pleasant experience. ref: 7568 |

My family and I visited the location on Highway 17 tonight and WOW----we were VERY disappointed to say the least. After all the good reviews we were excited to try this place. First of all, we had a party of 8 (6 adults and 2 children) and it took 45 minutes to get a table - no biggie - if most of the restaurant hadnt been EMPTY!! There were SEVERAL tables, but we waited. Then we were told that they will not do seperate checks....that is in order to get the automatic 18% tip - and what kind of service do you get when that happens?? The kind we got-----CRAPPY! As far as the food, I'd rather eat a "dead dog" then to eat the food we had - not to mention it was cold and VERY overpriced!! I am very sad that I put my family through that!!! ref: 6692 |

I was not impressed with this place. A friend that lives in Murrell's Inlet asked us to meet him there so we did and very sorry that we did. Our waiter must have been new. He was not very attentive, forgot several things, and seemed more interested in the things around him than the people sitting in front of him. I ordered a $17.00 dish that should have came with a salad and 2 sides (I never received those), and after asking about them I finally asked that they be taken off the bill. He comes back to say he has taken off a mixed drink that was not on my bill anyway. Finally after not knowing how to remedy the problem he just takes the whole meal off my bill which is not what I was asking for but whatever. I just wanted out of there. I won't return to this place again!! ref: 6688 |

I am a local and have been a customer of the Dead Dog Saloon for the past four years. I have always brought friends or out of town guests to the restaurant. On my last visit I noticed the menu had changed and food portions and quality has gone down. I had the chicken salad sandwich - nothing to write home about - very bland and the cole slaw was warm & $5.50 for a glass of house wine! That's crazy. There are other places close by with not necessarily the same atmosphere with better value. I don't mind paying if you get what you pay for. ref: 6641 |

Have been vacationing in Myrtle for the past 4 years and have made the Dead Dog Saloon a regular stop. People were real friendly and the best burgers around. The atmosphere on the water is a nice touch.
Got to get the shirt, it is a real conversation piece when I'm out and about back here in the north. Will be back. ref: 6288 |

We ate there on New Year's Eve and plan to never go back. I cannot understand the good reviews here because that was certainly not our experience!!
We arrived very early and were seated immediately. The hushpuppies, which we had to ask for, were cold. My sister's grouper was NOT cooked, my pasta in the shrimp scampi was cold, and the bread served with the pasta was BLAH. The drinks, served in small plastic cups, were awful and expensive. The waitress was not attentive, we waited for ever to order drinks. Our total bill was $76 for the two of us. I felt completely ripped off. We had PLASTIC baskets and a big roll of paper towels. You certainly don't get what you pay for there.
The "entertainment" was the Mullets, which I saw described as "South Carolina's Second Best Band." If that's all you have to offer, please come up to North Carolina.
The seafood is far better in Calabash and Morehead City and Beaufort, NC.
We were incredibly disappointed with the Dead Dog. Maybe it should rest in peace. ref: 4587 |

I head to the Murrells Inlet area every few months and I make it a point to stop at Dead Dog with my friends. Have been there about half dozen times and haven't been disappointed yet, including a stop in for drinks/appetizers and then again for lunch on my most recent trip. On each visit we have either sat in the bar area out back or on the deck. The food has been good on each occasion, and the wait staff is super. No complaints from me. It is what it is... a nice place to kick back, have a couple of cocktails and bite to eat, and enjoy the atmosphere & environment. ref: 3752 |

We visited the Dead Dog July 4th 2006 while waiting to be seated at Drunken Jacks, which was going to be about an hour and 1/2 wait.We actually went up to the bar to get some beers while waiting and were listening to the music. We checked out a menu and decided the food and prices looked attractive so we put our names in and decided to dine here. The prime rib was excellent and the rib eye steak was as good as I have ever eaten. I recommend this restaurant highly and frankly think it is a better value for your money than Drunken Jack's. The walk along the marsh with a cold one is beautiful and relaxing while waiting to be seated. ref: 2879 |

My family and I visited your resturant on June 28th, 2006 in great hopes of a good meal. and service. We a were greeted and seated promptly and had a very sweet and personalbe waitress. All six of us, five adults and one child gave the waitress our dinner selections. She brought our drinks and appetizers to us as we waited for our meals. We then waited over hour for our food and had to asked our waitress several times about our food. She went back to the kitchen and asked each time and was told that it would be out shortly. Each wait became longer and we were about to leave, and she continually apologized fot the delay. We finally got our food a hour and 45 min later. We proceeded to eat and our food and it was luke warm and my husbands food was hot on he outside but the inside but it was cold in the middle. We sent it back and it came back cold again and it still wasn't very good. Mine was luke warm and only ate a few bite of mine. We spent $140.00 on food that was of poor quality and that the resturant doesn't take the pride that is needed fro thier customers. We had a great waitress, but I hope the managment improves along with thier food. My rating is below average to poor. Needless to say we won't return. We were on vacation and loved where we stayed in Garden City, but unfortunatetly, we had bad food and service at the Dead Dog. Very unsatisfied customers. ref: 2777 |

My husband and I went to Dead Dog for dinner. I had the crab cake dinner and my husband had the prime rib dinner. This was the worst meal I have ever had. The crab cakes were burnt, with way too much filler and way too little crab, the mashed potatoes were horrible and the green beans came out of a can or were frozen. My husband said that his prime rib was the worst he has ever had. I would never go back for dinner again but I would go back for lunch and stick with the hamburgers. The view was wonderful and the staff was very efficient and friendly. ref: 2538 |

Stopped by here for lunch on a rainy Friday afternoon. Still able to sit outside on the deck, as it is covered. Had the sauteed grouper sandwich that was delicious - great seasonings. Also, the oyster po' boy was very good. I have been to the Dead Dog for drinks on a previous trip and sat at the outside bar and enjoyed myself then... the bands seem to have a reputation for being good, and the band I saw that particular Friday night did not disappoint. Will definitely visit again. ref: 1460 |

We were very excited about the reviews on this website only to find out that the outdoor seating that everyone raves about, is beautiful, but the band plays all night. The music selection was good, but very, very loud. The waitress was excellent and was very attentive and polite, even when a dish came out wrong. What really appalled us was when the manager came over and told us that the meal was cooked right and if you went inside to the kitchen, in the correct light, you would see. It took a little coaxing, but she finally agreed to remake the meal correctly. The food was alright, but we left with a bad taste in our mouth. ref: 932 |
