We used to like this place and would substitute it for Carolina Roadhouse since it's owned by the same group. We went last June and it was a disaster. They do call ahead seating and since we had a large party, we felt it would be a good idea to use it. Our party arrived about ten minutes before our scheduled time and watched group after group get seated before us. About 30 minutes after our scheduled time we finally asked if we were going to get seated and was told it would be shortly. Twenty minutes later we had to ask again and let them know we were even willing to split up if they needed us to. Don't know why they didn't ask us before then if we could do that since we had waited so long. Most places will ask if they are having trouble, but this one just let us wait and wait. Much to our surprise after we were seated, we were informed that they had ran out of their signature item which was ribs. That was what the majority of our group came there to eat. My daughter ordered some kind of pasta dish that wasn't even edible. I ordered a beer that never arrived. Refills were sparse. Just an overall bad experience and a sign of a poorly managed restaurant. California Dreaming used to be excellent, but now I will drive the extra few miles and eat Carolina Roadhouse.

My family enjoyed greatly the Veterans Day meal special on Nov.12 for dinner. Many restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area offered meals for free or reduced price(mostly during lunch hours) for Veterans over the weekend and/or Monday, but the special given by C.D. in Surfside was far and away the best and most gratifying. As a military retiree, I was treated very well, and truly felt gratified and honored by the staff. We made reservations for 5 p.m. and were seated right away. The waitress Vicky was great; very attentive helpful and warm. Food has always been outstanding there. Thanks for a great experience.

I was just at Sprindmaid Beach Resort for a Womens Conference, May 17 to May 20. Other than the wonderful breakfast we had ate Merlins, we at every day at California Dreaming. It was wonderful. Our last day there was the All you can eat Ribs and we had a party of around 34 people. The staff was great.

We are wondering if the economy is affecting this restaurant or what. We came on Valentines Day and were shocked at what we got...We have been coming to the restaurant incuding downtown and this one foe 20 years. The salad is to die for, the prime rib unlike any other..For starters the sald had some kind of red tomato taking over the dish and there was hardly enough honey mustard which i know i coulf have asked for more...The 11 oz prime rib was skinny and small and nowhere what we are used to getting. I tried to blow it off to the wife but she was upset as it was..We may try the store downtown to see if it is the same thing. I know in this world they say nothing stays the same forever, but we really like this place...

We are locals and have been going to California Dreaming since it opened. Occasionally we go in to get a california dreamin salad to take home because my husband & I still work part time in the area. I have asked them on 10 trips aat least to please include extra salad dressing with our salads. I have even told them we would pay for the extra if it is a problem. It is a huge salad & not very enjoyable eating when there is not enough dressing on it, might as well just stay at home & eat a head of lettuce. I am so discusted with their service I am looking now to contact corporate. We have to toss half the salad out because there is never enough dressing on it to enjoy it. The include 4 little plastic to go containers but there is a spoonful of dressing in each one, they don't even fill them up. I have worked in fine dining all my life as a server & I find their service terrible diana . Kraft ` myrtle beach .

I visited this resturant with a friend and my daughter for lunch. My friend had eaten at the California Dreaming in Columbia and was telling us about how delicious the food was. We ordered a Creamed Spinach appetizer..which was absolutely terrible..we asked for extra cheese sauce trying to add some taste, but it didnt help..We only ate a little bit of the appetizer and the waiter never asked if anything was wrong with the food. My daughter ordered a salad with Shrimp and my friend and I ordered a filet mignon sandwich..We were eating and my daugther food a huge bug in her salad in which none of us could eat anymore of our food either. The waiter asked the manager to come to see the bug and he asked if she wanted something else and she replied ..NO..well I couldn't eat my food either..but no one was concerned enough to ask us why we had not eaten the Spinach Dip nor our food..If the food is not tasty and if someone has found a bug ...would you continue eating..I don't think so.. Her meal was taken off the bill, but that was the only cost..The food was terrible along with finding the huge bug,was enough to make you not want to eat and then I paid $30.00 for food that was HORRIBLE! The manager never asked why we had not eaten our food either...I guess he doesn't care if customers return or not! I have visited California Dreaming in other cities and I have never been dissatified with my food until now. Now I understand why the resturant was not packed for lunch! Marie Eaddy

We vacation each year at the beach. California Dreaming is one of our favorite restaurants to return to each year. We ate dinner a couple of nights ago and it was great again. My husband ordered the ribs, which we all loved. And you can't find a better salad anywhere in Myrtle Beach. I had the California Dreaming Salad with the ham/turkey/cheese - it's huge and comes with the croissant. We had a great time and can't wait to come back next year! We had a great waitress who was very informative, but didn't crowd us as we ate. Love this place!

I love this resturant and have recommended it to everyone I know. I live in York, SC and drive an hour and a half to Greenville, SC just to eat at this resturant. I normally come to Myrtle Beach once or twice a year and everytime I come I have to go to Cal. Dreaming. I love the knob hill chicken and the salads. Not to mention the bread that will melt in your mouth.

We visit this restaurant frequently and have always been very happy. However, we notice that the service and quality was way down for this visit. There was 6 of us and all meals were fair except for two of them. If the server had come back when we first started the meal we would have asked for different meals but the server never showed up until the end of meal We were offered dessert at that point for our poor quality but none of us eat dessert. We will go back and hope our expereience will be better.

I decided to grab a quick bite of lunch at California Dreaming on my way out of town. I was greeted by a nice young girl who took me to my table. The server introduced himself and got my drink order. I ordered the California Dreaming chicken sandwich and a bowl of baked potato soup. The food was delivered quickly and still hot. Usually soup comes to the table luke warm, but the baked potato soup was still really hot. My sandwich tasted great and the overall experience was enjoyable. Being a single diner, I am sometimes hesistant to eat at a table in a restaurant, because I don't want to get bad service for just being by myself. The server was great, treated me very nicely and was attentive to everything I needed. I also liked how open the entire restaurant is and the bright windows are a nice touch. Also, on the way to the restroom (which was very clean) I walked past a window that looks into the kitchen and was impressed at how clean it looked. I will defintely be back.

California Dreaming is a stop that we make everytime we visit the Grand Strand. A BEAUTIFUL restaurant - surprisingly much bigger on the inside than it appears. Have never had a problem with promptness of servers, quality of food, and have NEVER had to wait to be seated. Our waitress from our most recent visit was not the most knowledgable or attentive to our needs, but the food was still great. Highly recommend placing this on your agenda.

In the last two weeks I had a steak at Ruby Tuesdays and California Dreaming.... Both were over cooked... The manager at Ruby Tuesdays apologized for the mistake and got another one very quickly and also did not charge me for my meal... The manager at California Dreaming apologized and got another one so slowly that everyone had finished eating at my table and charged me for the steak... What Have I Learned.... Ruby Tuesday wants you back as a customer and California Dreaming management just want to see how many people they can run thru and not customer retention... CentraArchy restaurants(owner of California Dreaming) and Greg Greenbaum(president of CentraArchy restaurants) should look to Ruby Tuesdays for customer service

California Dreaming is one of our favorite restaurants at the beach. I have a picky family and they have something to please everyone. FABULOUS salads for me, great steaks for my husband and my 2 teenage boys can always find something they like. This is not your typical beach restaurant, it's a little more upscale, but still casual.

We love California Dreaming and all of her sister restaurants. We always eat here whenever we are in Myrtle Beach. Our group of 5 were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately. We expected at least a short wait at 5:45 on a week night. We were further impressed to find that there is now an earlybird menu available on weeknights from 4-6. We were delighted that we were not 15 minutes later. Four of us could not pass up the prime rib for $9.95. The servings were slightly smaller but enough to satisfy everyone. Our waiter was polite and efficient, dinner was excellent as always. Our dining experience was top notch in every aspect! One more reason we love to visit Myrtle Beach.

There were 4 of us for dinner during December 2008; the food was very good and the service excellent. However, the reason we chose California Dreaming was because of the lovely Christmas decorations the reataurant had last year. What a disappointment to find NO Christmas decorations at all - reportedly because the CEO feared Christmas decorations would offend someone. Hogwash!! Maybe the restaurant shouldn't serve pork, or any kind of meat products for fear of offending Vegetarians... etc...

We visited this restaurant for the first time about two years ago. It was excellent! We ordered the baby back ribs.We also ordered strawberry daiquaris! They were great! We were there again in January, 2008. Same order, same great food and drinks. We brought friends in August,2008. We all had ribs which were not good as before. We had the strawberry daiquaris! They were great! Well, we were all back this past weekend and so looking forward to the drinks,BUT, what we got was DISGUSTING!!! It ruined our entire meal which was not near what we had experienced before! It wasn't any fault of the waiter. He explained the new machine but with that said, don't look for us back! We like a good daiquari with good food but we got niether this night!

We went to the Surfside one. This restaurant is a favorite of my friends. I usually get the chicken strips with a loaded baked potatoe and although the dish is very good, it does tend to get old after a while. Their house salads are pretty good with the honey drizzled croissant. I ordered something different last night; the parmesan chicken. Although the creamed spinach was excellent, shredded parmesan on top is really not neccesary, the parmesan chicken was very bland. It didn't have any flavor. The marinara sauce was disappointing as well. But the real reason I wrote this comment was to preach the good word about their cheesecake. Let me attach this side note. I'm not a big fan of cheesecake because usually when it is served at restaurants it is pretty much disgusting. My friend ordered the cheesecake and I was like what the hell I know I'll hate it but I'll try it anyway. Maybe I'll be surprised. I asked the server, who was excellent by the way *ask for Sarah*, what kind of toppings they had. I was really in the mood for strawberries. And she gave me a funny look and said oh we don't have toppings; it is really good by itself. I was not convinced and I contemplated the cancellation of my order. But when she brought it out I could feel my jaw drop and my eyes get as big as saucers. The piece of cheesecake was HUGE. It is well worth the $7 or $8. And I'm telling you this cheesecake was soooo good that if someone would have told me that a little old grandma was in the back making them fresh I would have believed them in a heartbeat. It was so big I had to take it home but when I ate the rest today it was just as good as when I received it orginally.Yes, it was that good, no joke. Try it, you will not be dissapointed.

Our party of 6 decided to eat here to get something other than seafood for a variety. We ate here last year and enjoyed it and came back again (week of 8/24/08). The prime rib was excellent, the blackened chicken alfredo was really good and a very large portion, the grilled chicken was tasty, and the club sandwich was huge. The creamed spinach was disappointing as it had shredded parmesan cheese on it that was very hard. We went early and definitely missed the crowds. It was quiet. We'll go back next vacation.

My Husband and I went for our anniversary and it was wonderful. It was a very upscale, formal yet comfortable restaurant. The food was some of the best I have ever had. We have been to a lot of nice places but this is one of the best. I highly recommend it, but be ready to pay the price for the good service and quality. Two people with dinner and a couple of alcholic beverages cost about, $70 - $100.

A good experience with some disappointing and very important shortcomings.

First, my prime rib was not hot or even warm. That is a problem. Also, there was way too much untrimmed fat surrounding the meat portion of the prime rib cut, and the amount of meat was disappointingly small in proportion to fat. I also have a complaint about the creamed spinach. It was good, but why must it have melted cheese in it? Folks, is it so important that every dish and every item have as much fat content as possible? The spinach would have been way better without a moltem mass of parmesan cheese in it. My wife's baked potato had the same problem -- too much cheese!! In fact, I think her potato had butter, sour cream and two types of cheese on it. Are these restaurants owned by a cabal of cardiologists, or what? Get hip, restaurant owners!! A growing body of the populace is sick and tired of assaulting their coronary arteries with this onslaught of fat and cholesterol..

The coffee was too strong, though acceptable for restaurant fare. The dessert selection was very limited -- only about four items. On the other hand, the liquor, mixed and tropical drink selection is vast..

I would go to California Dreaming again. All in all, I think it's quite a good place. I'll order differently next time, and please trim some of the fat off the prime rib!

We ate at the new location in North Myrtle Beach near Colonial Mall. It just opened about a week or two ago. The waitress was excellent, very attentative to our every need and made sure we were totally satisfied. The food was fantastic. I had a southwwestern shrimp on a spinach wrap. The portion was great, the size of the shrimp were nice, and the flavor was fantastic! A great lunch for 8-10.00 per person. They had an outside area which may be hot in the middle of summer but it was very enjoyable the day we went.
