Arrived without a reservation, we were told it would be an hour before we could be seated. Strange as the restaurant was at least half empty. Ordered take out; no one came in to be seated while we waited. Food average at best. Staff very rude. We will not be back.

We are local Murrells Inlet peeps and we love the Blue Elephant. We have always had excellent service and great food. The atmosphere is always pleasant with light music in the back ground. The staff is knowledgeable and always helpfull when you cant dediede on a dish or the hot/spicy level of the food. Watch out for those peppers! If they say hot.....it's hot :-) Give it a try if you are visiting the inlet!

A restaurant that is a little Asian vacation away from the Low Country vibe. You will find the absolute best authentic Thai food. It is better than I've had in the large metropolitan cities. Pad Thai is such a cliche these days - this is the place to try other Thai offerings - ask the server what to order if you are new to the cuisine. The service is friendly and intricate-table cloths, multiple plates for courses and dishes. Even hot tea is a ceremony. The dinnerware itself is exotic, elegant. I highly disagree with the person who rated the food below average--this is a high quality place, the food is prepared exceptionally well; they take much pride in their cooking. Don't be put off by the blue box exterior-the inside is pretty with Asian artwork. Do call ahead for reservations - this restaurant is small and popular so the dining room gets packed, even a little tight. It's a bit more expense than a strip mall Thai restaurant but it's worth it.

I don't normally take the time to look up a restaurant on the internet to write a review, but I actually view this as a public service to let others know about this restaurant. I have read the other reviews, yet our experience was decidedly bad. Firstly, the prices are incredibly higher than other most Thai restaurants, so we were really expecting something nice. $14 for pad thai with only tofu. I was told that pad thai with shrimp only would be $19, and a combo of shrimp and chicken would be $14, but that only included *2* shrimp. I was amazed that they actually take the time to make sure to *only* include exactly 2 pieces of shrimp. For app I had the spring rolls. I am accustomed to thinly wrapped spring rolls that are quickly fried and fresh and crispy - not the thick, deep fried Chinese-style that end up hard and crunchy. I got the chinese style, and they were very thin and tasteless. I would not be surprised to find out that they had spent some time in the freezer :(. Then came the pad thai. Clumpy noodles with very little sauce. I had ordered medium to almost-medium for spiciness and I can't explain how bland these rice noodles were. None of the fresh ginger/peanut/lime flavor you might be accustomed to at other Thai restaurants. Just blah. My husband's massamam curry came with what looked like crumbled up fun'yons on top and broccoli that was way past the bright, fresh color it was supposed to be and more like the broccoli you get at the local greasy spoon underneath a bathing of cheez whiz. I might add that the decor is extremely dated/antiquated. Again, this is the very first restaurant review I've ever written, but we were so blown away by this experience I had to share it.

Awesome! Best Thai food I have had since being in Thailand. They got it right, with first class service, cooked as ordered and fresh ingredients. Well worth the price which is super reasonable for a tourist area. Will go back every chance I get when visiting.

Hands down the best Thai Restaurant I have ever been to. It is authentic, an excellent value for the dollar, and a has a quaint, family atmosphere. It is almost as if you are sitting in the owner's dining room waiting for the family to serve you. Try the Thai Iced Tea if you want one of the most delicious beverages you will ever have. I recommend the Chicken Satay (the sauce that accompanies it is fantastic) or the Golden Shrimp appetizers. As far as main courses go, the Curry dishes are delectable, simply pick one and you will be happy. Although I'm not a Pad Thai fan, my family absolutely RAVES about the dish they serve. Personally, I recommend the Salmon Curry. Please listen to the wait staff when they explain the "heat" levels of the dishes. My recommendation is to get it as mild as you can and ask for extra spice to "heat it up". You can always add more, however, taking it away is impossible. This restaurant is cash only and serves only wine and beer. Dishes are between $14 and $25. Appetizers are just under $10. Drinks, beer, and wine are reasonably priced for a gourmet restaurant. I have been in more glamorous, more sophisticated restaurants all over the world, however, the food is prepared with family hands with incredible detail. Everything appears to be homemade and as close to authentic as I can imagine. Enjoy!

We went to the Blue Elephant on 5/8/10, had reservations, got seated, then waited and waited and waited. No sure what the heck was going on in the kitchen but our meal which at best was fair, took forever, portions small, meats were overcooked, especially the fish and had to ask for more rice as the portion given was tiny. The price was outrageous, and what is the deal with the hand written check, and only takes cash, seems shady to me, may be a front for something else. Will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone. Have eaten Thai food in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia, and this is the worst ever.

Apps were good, but I've had better. Entrees were tasty. The girls loved the coconut banana ice cream dessert. Waitresses were attentive and in traditional Thai clothing. Owner did come out at conclusion to ask us if we liked his cooking. Will go back next time and try the coconut chicken soup and one of the curry dishes.

Fantastic food, attentive service, and a pleasant atmosphere made my dinner one to remember. The server was very careful to ask how spicy we wanted our food, and even brought extra to the table so we could adjust the spice ourselves. The Spring Rolls were wonderful, the dumplings wee delicate. They only take cash, so be prepared ahead of time.

We went to Blue Elephant because we really like another Thai in Myrtle Beach but did not want to drive all the way up there from Pawleys Island. Bad choice. I had duck which was suppose to be crispy on the outside, and moist on the inside, which was crispy, no crunchy all the way through. The sticky rice was good, my wife's Pad Thai was ok, but nothing exceptional. Everything was too sweet. I asked to have mine medium spicy and was told that it would be quite hot if I ordered it that way, so I ordered it mild and could taste no heat at all. We ordered steamed Thai dumplings which were bland and tasteless. I would not recommend this restaurant. They also take only cash or check, which I found a bit odd.

Best thai food! We always stop here for a nice dinner when we visit. Small restaurant with fresh dishes, prepared when you order. Take cash or checks (no credit cards accepted) and enjoy a leisurely dining experience in a pretty setting. The "special" of the day is a must, and so is the Panang Salmon.

If I hadn't been halfway into my appetizer (chicken satay which was very dry, tasteless and overpriced) when the waiter told me they had NO PORK for my fried rice dish I ordered, I would have left. I couldn't believe I was the first customer of the day and they had no pork! Not only that, the waiter didn't say 'sorry' to the situation. I relutanately changed the meat selection along with my attitude. My fried rice was wonderful - can't deny that but the entire dining experience would have been better if I had been informed at the time I placed my order that they did not have the pork. The next time, I will call ahead and just do a 'take-out' as I took notice everyone else was doing. There was no one else in the restaurant the entire time I was there - thought that was a little odd but there was plenty of folks going in to pick up their order.

I recommend this restaurant if you truly enjoy authentic Thai cuisine. My husband and I both ordered the Pad Thai dish. We initally ordered the food with a medium heat level, however had to send the dish back to be prepared with a lower heat level, since we were unable to eat it due to the heat factor. The food was very delicious, just be warned that this is true authentic Thai and when the menu says hot, it truly means "hot".

I love to eat at the blue elephant when we visit the myrtle beach area. I have a thai relative (who's a professional and amazing cook)and my husband and I have eaten thai food in many places around the country I can vouch that this is excellent, authentic, fresh and carefully prepared food. My 2 young boys also love to go eat here. They love the amazing hand painted dishes and the hand carved teak inside the restaurant. Dr. Paul (owner/chef) is always happy to accomodate special requests with our order (tofu instead of meat, no spiciness for the kids, etc) and we have never had less than outstanding food. Bruce is also very kind and attentive. I only wish we lived closer so we could eat there more often! it's not much to see from the outside, but it's clean and comfortable inside, and the food makes it worth it! go try it- you'll enjoy it!.

We eat Thai food quite often and decided to try this restaurant out on vacation. We all thought the curry dishes were excellent--large portions served in beautiful china. One thing, however--We often order Thai at a 5 out of 10 heat factor in other restaurants. The choices at Blue Elephant were mild, medium, hot, or authentic. The waiter did not recommend ordering more spice than medium. If we went there again, we would not order anything that was not "Mild". We ordered ours medium and it had so much burn it was tough to eat it--very delicious, but very hot relative to other Thai restaurants.

After reading the reviews here, our family decided to spend my husband's birthday at Blue Elephant. We were the first party seated in the restaurant, and our server was very attentive & professional. The china & atmosphere was beautiful, although be prepared, this place is pretty fancy for those on vacation. The soup, entree's, & fried rice were all delicious! Our server brought coconut ice cream for husband's b.day, and even that was amazing. Blue Elephant is definitely worth the trip!

Took my daughter here for her birthday. What a treat...Thai is one of our favorites, but this Thai is the best we have ever had. Generous portions. The owner and the hostess most attentive. How many places can you go these days where the owner greets every table and really cares that his guests are pleased? Surprise of all surprises, even my picky 7 year old grandson couldn't get enough....he loved the sticky rice and the soup.

It is definitely the best Thai Cuisine in the area. I am glad I found it driving along the road looking for a restaurant a couple of years back. Everything is made fresh, authentic, and personalized by the owner/executive chef, Dr. Paul B. The atmosphere is very personal and friendly, yet professional enough to deliver the service that you pay for. There is no downside to this place, other than not accepting credit cards (cash or checks only) and occasional random closings. I look forward to visiting Blue Elephant back and again!

I visited in August after reading reviews on this site. I have eaten at many Thai resturants all over and this is by far the BEST. The dishes are beautiful ,fresh ,and spiced just as you like. The china they serve you dinner on makes for a feeling of dining at a much more expensive resturant. The prices while higher than some Thai resturants in Myrtle Beach is worth it as the quality of the food and the portions are much better. We found that most dinners were enough for 2 people. You must try the fried banana and coconut ice cream , fresh made coconut ice cream and flaming banana is a treat! Dr.Paul is a wonderful Chef and I will make sure to visit as often as I can.

I was new to Thai but now I love it. Fortunately I started at the best Thai in town, thanks to a friend's recommendation. If new to Thai try the half pineapple with rice & etc. in it. Excellent! No way you would not like it. Can get it with shrimp, chicken or pork as with most dishes there. Also, try Drunken Noodles. My wife loves the grouper with the red curry and other dishes as well. Fine dining at it's best. Elegant, subdued atmosphere and excellent value for the price. Prices are reasonable anyway but are very reasonable in view of the food & preparation quality. Chef has a Ph. D in Psychology but he sure knows about food. We have been to most fine dining restaurants in town (we live here) and this is one of our top 2 favorites of any type.

Very Bad experience - the restaurant was recommended by one of our customers - we own a liquor store - we called ahead and made reservations - when we got there a little man with glasses acted very peculiar and said they were very crowded - only 2 tables had people at them - we said we had reservations - he asked if we still wanted to stay - seemed to be harried and upset that 2 more people came in - we said that we would wait since we were a few minutes early - we asked if we could have a drink at the bar while waiting - they have no bar according to him - but he could have offered us a glass of wine while we were waiting - kept badgering us whether we wanted to stay - and then I spied the sign that they only accept cash - that was the final straw - we left - will never attempt to go back - and we will tell as many people as possible about our bad experience - we eat at the finest restaurants so were very surprised at our reception at this mediocre place - the place looked like a dump, and the management needs to take a course in customer relations!!! Stay AWAY

I love this place! I had one of the curry dishes, and it was pure bliss. The Tom Yum soup is not to be missed. And the fact that everything is served on elegant, gold-trimmed Asian china makes it even more delectable. This place is far above the other choices for Thai food (except perhaps ENoodles, which is different but still terrific.)

It is absolutely amazing, I felt as though I was in Thailand eating among the natives. Definatley recomended to the people who want to venture out in ethnic dining and who are not afraid to try new things.

I've eaten at many Thai restaurants all over the world (even Thailand) and this is definitely the best tasting most authentic I've had. There is something that everyone will like on the menu but if you have never had Thai before try the Shrimp Garlic its the best! My favorite dish though has to be the Duck. I almost get it everytime!! One funny thing reading the other reviews though is the one about the Pad Thai only having 2 shrimp... Thats what most recipes online or at any other restaurant call for is only 2 shrimp in the Pad Thai so if you don't go because of someone's ignorance shame on you!! :-)

I've stopped into this place only once but i absolutely loved it. The food was great and the servers were friendly. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but it's very upscale inside. I'll be back here soon.

I tried Blue Elephant on the recommendation of a friend, it was excellent! I have gone there several times in the last month, can't go wrong with the chef specials. I was a little turned off by the remark made on the "shrimp & chicken" pad thai. There is no such description on the menu, the chef said pad thai is tradionally served with chicken but as a treat he puts a few shrimp in. If you don't try this restuarant based on that remark, you're missing out on a great place to eat and hang out.

Great and exciting food and the owner makes sure you are happy. Mostly good service but at times new people and slow. Make sure you bring cash or a local check = no charge cards accepted. You have to try this place if you enjoy trying something different.

Excellent!!! I had the most amazing dish served inside of a pinapple. The pad thai was yummy with a side of peanut sauce. The iced tea is always a favorite!! We will be back!

I tried the Elue Elephant on the reccomendation of a discriminating friend. The food was of exceptional caliber and the atomosphere was pleasing. Our server was very friendly and the chef introduced himself personally - both gentlemen. The quaint looks of the place don't do justice to the chef's astonishing experience, I strongly recommend.

i only eat here when i haven't got the time to drive to "bangkok house" or "thai cuisine" in myrtle beach. WAY over priced for what you get!!!!! 3 shrimp in the "shrimp+chicken" pad thai????? i'm serious!!!! i even asked the dr. and was told that's the way it's served!!! try the other two places mentioned above you will see. RUMOUR ON THE STREET IS THIS PLACE IS CLOSED.

We'll be back. We stopped in the Blue Elephant and were thrilled with the food and the service. My chicken and cashew was supurb. My husband has a seafood dish that was arrived in a beautiful presentation and was equally delicious. The chef customizes the spiciness of a dish to your preference-. just a kick or 4 alarm. The fried banana desert was delicious and coconut ice cream was unusual but yummy. The server was very attentive and personable. The chef, Dr. Paul Byington, stopped by our table to check on us and chat. We will be regulars from now on. We have lots of out of town friends coming in for the summer and the Blue Elephant will be on our list of favorite places to dine.

I sent a note to the chef with my son saying I had a 103 degree fever and to please send me the hottest food possible. My fever was broken and my head was clear within an hour of my son's return. It was the perfect cure.
