We had a coupon from Restaurant.com so we figured we'd try it. The place had tons of authentic atomosphere. Tall glasses of heffeweizen. The food was very good. I cannot say how authentic German it was, but a good meal for the price. My kids enjoyed the All You Can Eat pork chops. The sauerkraut was very good. All things considered not a bad place to eat. Our server was attentive and polite.

This is a resturant that i would call a "one timer" as in you go once and you will not go back. I couldnt wait to give this place a shot, now i know, i should have passed. The food is not up to snuff to german food. I would have to say that most of the food is out of the can. The red cabbage is not home made but stright out of the can, and the so called "seasonal" spetzle is a joke, its right from the box, and is not home made because is looked like pasta from the box, my wife makes spetzle and it doesnt look nothing like this. The snitzle was good but it wasnt thin as i had when traveling in germany. I would pass this joint by if you thinking of go here, it, not worth the price you are going to pay....

We ate here tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. The waitresses were very patient and helpful in our selections. We were a large group of 11 and our food arrived hot and fresh. The accordian player was a nice addition. I would highly recommend this German restaurant.

Horst Gasthaus was absolutely amazing!!! Three of my girlfriends and I are visiting Myrtle Beach for our spring break. We were searching for cool restaurants we could visit that we wouldn't be able to visit back home. Two of them have previously lived in Germany and were very, very excited for this restaurant, that was said to be so authentic by so many previous reviews. I thought the food was wonderful, as did everyone else. The pork schnitzel was my favorite, as well as the German Chocolate Cake! We all decided to get different entrees and desserts so we would have a variety of things to share with one another. On top of the food, they had a live accordion player, which was very entertaining. And the polka dancing that we joined in on was just an added plus. ;) Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would very highly recommend it to anyone looking for some great authentic German food!!

AWESOME! There is no other word to describe this restaurant. Our family counts dinner at Horst Gasthaus as one of the top things in Myrtle. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The veal is incredible, shrimp is awesome, and the red cabbage is my favorite. I had my reservations the first time we planned on dining here and I was so wrong. It is incredible in every way. Food, service, atmosphere. A+++

My sister and I found this restaurant abour 7 years ago on a "girls weekend" to the beach. We fell in love with the place. Since then we have been back every year (sometimes with 25 of our freinds and family). Whenever we go to HG we know that we will have great food and great entertainment. In fact, friends from Maryland are coming this weekend for an visit and the only thing they want to do is to go to HG for dinner. They said," It wouldn't be a visit to Myrtle Beach without going to HG" What a great restaurant. My husband adn I now live here and go several times a month . We all love the place.

My husband lived in Germany for 9 years while serving in the Army, he loves German food, and your restaurant is without a doubt the best we have found in our travels to Myrtle Beach. We feel is it well worth the money, you certainly get enough food for the price and we look forward to eating there again in about 2 weeks.

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining in. The service is fantastic, the food is even better. The atmosphere is very authentic. I walked in one night on a whim and immediately felt right at home and have been going back ever since. I have been dining at HG at least twice a month for the last seven years and I have yet to have a negative experience. I LOVE this place!!!

We visited HG last week on our trip to Myrtle Beach. This was only the second German restaurant I have been to in my life, and I am a true novice at ordering German food. Our waitress went above and beyond to help me understand what things were and was great at engaging the kids and prodding them to eat, as they are very slow and picky eaters. The German Potato Salad was good, although I was surprised at it being cold. The first time I had it years ago, it was hot. I'm not sure which is authentic, if either. Sauerbraten and Schwineschnitzel were average, but the Bauernwurst (I think that was the name??) was very good. Home fries were like our fried potatoes. Kids were expecting wedge potatoes, but I should have warned them. Black Forest and German Chocolate cakes were not as good as our homemade. I would probably do the cheesecake (not German) next time. One of the best things, however, was having an accordian polka player who brought kids (including a college age kid!) up to help with one number. That may or may not appeal to everyone, but the music, decor and waitress outfits all made the somewhat average food a much more enjoyable experience. Prices are very reasonable for this area.

We had been to Horst Gasthaus several times and thought that it was pretty good. However, on the last trip there (over a year ago) we were very disappointed. It was our anniversary and wanted to go there and have a nice meal and good music. Instead, the musician was solely devoted to a large family with several unruly children, hopping around and making lots of noise. The music was all for the children, consisting of kiddie songs for the duration of our unromantic dinner. Never again!

I do not know where these other people have eaten German food but it was not in Germany. I spent almost five years in Germany and I was there four or five other times on the job. I am here to tell you that the food at this establishment is not even close to what real German food taste like or even looks like. The meat was tough (veal) and the potatoes where burnt. The best part of the whole $50.00 meal was the German beer, bread and the brown gravy. The rest was very poor. I will never return and would not advise anyone that likes real German food to even waste their time going to this place.

Delicious & yummy. I had the veal yaeger schnitzel (breaded veal cutlet with mushroom) with gravy and that is one of my favorites of german food. My guests ordered the pork chops and they enjoyed their dinner too. We would return to this establishment. Being a native of new york & new jersey,i had to try their food. This is a truly authentic german restaurant. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner/chef thomas that night and to tell him the food was very delicious. Our waitress krystal was very nice and polite.i cant wait to return for more german food..

We ate here Christmas day 2007 and had Christmas Goose for the first time. It was GREAT! My wife and I both loved it. The deserts were fair. The atmosphere was fun and noisy. The service was a little slow ... but so what ... it was worth the wait and while waiting we enjoyed the music. We were there again this year, except the week after Christmas and to our disappointment, no Christmas Goose .. only on Christmas Day. But we both enjoyed our meal once again and enjoyed the atmosphere of music and people having a good time!

Every year for that past 8 years our trip to Myrtle Beach must include a visit to Host Gasthaus. It wouldn't be a trip to the beach without going there. Two years ago, for my husbands 60th birthday there was 35 of us at the resaurant and they handled it wonderfully. From my 2 year old grandaughter dancing to the music to me and my 11 year old grandson dancing& singing along. Since then we have moved here and still enjoy our trips to this restaurant, and have introduced many of our friends to this wonderful restaurant. The food, atmosphere and service is outstanding.

I come to Myrtle Beach with a large group of people. For the past two years, we went to the Gast House. It was absolutely fabulous each time. Last year, we had a "theme" party and celebrated Oktoberfest there. We had hats, flowers, etc. The entertainment helped us along and we had a great time. We are visiting again next week, and will definitely go there for some great food and a great time. The funny thing about this is that my husband's name is Horst. That went over quite well at the restaurant.

This is one of my family's favorite places to eat at the Beach. My wife and I had a sausage sampler platter which was great! I especially like their German potato salad and their cucumber salad. Every meal I have had there has been wonderful. The atmosphere and the entertainment are great. Many of the same waitresses are still working that were working several years ago. I have found that restaurants with low employee turnover are usually concerned about quality issues. On a sad note, when we were there about a week ago, the gentleman who entertains advised the crowd that the lady who had performed with him had recently died. It was so sad because they performed so well together.

The food was superb, nothing like I had ever eaten, the beer was excellent German brew, and the staff including the owner who I did meet we all great. I have already confirmed our next meal there in June '08! Go check it out the all you can eat porkchops are the best I've eaten. I've eaten a LOT of different pork chops too...

Take the kids dancing. This place is super friendly and just about anything goes. Food is great if you like German stuff. I went for the atmosphere. My six yr. old boy got up and danced three songs. The five tables full of people clapped to the beat of the music while he danced. He made everyones night. Thanks to the live entertainment. A blast for all! He made tips that night from the patrons. Some people gave dollar bills to him. I hope he didn't take away from the waitresses....

What a disapointment and embarrassment this so-called "German" restaurant turned out to be. The food was terrible. Burned, greasy, breaded pork chops (tasted like it had been previously frozen, and freezer burned), served with red cabbage that made you gasp for breath, due to an overdose of cheap vinegar. The salad plate was a taste disaster. Again, way too much vinegar. Being German myself, I was so embarrassed to have brought a large party of guests to this restaurant. I wanted to introduce my guests to German cuisine, but am afraid that this "greasy spoon" dining fiasco may have left a bad taste in their mouths and they will not want to eat "German" food in the future. This is too bad, because they might never know how good German cuisine really is.

My husband and I are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach in November and we can't wait to eat at Horst Gasthaus. We have been going there for the past five years and have enjoyed each meal. Often we take friends and family and all of them have commented very favorably on the food, service and fun entertainment. If you can't have fun here, you can't have fun anywhere.

For the price the food was fair my husband and I have eaten here on 2 seperate occasions. We loved the atmosphere and music even though they charged us for beer that wasn't what we ordered . They also give excellent service but after we tipped on a credit card generously when our bank statement came they doubled the tip, on 2 seperate occasions, so use cash if you go here..

Great atmosphere. Dining out is fun here, and the food is good. Love the different atmosphere. One of the better German restaurants, and we always search for a good German restaurant as we travel accross the country. Look forward to returning each time we are in the area. Only thing they could improve is the parking, but, can't be perfect!!

We had such a fun in this very nice German style restaurant. It was really the first time that we as Germans find a place which could be also in Munich. The beer and the food, especially the Sauerbraten and the Wiener Schnitzel, could be not better, also compared to Germany. We always will find our way back when we will be in the area again.

We found this place by getting lost, and it was fantastic! Great food, fabulous old world charm atmosphere, amazing music - I was transported back to Munich in a second. Fabulous food - don't miss the Wienerschnitzel!

I'll be here everytime I travel to Myrtle Beach. Do not miss this one!

A great find, a fun place for the kids. The noise level is up there so don't plan on lots of conversation. You go to savor the German cuisine, knock down a few beers, and sing along with German John. You just can't resist singing along. It's cheesy entertainment but a great deal of sheer joy. You think you're a child again and somehow German John teases out from you those lyrics to songs (even from commercials and cartoons) you sang long ago. Lots of extended families attend. We make reservations to get a good table. There is a smoking section.

A "gemütlichkeit" atmoshere wherein great food and service was found. The live music was just bit too noisey for us, but it sure was great to hear the German Oldies played. We had the Bavarian Goulash. Glad we ordered the SR. portion. The meat was extremely tender and the noodles were tasty, as was the gravy. The red cabbage was flavorful. Naturally it went down well with a german beer. Great value!

The six of us, all adults, enjoyed sausage platters, beef rollups, and the Swiss chicken entrees. All were excellent. The musical entertainment added to the meal. The complimentary bread is very good. The beers were very good, as were the cucumbers and the German potato salad. The German chocolate cake was very good (but the Apple Strudel and the Black Forest cake that we had last year was not very enjoyable -- too dry). Good service. This was our second visit. We will be back.

I "treated" my family to a meal in this restaurant while on vacation. We lived in Germany for several years, and I wanted my now grown adopted German-born son to sample a good German meal. It was NOT German food. The southern fried potatoes were old and cold. It was The worst meal I've ever had at Myrtle Beach. Now, everytime we go to the beach, the family joke is, "Let's go to the Gasthaus and have some real German food."

We saw this restaurant advertised last year after we had visited Germany the previous year and decided to give it a try. It is a very authentic German restaurant in every detail down to the marked beer glasses and German bier. We have now made it a regular stop on our visits to the beach, something that is rare for us to do with restaurants there.

My golf group eats at Horst Gasthaus twice a year (our spring and fall trips). The food is always excellent and a great value. The sausage platters are excellent; we really like their red cabbage too. "German John" is a hoot- always lively and fun. If you want to go to a restaurant for quiet conversation this is not the place to go. The atmosphere is lively and can be noisy. But we always leave completely satisfied and have eaten there for 8 straight years. Many restaurants have come off our list over the years, but not Horst Gasthaus. Enjoy!

I have to agree with the above review. Our first experience there was novel as the 'entertainer' WAS funny but very loud. Table conversation was minimal at best because we couldn't hear each other & the place was pretty empty. The food was authenticly German. Our second trip (6 months later) we opted for bar seating as we didn't want to be 'loudly entertained' but needed a schnitzel fix. The restaurant was very busy and the dishes we had were thoroughly overcooked. There won't be a third trip for awhile.

It is impossible to eat and talk at this restaurant. There is only one man singing and making music, but he sounds like a big brass band and it is not at all pleasant. We had eaten here in the past, but this last year vowed never to go again. Our guests were very dissappointed after we had told them how much fun it was. The noise was much too much and the food was mediocre.
