Worst food ever!!!! Service sucked!!! Cooks keep walking out of building. When we out to and coming back in. Food was burnt and chicken was like eating shoe leather. Would not even recommended to President. Nasty!!!

Terrible service! I can't believe that my family had to wait for one hour to get my order! I used to work for Japanese restaurant so I know when there are lots of customers and loads of order then most likely the food will deliver around 20~25 mins to the customers. However, when I was visiting this restaurant it was not that busy at all! The server kept saying that food is coming within 20 mins. but he kept saying that for last 50 mins. I was getting tire of hearing lame excuses and waiting so we decide to leave. Beware!! I am not sure about the food quality but the service that I got was terrible and I would never go this place ever again!

My girlfriend and I just ate at Sugami tonight. The restaurant looks great inside. It's a great atmosphere. Beautiful too. Her and I have eaten sushi everywhere and must admit, the awards and recognition is true. It was the best sushi we have ever eaten. The California Roll is simply AMAZING. The chicken and shrimp hibaichi is incredible. The rice is the best rice we have ever eaten as well. All in all, the quality of food is excellent. The only downside was, the restaurant is too dark. We were lucky enough to sit near the outside window, so a street lamp shined in to see our food! Also, a gnat crawled out of one of our other sushi rolls. That was enough to disgust us, but geez was the other food good. The workers and vibes there seemed cocky. And the didn't give us more sushi or take the other sushi that had a gnat crawl out off. The waitress even saw the gnat and said "oh my gosh...get away get away" like she was going to shew it away and then let us eat it. We had to tell her to get the plate away from us so we could enjoy the rest of our food. But all in all, the sushi, the rice, and the shrimp made it worth it. The sauce was irrestible too. So give this place a try if you love sushi, but be prepared for them to not help you out if there's an issue.

We went to Sugami mid-week in late August of 2009. The dining experience was nothing short of fabulous. We were immediately impressed by the decor of the restaurant, and after receiving our delicious sushi platters, we were equally impressed by the food, which was very fresh. The service in the restaurant was excellent, with our waitress being attentive, but not annoying. The prices were very reasonable for quality sushi, and I would definitley recommend this restaurant to anybody.

My girlfriend and I went there on a saturday night and we were seated right away, no wait, and the food was excellent...The waitress never let our drinks get low and brought everything we needed the first time we asked for it...My girlfriend and I ordered the Shrimp Spring Rolls for an appetizer and we were not disappointed, they were very good and the dipping sauce was excellent...next we each ordered sushi (1 California Roll, 1 Spicy Tuna Roll and 1 Crab and Avacodo Roll)...this once again was excellent...the best I have had in a while...then for dinner we both ordered the hibachi (I had the chicken, filet and shrimp and she had the chicken, filet and scallops)...Great Meal!!!

Really enjoyed my trip to Myrtle Beach and eating at Sugami was great. A friend had told me I had to try the place while I was in town and I was a little reluctant, but I'm glad I gave the place a whirl. The food was great, and what was really awesome is that the menu was so HUGE. I mean, they'll cook anything you want.

This was my second time going to Sugami. I was extremely excited about going back because we went last year and found the food to be amazing. Unfortunately this time was different. We got "Chicken Hibachi". I have been to many other restaurants that serve this.. and I have never in my life had chicken that was extremely smushy. It was gooey. We told the waitress, and she said that is how it is supposed to be (Which I didn't believe). So, we sent it back asking her to have them cook it more. She brought it back about 10 minutes later. The chicken was pretty much the SAME. The rest of my food had gotten chilled. It was like they didn't do anything to it. She never once asked if we would like to speak to the manager. The manager was running his mouth to everybody else in the place.. Never once asking how our meal was. So I ate the veggies and rice. I found like 2 bites of chicken that I ate.. almost making me gag. It was almost like the chicken was uncooked. The waitress did tell us that they "boil" it before they cook it..Needless to say, I will not be going back again next year. Also, last year the appearance of the food was completely different. They had a whole piece of chicken on top of veggies and such. This time it looked as if I had went to a Japanese restaurant that charges 5 dollars for the same thing... I should have sued them when I had the chance. If you go be VERY careful when walking up and down the stairs. It poured last year when I went.. and as I was leaving the manager was standing on the front porch. I was holding on to the rail and my boyfriends arm on the other side. I slipped. My boyfriend almost slipped too. The manager didn't really seem to care. Even though I had bruises and pain for days. Maybe I should have sued! So BEWARE! The steps have NO grip on them at all and if they are wet you will most likely fall. Good luck if you try it!!

What a fantastic experience!! We went with a large party 2 nights in a row with no reservation and were seated immediately. Our server Kimmy was fun loving and very knowlegable about what they offered. The vegetable Hibachi (a vegetable dish with rice) was a great value and tasted almost as good as the hot and gooey dessert!! We will definitely be back!!!

We found the resteraunt to be excellent in terms of the atmosphere and staff friendliness. Also excellent value. I highly recommend $2 Vodka night on Thursdays. Our waitress was friendly (particularly about the local night spots), knowledagble (particularly about the cost of beverages at said local night spots), and helpful. Try the Hibachi for an excellent meal with great value. (It's a vegetable thing...) We will never go to Myrtle Beach again without stopping in... L.T., R.S., F.J., G.Y.F.O, K.C. and The Playa

09/16/2008 - went to Sugami for a late lunch and ordered off the lunch menu. The portions were large and prices were less then dinner.

The food was outstanding and the service was wonderful.

I always eat at Sugami everytime I visit Myrtle beach. I highly recommend it.

Not the best sushi bar on the Grand Strand thats for sure. If your looking for great sushi head down to Myabis in Murrells Inlet.

The service was below average. It took the waitress an inordinate amount of time to bring the drinks. Only half of what was ordered was served by the waitress, after another inordinate amount of waiting. We were not served our sushi orders (the main reason for stopping) and we were told that the two sushi chefs when on break without completing the order. The restaurant needed a bit of cleaning, as the floors and walls were somewhat dirty. I've been here other times, and it seems this was a below averate experience overall. The sumai was excellent, however..

Sugami is an excellent restaurant. It's open until late and has a fantastic atmosphere.

However, as someone who has actually lived in Japan for many years and knows Japanese food well (from nato to tonkatsu to ramen to sushi to oshinko and so on), I can say that the quality of the food is not the best. You can find fresher sushi from Yamato at a slightly more reasonable price.

Regardless, I love Sugami because of the atmosphere and the service which are both excellent. In addition, you can find dishes that are typically hard to find in America (save for big cities like New York and L.A.) like udon and tempura. Too bad they don't have shoyu ramen.

This is a servicable "Benni Hanna" type of Japanese restaurant, where they cook the food in front of you. Their stock in trade is the dishes made popular in America by these type of places, all of which are based on Yahiniku. The sushi, while not exceptional or adventuresome, is consistantly tasty, fresh, and good. If you're craving sushi, it will take care of that for you, but don't expect to be amazed. Overall a good place.

I eat anything on the menu from their exquisite sashimi to their teriyaki dinners. Everything i have tasted is beyond belife. I would recomend this restraunt to anyone who would like to experience a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere with the freshest sushi in town!

The past three times I've been to Myrtle Beach, this is one of the spots I must stop and dine at. Sumgami's is one of the best values in MB. I've had several items on thier menu ranging from the sweet potato tempura rolls and spicy tuna roll to the chicken hibachi plate and it's all been fabulous, especially for the price. The staff has been extremely friendly and eager to please and food has always been prompt. The bar area can get crowded on the weekends, but a great place to sip sake and take in the scene.
