How the mighty have fallen.. Been about a since eaten there. All previous experience were outstanding. Not this trip. Service lacking. Food mediocre at best. Only thing same was tables. Were so disappointed as our son had his Canadian girl friend visiting and we had bragged about restaurtant. To make matters worse her family is in restaurant business!! Be long time before we go back. BTW we are locals.

My friend and I decided to check out the restaurant for it's great happy hour. We walked in and waited for someone to seat us...... no one came over, so we walked over to the bar and sat down. We sat towards the middle of the bar, directly in front of the bartenders. We sat there for literally 5 minutes without even an acknowlegement! Not a "I'll be right with you" or even just a "hi". It was like they were blatently ignoring us on purpose. We watched the 2 bartenders as they pretended to stay busy, stacking cups, etc... meaningless tasks, not waiting on any of the other customers at the moment. We were stunned. It got to the point where it was so obvious that they didn't want to wait on us, it was awkward. At that point, we stood up, grabbed our purses and left. No one even acknowledged that we were leaving. And they weren't even busy!! I'm not sure what they were thinking, but we were planning on going somewhere for happy hour and then staying for dinner..... and spending a lot of money! They lost out on business not only that night, but once we find a place we like- we continue to go back. Never again! Not the way we were treated...... or lack thereof!!!

If you like, noise, average food, all you can eat, and 10.00 meals, this isn't the place for you! Service ws top rate and so was the food. Very upscale and worth the money. Will be back when we return to Myrtle Beach!

With no reviews here in 2009, we opted to give it a try anyways, based on experience with other restaurants they own. The decor was very stylish - dark woods and copper, although the modern music selection playing was somewhat jarring to the setting. I didn't really mind it - it just didn't fit in to the ambience I was enjoying. Our waiter Jason was very good - prompt and quick to offer suggestions if needed, although we had to rob silverware from an adjacent table for the main course (as did our next door neighbors seated beside us). My wife ordered a White Russian and I had a glass of Lakes Merlot. We tried a variety of the tapas and small plate items, and based on those orders, I would highly recommend the tuna tataki and deviled lobster eggs. I was NOT impressed with the seaweed salad that came with the tataki tuna (and my entree later). It had an "off" taste, kind of like the generic salad you might find at a discount chinese buffet serving "sushi", but maybe a little more "canned". For the main course I ordered the Sesame Tuna and my wife ordered the Shrimp/Scallop Pasta. When Jason set the pasta down, my nose immediately wrinkled. At first I thought the seafood was maybe "off", but on closer inspection with my nose realized it was the grated Asiago cheese used with the dish. While I really like this cheese with some garlickly dishes, this cheese was a very poor choice in my humble opinion to add without some forewarning as to the strong smell, and my wife only picked at her food. I didn't blame her after I tried 1 bite under protest. The cheese was overpowering to any other flavors that might have been there. My tuna was rare as I asked, and very well prepared - quite tasty with the accompanying sauces provided. Again there was a pile of the seaweed salad I didn't care for. The sticky rice was excellent, but unfortunately tainted with the seaweed salad as it was buried underneath it. On a 1-10 scale solely based on the food we ate, I would rate it a 6. Overall a 7.5. Good wait staff and well decorated, but the level of food fell short for me, and far short for my wife. If you go, I would recommend asking questions about preparation/ingredients, or stick with the wonderful little tapas menu. We had two couples next to us, and we talked after the dinner. They felt it was an 8 for 3 of them and one felt it was a 5. He had the special Ribeye and was disappointed with the portions for the price ($21.95). They ordered a variety of tapas too and pretty much agreed with us on what was good and not good. As in many restaurants, a little preparation makes for a great experience. Our tab with two glasses of wine and one drink plus food was $101.72, so don't be afraid to ask some questions before ordering.

City Bar is a gem. The decor is stylish - contemporary and a little funky and service is outstanding. The regular menu is solid, and the food is very well-prepared, on par with a comparable American bistro in a major metropolitan area. What _really_ excels at City Bar are the tapas and small plate menus. These dishes are incredibly well conceived and executed, and the small size makes ordering a bunch and doing a mix & match a lot of fun and well worth it. The wine list is solid, albeit a bit more expensive than it needs to be. If you're celebrating a special occasion, they'll normally comp a dessert, which is a thoughtful touch.

What a fabulous, beautiful, classy place!! I just love the decor, very seductive. The food was just great as they have tapas, small plates and entrees, so we were able to try 4 different small plates and the bread basket with dips & flavored butters were delicious. They also had a blues combo to entertain us. Dessert was a pineapple sourcream sorbet with a mango drizzle, WOW! I will eat there again soon.

After the remodel and closing of one original City BAR I was hesitant to go to this one but could not avoid a work function that was held there. Food was average but not worth the price and I don't know if it was becasue we were in a group but the service seemd very indifferent as we had to ask for everything, refills, etc. Bar was loud and stuffy, service there seemed to be about the same.

I love coming to City Bar for the ambiance and the food! Quality service and amazing dishes. I usually get several different small plates to try a variety of different items. Everything from the appetizers to the entrees are excellent! I highly recommend coming here for a relaxing and very enjoyable dining experience. I frequently stop in and get the Banana Foster Cheesecake to go. It is scrumptious!

Great food and real variety. It is a nice change from the same old food you seem to find in most place on the beach. Intimate atmosphere is nice too.

I can't believe a review hasn't been written on this place yet. What a cool, classy, upscale environment. Low lights, sumptuous furnishings, great bar with rotating colored lights making a slow rainbow behind the drinks offered. And the food, if you don't mind paying an arm and a leg, is mouth-watering. Perfect. Haven't had a single thing there I wouldn't mind gorging on, except my wallet wouldn't allow it. The crowd is upper thirties to fifties, so don't go there looking to pick up some jock. Instead, take your steady and have an intimate evening out.

As regular visitors to the pawleys island area, and coming from boston where we are spoiled by a variety of excellent restaurants, we are always on a quest for a good sc restaurant. At long last, we have finally found one in City Bar. Don't be put off by the concrete design of the exterior. Inside, the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, complemented by a professional, attentive and efficient staff. A great escape from the very commercial area strip. Our waiter was excellent. He recommended a wonderful pinot noir and guided us through our food selection. We went the appetizer route, ordering 6, which was plenty for four people. We also shared two salads which were ample and delicious. The plates that we chose were each unique, sometimes surprising, and, again, delicious. We shared a dessert, too much for one person, but perfect for sharing after a meal. City Bar is definitely at the top of our list for return visits. Try it. You won't be disappointed..
