The restaurant food and service were excellent! My issue is that we were a party of 7 who were placed on a table with another party of 4 ... strangers! In this day of covid being present and deadly you are placing customer's lives at risk for $$$$ It was very, very uncomfortable for us and the other party!

We were seated in a section that was somewhat enclosed by walls. The area had some fans set up but the heat was horrible. When I asked about it, the manager said, "Yeah, we know it is hot. We are working on it." Where I was seated hot air was blowing on my legs from under the table. The chef was fun at first but I then sped up and rushed through our meal at such a pace that they forgot to serve our salads. I would not eat there again. Unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy my food or the time with my family due to the heat!

First and last time. My server smelled of cigarettes. And they are always on their phones. And the "show" sucked he was dropping everything. Waist of money and time. And the server needs to get a new job. If you can't carry a tray then find a new career

I would honestly have to say that this is the worst hibachi restaurant our family has ever been to. Our chef was not friendly and the waiter was rude. I expected our chef to do tricks and make us laugh but we never got any of that. The food was not great either and very bland. It was definitely not worth the money. We felt like they were rushing our table to get out of there so they could seat more people. The atmosphere was too dark and smokey. I would highly not recommend this establishment to anyone.

I was not inpressed here at all. The waiting area had a foul smell. We also waited, what seemed like, forever for a table. Once seated it was loud and very smokey. We were told one of the exhaust fans was not working properly, and the manger was going to fix that ASAP. The smoke was blowing directly in our faces the entire cooking time. After complaing several times we were told they would bring us out a floor fan-which we never received. It was so smokey we could not eat until he was completly done cooking and the grill was cleaned.YUK!!!! By that time we were sick from the smell of smoke and our eyes were burning. Once we left our clothes smelled horrible-we had to go home to change-not a very nice evening out with friends. Not a great experience at all. We will never return to this place.

Have been to myrtle beach 5 times now with rather a large group of golfers, we try to make one night out of the week a japanese night. This will be our 3rd year going to this particular restaurant. The food and service are great, the entertainment is great, some chefs are better than others but over all great. The prices for what you get to eat are worth every cent. Usually you can't eat everything put in front of you. I would highly recommend if you have never tried it before. We always make reservations in advance and may wait 10 -15 min before being seated, no problem you can sit in the bar and have a drink. We have a group of 48 booked for this fall 2011 from the Atlantic Provinces, Canada.

I cannot tell you how disappointed we were in the service that we recieved while visiting your restaurant while on vacation this year. We brought with us 7 new guests that had never experienced the japanese dining before. We had been bragging to them for weeks about the entertainment of the chefs while dining as being as big a part of the evening as the meal. Boy were we disappointed. The chef did not even talk to us, let alone interact with his cooking - no tricks, no laughing, no fire - - - nothing ! our guests were being entertained from the surrounding tables. They accually turned their chairs to watch the other chefs preparing food for guests at nearby tables. How sad. We paid for entertainment from afar. We were so disappointed that we will try another japanese restaurant next year. Sorry...

I went to yamato's last year for my birthday and i loved it the wait staff is very nice and well organized the wait was about 10 minutes do to the restaurant being very lightly packed, but it is not always like that i've gone there many times before and it is very packed sometimes. The restaurant was very nice with apperence and i loved how it was cool when it was about 85degrees outside.Once we were seeted are waiterss showed up and took our order for drinks, salda, and food.before our chef came our waiterss gave us a fresh salda, soup, and our drinks.Once are chef arrived i was excited untile he started hitting on my mother and i did not take very kindly.Other then that the staff was very nice, the food was delicous.Although i would advise you if you get a chef with a player sticker on his sauses and spices box i would ask for a different chef if you dont want him hitting on every women at your table.

We made our annual trip to Yamato at Broadway at the Beach. As always, never have been disappointed. The food is absolutely perfect, as is the service. The chef we had was one of the best ever. Make sure you get extra "yum yum" sauce for your rice. Our server was ever in training and did a great job. Never a compliant for this place, only that dinner was over to quick, now have to wait another year.

This is THE BEST Japanese Hibachi restaurant on the Grand Strand, by far! Whenever I have family or friends in town, I always take them there. The food is fabulous, both the entrees and their sushi. If I'm not mistaken, they have happy hour in the sushi bar with specials on sushi (or at least they did). The staff is awesome! I'be been going there for ten years and still see many of the same faces. This area has huge turnover in the rest industry. To see a place have such loyal employees means that they must be doing something right.

I have to give this restaurant a good review.......we were seated promptly, served good food promptly in an entertaining manner, and checked out couteously and promptly.....I see that some reviews are mocking this being termed Japanese food......well, this is entertainment, it is not gourmet but neither do we pay for gourmet here.....it is resonably priced, and it is very good.....I wouldn't hesitate to dine here next time I have the desire to be close to twirling sharp knives !!

I was somewhat critical of Yamato when I reviewed after eating there in late July. Four of us ate there last Thursday, 9/17, and I have to say it was one of the best meals I ate during my week in MB> While the chefs have generally toned down their "shows", the chef we had this night was outstanding and provided us all with a great meal. Some advice for eating at Yamato - they offer a $5 shrimp cocktail which contains 5 very large shrimp. Also, you can get an extra portion of hibachi fried rice for $2 with you dinner. We all took advantage of this and ate hibachi food for lunch the following day. Our waitress was very helpful and thorough, and the restaurant was spotless this time which was one of my concerns on my previous visit. In short, if you like hibachi style food, you have to eat at Yamato.

This restaurant was wonderful. It was our first meal to start off our week long trip. My husband ordered the Filet, Chicken, and Shrimp. I ordered the Filet and Shrimp. The meals come with a chicken broth like soup, an appetizer of shrimp, salads, veggies, and rice. OMG--was the food delicious! We both left there talking about our experience for days! It is for sure worth the time and money. It is moderately priced, considering all the food you recieve. The presentation of the food (the chef cooking in front of you) was a lot of fun too. You have to make this a MUST when you stop by Myrtle.

My husband I try lots of Japanese Steak Houses. Yamatos is hands down the best. The sauces are awesome. The have yum yum sauce or spicy mayo which is hard to find. Usually leaving a Japanese restaurant I get this awful taste that is still there the next morning not at Yamatos. We have been visiting there since it opened in 95. We love it!!!!!

We have been to many Japanese restaurants where the chef puts on a great show..this isn't one of them. Our chef was quiet, almost grim, as he trudged his way through each course. The food tasted like a dirty grill. This place obviously relies on first-time, versus repeat, customers. Our server, Laura, was very nice.

My family has been eating at Yamato since it opened at Broadway at the Beach, and we go there every trip to MB. We went there last Sunday, 7/21 and for the first time I was somewhat disappointed. On the plus side, we utilized the ability to make reservations, arrived early and were seated immediately. We ordered our meals and waited with anticipation on the chef to appear at our table. Soon the chef arrived and in the end the food he prepared was very good as usual. However, I couldn't help notice that the much of the "show" normally put on by the chef was missing. Thinking this was just our chef, I watched other tables and indeed the "show" was greatly diminished at all tables. Also, I personally had the misfortune to be seated at the end of the hibachi opposite of where the chef started serving food. Therefore, I always got what was left of the item he was cooking and because of this, got small portions. Yamato was still a good place to eat. However, I feel it is slipping a little and with all the hibachi style restaurants now in Myrtle Beach, it may be time to try a new spot for my hibachi meal.

When we arrived (around 5:15 in July) we were told there would be a 25 minute waiting time. However, we were buzzed to go back in about 8-9 minutes, so the wait time wasn't bad at all. Once seated, we noticed the heat right away. It was hot! The other couple at our table commented on it as well. It soon cooled down though (or we got use to it and didn't notice) I don't know. However, the delicious food made up for it! The food was great and nothing to complain about. I recommend this place highly. Overall, very good!!

You call it Japanese food? Have you ever tried it in another restaurant? How about the fact that EVERYONE in the party gets ton of rice dumped on their plates? And check out the menu: chicken, shrimp, steak... Yep, it is all cooked on the same grill, with the pretty much same sauces. You can do a better job in your own kitchen! Entertainment? well.. if you are with the kids that have never seen anything better than a chef that unsuccessfully tries several times to get the veggies in his chef's hat, than go ahead, and enjoy 'the show'. Please mind that for the money you will pay at the end, you could've enjoyed really good food some place else.

Yamato is a great restaurant. We were immediately seated even though they were not accepting any reservations (call ahead seating). Service was above average. The food was GREAT! (love the Yum-Yum sauce!) The only Con to the entire experience was that it was hot in the restaurant... of course they do have 13+ grills going at the same time... It wasn't too uncomfortable...

I took my daughter and her friend for my daughters birthday at 6pm on August 14th. The food was good and the cook was semi-entertaining but it was so hot in that place that I couldn't enjoy anything. Everyone I asked said the ac was working properly, but it was 90 degrees at least and very uncomfortable. My daughter and her friend agreed with me that we will never ever go in that place again in the summertime.

We had a party of 6 total, 5 adults and 1 child under the age of 2. 2 of us ordered the Chicken and Steak and 3`had the Chicken and Shrimp. The Steak was cooked exactly how we ordered it. The Chef was amazing. Provided GREAT entertainment for both us and the 22 month old we had with us. The waiter that brought our drinks, soup and salads was very efficient and took great care of us and met our needs. It was the first time for 2 in our party and they cannot wait to go back! The level of energy by the hostess, waiter and chef was unforgetable. Yamato is a resturant that we will go back to and enjoy as a family.

This restaurant has seen better days, it needs to be remodeled. Bathrooms are run down and if you look around you can see it has been well used. The food was good but we were disappointed in the chef. Normally at this type of restaurant the chef is entertaining. Ours barely spoke and had no little tricks of fire. All in all a disappointing evening.

For reference, I ordered an eel and cucumber roll and a spicy tuna roll, along with getting the mahi mahi hibachi. My friend got the chicken hibachi. As to the food, it was -fantastic-. My friend, who traditionally is the pickiest eater and complains about everything, for once had nothing to complain about. The teriyaki sauce on her chicken was spectacular, and the mix of vegetables served was above par. I especially liked the mayonnaise sauce given to dip anything into--it was fantastic. The soy sauce choice for my salad was also excellent. Our chef was very friendly, but obviously a little new. That was okay though, because he was nice. As many hibachis, I feel that this one was a bit expensive, but I'm also a poor college student so I tend to think most things are expensive ;). But it was still above average in price especially good.

Lights way too bright on tables - the glare was so bad even the cooks did not want the lights in their face. Waitress was non accommodating at all - she said we would have to back to front and speek with someone to get the lights lowered? Figure that? Then she made sure she added her tips into our checks so the non professional "b1tc3h" got what she needed. We are local and never will return and will not recommend to anyone -----

My husband and my brother and sister in-law visited last year and ate ar your restaurant. It was so delicious and the chef was really down to earth and friendly. My nephew is two years old and he was amazed at all the little tricks that the chef performed. We are coming back to the beach this next two weeks and we have already set aside a couple of nights to eat with you all! Thanks for a great dining experience

The chef was terrible---when asked to smile for a pic he said he was busy--the shrimp was undercooked and had no seasonings---we watched him and he placed the shrimp on the grill, di dnot season it at all and did not even turn it once and then served it----The servings were skimpy esp the vegies. We have eaten at this resturant anually---twice each year while here on vacation for years, so we know how good it used to be and on 8-30-08 it was by far the worst meal we have ever eaten for our family of five here in Myrlte Beach

I visited the restaurant on 8-8-08 and became highly disappointed with the quality of food for the price. I visit many Japanese restaurants and this one was the worst. The restaurant was filthty. As I was close to departing, I noticed food on the floor and food that has been collected in a vent on the floor where the chef cook. The only positive thing that I can speak on is the view. It had a spectacular view of the lake. But I would not advise the "rats" to eat at such a dirty establishment.

What a wonderful restaurant, only three things in life are for sure,, death, taxes and Yamato's. I always get sushi, beef filet and chicken.Sushi is California roll-shrimp roll.Rice and veggies are awesme.Wish I could figure out the recipe for the Japanese mayonaise (wow).Look forward to this place all year long. There are 11 of us that visit there every year and we are never dissapointed.I only wish that the chef's would put on a little more a show.Seems that they get bored of the silly part of the visit but we think that it is great fun. What the heck,we're on vacation.Love it,Love it

Just got back to RI tonight. Had our last dinner at Yamato. By far this was the best of all the places we dined on vacation. More people need to post their reviews to let people know to definitely get to this place!!! Reservations must be made, why take the chance on missing out? Entrees are 4 courses and a kids menu (smaller portions) Any steak, chicken or seafood lover will love it. Don't let the JAPANESE word scare you! The Best experience in Myrtle Beach for dining!!

I was disappointed with this place. Ive been to myabis many of times and compared to them yamoto does not even compare. I understand that it was busy and I was being patient but the service was still kinda slow and the portions, again compared to myabis, was horrible. It was almost not even enough to fill me up. But its a good atmosphere and the cook was very personable and the food was ok. I wouldnt recommend this, I would say go to myabis instead.

Went to Yamato's on Thursday, September 21, 2007. Arrived at 5:15 PM. Place had just opened a short time earlier. Seating was a breeze. My wife had the Chicken Hibachi Dinner, I went with the Steak and Chicken Combo along with a Sashimi appetizer. Sashimi was good for the most part. The tuna wasn't as fresh as I am used to. The rest was fresh and tasty, and I liked the presentation as well. Our chef did a very nice job...standard fare and approach for a Japanese Hibachi. Food was good. The sherbert at the end was a nice touch. Would probably try another restaurant simply becuase of our desire to try other places until we find one we fall in love with. Acceptable and good food, but didn't fall in love with the place. Thanks! Norm and Eve Connors Sinking Spring, PA

Our party of 2 dined in your restaurant on September 22,2007 around 7:30PM. We sat at table 1 with a group of 7 celebrating a birthday. It was a tight fit for that many people and one of us was dining on the corner of the table. The table seating was not the best because we were close to all the people being seated from the lobby. Our waitress,Mikyong,P., was friendly and tried to wait on us but she was assigned so many tables so we had long waits between our drinks, soup, and salad. Our chef started cooking our meal before our salads came out. He was a good cook to begin the meal. One of the people in the party of 7 ordered sushi. When it came to the table, this person began to eat it. This person decided she wanted it cooked. The chef was cooking everyone's food on the grill. He took the sushi on this person's plate and put the partly eaten food on the grill next to the other food he was cooking. Then, he took the same utensils and cooked our food and the sushi with the same utensils!!!!! I couldn"t believe what I was seeing!!! Any health inspector would have lowered the grade at this restaurant!!!

We were treated very poorly by the manager of the restaurant after finding a small piece of metal in on of our salads and after having the chef severely overcook the steak my wife ordered. When I asked to have 2 checks consolidated into one, I was told it couldn't be done "for tax purposes" and after I refused to pay 2 checks offering instead to gladly pay one combined check, the manager threatened to call the police. When I said, "Please do" he grabbed the 2 checks from me and created one, which I paid...terrible customer service!!

When my daughter visits, we eat sushi at least once. Three times we've dined at Yamato and other times we've dined at Sugami. The last time she came we ate at Yamato, which was better than Sugami. The sushi was obviously fresh and well prepared, the edamame were delicious, and the sushi chef was friendly. The restaurant and Sushi Bar both are clean and attractive. We never have to wait to get into the Sushi Bar and will continue to eat at Yamato.

We go to MB every year (for the past 13 years). Since we found Yamato's about 7 years ago, it is where we eat the first night AND the last night of our summer vacation. The chefs always entertain and the food is fantastic--cooked to perfection. I have eaten at many local Japanese restaurants, trying to find something comparable to hold me over until my next visit to MB. So far, I haven't been able to come close to Yamatos!!

I have a large golf group of 28 guys that visit Myrtle Beach every year in the spring. We always eat at Yamato's at least once during every visit. The food and service are absolutely outstanding. There is sometimes a short wait for a table especially with a large group but the bar is a great area to hang out while waiting. I've been very fortunate over the years to not have to wait long though because Wilson recognizes me and my group and does a great job getting us a table in a timely fashion. I love this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yamato's is our FAVORITE restaurant in Myrtle Beach. We go twice on our weeklong vacation every year! I noticed a bad review for the chefs' senses of humor---lighten up! It's vacation and they're trying to entertain you!! Nick is the best!! He is the head chef and we always try to request him! I crave the food all year long. I go to other Japanese restaurants throughout the year but none even compare to Yamato's at Braodway at the Beach!!! If you have another favorite--give Yamato's a chance. They will NOT disappoint!!!!

I have tried (some on more than one time): Yamato, Miyabi, Nakaso, Sugami, and Yokoso.

Yamato's is definitely the BEST of the Japanese steak houses in Myrtle Beach. I was taken to Yamato's when I visited Myrtle Beach. Since moving here, I now take my family when they come to visit. Reservations can fill up quickly in the summer, but they'll still take walk-ins. Also, check for their early bird sushi!

The sushi is excellent and the hibachi chefs are always friendly. The service is always great! Make sure to ask for Pac or Tang to be your chef - they are the BEST!!!! I visited this restaurant first in Columbia, South Carolina, and had a relatively good experience. The second time I visited Yamato's was at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. I visit Myrtle Beach almost every year and have been since I was little.

I found our chef/cook to be very sarcastic making fun of some of the customers, including myself. I am a bit overweight and he made a comment after serving me a larger portion of food by saying "all you can eat". I thought that was very rude and told him to take some of the food portion off of my plate. He didn't do it so I did it myself. He continued with this kind of behaviour acting very arrogantly. I think that it is good to have fun at these types of grills and joking should be allowed. But you should never cross the line at someone else's expense. That is just plain disrespectful and rude! I don't think I'm going to be spending my money at Yamatos again!

P.S. The service was kind of slow!

There are basically two sections to this restaurant, the hibachi grill area and the sushi bar (although you can have sushi delivered to your hibachi grill table). The food served at the hibachi grill tables are pretty good, alot better than some other Japanese hibachi restaurants I've been to. The food is seasoned just right and the portions are very generous. The various chefs put on a good show, although it is a bit corny at times. The sushi bar is absolutely great. They use very fresh and high quality fish and seafood and the sushi is served very quickly. The sushi chefs are polite, friendly, and the sushi is prepared very artistically. I think Yamato's has the best sushi in town.

My husband and I visited Yamato on Thursday, August 18th. We were very disappointed with our experience both with the cook and the check out process. We had tickets for a 9PM show just down the street and figured we had plenty of time to eat and make it to the show. We have eaten at many other Japanese Steakhouses in the past, and anticipated the same enjoyable experience. Our cook used some of the same entertaining demonstrations with onions and eggs that we have experienced in numerous other Japanese Steakhouses we have visited in the past. At one point however, a fire started very close to him. He then made a comment about lighting his balls on fire. I was mortified when he began to create a model of the male genitals with the rice he was cooking on the hibachi. Noticing the faces of myself and others at our table, he told us it was really Mickey Mouse (a far cry from this lovable character). He then re-formed the rice in the shape of buttocks and told us that it was J-Lo’s (Jennifer Lopez). I do not consider myself completely sheltered and naive, but I was completely offended and appalled by this behavior, especially in the presence of a small child at the table. The meal continued as he served everything to the men at our table first, joking that men are better than women and they work harder, so they should be served first. This would have been humorous the first time, but it continued throughout the entire meal. I consider myself an independent and intelligent woman (currently working on my doctorate and teach graduate level courses) and was completely offended by his behavior. To add to this, my New York accent was mocked throughout the entire meal. After the meal, we let the server know that we had tickets for a show at 9:00 and asked for the bill. This arrived at 8:35, in plenty of time to check out and leave with time to spare. Our bill was accidentally given to another couple at our table and we received their bill mistakenly (it was $15 higher than it should have been). Our credit cards were both incorrectly charged. When we brought it to the attention of our server, she took the cards back to correct the mistake. When she returned however, she realized she had made the same mistake a second time. She ran off to correct the bills for the third time. Meanwhile, another group at our table had to wait over 20 minutes just to have their payment even taken to the register. The server did not return with our corrected bill until after 9PM, making us late for our show. All of this took place without any appearance or apology from the manager, a courtesy I would have expected. Needless to say, this experience tainted our view of this establishment. We will keep this in mind during our future visits to Myrtle Beach and when talking with others about their upcoming visits to the beach.

I am a Myrtle Beach S.C. resident and my family and I frequently dine at the "Broadway at the Beach" Yamato. However, we will not be dining there anymore much to my regret. As of last night, Saturday-August 13th 2005, our experience was very dissapointing to say the least. Not only was it so hot that everyone was sweating and complaining, but, when I mentioned it to the manager, he told me this is how it is at a Japanese restaurant. My family and I have not had this experience here before, but apparently it is now to be expected. Furthermore, our Chef, made vulgar remarks in front of our 4yr. old daughter, and, dropped pieces of our zuchinni squash on the table while cooking-- and scooped it back onto the stove as we were all asking him to please not! I feel the automatic gratuity for this sort of service is absurd. But, what choice do we have? So, in conclusion we have decided to discontinue dining at this Yamato and I thought that it may be to your concern. I'm hoping that ,maybe, the restaurant will be restored to it's original condition in the future because we used to enjoy it greatly. Suzanne

My family has gone to North Myrtle Beach every summer for years, and ever since Yamato opened, we've made a point to have dinner there at least once during the week. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is fun, and it's just overall great!!

We ate Japanese for the first time here with a party of about 8-10. My kids loved the cooking in front of you and how they cut up the onions to make a pyramid with fire in it. A little too much soy sauce but edible. We will probably go back again if we have another party going.

Best Japanese Food I have ever eaten. My first visit but definitely not our last. We are already planning a visit from North Carolina just to eat there. Filet and Shrimp are wonderful, juicy and tender. RH

I vacation to Myrtle Beach several times per year and I always return to Yamato. Absolutely the BEST Japanese Steakhouse around. The Chefs are great and fun! The food is outstanding! And you get lots of it! A sophisticated and fun place to eat. The price is reasonable and comparable to many fine restaurants in the area. It is highly recommended!
