I've been to Umberto's six times over the past few years on trips from Philadelphia with friends. Food is excellent and portions are large. I recently requested a copy of the Italian Beans & Greens recipe, a great dish that is served complimentary at each table. The Dining Room is not loud but energetic; booths in bar dining room on the other side are more private. If you don't like this place you have problems.

We are from Pittsburgh and this is not real Italian cooking. Maybe at one time it was but not now! I guess when you become famous you forget about the quality of food and your customers. Very disappointed with food and staff not too friendly.

Our waiter was I believe, one of the owners. He was very proud of his place and rightfully so. Like all the other reviews, the food, service, and wine so wonderful. But the friendliness and the ability to laugh and talk with us while we drank coffee and sambuca made the evening worth docking there again.

We retired to Myrtle Beach in June 2012 from Philadelphia PA area and were looking for a good Italian restaurant. After trying 20 different highly recommended places; we believe that Umberto's is the best Italian restaurant in the Grand Strand area. The quality of the food is excellent; they serve you three courses of soup, salad and pasta before your entree, which is included in the entree price; so if you leave hungry it is your fault. The entrees were large and outstanding. We did not have room for dessert. The wine was excellent; they have a great wine list. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a great meal at a slightly higher price but worth it for the quality of food and service. We take everyone who visits us to Umberto's for a great meal.

My wife and I have been coming to Myrtle Beach for the past 20 years. Eventually will move there. We have had our Sunday dinner at Umberto's every year for the past ten years. The food and service have always been the best. We usually leave with enough food to have for lunch for about three days. We have met the owners and now the daughter of the owners who I believe is now one of the owners. Our favorite person is Stephan the bartender. Everyone has always been personable and very friendly. have recommended this restaurant to everyone we know that goes to Myrtle Beach. Molte grazie

My group of 14 ate at Umberto's on Saturday, April 30, 2011. We have been coming to Umberto's for 15 years. All I can say is the food is excellent, the staff great especially Stephan our one and only server. We make our reservation well inadvance and come on time and our table has always been ready. The drinks at the bar are always on the money and the bartenders are top notch. It is a fun place with great food and a great atmosphere. We will continue to come to Umberto's for as long as we return to Myrtle beach. It is a can't miss dining establishment. See you on Saturday, April 21, 2012 Stephan!

Had dinner here with my family after reading the reviews on all the restaurants in Barefoot Landing. I was not disappointed. We walked in without reservations and were seated immediately. The waiter Brian was amazing. He knew the menu very well and could easily answer any question. Service was great and fast. Lots of food. They bring you three appetizers and hot bread before the meal you order. I had the salmon stephano which was excellent. Would definitely return in a heartbeat and would highly recommend this restaurant.

Just ate at Umberto's and it was our worst dining experience in several years. Called in the early afternoon and got an 8 PM reservation for two. Arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated right away. The noise level from that point on was like being in a foundry with a deafening roar such that you could hardly hear each other. The thermostat on the wall accross from us read 82 degrees. Service on the early portion of the meal was quick and then it fell apart. My mixed grill was an overdone porkchop that was as dry as pork can get. My wife's shrimp scampi were cold. We asked for to go boxes just so we could we could get out of this roaring heat and noise. We went there on a friend's recommendation, but will never return!

My husband and I have been coming to Myrtle Beach for 23+ years (sometimes twice a year). I think we've missed Umberto's at Barefoot Landing only once, because they close for some winter months. Umberto's has always felt like family to us. Plenty of great food, service with a sense of humor and more good memories than we can count. We miss Bob and Rosemary (still owners, but they are semi-retired), but the tradition with their daughter Nina carries on. We love the mixed grill and when the plates arrive, we check out how everyone's eyes pop out. It never disappoints. Everyone we play golf with, we tell them about Umberto's. Everyone we know who has been to Myrtle Beach has been to and love's Umberto's. It is one of the highlights of our vacation.

Although this restaurant was recommended to us many times, we were not very impressed with the atmosphere. Plastic patio chairs???? Lighting too bright. Maybe because we didn't know what to expect. But the food was very good. The veal dishes are very tasty and not overcooked. I had the lobster ravioli with shrimp on top in a pink vodka sauce. It was very tasty--had a little kick which was not over the top. They serve three courses--hot white cannelloni beans, tomato salad, side of pasta and your entree. The portions are more than ample. They have a nice wine menu--we selected a Chianti. We might go back when we're in MB but it was just okay.

We ate early and got a seat by the window overlooking the water which was nice but the room soon filled with three groups of eight or more people which made it hard to hear each other talk. The first course of "beans & greens" had nice flavor but I think a bowl would have been more appropriate than a plate. The server just put the plates on the edge of the table - not in front of us. "Salad" of tomatoes, peppers & onions was OK - nice flavor to dressing but tomatoes not overly tasty and skins tough. Bread crust was very dry for Italian bread. Our main dishes were OK and portions large. Overall OK but not worth such high prices.

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. We got in on Saturday and had reservations for 8:30. Were seated pretty quickly but the noise level was insane. There were a couple of larger tables in there that probably made it worse. The booth had not been cleaned, there was food on the table, the benches and the floor. There were a couple of napkins under my feet that hadn't been picked up. There was a blob of food in the aisle that waiters just walked right over or stepped in without bothering to clean it up.

The menu was something else - everything in there was overpriced, and usually I'd expect some type of salad selection but this had none. The only salad was the house salad which was tomatoes and onions and nothing else. Everything on the menu was deep fried or swimming in oil.

They obviously needed help, the waiters were running around like crazy and it took forever to get your food. This was not a fun experience!

Umberto's is an Italian restaurant with a heady dose of Pittsburgh. Not only is it filled with Pittsburgh paraphernalia - from Terrible Towels to photos of important locations and people - but the food is done Pittsburgh style.

You get a great value for your money. The entrees are between $15 and $25 (maybe one or two are more expensive) and all come with a minimum 5 course meal. It starts with a loaf of bread and moves on to a dish of beans 'n greens, a mix of beans, macaroni, and seasonings. The next course is a tomato, pepper, onion, and olive oil salad. Absolutely great. A dish of spaghetti and a light marinara sauce leads into your entree. For a few bucks more, you can make it a 7 course meal by adding an appetizer and a desert. No-where else in Myrtle Beach, and possibly anywhere, will $25 buy you that much food at a restaurant.

My wife and I had the fried provolone for an appetizer, great. She ordered the Chicken Marsala and I had some Veal Antonio, stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella. Both entrees tasted great. We finished it off with two real cannolis. These are real cannolis, fresh filling in a great pastry. We went to Italy last year and this food absolutely is done in true Italian style. The entire meal took almost 3 hours, just slightly shorter than the meals in Sicily lasted!

One last thing - I grew up in Pittsburgh until I was 20. The restaurant attracts people who live or lived in the area. We enjoyed wonderful conversation with a nice family from Glassport. If you are from the area, chances are you can enjoy some conversation with semi-neighbors, not necessarily a bad thing if you are going to be there for three hours.

We will dine here again next time we visit. I highly recommend it to others.

We decided to try this restaurant based on some of the high reviews. For starters our "bald" waiter that others seem to like so well was arrogant and rather rude. The plastic chairs and tables left much to be desired. The food was bland we ordered chic parm, chicken marsalla, and lasagna not anything like Authentic Italian that we were hoping for. The best food were the starters the beans and tomato salad. We WON"T ever eat here again go elsewhere there are much better restaurants.....

This is absolutely the worst resturant I have ever been to.When we walked through the door we were never greeted by anyone. We later discovered the host smoking a cigarette in the bar.We were finally seated by a waiter Kevin, very nice guy and appoligized for the incident. Our waiter Tom appeared to be drunk. The food was terrible. I had a veal dish.My wife had the Grouper which we sent back, it smelled like bleach. As we were leaving the host never acknowledged us as we left.Needless to say this was not a good dining experience.Someone needs to take the proper steps in taking action for these events. This resturant has a good lacation but that is about it.No management!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad found this place years ago while on a golfing trip. He visited many times over the years and raved about the stuffed peppers and how nice and friendly the owner was as he would bring out a sample plate free of charge with different appetizers on it. The first time my family visitied Myrtle Beach, we were dying to try it. I have to say it lived up to my dad's hype. Stuffed peppers were to die for and tomatoe salad was perfectly seasoned. I have continued to go back the past several years and had great meals. We celebrated my parent's 50th Anniversary at Umberto's with 30 people and had a fantastic time, great service and a great meal. Growing up with Italian grandparents right off the boat makes me a critic of italian food. Is it grandmoms, no, but definitely worth the visit. Unfortunatley, not all restaurants live up to their reputations every single visit.

Our family has been coming to Umberto's for over 12 years and have always enjoyed the experience. The food is great and we love the feeling of the family atmosphere. I must say that we have noticed a few negative reviews of the "bald waiter" and we are shocked--he is our favorite! We have also recommended Umberto's (and, Chris, the "bald waiter") to many family and friends over the years in the NY/NJ area and have not heard a complaint yet. In life, as in the restuarant business, there are all kinds of people and I guess there will always be those that love to jump on the "complaint bandwagon". We are certainly not those people and will continue to enjoy Umberto's great food and excellent service for years to come.

We had wonderful family and group gatherings at this restaurant. The menu and service were fabulous. This place has a great reputation and lives up to it. Except.....about the bald waiter that was mentioned in previous reviews. Our first visit with him was great. Our second visit with him not so good. He failed to see that our dinner guests were tipping him cash as well, before he exclaimed his anger at the tip we placed on our credit card. We won't be back if he is working.

It's been about 7 years since my last visit to Umberto's and basically forced my two friends to come with me last night because I talked it up so much. Thankfully Umberto's did not disappoint at all. I loved it, and they definitely loved it. Prices may seem expensive at first but the quality and quantity of it more than makes up for the slight dent in your wallet. Highly recommended.

I have been going to myrtle beach for the last 10 years and this is a great place. i live in new york and dine at the best places, this place is cheap, good food and great service. i have had dinner at least twenty times there not once was bad service. Not for nothing but if you are leaving the waiter or waitress 5 or 10 percent you deserve bad service. Do your self and the waiter/waitress a favor and stay in!! I see you people out and feel bad for every waiter/waitress out there. Get with it, it is 20% for bad service 25% for good service and 30% for great service yes quit being cheap it is embarrasing for your wife, even i feel bad for you guys. good food great people top place in myrtle p.s. the bald guy waited on me and could not have been nicer. quit being cheap and get with the program losers.

I have ate at Umberto's approximately 15 times and can not once say I had a bad meal. Everytime my wife and I visit the beach we make sure we eat at Umberto's. If you like pork chops there's no better and bring your appetite. I read a review from Alloy, West Virginia who said they had a problem with a bald waiter in his 30's. He's been my waiter almost evertime I had eaten there and I never had a problem he's alway's been polite and knows the menu, however if you left me a 7 dollar tip I might of chased you also. Also for the people who wrote the review from Grove City, Ohio if your worried about 8 dollars for spliting a dish, which sometimes is enough for 4 people maybe you shouldn't eat out, stay home and count your money. Keep up the good work Umberto's...

went to Umberto's and even though i am a philadelphia eagles fan, the memorabilia of the steelers didn't stop me from entering....LOL --- what a great job and awesome atmosphere. even though pink isn't my thing, apparently it is the "good luck" color of the owner bobby. we found that out from the visits to our table. the food was excellent and the family style it was presented left us all stuffed. i'd recommend this place to anyone anytime and if you stop in and meet the owner, tell him andy from philly says hi... Umbertos was the best Italian restaurant i've been to in MB thus far. The bread was good, and I also liked the bean appetizer and the tomato appetizer. I had poached salmon for dinner and it was excellent. my fiancee had a chicken dish w/ prociutto and cheese and he liked it a lot. The only thing i didn't like was the angel hair pasta that came with the dinner, i did not think the sauce was good. But other than that i would definitely return on my next trip to MB!

Umberto's is an annual tradition for us. I'm not the food expert in the family, and am the least Italian of the group, but NOBODY ever leaves here hungry!!! Food is great and plentiful, atmosphere is lively and familial, and it's about the best mix of luxury and beach that you're going to find.

After going through the other reviews, I have only two comments: 1) two bad (actually, nasty and probably exaggerated) reviews out of 60. That means 97% or reviews were positive. And 2) Excellent is not a high enough rating for the level of service. These waiters are professionals, not students on break. The bald gentleman noted in one of the reviews (sorry I can't remember his name) is probably the best server we've ever had. He's been there for years, we've had him several times and I'm always impressed.

My one criticism- the place is too nice for plastic chairs. Time to upgrade.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with all of the great reviews. For starters our waiter was rude he had an attitude. The tables and chairs were cheap plastic the noise level was so bad it sounded like a big roar. The food was NOT good I guess some folks just don't know good Italian because this place in the food, ambiance, and quality was way below average. Myrtle beach has alot of great restaurants to choose from unfortunately Umberto's is not one of them..

My only suggestion is that if you're a hardy eater don't let anyone tell you to take it easy during the pre meal food.My first time I did and wished I hadn't. It's better to leave with a doggie box than regrets. They'll give you as much as you want but once it's gone it's gone.

Our golf group has been visiting Umberto's annually for many years. It is always a "must" stop for us. The food is very good. The various fixed courses that are served are very interesting, from the pomodoro salad, to the pasta y fagioli soup. The entrees are always delicious...steaks and chops to fresh fish to wonderful pasta. Ignore the negative comments, this is a very nice authentic Italian restaurant. that could compete with the best in Little Italy, NYC.

Everything about this restaurant was wondeful! From the superb staff to the excellant food! The fried provolone and banana perppers were awesome! The staff was very caring to special needs diets. We loved the pork chops!! If you love meat, this place has the best chops in the grand strand period! The pasta (vodka rigs) and sauce was excellant too. I think majority of reviews speak for this restaurant. It was excellant! I have recommended to everyone I know that comes to Myrtle Beach! Go with a hungry belly! We own a timeshare in North Myrtle, and visit yearly. Somehow, we always dine at Umberto's one night of the week. We have never had anything that wasn't very good, service has always been top-notch. It can a tad noisy, but we're usually here at the time of year that the place is swimming with golfers, so no big deal. We would rate Umberto's behind only Greg Norman's Australian Grille for better dining (read, not a seafood buffet) in the NMB area.

The service is excellent and the food well you get so much for what you pay!! Even the kids can't wait to return. I suggest this place 100%, For the price you pay at buffett places....why bother...just go to Umberto's. It is not as expensive and you get the best service!!!! I don't know what all of the Hype about this restaurant is. I for one must Agree with World Traveler. The service was Poor we had an arrogant server a young Bald Man. The Food was Way below average No Flavor. Yes the servings are large, but it was not good. To be such an Upscale restaurant the tables, and chairs were cheap plastic outdoor furniture with a Tablecloth covering them. This is one restaurant that we will not return to, and will pass on to others it is not worth a dime.

We read a review by a world traveler who really gave Umberto's a poor rating. What was he thinking or tasting? My wife and I had an excellent meal with great service. I had the Zuppa deMare and she had the Veal FraDiavalo and both were very tasty. The sauce was not oily as can be the case for Zuppa and the marinara on my wife's side of pasta was light as it should be. To add, the meal was preceded with pasta fagioli and a tomato salad with vinegar and oil at no extra cost. We brought home much of our meal because of the large portions. We would recommend Umberto's without reservation.

Folks, I have mixed emotions about this resturant. The quantity of the food was above average. My wife and I got way more food that we could eat. The quality of the food depends on your taste of food. I am from ohio and am use to the american version of Italian food. For example, instead of a salid with lettuce, they serve a bowl of tomatos with salid dressing on them. The bowl of tomatos is authentic Italian. However, I prefer a good old american salad with Italian dressing. The main course (in our case lasagna and chicken parm) tasted rather bland as compared to other Itialian resturants I have been to. The lasagna lacked true flavor as it mostly consisted of ricotta cheese and noddles. Yes, the ground beef and sauce where present. However, the ricotta and sauce over powered the dish. The chicken parm was big enough to server two people (the resturant will charge an extra $8.00 if you try to share a dinner). The chicken parm lacked any complex flavor. Basically what you would expect: fried chicken brest with cheese and sauce on it. However, I have had way better chicken parm at other resturants. The fllavor just wasn't there. To summarize, the quantity is excellent but the taste quality is not there. Not that the food is bad, just not what I expected or wanted. The total tab for us was $55.00. Our dinner included: 1 glass of house wine, chicken parm, lasanga, fried cheese appatizer and a glass of iced tea.

We've gone to Myrtle Beach almost every year since 1988, an Umberto's is the only restaurant we make sure to visit on every trip. The atmosphere is light and open with the usual assortment of photos of Italian celebs on the walls. It can be a bit loud since there are often large parties, and golf groups. Service has always been very good. The reason we always go back is the food. Each entree is actually a full course dinner including crusty bread, an appetizer (usually pasta fagioli), a salad of chunks of plum tomatoes and peppers, and angel hair pasta in a garlicky fresh tomato sauce. By the time the entree arrives, you're already full, and most of it becomes tomorrow's lunch. This year I had the grouper, simply broiled with Italian bread crumbs. It was probably the best seafood dish I ever had. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and extra courses. For kids, they serve half-size portions of most entrees for half-price. One suggestion for families- don't be tempted to dine in separate bar area to shorten your wait for a table. It's dim and smokey.

Our family of four adults and one child dined here 8/23/07. The items that were brought out in the beginning were very good, however Mom and dad ordered the lasagna which they said was very bland hardly any meat and swimming in Ricotta cheese. I ordered the Chicken Marsalla it tasted like a bottle of wine was dumped over it. I had it replaced with the chicken Parm. My husband had a steak it was well prepared and excellent. The meats are their speciality I would say.

Now here is the BAD part.

Our service was average we left $7.00 which was sufficient our waiter was average to below.

Upon trying to exit the restaurant he met us at the door. The place was packed with people waiting for a table. He was furious shaking the money at us saying that if that was the best we could do we should have eaten at Mcdonald's. We tried to ignore him. He proceeded to chase us outside, yelling, calling us cheap, and said if he was'nt so busy he would take care of us. My 6 year old daughter was with us -- he was yelling obsenties. We refused to stoop to his level of a childish temper tantrum. We notified security and the officer returned to the restaurant with my dad and husband. They spoke with the General Manager she acted as if she was too busy to deal with the situation. Obviously this has happened before, and they feel as if it's ok to act this way. He was 30ish and bald.

Just a warning if you do decide to dine at Umberto's and he is your waiter you have been warned. There are way too many restaurants in Myrtle Beach to waste your time or money here. Try Carrabba's they are Excellent and treat you like a valued customer. Tips are given according to service - he was'nt worth the $7.00.

My husband and I vacation in Myrtle Beach every year. About 17 years ago we found Umberto's and have enjoyed it each time we go. The food is great (World Traveller --notice I'm using the word great), and the service is wonderful.

I take offense to World Traveller as to the comment that the majority of people really don't know what great food is. Get over yourself, "World". Read the reviews---who really has the problem.

It's simple---try Umberto's---you'll go back.

Our party of four adults and one child dined here on 8/23/07. The starters were excellent my husband had the steak it was perfect. Mom and dad had the lasagna much to be desired with it most was left. I ordered the chicken Marsala it was awful I traded for the chicken Parm it was much better. Service was so so the waiter was really working the bigger tables, but not to busy to be a bit more attentive to us. Here is the kicker we left a $7.00 tip, we were on our way out and our waiter who was 30ish and bald met us irate at the door shaking our tip and yelling "if you can't do any better than this you should have eaten at Mc'donalds. I replied service would have been better. He proceeded to follow us outside yelling he would take care of us if he was'nt so busy. We contacted security they go involved and a report was filed. The place was packed we are decent people and have never been treated this way. Can't speak of the other servers just a tip if you have a bald waiter beware he expects BIG tips...We will NOT return and are spreading the word to others about our experience. The So called General manager could have cared less about the incident she even witnessed it he must do this often. If you want Friendly servers and better Italian try Carrabbas it is Excellent. One more thing for them to be such a "Fancy" restaurant they could do better than Plastic black Pool type chairs.

Just got back from Myrtle Beach. We love Umberto's and go every time we visit. To world traveler we are from Italy and this food was the best what I order every time I go is not on the menu and they have no problem making it. Maybe world traveler is CHEAP and just did not want to pay for thier bill. If every review is postive and thiers was negative that does that say. The magagement and staff are very friendly and nice.

Plenty of good Italian food. Our family of 5 walked out of Umberto's totally stuffed. Our waitress was excellent, helping to guide us through the menu. A mistake was made on our order, but she apologized for her mistake, and made up for it with a free dessert. We had reservations, so there was no wait. I would recommend reservations, as we saw many people waiting for a table.

If you go to Umberto's at Barefoot Landing, go hungry. They serve you several delicious courses before the entree, and there's something to love about each one whether you're a vegetable lover like my wife or a meat and potatoes/pasta guy like me.

The entrees are superb, but they are tough to finish unless you're ravenous and/or you ignore the initial courses (DON'T DO THAT! LOL!). The desserts look very nice, but I've never had enough room left to try any.

It's not a super-swank establishment, but it is nicer than many casual dining places you find in shopping plazas like Barefoot Landing. They crowd in a lot of tables to accommodate as many customers at a time as they can. The restaurant's popularity, good prices, and the large number of customers in it are what cause the seating time and noise level to be less than perfect.

Over all, though, it'd be a shame to miss Umberto's if you go anywhere near Barefoot Landing.

This was absolutely the worst dining experience I have ever had! it was so unreal I felt as though I was on a hidden television show! I went to this restaurant on my sister's 16th birthday while on vacation. It was our second trip there in that week. The first time we went we had a party of 11 people and spent good money in the restaurant. Even though the staff wasn't the best we enjoyed the food and decided to go back (this time with 6 people). We ordered an appetizer, wine and 6 entrees, each around $20. Two of the people (including the birthday girl) had ordered steaks that tasted very dry and un-fresh. We politely told the waiter of the problem and requested that their meals be replaced with something different. Everything seemed fine until a man who I assume was the manager aggressively approached our table claiming that the steaks were fine. Then a woman (who I believe is the owner’s daughter) came over and started yelling at us, waving her arms and causing a huge scene in the restaurant. We all sat there in shock as the two screamed at us! at this point we started to get upset because they had completely ruined our evening. We told them that we would never come back and the woman told us we weren't welcome back and the man told us to get the f#*% out. At this point, the chef (who is very large) had come out as if he were a bodyguard, as well as most of the staff. Finally, they walked away and had our waiter bring over the bill (which included everything we ordered, including the steaks that were sent back, barely touched). Meanwhile, a table nearby told the owner's daughter how appalled they were by the way she and the other gentleman had handled that situation. The woman rudely responded by telling them that their opinion didn't matter and she didn't care if they came back either. My family and I were very upset, didn't finish our meals and paid the bill in full to avoid anymore chaos. The entire staff then stood at the door as we walked out. I am not saying that the menu is terrible because many of their items are actually quite good. However, if you do happen to order something that isn't to your liking or tastes bad, just remember you're stuck with it because management could careless about satisfying it’s customers! please don’t ignore this review or the one written by the "world traveler" based on other’s pleasant experiences. I had dined in umberto’s before and had an overall positive outlook on the restaurant as well until this happened. I do not know the “world traveler” but I can completely relate to what he went through and I don’t doubt a word of what he said. In my opinion two very negative experiences overshadow the positive ones.

After recently visiting Myrtle Beach, I dined at Umberto's twice and was dissapointed both times. I ordered the pork the first night and could'nt believe the size of the chops. They were big however, in the menu it stated that the chops were lightly seasoned. They should just be honest with you and say the pork is bland and you need a chainsaw to cut through. The second night there, we were celebrating a birthday and the service was horrible. The drinks were rarely refilled and everything was served to us much too late. For my main course, myself and two other people at my table ordered the sirloin steak. We were extremely dissapointed with the tenderness of the steak and the taste. Our slow waiter got the managers and we were chastised for not liking the meal. In every dining experience the customer should always be right. The female manager should have never been allowed to manage a business. She insulted my family, declared that our food was perfect, and wasnt going to exchange our meals or give us any kind of refund. After being yelled at for a length of time my brother quietly tolled them to "just take the f------ steaks". Shortly after a waiter told us to "get the f--- out of here". My father told him to watch his mouth and the waiter replied in a cocky tone "what are you gonna do about it"! I would advise everyone not to waste there time with this restaurant.

Just got back from myrtle beach. Umberto's was the first place we ate - at the recommendation of a friend. At the end of the week we agreed that umberto's was the best meal we had. I had veal somethingorother (it had procuitto and other stuff) - it was delicious. My husband had steak w/ scampi. Also delicious. We called for reservations at 7pm and couldn't get in until 8:15 - no big deal. But once we got there and were seated I feel like the service was slow. Worth the wait - except for the three hungry and tired children. The waiter forgot my appetizer, but then brought it anyway with dinner and didn't charge me. Would definitely go again! oh - and we smelled completely like garlic afterwards!.

"World Traveller" needs to just go away. You can't please everyone. Sometimes, you just have to kick them out of your restaurant. The Umberto's owner and staff did themselves and the rest of us a favor when they booted WT and friend out onto the boardwalk.

This place is great. If you're looking for a nice, quiet atmosphere, this is not it. If you're looking for great food for a good price and you want to be in a lively atmosphere, look no further. The pork chops are unbelievable. They give you two and each of them are HUGE. You've never seen chops like these - trust me. I order them every year and vow I will finish both chops. After I get one down, it's usually time to wave the white flag.

The scampi is delicious. I usually get this when we visit the restaurant for the second time during our week-long stay at MB. If you ever see the grouper on the menu, I recommend that as well. It's usually a special dish, though, and not on the menu.

We've had nothing but great experiences with the wait staff. They are familiar with us now and usually treat us to something special at the conclusion of our dinner.

I can't say enough about Umberto's. I simply love the place and wish I could live there.

Well, Umberto's is usually the highlight of the time I spend at the beach. The food is definitely some of the best I've ever had, and there is so much of it. I dont know how to express how much I enjoy this restaurant. Just pretty damn good Italian food, a comfortable atmosphere, and overall a good time. Unlike our "world traveler" friend who posted such a sterling review below, I would have to say that Umberto's offers GREAT FOOD and GREAT SERVICE (notice that I am saying GREAT). Although he cannot understand all the positive reviews of this restaurant, I for one can, and I can tell you that they are valid. If you eat there, you will see for yourself how marvelous this place really is. You dont need to go to Milan, Venice, Florence, New York, or Chicago to get "real" Italian food, especially when you are right here at Umberto's, although nobody told the "world traveler" that apparently. Maybe he would have enjoyed it better had he checked his ego at the door. To tell the majority (aka, every other review) that WE dont know GOOD food because we all enjoyed Umberto's food, just goes to show the arrogance and overall stupidity of his review. If he enjoys eating "real" italian food, maybe he should just travel his way back to Europe... God knows our country would be a better place without people like him. Sorry for the rant at the end, but to see someone rip on a restaurant as high of quality as Umberto's made me feel like I had to defend it. I have eaten there over 10+ times, and always a delicious meal, each and every time. A place like this is worth defending. Bottom Line: If you like SUPERB FOOD, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. ENJOY!

Our experience at Umbertos started out lovely. The food was amazing, our waiter divine. It's a shame however that when we rec'd a main dish with a piece of hair in it that the owner stormed back to our table and accused us of placing the hair their ourselves. I've never been so shocked. She started yelling - and blaming a 2 year old for putting her hair in the dish. It's truly hard to imagine how a rationale adult could have behaved so badly. What a poor reflection on the orginial owners of Umbertos (her parents). She would definetly benefit from taking a few customer service classes and reflecting on how she should treat others - especially paying patrons in her restaurant. While we enjoyed our meal until that point I'd have to not reccomend this establishment to others. God forbid something not come out of the kitchen to your liking - you'll be verbally assulted. Visit anywhere else in Myrtle...

Umberto's is a great Restaurant. Each year when my wife and I vacation in Myrtle Beach, we make one night an Umberto's night. I have dined all over the country and parts of the world, and I must say...to have great Italian Food in South Carolina...Umberto's is the Place. The service is exceptional; as well, as the food and atmosphere. If your in Myrtle Beach, you must visit Umberto's at Barefoot Landing.

Italian food is my favorite. I've been many Italian restaurants in Myrtle Beach, and in my hometown of Pittsburgh. I went to Umbertos with high expectations based on rave online reviews. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Umbertos is by far the worst Italian restaurant I've ever been too. The bean soup tasted like canned or frozen beans - even the waitress said she didn't like it either when we complained. The tomato-only salad was drowned in oil. Veal was thick, tough and chewy. Chicken was veiny, overcooked and drowned in sauce. The place was noisy and full of flies, the bus staff was inattentive - we couldn't even get refills of water. Save yourself the aggravation and go to one of the much better Italian restaurants in Myrtle Beach!

YOU MUST VISIT THIS RESTAURANT and ignore the comments from the "World Traveler"! To me, it says something that there are "rave" reviews from over thirty people and only one negative review. I definitely would go with the majority on this! We have visited this restaurant many times and never come away disappointed. I agree with the one reviewer that the "World Traveler" is just the type of person that needs to complain. Don't take that advise - make this a "must do" on every visit to the Myrtle Beach area. You'll be thrilled!!!

Umberto's is a true treasure. The Shrimp Scampi is fantastic. I read all the reviews prior to writing mine and have to say, I hope World Traveler never goes back to Umberto's--leaves more for the rest of us who appreciate good food, good service, and an enjoyable time. We've been going to Umberto's for 9 years and have never had a bad experience. When my students ask what my favorite restaurant is, I'm proud to say Umberto's!

I read the review from the individual who said they are a "world" traveler. I to have been to Italy numerous times and granted the food is wonderful Umberto's is much closer and alot easier to get to. My family and I ate there and loved it. On another trip we tried a different resturant that was praised by some of the locals. When asked if they had enjoyed Umberto's they said no. Well after trying the others we are back at Umberto's, for good. The waiter we had was wonderful. The food was wonderful and the dollar value for the amount of food was excellent. I am a firm believer that this is one of the better resturants in Myrtle Beach and a must go to if you like Italian food. Portions are excellent and are plated wonderfully.
