My fiancee and I are locals here in MB. Thorny's supposedly has the best steak around. Maybe once upon a time, but the food we had was awful. We ordered the buffalo shrimp, Hawaiian steak, the bloomin onion and sweet potato fries. The shrimp was edible, but it tasted like someone had just dumped a bottle of hot sauce on it. The steak was poor quality. It says on the menu it is marinated, but I could barely taste it. We had asked for medium well and it was rare in places. The bloomin onion was pretty much a wilted pile of grease. The sweet potato fries were the worst of our order...they had this burnt, pungent odor about them that was almost sickening. The service was sub par as well, our finished plates sat around until we left. I would absolutely not recommend this restaurant.

We decided to stop by this restaurant because of the reviews and we were very pleasantly surprised even during Bike Week. Service was good and the food was excellent. We got the $5.00 specials at the bar. The ribs were perfect, the wings should have halos around them. Great place to stop after a day at the beach!

My daughter and I ate dinner there and it was the worse we have ever eaten. Our waitress spent more time talking to the male hostess and bartender than taking care of her patrons.. We looked for her and the only person we saw was the bartender laying out between two of the bar chairs drinking something out of a cup from another restaurant.... Lol. We couldn't enjoy our dinner since everything came out within 2 mins of each other. We had to keep asking the waitress for things she should have given to us at the beginning...... Who has potato skins and never given a plate to eat them on.....:(. We will not go back!. Sad thing we are local so we won't be helping them through the down time and telling all our friends:(. Not good!.

Thorny's Steakhouse is by far the worst steak I've ever had. In fact, I'll never eat steak again after that. I spent $100 and it was no where near worth it. Afterwards we went to Duffy's. You have to go there. It might not be to your liking but it was right up our alley... And the food smelled great.

This was our 3rd year to eat at Thorny's on our MB vacation. We have always loved it!! This year we had a party of 9 and were a little disappointed in our waitress....We had to ask for rolls, refills on drinks and also had to ask 3 times for extra dressing and an extra plate. Her attitude was also not the best from the beginning. The lettuce in our salads was kind of on the brown side and most salads were not eaten because of this.2 people in our party ordered blackened steak, one was done this way and the other was not. However that being said, the rest of the food was awesome as usual!!! This was the first time I tasted the Baked Potato soup and it was so good! I am not a drinker but couldn't wait to go back this year to get a "Thorny's Crush"...LOL... they are yummy!!!! We will definitely be going back next year.....

After many trips to MB we recently discovered Thornys. My ONLY mistake was not finding this place sooner! We tried a variety of dishes (steak, ribs, pasta) and ALL were outstanding! Very good salads, sides & apps as well for a price that is well within the range of surrounding places. We will most definitely return to Thornys.

We have visited this restaurant several times as we come to Myrtle Beach and it used to be on our "must do" list, however after tonight, we'll be taking it off the list. Waitress mixed up our orders, food arrived cold, and it was cooked wrong. We had previously chosen it because of the kids play area, but almost everything costs money now and it was not the relaxing evening we're used to...

4 friends and I travel to Myrtle for Bike week twice a year. We usually spend 2 nights and 3 days there. That is 2 dinners. Without question one of the dinners is at Thorney's. We have never had a bad meal or bad service. As a matter of fact the servers have always been awesome to us. It;s has been a 8 year tradition and I dont see it ending anytime soonl

Be careful folks. If you have a party of 6 or more they will charge a service charge. This is not a tip according to the manager and cannot be disputed. We had two separate bills. Between the two parties (one of 3 people and one of 4) we were charged $22 dollars for a service fee. Had we sat at two separate tables, we would NOT have been charged this fee. We then would have had a choice of the amount we tipped. This was told to us by the manager himself. He also had no clue of how to handle a dispute and did absolutely nothing to help. He wouldn't even give us a name of a store owner or email, or even an upper level manager. The food was good but the service was NOT worth over $20 in a tip.

We thought the meal were very expensive. We went in for lunch and paid $27.00 for a cheeseburger, 1 appetizer., 1 salad, 2 pepsi's. The salad was not good the cheeseburger was good. the potato skins were to rich. The rolls were delicious. But we would not go back or recommend it to anyone. But the waitress was very good.

Great meal. Waiter was great, he bought my son a new frisbee because the one they sent out was pink--which was kinda girlie. They kept our glasses full and there was very little wait for the meal. Every table has a TV..its great. Games and kiddie section. They have this sea salt scrub--they were out of it when we went but if you can find it..get it!!! A great place to go..a must do.

We've eaten there on several occasions over the last few winters and were mostly satisfied except for our 2009 trip. One of the guys said something to the waitress immediately after she introduced herself that offended her. It wasn't off color or anything, she just didn't care for his tone. She was pretty chilly to us after she snarled at him and I would have reduced her tip accordingly if I'd had the chance. I agree that she needn't listen to a bunch of guff from patrons but when the customer is compelled to pay a 20% gratuity she should at least try to admonish his behavior with a bit more civility.

Thorny's is a great place to take the kids. Solid children's menu, tv's at the table, arcade and toddler play area. Wonderful way to have a meal without whining. Unfortunately, adult meals were just adequate. Sirloin was cooked medium rare and still managed to be dried out. Ribs were cooked well, but the homemade bbq sauce needs some tweaking. (not enough sweet, too much vinegar and onion) Still would head back since the kids really enjoyed it.

I have to say we made an excellent choice. The wait time, service and food were excellent. It did help that there were TVA at the booths so my husband could watch sports too :). Each time we have stopped at Thorny's. It is a request of our kids. They love the shirts and the slogans. This will have been the last time we eat there. This time we went with our whole family- 16 people. Seating was fine service was ok. The food was just average.I have had better meals at chain steakhouses, but still I would've gone backuntil...After we paid our bill- over $400- my daughter found a shirt she wanted, but the only one her size was on the wall. Even though it was the end of the year and they were trying to dump all of their inventory by offering them for free during early bird hours, the clerk would not get the display shirt off the wall. The owner came over and said he wasn't going to do it. When we asked why he said he had a restraunt to run and wasn't going to worry about shirts. when we explained he had just spent $400 he said he did not care, he didn't need the money for the shirt. we asked what kind of customer service is that and he got mad and threatened to call the cops. This is not the type of businessman that anyone should be spending money with. we had another $100 worth of merchandise to buy and he didn't need our money. which is good because he will NEVER get a dime of it from anyone- especially my parents who travel and eat there yearly.

My husband, myself and our 2 teenagers went to Thorny's for the first time in a few years. We vacation in Myrtle Beach each summer. We are now trying to figure out why we stopped going here! We had the best experience! We had steak, prime rib, and burgers. All fantastic! The baked potato soup was awesome! It was so fast too. We were in and out in less than an hour (6:15pm ish arrival on a Friday night) and we were done in no more than an hour. Service was great too. Our waitress was so nice and friendly. TV at our table (not all tables had them) and a small game/play room was great for the kids. We can't wait to go back next summer!

They have decent food and fun shirts, but they seem to think they do not have to provide customer service. My daughter wanted a small shirt and they had none on the floor, but they had one on the wall. We asked if they could get it down for us and we were told no. All of this was AFTER we just spent $500 for 17 people to eat. We were told by the manager/owner he did not need our money. He also made a random threat to call the cops if we did not leave. We then returned everything else we had already bought and left. We come to this area yearly and my parents twice a year. We will never be back. Pretty arrogant for a manager to treat anyone this way in a down economy. Honestly, their shirts and slogans were a huge reason we kept comong back.

We wanted to go somewhere for steak while on vacation & decided to try Thorny's. My husband and I both ordered ribeyes which were huge & good. The bread was delicious, the salads were good, the $3.50 margaritas were great! We had a TV on our table which was great for the kids. The kids meals came on a frisbee they got to keep, plus an ice cream cup. My mom ordered ribs which were great also. This is a great place for families - not only because of the TVs, but there is a kids' play area with games, a slide, toys, and a TV with a movie playing. We will definitely return! Our waitress Michelle was great too. Get the free fried pickle coupon out of the magazine down there - just don't burn your mouth on them like I did!

I ate here with my husband on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Our wait was about 5 minutes. My husband ordered ribs and I ordered the sirloin. The salad was brought out quickly. When we were done with the salad, the entrees were done. There were TVs at many of the tables, but not ours, which was fine. My husband said the ribs were great. The sirloin wasn't the most flavorful I've ever had, but it was still very good. Our total was about $40 with water and no desserts. This restaurant was similar to Outback Steakhouse. Overall, it was a good place to eat.

We have eaten there several times over the past 15 years and never were disappointed until they raised their prices but with everything else going up I guess it was only a matter of time. Anyone who has ever eaten at a middle to upscale restaurant has experienced the automatic gratuity on large parties. I feel that if you are too cheap to leave a decent tip stay home. Also, a well done steak is a travesty and regardless of preference, meat is rare medium or well done. The other choices are simply non-existent and for customers who can't decide. Therefore med-well is well done because obviously people don't like the pink inside. Now for the people who were upset their children were yelled at because they were trying to get a free meal and you are an assistant at a travel agency. Try spell check. I hope you are not in charge of reservations. People will complain regardless of service and quality but this restaurant was above the status quo for Myrtle Beach with quality and service. Try getting seated in the summer during peak hours. Thousands of people can't be wrong.

This was our first visit to Thorny's during vacation. It was by far the best restaurant we visited this trip. The atmosphere was great, we were seated immediately. Our waiter Derrick was very attentive and personable. We ordered a variety of things to include steak, wings and ribs. Everything was cooked perfectly to order. The baked sweet potatoes were gigantic! Salads were fresh and the wings were tasty. I thought the prices were very reasonable for a tourist town. I would highly recommend this restaurant, it's worth looking for it. Best wishes to our waiter Derrick who was leaving in 2 weeks to pursue his career.

We weren't expecting much. I promised a friend whose son works at Thorny's that we would stop by during our visit from Conn. We were pleasantly surprised. We were seated immediately, had a great waiter named Brian, who was attentive and provided excellent service. The steaks were delicious, as were the potatoes, salad and rolls. You really can't beat margaritas which cost $3.50 each. The bill for 2 people was only $60. We left a 25% tip and came out smiling. This place is a diamond in the rough.

We ate at Thorny's while at Myrtle Beach on 8-16-09 and I ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye and it was excellent. All of the people in our party enjoyed their food. We waited 10 min for table, waiter was excellent. I do have to agree that the gratuity is way to much, you are spending enough for the food and i dont think they should automaticaly add the extra charge. If you are a smart person you will leave a nice tip. Next time i got to Myrtle Beach I will be visiting again

We didn't know where to eat so we decided to drive down kings hwy and look for a restaurant that had a full parking lot and this was the place. I ordered prime rib and it was perfect, My husband got scallops al fredo and they were perfect. The salads were great, the bread is delicious, and the service was very good. The beer was reasonably priced and the onion loaf appetizer was GREAT. We will definitely go again.

We have been eating at Thorneys since the original restaurant was in MB and even drove to Conway when they moved over there. We have always loved the ribs! They rival any ribs on the beach. I know the Tadlocks care about their customers and quality of food. We ate there Saturday night and the ribs were mouth watering as usual.

Well after reading the other reviews, I have to say it doesn't seem to make much of a difference since this is still going on. My biggest complaint is that the restaurant charges an 18% tip for a party of 6 or more not 8 or more. (They said this is on the front of their menu) Our tip was over $20. There was 7 of us. No other place had done this so far. When I decided that was too much because the waitress had spilled water all over us and just brought us paper towels and threw them on the table not attempting to clean it up, she came after us in the parking lot. I told her that I wasn't paying it.(I paid 13 of it) She just looked at me. When I asked to talk to the manager, he sure wasn't any help. All he kept saying was how much they made per hour. I have and will let everyone know that this place is a rip off. The manager also told us that if we had requested to sit separately, they would have placed us on opposite sides of the restaurant because we were trying not to pay tip.

We ate at Thorny's in June 2009. Everything was fine except for the service. It took a while for her to come to our table. I started to think we didn't have a waitress. She didn't keep our drinks filled. We had to ask for rolls, she never brought them so we asked another person who brought some right away. When we got our bill she had already added 20% for a tip. We would not have left that much considering the service we got, but paid it because we were ready to get out of there. We will not go back!

This place is amazing, the food is great, servers are nice to ya, and it makes you feel at home at the family table. I ordered the Road Runner Chicken. It is the best chicken that I have ever tasted. My last visit was last week. We ended up eating there at least 3 times while we were camping at Myrtle Beach State Park. I highly reccomend it to anyone who comes to myrtle beach. After reading the reviews online about how wonderful Thorny's was my family and two other families decided to give it a try at the Bus 17 and 6th Avenue location. We were a party of 12 (7 adults) that spent over $200 on April 15, 2009. Complaints include none of the children ever received ice cream that came with their meals, steaks were overdone (waitress didn't care), had to ask for refills on drinks and bread, waitress was rude. The manager on duty (Sammie) was notified and also did not care. We were not given the ice cream or anything complimentary. It was one of the worst experiences at a restaruant and we will never be back.

We told hostess we were at the beach to get away from kids , she said there were no kids seated there. So we got to look at cartoon network and watch arcade machines. Beef tips looked bad and tasted worse. My wife almost threw up. This place should be run out of town.

We ate at thorny's last year and were exited about coming back, first I must say my dinner was very, very good. The house salad was great, I don't expect to get egg's, bacon bit's, and a lot of cheese in a house salad, really good. I got the bbq chicken and a baked potato which was also very good, for 12 buck's I think it should be good. On the other hand my wife's dinner was terrible exept for the chili bean's which were better than homeade. She ordered the 8oz. Sirlion medium well.when she got it it was done on the inside and black on the outside, got another, great on the outside so bloody on the inside her frie's did'nt stand a chance. She ended up not eating and took her chili bean's to the hotel.the waitress was really great she agreed it was not cooked right and brought her a glass to take home.so if you want a fifty fifty shot for something good to eat then this is your place..

The house salad is good and fresh. The ribs fall off of the bone and have great flavor. Taste them before putting BBQ sauce on them. They really don't need it. They are better than most places and cost the same, if not less. They are well worth the price and really a good deal. The rolls are fresh and wonderful with the honey butter. Very good service. Our server was Rochelle. She was very nice and brought plenty of refills without us asking. We go here every time we come to MB. It is awsome food at a decent price.

The kids' play area has all kinds of toys for little kids up to an arcade area for bigger kids and adults. There is also a web-cam, so you can tell your friends back home when you are going to be there and they can see you. Kind of neat. Our server was one of the best we've had.

We would even say as good if not better than outback. I got the Classic Sirloin and I would say it was really one of the most tender steaks I have ever had. Delicious. From the young black hostess and her chewing-gum-like-a-cow caucasian trainee who both looked at us like we were intruding to the waitress who couldnt be happier that we were leaving a minute after we were seated. I was seeking a good steak and potato dinner and I would suggest to someone seeking the same to get the hawaiian ribeye, however; it would have been nice if they offered the sirloin with this marinade. One thing I was upset about when I ordered my salad I asked if they had ceasar salad and was told yes, and when my bill came I was billed an extra 99 cents for opting for that dressing vs. their homemade ranch. Also, there is a coupon in one of the many coupon books that Myrtle Beach has to offer, my fiance and I took 4 of the coupon books in and he was looking for the coupon but we must have left the one book that the free fried pickel app. was in and he spoke with the server and they wouldnt honor the coupon even though we had all the other books and still knew of the coupon, for the price we paid for our dinner when we left they could have atleast thrown that in. Over all service was good, had to wait a while after my dinner was served to recieve the steak sauce so I would ask for that before the steak is brought out.

#1 - $30 steak was all fat. reported to Manager, Jack, and he was very rude and got in my sons face, followed them out the door and was still yelling at them. #2 - Drinks were never refilled. #3- Had to ask bus boy for bill and he went to the waitress and she gave it to him to bring back to them. #4-Two of them did not have anything but a hamburger size piece of meat to eat. They could not eat their Baked potatoe because they never got anything to drink! #5 - Jack would not give them a name or phone # to contact anyone about this situation. This took place Saturday, March 15, at 8pm. Just because they are young doesn't mean that they could not afford their food. They have $. I am very upset by the way my children were treated. I will pass this service on to everyone that I know that goes to Myrtle Beach. Oh, by the way, did I say that I am an Offfice Assistant with a Travel Agency!

My husband and I visited Thorny's for the first time on Sept. 18 and we truely enjoyed our dining experience. My husband had the Hawaiian Ribeye and it looked juicy and tender and he said it was delicious. I had the ribs and baked sweet potatoe. It was very good. The server was very attentive without being annoying and he knew what he was doing. It was not noisy in the restaurant probably because it was on a Tuesday night in Sept. I could do without the TV's though but my husband enjoyed it. We will certainly make Thorny's a regular place to dine each time we go to Mrytle Beach now.

Visited in Aug., '07 and weren't totally impressed with the restaurant. The food was just average and honestly the appetizer stands out more than the entree! We had the loaded fries as an appetizer and they were delicious. My rib dinner was just o.k. My husband had a steak which he said wasn't great. Kids had cheeseburgers and what do kids know about rating food--a cheeseburger is a cheeseburger to them! Go for the appetizers only! And about those TV's at the tables, I had mixed feelings. If I want to eat dinner and watch tv simultaneously, why not eat home? We make it a practice that dinner time is exclusively family time. No Gameboys, IPODS, etc. whether home or on vacation.

Overall the atmosphere was good and family friendly. We had a tough time finding parking in the small unorganized lot but by the time we found a spot our name was called. We ordered some appetizers such as the onion loaf which was very good. My family's meals were fine however, I ordered the "best on the beach" ribs and would have rather eaten the beach. They were cold and the sauce was dried on. They just weren't appealing, especially when advertised as best on the beach. I would return to this restaurant but just order something different.

This was our first dining experience at Thornys. We thought the food was lower quality. My wife's flounder tasted like frozen fish sticks. The 'award winning' ribs reminded me of every other bar b que with sauce from a 5 gallon container smoothered over it. I told my wife while I was eating the ribs that if this was the winner, I'd hate to try the losers. I didn't eat half of my Gulf shrimp. Perhaps they should obtain their shrimp from the Atlantic; this might make them more palatable. Most of the food was served luke warm. Our daughter had the chicken fingers and fries and she enjoyed it but, like many kids, she's not a finicky eater. The food wasn't horrible but it's nothing we'd want to try again with all the other fine restaurants in the area. On a good note, the waitress was very friendly and helpful.

We, the 7 of us but 2 separate checks, had dinner at Thorny's on 8/26/07. The service was the worst we had the entire week we spent at Myrtle Beach. We were not served our rolls until midway through our dinner, the excuse was we had numerous guests from a tour bus. There weren't any buses in the parking lot. I never received my appetizer, the waitress never once asked if we needed refills on our drinks. We had our 18 month old with us, the waitress rudely asked, 'what is she going to eat.' To top it all off, the was a 15 percent gratuity auotmatically added to our check. The service was TERRIBLE. Food was very good however. When we complained to the manager, the response was I'm sorry!!

This place was excellent! Everything was great. My husband and I were VERY impressed. The food was great, and it was at the right price. They had a play area, so our 3 year old could play. TV's right at the table. Our waitress was the best, she was very proper and had everything right to us. The time to get our food was probably less that 20 minutes. We just loved it, the steak was great, and well as the chicken fingers and their drinks are excellent ( strawberry daquiri ) YUMMY!!! This place it great, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

We always go to Thorny's when we are in MB..During the week of July 4 th a family of 6 walked right in and sat down!! The only thing I was slightly disappointed in was the serivce, never had bad service before. It wasn't bad but slow. I had ordered a spicy dish, the waitress was slow with drink re-fills. The food is always delicious!! The slow serivce was the only time in all the times that we have gone there, so we will definitelty be back!!!

First time at this restaurant. Have been enjoying restaurants on the Strand for twenty years. The noise level is total unacceptable. Numerous tv's and various volume levels is not a condition to produce an enjoying dinning experience. Why if there are tv's at each table must there be large tv's positioned around the bar. Is this a sports bar or an imitation upscale restaurant? I understand the drive to have a smoke free atmosphere while eating, but no seems to address the assault on the noise level which patrons have to endure when dinning with out of town friends. Doesn't make for the reason to dine--good food, good conversation and pleasant experience. Food was plentiful, service was adequate; would not recommend during the busy summer season.

My wife and I ate at Thorny’s on our summer vacation to Myrtle Beach. It was a large restaurant. It took us longer than usual to be seated as compared to similar places in the area. There are lots of TVs. The noise level was not too bad. Our waitress did an average job. I had a ribeye and my wife had smothered chicken. Our meals were acceptable.

Read the reviews saw the signs, decided to eat here. Arrived early and was seated in a corner booth where you had to look straight up to a corner pole ansd see the TV. Lots of tables and booths open with great views and TV's in the booth. I guess you have to be someone special to get a view of the TV.

Food was good, my wife had the sirloin and I had the ribeye, we both had baked sweet potatoes and salads. Salad was a little skimpy, the yeast rolls were cold, but the steak and the sweet potatoes were great. I may try this restaurant again. Maybe the hostess just didn't like our looks, and gave us the worst seat in the house.

The hostess was very friendly & seated us immediately which was great. We were a party of 10 (3 families where 1 family included 2 children) & the gratuity was 18% which is not a problem if the service is good. The waitress acted like she was doing us a favor by even helping us. We were not a problem group, no special orders, etc, just straight from the menu. Apparently when the tip is added in the waitress/waiter staff feel they do not have to be nice which is why we did not return. Our food was very good and tasty but the service stunk. We liked the "blooming onion" (from the past) better compared to the onion loaf. If the onions in the onion loaf were shredded/ stringed a littled more they may be more tasty. We enjoyed the children play area & the prices were not bad for a good steak place. Our table had no TV and we had to either watch one on a nearby table or tables to the side of us or lean back, turn around or stretch to see a TV. As it was a rather loud atmosphere we had trouble hearing people at our own table. Due to the level of sound/noise one could easily get a headache there.

We went to Thorny's on South Kings Highway on a Wednesday early evening with a group of 7; wait time wasn't too bad, only about 10 minutes.

Service had alot to be desired, I don't think our waitress knew how to smile.

Salads and appetizers came fairly quickly and were OK. Meals were another matter; we waited and waited and waited, and to top it off not one time did the waitress return to refill drinks; finally the manager came over for refill orders and to help the waitress serve the food when it was finally ready. They weren't that busy but the manager seemed to be running around like a chicken with his head cut off not knowing what to do next but trying to do everything.

Can't complain about the noise, was the type of place you would see a bunch of kids running around but it didn't help that they sat us at a table in the middle of all the mayhem.

Food was mediocore. I had the ribs and shrimp - ribs had very little flavor and shrimp were cold - but to try to track someone down to fix it.........one of the parties had fettucini alfredo and the waitress looked at her like she had 2 heads when she asked for no chicken and that came COLD - they obviously microwaved it and never even re-stirred it so the top was hot but not the rest. Would I got back? I might just to give them another try, that's if we get back to MB.

The food was great and so was the service. It was a bit pricey, but then again, if you want a great steak.... pay the price. The atomosphere was awesome. TV's in each booth, and play area for the little ones. How great is that... even though I don't have little kids anymore. We will return...

We were compelled to write this review, as we had one of the best meals we have ever had in Myrtle Beach. The prime rib was so tender and tasty and the portion was huge! Everything about the meal was perfect, the soup and chile we ordered was tasty and served piping hot. We just can't say enough about the restaurant. We will definitely be eating there again and taking our friends. If you want a good quality, and great tasting meal, be sure to eat at Thorny's!!

This was the first sitdown restaurant we ate at when we moved here. I won't go back. The service was fine, nothing spectacular and the atmosphere was ok.

My son did love the game room, which kept him entertained while waiting for meal.

The big draw back (and the main reason for going) is the food, which I thought to be extremely small portions and overpriced.

They lure you in with the specials, but then they are very simple meals, then were out of some items.

The meals we did get were nothing more than I could have thrown on my grill at home and presentation of the food was poor. No flavor or taste.

So if you are interested in atmosphere, you can go, but I wasn't impressed at all.
