My family and I ate here one evening while staying in Cherry Grove. We kept driving by and it was always busy and thought we would stop one evening. Great meal. I got the Dixie Chicken (cheese melted over chicken breast) - DELICIOUS. My cousin got the country fried steak and said it was the best she ever had. Great service too. So good that we stopped for breakfast while leaving town and the biscuits and gravy were really good too.

NEVER again!!! I called in today to place a to-go order. I got put on hold for 5 minutes the first time by "Phil". Then I called back a second time and got put on hold for another 5 minutest by a woman who did not give her name. I then called a third time and when I stated that I had already been on hold twice for over 5 minutes a piece "Nikki" responded with "Geez". So I'm told give them 10 minutes. I go to pick up my food & no one is at the counter. So I ring the bell for service, still no one. I ring the bell again, still no one. Finally a server noticed that I was standing there & went to alert someone else. I pay my bill & take my food. My food was wrong. I ordered a Chicken Salad Salad. When I have previously ordered that dish it has had cucumber & tomatoes. Neither of those items made an appearance today. I work just minutes from here & my company orders pretty regularly. Well you can 100% count my orders out from now on. I seriously don't know how they're still in business after the non-service I received today!

We went to The Shack as recommended by my sister-in-law and I love her for it. The were busy but my wife and our friends were seated before I finished holding the door open for some folks leaving. Food - I had the roast with rice and gravy - cabbage cassarole and tea. All was fantastic. Dont get me wrong, I cant give them the same grade I would my wifes cooking but it was a mighty close second. The roast was fork tender with only a hint of fat. The gravy had an excellent flavor. Atmosphere was great.

Hope their cooks & kitchen manager will get back to being aware of washing their hands, removing items that have stayed on their stove burners TOO LONG TO SERVE, & keep the propane fumes away from serving dishes! Our last meal there was $30,000 because we had to go to the hospital immediately with 2 of us...S-I-C-K!!!

We discovered The Shack on our visit this year. It was a real find. The food was home cooked, comfort food. I loved the fried chicken and cabbage casserole. The waitresses are very friendly and the service was quick even though it was busy when we went. The price is hard to beat. We have told friends and will definitely be back on our next visit.

We have been going to NMB for years now and we always, maybe 5 years in a row went to The BS upon leaving to come home to Pa. I was very sorry to hear about Miss Boot's passing. The food was decent but the wait service was the worst I ever encountered. We are average people and smile and am polite as we were reared by our parents. Now, I do not know her name and don't care to know her but she was one of the most rude and evil natured person I have meet in a long time. I am sure she was instructed to cater to locals but surely to God not to totally ignore them for over an hour. She was so blantantly rude and would walk by our table and never stop to even take our order. Last time we were there was a few years back and we stayed deliberatly just to see how long she was planing on ignoring us. We were in that place over two hours from the time we walked in and ate and paid the bill to Miss Boots. She made me laugh, I never said a word but she informed me that they were very busy place and more food is ordered for takeout then they serve. We tipped our customary 20% and left and never returned. I am sure I made there day. RIP Miss Boots.

Went with 8 women - they reserved us a table. The lunch specials are incredible. I had fried porkchop, tomato casserole, and mac & cheese, with roll and drink for $7.19. Incredible value. Although I live in Murrells Inlet with lots of good restaurants, we have nothing comparable. I'm looking forward to taking some friends there soon. I also bought one of their nice & reasonable T-shirts. This place is not to be missed. Want to try breakfast too.

I used to work at the Biscuit Shack years ago and loved it there.I worked with good hard working people that went out of their way to give great service, great food and reasonable prices. I recently went back to Cherry Grove and decide d to go see what was up at "the Shack"( think they should change the name cuz its definately NOT up to biscuit shack standards.Just a play on the name to get people to think they are getting what they actually came for!) The waitstaff were NOT friendly and the food was NOT good. Its too bad the new owners decided the business that Miss Boots built was not good for them, because it sure isnt the place the local people used to love to come to. I will NEVER eat there again.Hated it!

Went by and visited The Shack again this week and it was awesome. The food is always good, great place to get good Southern home cooked food and fresh seafood. I had the Shack Shrimp salad which was really good. My husband had the roast beef with lima beans and squash casserole and oreo pie. So excited that they are now open for dinner! Service is good, atmosphere is great, such an improvement over the old Biscuit Shack. Check it out if you haven't been yet!

My name is Ashley. I worked as a server at the biscuit shack for over 10 years. As a matter of fact i grew up in that lil ol shack.Boots was like a mother to me and the girls and also the guys in the kitchen. Boots was definatly a hard stern boss and always meant business. She always took care of her employees and we we re all like a family. R.I.P Boots you are truley missed. I'm grateful that i had the opportunity to be part of the biscuit shack family . So those of you who think we(the waitress of the shack)show favoritizem to our locals.Well yeah maybe we do a little...maybe bc their like family to us and they keep food on our tables all year long.We try to make it feel like your at home when you eat here so thats why we call everyone by their names. Yes the smoking was an issue but hey boots was a smoker and shes the owner so she makes the rules. One thing Ill never forget about boots was she was a very well known woman in North Myrtle Beach. She took care of all the Policeman,ER, anyone in city uniform anytime and loved animals sometimes more than people. Thank You boots I will truely miss drinkin those Crown Royal and sprites with ya. R.I.P Boots Jordan we love you.

The Restaurant is not THe BIscuit Shack anymore. We have eaten there many times and it gets better and better. The owners go out of their way to accomodate everyone. I called and wanted Chicken and Dumpings and Todd was not fixing them on the day we were coming. She said come on I will fix what you want. We love the changes. It is a new place Boots died and will be missed but don't compare the two. Everything is made homemade. We love it and are so excited they are opening for dinner on weekends. Everyone is friendly and it is finally clean. I can not wait to go back!

This was my fourth and final visit to the new Shack! I knew after the third visit the food was not acceptabl. The beef stew was void of everything resembling beef stew over rice. When I pointed out to the waitress the two small pieces of beef, she replied "She whould get me more.} Today (August 25,2010) I gave them another try. The chicked was good. Although the waitress said the mashed potatoes were freshly cooked, my serving was covered up in gravy and the potatoes looked liked an old baked potato smashed. The custormer next to me, received fluffy white potaoes. The veggies were below par. I am hopful the manager will read these reviews and make adjustments. I am a local and would like to give the Shack another go. I will wait two weeks and eat there one more time. I will be surprised to received an email response.

My family and I have vactioned at Cherry Grove for 8 years now. We were sad to here about Ms. Boots... she was such a nice lady. We always ate breakfast at the Biscuit Shack at least 4 mornings during the week. Very resaonable prices and in our oppinion, the food was always fresh and hot! We had a chance to go down 2 weeks ago for a short stay before our weeks vacation in August. So we had to stop by the Biscuit Shack or now the "Shack" and things have changed!! What I will comment on is the breakfast.. which is why we always went there. We were one of 2 familys in there around 8:30.. Pancakes were cold.. sausage was cold.. scramble eggs were cold.. and the home fries must have been cooked around 5:00am.. The only thing that was warm was the grits my wife ordered.. I guess it is not to hard to keep a pot of grits warm. Prices have gone up... but what hasn't that you buy. We don't mind paying more however we do expect for the quality to at least be the same that made this establishment the reason why we kept coming back!! We were so disappointed in our experience!! In my life I have learned that things change and that is a part of life! I guess we will be changing too!!

R.I.P. Ms. Boots. I haven't been back since Ms. Boots passed away. New owners, new management, new policies (including being totally NON-smoking now), new menu, new decor, new hours, new name ("The Shack" instead of "Boots & John's Bisquit Shack," but still close enough to make people think it's the same)...I loved a place where opinions that were contrary to the "sheeple-like" opinions adhered to by most, were held in high regard. The restaurant welcomed smokers because Ms. Boots was a smoker and it was her restaurant - remember that SC's economy was built on tobacco! Non-smokers were welcome to eat on the porch or go elsewhere. Period. The restaurant served good meals at reasonable prices so that the "everyday Joe's and Jane's, the elderly, ill or "lonely" could always have a place to get food and feel at home. The locals loved it there because it was a place to be comfortable and to "visit" with each other. Visitors to the area were welcome and treated well, as long they didn't come in acting all pretentious and uppity. Ms. Boots would hand anyone their "butt" if they had a bad attitude...and it was her restaurant, so she could do that. Ms. Boots was the first to provide hot coffee and food for all of the people who serve us in law enforcement and emergency services...and she'd make sure that stray animals had food and comfort, too. She had the world's biggest heart, but she wouldn't put up with "mess" from anyone! If you didn't like the food and atmosphere at Boots & John's Bisquit Shack, then be sure and visit the "new" Shack. As for those of us who loved the "original" Shack...keep the memories sacred and maybe try the Little River Diner!

I worked with some outstanding people(Shannon and Emily) and miss them! I never heard a bad thing said about the food there til I started reading these reviews. I do not understand it at all. The food was very good and reasonably priced! I plan on going back someday.RIP Miss Boots!

We eat at the biscuit shack every time we're staying in N.Myrtle Beach, and have to say the standard of quality that this place has had in the past has gone down alot. The food is not as good as previously(but still OK), a manager needs to take a long hard look at the staff and shape them up or ship them out, and the overall cleanliness has been the biggest disappointment(toilet didnt flush, no soap, dirty towels). Enough with the ripping, the pancakes are good, along with the gravy, sausage patties good, but links are like store brand, nothing special. R.I.P. Boots!!

Take the time and read all of the entries in "the guest book" and remember her and all the times she greeted you with a smile, served us when nothing else was open due to storms, always took care of our law officers, military, rescue, city employees during all of the "bad weather, festivals, peak of the tourist season", and when ever there was a need she was the first to respond. NMB has lost a very special lady that can never be replaced!
a 25+ year fan of the one and only Boots & John Biscuit Shack

Nora C. Jordan "Boots"
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH | Nora C. "Boots" Jordan, 81, of North Myrtle Beach, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

Boots is survived by "special friends," Diane Buffkin Creel, Toni Sweeney, and John Stone; and numerous other friends and employees.

She was the owner/operator of The Biscuit Shack for over 30 years, and devoted much of her life to the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society because of her love for animals. Boots was a big supporter of Local, County and State Law Enforcement.

We went to the Biscuit Shack the other morning and I ordered an omelet, hash browns, and a biscuit. Well, I got the omelet and the hash browns and they were ok. Throughout the entire meal I never got my biscuit b/c they were supposedly out......how does the "biscuit" shack run out of biscuits? I kept seeing biscuits coming out to surrounding tables so when questioned the waitress told me that it was "company policy" that as a waitress she could not go into the kitchen and just get a plain biscuit at this point and bring to me. How dumb does that sound? She said that the cooks were incharge of the biscuits and right now they were busy so they didn't have extras available b/c they were all being served with other orders. Well, I ordered one! We asked to speak to the manager/owner. When she came to the table she gave us the same spill. At this point I was getting pretty aggravated and had also finished my food by this time. While she was at the table we said "we think you should change our bill then since we didn't get what we ordered" and she actually said these exact words to us "I don't think that is going to happen" as she walked away from us. I spoke my mind to her as she went into the kitchen.....very loud too I might add. Several other people left that had been seated at surrounding tables at this point.....thank goodness they didn't have to put up with such iggnorance as this. She actually sent the waitress out with a biscuit on a plate for me after that....which I didn't really even want at this point. It is just the principle of the matter. It is the BISCUIT shack for crying out loud. PLEASE DON'T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!

Anyone who likes this food has not had real southern cooking. (I've noticed a lot of the positive reviews are from northern reviewers.) The biscuits were gas station quality and burnt on the bottom. The steak biscuit was awful. From reading the other reviews, maybe we didn't get their best quality because we're tourists. The fact that they don't take credit cards (and worse yet don't bother to post a simple "cash only" sign) is very poor customer service. The smoking staff is also a real turn off. Bottom line--don't waste your money on this place.

My husband and I went to Myrtle Beach for our honeymoon. We drove through from Georgia which took us nine hours so we arrived at 5am we saw the biscuit shack on our way in and since I love breakfast food I really wanted to try it out. So we check into our condo and slept for a few hours then we drove around trying to decide what to eat after driving around we decided on the biscuit shack it was about noon and so I went in expecting some good southern breakfast after we sat ourself's it took the server 5 minutes to get to our table with the menu and then realize the biscuit shack doesn't serve breafast all day so we decided on the pork dinner I ordered first and my husband said I will have what she is having the server said "what if I say you can't have what she is having" then turned and walked away. Our food came out and you could not tell what in the world she brought the pork looked like breakfast sausage that had been carmalized...the fries and hushpuppies were def. cooked in the same grease that the fish was cooked in. The food was nasty. There were several servers eating at a table behind us and everyone of them gave us dirty looks not to mention every server was smoking. I think if you are going to have a restaurant your employee's should smoke outside. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This place is awesome in every aspect...... We rent a house on cherry grove every march and we start our day at the Biscuit Shack. The people, staff, the food and the atmosphere is just so down home and friendly. We cant say enough great things about boots and john. This is a definite have to stop and experience place to go when you are in the myrtle beach area..

This is a down-home restaurant where the locals eat. My husband and I ate here while on vacation last year and we made sure to do the same this year. This is a no-frills-pull-up-a-chair-homestyle-cookin' southern diner. Breakfast was first rate, grits & biscuits were exceptional. We stopped again for lunch on both visits and ya can't beat the deal: choose 1 meat (our choices were 2 pork chops, fried chicken or ham), and 3 sides (choose from-mashed potatoes, rice, garden peas, pinto beans, collard greens, peas, pears) rolls and tea include for a grand total (with tax) of $6.00. The servers passed the time of day, were pleasant and quick in serving. I'd recommend this diner to anyone who really enjoys diners. This isn't a high class place, but it's southern food at its best. We'll be back.

My boyfriend and I went to eat here recently... I have to say, this is one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. The gravy tasted like someone accidentally poured sugar in it instead of salt. It's gross just to think about it. Not to mention, the staff was as unfriendly as could be and wouldn't even smile at you! Would not waste my time if I were you!

This was our first visit to the Biscuit Shack for breakfast. We chose it because from the number of cars and the sign outside, that it must be popular and well established. We were welcomed when we entered. The prices, service, and food were great. My husband had grits, bacon and fried eggs. I had pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs. The pancakes were so light and fluffy, and it was nice to have the option of regular or sugar free pancake syrup. The server was very attentive and kept our coffee cups filled. The only problem we encountered was upon entering the restaurant, there was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. And being nonsmokers, we found this to be offensive.

I have always enjoyed Biscuit Shack, but recently Boots is extremely stingy with the air conditioning. It seems to always be at least 90 degrees in there, and the food quality has gone to h**l in a "biscuit basket". Service is wonderful, especially under these conditions! Advice: Worry about your food and customers now, and your power bill later!

This is the worst restaurant my husband and I have ever eaten in and we have lived in the south for a long time. The wait staff went out of their way to be rude and surly and the food was not something that was something worth returning for. I am not a blue blood and neither is my husband. We were appalled at the behavior of the wait staff not only to us, but to surrounding tables. Hint- IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE A TOURIST TRADE IN YOUR ESTABLISMENT DO NOT HAVE A BUSINESS IN A TOURIST AREA or at least train your staff how to be courteous to all people and not just the locals they seem to favor so very much. It was disgustingly blatant the behavior changes in the staff as they went from table to table and would change their surly nasty behavior to down home how ya doing what do ya need. I am surprised the owners haven't been slapped with a lawsuit for discrimination due to the behavior toward tourists..... I don't know what type of bad luck has been served up in life to the wait staff and the other employees that they need to be so outrageously rude and I am sorry if you have had bad luck, but it is absolutely no excuse for such rude nasty mean behavior toward your customers. It is simply VERY BAD MANNERS and there is no excuse for it when YOU CHOOSE to work in the public arena. If you hate tourists so so much, get some help in dealing with it or go somewhere else to work because what I saw in that restaurant was horrible. I work with sick people every day and if I treated one of your family the way you treated my family today, you would have my fanny on a platter and serve it to me.... Think of that the next time you are as nasty as you are to the "outsiders" that tip you or give you "business". Add the above to the overall sloppiness of the waitstaff, the dirt, the poor quaility of the sandwiches and the sides, believe me, we will not be back. And the owners should be ashamed of the behavior of their employees. As a former supervisor, I would have had an employee in my office in a millisecond if she had treated a patient like we were treated today. Shame on all you.... food service, and public service.... you don't treat people like they are dirt. ever. period.

This place was the best place in town for breakfast. I do not know why they changed food service providers but you certainly can tell that the quality of the food has gone down compared to what they used to serve.

I still eat there sometimes and would recommend it, but I know what they are capable of and it is just a disappointment to see a good place take a step backwards.

We ate at the Buscuit Shack for the very first time last year while on vacation. My family loved the buscuit breakfast sandwiches. We went back this year and were very disapoointed. Our family got seated in the non-smoking section of the restaurant which is a closed in porch with no air condtioning. The waitress was not very friendly. There was no milk for the kids. The sausage served looked like large pieces of italian sausage but it wasn't. The kids wouldn't touch it. The busciuts were good but cold as was the rest of the meal. The waitress had some of our food baskets under her arm as mentioned in another review. Either that was the same waitess or under arm carrying is a common practice. The icing on the cake so to speak was the coffee. It was not just terrible but scary. The coffee was very black. We used all of the small creamers to try to lighten it but it did not help. It just turned the top of the coffee beige and would not stay mixed into the coffee. It looked greasy. If you go the the Shack, go for the local atmosphere and buscuits, don't ask for non-smoking and don't order coffee.

DO NOT GO HERE! First when we walked in we were told that the non-smoking section is on the back porch. We had to walk through the smoking section (even the waiters were smoking) to get to our seat. The view from our seat was of the dumpsters...gross. My mom's food was burned and nothing was fresh. My biscuits and gravy were OK but not what I would have expected b/c of the name. Sometimes you can find good food at dives but this is not the place. We left feeling sick from not only the food but also the smoke we could smell in the non-smoking section. Also it is not very clean.

The entire resturant was smoking.....except for a few tables located in a hallway type area.....after the meal we attempted to pay and were advised that they did not accept credit cards. I had to leave my family waiting at the front of the resturant and drive to an atm to get cash. The resturant has no sign posted advising customers that credit cards are not accepted. When I was paying I asked to speak to the owner to inquire as to why it wasnt advertised that no cc accepted. The owner was arrogant and smug and condesending. She advised that she didnt have to post anything and that she didnt have a sign up advising they did accept cc's either. And also that she had been there for 30 years without credit cards. My family nor friends will never spend our hard earned money at this low class dirty smokey dump again. The owners attitude was an insult on top of an absolute horrible dining experience..

The food is great. Sausage and Cheese omlett is unbeatable. They have a grits bowl called TRASH. Try it, you will be surprised with how good it is. Seating can be an issue due to the popularity of the Biscuit Shack. When you come in stand in line and wait for a table to open. When you see it grab it dirty or not. Service does leave a lot to be desired, even for regulars. But the personalities of the waitresses usually makes up for the slowness.

We normally go to the Biscuit Shack a couple of times a year when we are on vacation. I am not terribly fond of the food or service there but by comparison to other breakfast places around the area it is one of the better ones. I do think that the servers need to wear more than a tank top, shorts, and flip flops while serving food. Is there no health code around the area??? If you go, and I will again, I would recommend the waffles. They taste homemade so that is a definate plus for the Biscuit Shack!

We just had breakfast at Biscuit Shack, which was as "home-town" as it gets. Had pancakes and eggs and grits and homemade biscuits, all of which were great. Met and talked with life-time locals while there; one a tobacco buyer and one a real estate developer who has watched, and been part of, this area's changes for decades. Very quaint locals' restaurant. We highly recommend it for its local flavor.
