After reading all the glowing reviews, especially considering that two were less than a week old, we just had to try it. Maybe it was the time of day, or just a bad day, but we didn't have a great experience. I think it was around 11:15 in the morning. First thing I heard when we walked in the door was "Incoming", followed by an incredulous "You're kidding". Way to make ya feel welcome!

The famous breakfast bar was not set up. I was really disappointed. I was told they hadn't had enough customers to make it worthwhile. Seems last week they did, according to the reviews.

So,we had to order a la carte. It was ok, but little things that make a huge difference to me (like real butter instead of that spread stuff) were lacking. They did, at least, have real cream for the coffee upon request.

There was a fruit bar set up, but the waitress didn't acknowledge it was there, nevermind that it was included with the items we ordered, according to the menu. We wandered over and took a look. It all seemed to have come out of some big can somewhere, save some fresh cantelope. We passed.

Server was pleasant enough, but all in all it was a $20 disappointment.

Before visiting MB, I read all the outstanding reviews on this site. I was so excited to take my husband and my adult son to Tar Baby's for breakfast. I told them what wonderful things I had read on the site. I'm sorry, but I was so disappointed. My son didn't think it was too bad, but my husband felt as I did. Lots of food but taste was missing.

Time to be seated was excellent because the food wasn't fit to eat. My family had always enjoyed the food and service in the past but no longer. We all had the buffet there was hardly any food, we had to wait on plates, the waitress came to our table only to bring our drink order the rest of the time I got our straws and napkins, my husband had to suck on ice to wash his food down. I expressed this to the cashier when he told me the bill was over $30.00, I was angry and let him know what a rip off at which point he knocked off $5.00. My son told me when we got out to the vehicle that TBaby's had new owners that's the reason it SUCKED. Well they'll never see me there again.

I have been eating at Tar Baby's for several years and always have recieved great food and service. I love the buffet they have pretty much everything you can think of pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, biscuits, sausage..... For those of you concerned with the name it is not meant in a derogatory way. Do a little research before criticizing and give the food a try. Don't forget we have the Carolina Tar Heel and there's a story behind that one also.

After vacationing in North Myrtle Beach for the last 5 years my family and I finally had the pleasure of visiting Tar Baby's. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful. The staff was great. The name is derived from the Brer Rabbit stories. All of the people who keep complaining about the name need to relax and stop crying. Read the story you morons and you'll understand its not a racial slur. Tar Baby's is great!

We have been coming to Cherry Grove for over 25 years and never until this summer tried Tar Baby's and what a treat we were in for. The choices were incredible and food tasted great. If you can't find something for breakfast at Tar Baby's you might as well stay home and eat mush. Tar Baby's is now a regular on our visits to Cherry Grove ,make it yours.

Worst experience ever at a restaurant - I order buffet while in-laws, wife and 4 year old ordered from menu. The waitress supposedly fell in the kitchen with our order. My in-lwas got their food promptly while my wife and daughter waited 30-40 minutes for their food. Manager never made attempt to push our order quicker. At end of meal, we asked for a discount and waitress gave us a look and manager reluctantly gave us 10%. My wife expressed her displeasure and manager told her that we should have ordered from buffet.

Will NEVER go back.

Heard about it and had to try - will never go back. My wife and 4 year old ordered from menu as did my in-laws while I had buffet. The waitress supposedly fell with the order - my in-laws food still came promptly but waited over 40 minutes for my child's 1 pancake. Waitess and manager were extremely rude when we asked about a little discount for inconvenience. The manger reluctantly gave small discount after he told my wife that we should have ordered buffet not from menu.

The Biscuit Shack was a much better and personable place.

Will never go to Tar Baby's again and would tell our freinds not to dine their either.

I dont really understand the concept of the restaurants name. I know we live in the racist south but this is just going overboard. What human being would choose a name as such. No i am not african american but I am a professional caucasian male who believes that morally this is wrong. If I have a problem with this I cant even imagine how the african american community feels about it. This is absurd and racist and anyone who eats at this so called restaurant can also be categorized as such.

A major part of our yearly trip to Cherry Grove . It has one added attraction - the variety of bargains in the gift shop. One year we bought a stereo component that was the same brand and series of our current home system . It is a unique dining and shopping experience . The food is fresh in the buffet as that ordered off the menu . We have routinely had to make room in the car's trunk for the items found after ordering the meal . This destination has become a tradition .

I love this place!! We ate at a lot of different places and this was my favorite by far. The food was great. My daughter loved the kids pancake with whip cream on it and shaped like mickey mouse. That was great for a sleepy toodler. The only problem I had was my drink was empty while I ate. Couldn't find the server anywhere. But, I would go back and plan to next month. Thanks.

I sought out this place after being here several years ago to find it again. I loved it the first time and, although the second trip was a bit below par from the first, still loved the food.

The service was the downside as we had to keep asking for drink refills. The food was great, except when they run out of biscuits, they substituted some kind of those 3 for a dollar can biscuits for the homemade. I can always tell those I bake out of the can at home.

The meat and gravies were great. It may sound like I'm dissing them, but I will go back again for the food. Wish they were open later.

EVERY time we go to the coast, we have to have breakfast at Tar Baby's at least once during the visit. While this might not sound like a very glowing recomendation, you have to understand we usually stay in Oak Island, NC or Carolina Beach, NC both of which are about 70-80 miles away. Very well worth the drive!

My husband and I have been coming to Myrtle Beach for the past 8 years now, with a lot of our family members. Everyone including us cant wait to eat there. We enjoy that wonderful buffet at Least twice the week we come. The food is fresh and fabulous! It is like a treat to come to Tar Baby's. We cant wait to come again. If your in the area, you should try it! You wont regret it!!

Tar Baby's is a four star treat for the palette! As a child my favorite restaurant was Sambo's, but it's been topped... by Tar Baby's!!

Great for families, great for golfers on their way to the course. The buffet is fresh and has great variety including county ham, pork chops, waffles, cheese grits, fruit, and the other obvious items (every breakfast meat you could imagine). Did I mention fresh? Most buffets are stale. Tar Baby's is always bringing out freshly made food. My family goes there every time we are in the area. Pancakes are outstanding (wife and kids like the chocolate chip). Very casual.

GREAT breakfast buffet. We were totally stuffed after making 2 trips to the breakfast bar. We had country ham, scrambled eggs, pork chops, bacon, cinnamon apples, biscuits, homemade pancakes, hash browns, french toast, and the best coffee to wash it all down ! All this for under $20 for both of us! We didn't even have room for the cereal bar and the fruit bar!
