The service was good. The food was not as good as I thought it would be. I had the sea food platter and it had scalops, shrimp, fried oysters, and a white fish. All seemed to have been frozen and did not taste even average. It was the quality of red lobster! the fried oysters were the only thing that was tasty. I also had an apatizer of steamed muscles and they found a way to make that taste sharp (i think there was wide added but it did not taste good)! I went based on other reviews here but I have to tell you unless something changed dramatically since then, I was not at all impressed and in fact was disappointed! .

My wife and I were introduced to the Sea Captains House about 7 years ago and have been going there ever since. We make about 6 or 7 trips a year to Myrtle beach and make it a point to get there everytime. From the hushpuppies to the She Crab Soup to the Crab Cakes, which in my opinion are the best in the area. I recommend the Sea Captains House to all my friends who come to the area, either with there family's or on golf trips. It's certainly the place to eat.

This was always my family's favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach. We certainly had an unfortunate eating experience this time. After an 80 minute wait, we were seated and ordered appetizers. Our waitress, that was best suited for a Diner, was in too big of a rush to take a drink order. She then brought us our salads and the children's dinners. She completely forgot about our appetizers. Our dineer was brought out 15 minutes later and was ice cold - still no appetizers. When we complained about the food's temperature it was returned to the kitchen. After 15 minutes of waiting and the children having finished their meals, we spoke with a manager.

We arrived for dinner around 5:30 on a Sunday evening. We were expecting to wait a while. We were told about an hour. So we got a couple of cocktails from the bar and headed out toward the beach and sat in one of the swings. It was one of the most relaxing restaurant waits we have ever experienced. The wait wasn't an hour as expected so that was nice. Our waiter was was extremely polite and helpful as well as the rest of the staff. Everyone is so friendly at this place! I orderded the she crab soup as my appetizer. If you order this, order the bowl and not the cup. If you order the cup you will be disappointed that you didn't order the bowl! This soup is one of the best things I have ever tasted! My husband ordered the appetizer of the day which was fried shrimp. It was delicious as well. For our entrees my husband ordered the seafood platter and I orderded the scallops. Both dishes were excellent and they have home made hush puppies that are never ending. We were too full for dessert. While we were on the beach Monday morning we both got a craving for more of the she crab soup so we decided to go there for lunch. No wait at all. This time we ordered the crab cakes to go with our soups and salad. The crab cakes practically melted in your mouth. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and when we go back to Myrlte Beach for vacation, we will definitely dine here again!

My family and I ate at the Sea Captains House on a Friday night. The wait was long. They quoted 1 hour and it took almost 1 hour and 40 minutes! Our party was a party of six (2 adults& 4 kids) and they seated parties of 10, 12, and 5 ahead of us. (yes, they came in AFTER us). When I questioned the manager, he was rude and not accomadating. Where is customer service these days? The food was overpriced and the portions were small. My husband ordered the shrimp for 21.00 and he got 12 shrimp and less fries than my son who ordered from the children's menu. My steak was okay. They did not bring a steak knife and by the time I got it, my steak was cold. I wish our experience had been better. We have been coming to Myrtle Beach for years and I have always wanted to eat there. We surely won't be returning thanks to the rude manager and lack of customer service. If you like seafood, visit Red Lobster-they'll treat you better and it is a lot cheaper ;)

We have eaten here many times -last year though we noticed that the quality of food and protion size had been comprimised. We found out later that the restaurant had indeed changed owners. I am sorry to say the changes they made were not positive . This one is off our list.

Let me begin by saying the over all experience was lowered by the waiter not the atmosphere. The wait was comparable to restaurants in our area back home and there was plenty of room to sit out on the patio while waiting, (with live music I might add). The atmosphere was set and we were even served drinks on the patio while waiting. We were seated and our waiter "Bob" came to take our orders and introduce himself. He never asked my son what he wanted to drink (an oversite I thought) so I asked my son what he wanted in fornt of Bob and my son said Mountain Dew, to which Bob replied we don't have that. So I asked my son which coke product he wanted and Bob walked away. My son said root beer and I had to raise my voice to get Bobs attention as he was walking away and asked "Do you have root beer!" Bob hollered back over his shoulder "Nope!" me and my wife were stunned. It was all down hill from there. I had to get up and go to the bar to get my own drinks and he never refilled any of my family's drinks. There were 5 of us. The food was good but it was hard to enjoy it because of Bobs attitude. The bill came and it was $112. and change. I told my wife I'm giving him $120 even for a tip. When he came back he took the money and brought back change, my wife told him to keep the rest and get this... he stuck up his hand at it and shook his head no. He walked away and as he ascended the stairs he looked over his glasses at me as he entered the kitchen. Well Bob (this is for you) I always tip at least 15% unless your a bad waiter or waitress. You could have been friendlier and if you were having a bad day then take some classes to help you cope in your job that deals with the public. Even my children that usually pay no attention to anything seen how rude you were. Yes, we told the hostess that the service was poor on our way out. She just wanted to know where we were seated because we wouldn't tell her your name. the hostess may not have done anything, but I like to write. So if your reading this review I hope you have a better waiter than we did. Beware of Bob.

My family and I dined at the Sea Captains house on our last day of our vacation to Myrtle Beach. We had a late flight and wanted to kill time at a Restaurant with a great view of the ocean. The food was great, our server was wonderful and the prices were very reasonable! We got there at like 1:40pm not knowing the place closed at 2, until dinner and were still treated very nicely! I am a server myself and know that it must have been frustrating having such late guest. I would defiantly recommend this Restaurant to anyone! It is like a hidden gem on ocean drive. Most of the restaurants are hidden in the the resorts along the strip or are across the street from the ocean, so this is a great little place nestled up by the sea!

I truly don't understand what all the fuss is about! Let me start by saying that my family and I are originally from New England and we know good seafood! This restaurant was down right awful! We arrived at 4:45 for an early dinner and didn't get seated until 5:20. While we waited, I asked the hostess for a menu to look at and I was denied! The young girl stated "oh no we don't have enough menus to hand out". This is the most ridiculous statement I have heard. I've been in tons of restaurants and I've never been denied a menu! This was a first and I believe it's because they don't want you to see the high cost of the meals! We ordered the crab cakes, shrimp creole and fried shrimp children's meal. The crab cakes were tasteless and flat as pancakes! The shrimp creole was over cooked and the children's shrimp was dry and tasteless. May I also mention the fresh vegetables were hard and not edible. We paid $21 a plate for really bad seafood and poor presentation! Please ignore the good reviews. If you like good seafood, stay away from this place!

What can I say but WOW! We have been traveling witha group to Myrtle Beach for 5 years now and have never missed a having dinner at least twice the week we stay. The Sea Captain has by far the most outstanding food and service in the area. Delicious hushpuppies-SHE-CRAB soup (YUM) and the frshest seafood in town. Thank you for making our trip more pleasurable each time.

Our annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach each May, for the last three years has brought us to the Sea Captain's House for our first night's dinner. We also receive breakfast there each morning through our package with the Caribbean.

I have yet to have a bad meal, their filet is very good; either plain, or "Neptune" (topped w/ shrimp, crab meat, and bearnaise sauce.) Last year I overheard a guy exclaim as he was departing, "Get the scallops, their great!" I plan on doing just that this year.

As some others have said in their reviews, the wait is usually long, but I've found that to be the case at the finer restaurants. Shoot, Margaritiville can be upwards of 2 hours! and it doesn't get rave reviews, trust me, the wait will be worth it. The waiting area inside is small, so I suggest that you step out back, and enjoy the sound of the ocean waves rolling in, there's no better waiting area on the Grand Strand.

My husband and I dined at the Sea Captain's House and although the wait for a table was about an hour, it was well worth the wait. We both had the sea scallops and they were out of this world. I always conducted luncheon meetings at this restaurant because of the impeccable service and simple beauty of this restaurant. The atmosphere is welcoming but with an air of distinction. My clients always raved about the place and it always reminded me of the restaurants that I would go to as a child in Cape Cod, MA., and on the CT shoreline. Any place that has impeccable service, a new england feel with the ocean as your direct view will always stay forever embedded in my thoughts. I truly miss this restaurant and I hope to visit it again one day. Audra Coart

I am alarmed at what used to be a family-type place to dine. They have two general managers now, who lack charm. For a small party seating for a baby shower--we where told one thing from ScottGM and Kip,GM Kip tell us how swell he is at his job and will continue to remain at the heilm and how much he knows. Then this other GM tells how much he knows. It was like a popularity contest. Then the servrer told us to go dine at Merchants where he works at nite and to take a cruise on his boat. It was like one of those timeshare seminars. Left not really want to return.

I happen to own some properties in MB and operate a tour company to which for numerous years many arranagements to dine at Sea Captians have occurred. I have had private parties as well as large tours through my tour company come in. This would include Breakfeast, Lunch or Dinner. I put alot of pride in what is thought to be a private establishment (NOT A FRANCHISED or CORPORATE ENITY). All this has changed. I witnessed somehting never seen before in all my years of being involved in the hospilatity/resturant business. After Sunday church, where I saw the owner of Sea Captians, who also owns numerous other resorts and golf courses in the hundred of millions of dollars, act like the devil He cursed an employee out and fire them. All in front of my family. My table was in the hall adjacement to the hallway where they stood. SOOOO MUCH FOR THE LORDS WORD---IT COMES DOWN TO MONEY. I was saddened to see this. I know David, but now I know the true David. After leaving the resturant--I cam accross the individual crying and sobbing in the parking lot. A new Corporate structure has taken form. This new manager, verbally abused at least one employee a day to resign or to come to tears. Earily that day and day befor three employees got rendered to tears. This one invidual approached the owner and informed how this new corporate manager is abusing people. The owner said "dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out", "changes are being made". A new Corporate Manager has verbally and creating an atmosphere that abused these employees Some no longer there have been working for the company for 32 years, 18 years, 8 and such. I went back in to speak w/ david but, the said the owner was not present. I WILL NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ANY OF THESE COMPANIES AGAIN. My in-laws where told that they need to sit where they as assisgned b/c they are on a rotation by this new manager that previous morning. SOOO long Sea Captians....bring in the more business and loose your foundation of the locals and old timers.......the atmosphere and people there is what make us come back.. the food has always been okay.

We were in Myrtle Beach for four days and ate there the last two days. I wish we knew about it sooner! The She Crab Soup was amazing, and we loved the hush puppies. For dinner we had the scallops and seafood platter. The salad was fresh and very tasty. Our server, Jackie, was very pleasant and friendly. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone we know visiting the area, and we will return the next time we are in M.B.

I used to work at the Sea Captain's House. I always ate before my shift if thats says anything. I had a date there as well, and yes in the summer seasons the wait is high, but thats only because every one who knows about us knows its great. Occasionally you'll have your typical run-ins with a slip-up or an overly long wait, but thats to be expected with 700+ a night in the summer. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone one a romantic date or anniversary, but also to just anyone who likes great steaks, chicken, fresh seafood and wonderful hush puppies.

I had seen all the ads for this restaurant and it was recommended by staff at the hotel, so we decided to give it a try. It was my first and last trip. The food was OK and the wait was not that long since it was off season, but it is way overpriced for the amount of food and it was just average. I've eaten at better seafood restaurants at home. The view is nice but I can see that from the balcony of my hotel.

Dinner at The Sea Captain's House has been a tradition for me when in Myrtle Beach for a number of years. From the husbpuppies, to the best She Crab Soup ever made, to the freshest seafood one can imagine -- you cannot go wrong here! The staff is friendly and warm, the fabulous food is consistently top notch and the atmosphere along with the ocean view is unbeatable. I grew up on the coast of Florida and am very particular about my seafood. I strongly encourage you to try this restaurant. I am certain you will be convinced it is the best seafood you've ever had!

Well, lets see. after reading the reviews I was okay with the wait, so I did. I ordered the She crab and the Seafood platter. the waitress (Jacquiline) had no personality at all and she messed up the order. The soup would have been better with some crab in it but it was great as far as warm cream goes. The entree was just bland, and I do mean no flavor at all. No salt no butter no browning just bland. Best i can figure the favorable reviews must have been written by people that are used to eating at "Old Country Buffet". if I had to use one word to describe this place I would have to say... "Don't".

My wife and I enjoy the ambiance of this restaurant, however our last visit was not a good one. We were with a group, and went on a Sunday night. The group amounted to 12 people. Caution they do not take reservations. We waited almost and hour and a half. There were tables available for large groups but they did not anticipate being busy that night and would not seat us in one of the rooms. The manager was unsympathetic to our plight and we waited and waited. Finally they sat us at three seperate tables adjacent to one another. If they were going to do that they should have let us know early on and asked if that were acceptable. After an hour and a half wait this is the option we were presented. The service is always good here but the fish items are over priced especially the sea food platter. Their hush puppies are very good however and you cannot beat the ambiance. I would recomment this as a breakfast lunch place but there are better options for dinner as the wait usually is over an hour and many of the entrees are overpriced. I have eaten there at least 10 times in the last 4 years and this was my worst experience. The last time my wife and I were in Myrtle Beach we opted for something else in the neighborhood. Too bad since the place has been on the beach at this location since the 1920's.

Okay, we must have went to this horrible place on the wrong night. The waitress was new (should of had help) she messed up me and my husbands orders. My husband was looking for good seafood and his scallops were very salty and greasy. His side of rice was dry and crunchy. I asked for my shrimp broiled and they came out fried. Really bad and will NEVER go to or recommend this place to anyone. Very disappointed. Spent $60.00 plus bucks on our anniversary only to be upset and frustrated. Do not go here.

My husband, two boys & I have been going to the Sea Captains House for the past 6 years. It is a "must do" on our annual vacation to MB. My youngest son who is a very picky eater loves it as do my husband, older son and myself. The food is great and the view of the ocean is INCREDIBLE. We always take our "family vacation" photo sitting on the rocks behind SCH. We will be returning this weekend on vacation and can't wait to go there for dinner.

I have been going to Myrtle Beach for 30+ yrs and this past July 4 th week was my first time eating at SCH..It was AWESOME...I got the flounder and it flowed over the plate..There was a thunderstorm that came up and ran us out of the swing...Service started off slow but then he was wonderful. We got a chef''s special appetizer, it was fried green tomatoes and crab meat, it was out of this world!!

Always a great place to eat. My husband and I go here every year. You have to get a daily special there. They are FANTASTIC!! Get there by 4:30 to put your name in, if you want to eat by 5:30- 6:00. Extremly busy place. But well worth it. Great view of the ocean.

I've been going since I was a baby with my parents. It's great if you don't have to wait, so arrive early, put your name on the list and get a vibrator... Go out on the beach and walk around or something to by the time and it shouldn't be too bad. Get the "surf and turf" it's pretty phenominal, but the portions as mentioned by others could be bigger. Instead of building a insignificant bar on the beach side, they definitely should have expanded the restaurant as a whole and put in some noise barriers. What were they thinking?! I went alone and couldn't even hear the ocean (kidding), but it is very compact. Plan on raising your voice significantly to communicate accross the table. You should go once everytime you visit Myrtle Beach, I do. Bring your wallet and a mild appetite.

We are frequent visitors to Sea Captain's House, dining there at least a dozen times a year when we are in MB. In all our visits, we have never had bad service, but sometimes it's better than others. Now when we go, we request seating at our favorite server's station. We find the food excellent, the service top-notch, and the prices in line with other good restaurants. Contrary to some other opinions expressed here, one of the things we especially like is the fact that portions served are sized just right for our appetites. So many places heap so much on the plate that it's impossible to eat it all.

We first visited SCH about 1970, and loved it. Over the years we have continued to visit and enjoy their seafood. However, the careful preparation of the food has been declining, although their business has not, based upon the long lines. Once, with Gullyfield's, they served the best seafood on the Grand Strand, but they have slipped to just a good seafood house, and their raised prices have lessened their value. Still a decent family seafood restaurant, just no longer one of the best.

Of all the places we ate on our very first trip to MB, this was by far the best. We had a little bit of wait, but the place is so charming, that we didn't mind. The service was excellant and the food was great. I had the fresh tuna steak, it was grilled medium as requested and was exceptionally good. Others ordered filet and lobster. All said their meals were delicious. For the atmosphere, service and great food, we didn't mind the price. We also split a piece of key lime pie...yumm. Will definately go back on our next visit.

I have eaten here several times in the past and found the food and service good. This time I noticed that while we were waiting, several and I mean several couples and parties were taken in ahead of us. The food quality was average, but, the price is too high for the portion size and quality. Don't buy the appetizers, they are only teasers very small amount and large price. The waitress did a great job and should be recommended to help overcome the other shortcomings. I may give it one more try before I mark this place off.

Personally, I think the unique atmosphere of this restaurant is as responsible for its success as the food. It is a charming building, and has been in Myrtle Beach for a long time. It is in an old house. The view of the beach is lovely, and it feels intimate and cozy. The food is good, but not what I would call gormet quality. It is a cut above what you usually get at many "greasy-spoon" type seafood places. You can have a drink with dinner too, which is nice. The prices are a little high for what you get, but this is a nice enough "special date" or anniversary-type place. The wait to get in can be quite intimidating at the height of the season.

We ate here on our first night. The wait time was easy because of the lovely oceanfront scenery and music in the outdoor bar area. Our food was very good but a little pricey. The food is great and the prices are not any higher than other restaurants in the area. It is usually very busy in the evening so arrive early. The seating area in the back is great. After hearing about this restaurant we decided we would try it this year. We arrived early and were seated in a fair amount of time for a party of 12. Our service was just not that good, I guess our waiter had a bad day. Several people in our party wanted lobster which they were out of????. The PRICE for their lobster was very high so maybe it was good they were out. Overall it wasn't terrible but overpriced for the portions and very bland flavor for a pricey meal. The childrens menu was good along with the prices. Again not bad but thought it would be better.

Can't say enough about the Sea Captains House!! Love it, Love it, Love it!!

Since 8 yrs ago, my 1st visit, we always go here. We come to Myrtle Beach, with my family and everyone we take raves. The food is excellent no matter what is ordered and the service is second to none. I'm just really sad because they do not take reservations and this Sept I'm getting married and there will be 17 of us. I think too large of a group to wait :) Don't get me wrong! We wait for 6 of us all the time. 17 is alittle different! If you want a meal to remember forever, you must go atleast once when your in town. I bet you can't go just once though!

This used to be my favorite Myrtle Beach restaurant. The atmosphere was so local and nostalgic of the past at the beach. Since they opened up that bar in the back yard and put seating in the enclosed porch on the lower level in the back, the atmosphere, service, and food has suffered. Yes, the bar gives the patrons something to do while waiting to be seated, but it is not worth the loss of atmosphere. We went there a couple of times a year for 20+ years and will NOT go back. We were obviously not locals and as such, were treated like a 5th wheel.

The atmosphere was excellent to say the least. We did not spend anymore on dinner at the Sea Captains House than any of the other places we dined at during our vacation at Myrtle Beach. I highly recommend trying this at least one time. You should not be disapointed. Our only complaint was from my husband who stated that the chairs were a little hard. I did not notice because the food and service was so great!

I visited the Sea Captains house for lunch 2X during my 4 day stay in Myrtle Beach. I thought the ambiance was quite lovely with the different dining rooms and patio. Service was prompt, friendly and top-notch, had a few really enjoyable conversations with my servers. The food was predictable, but tasted great, was cooked well, and there was plenty of it. Whoever thinks this restaurant is expensive has obviously never been to Key West because I found it to be ridiculously low priced. Fairly decent wine list. If you are looking for fine dining this is not the place. if you are looking for an Arthur Treachers this is also not the place. This is a nice, moderately priced enjoyable restaurant to have a decent meal in comfortable surroundings. Kudos to the staff.

For an entree, I had the flounder stuff with crab. It simply did not stand out...very bland. My server was wonderful, attentive and very professional but the food lacked compared to the cost of the meal. I most likely will not go back again.

We finally tried this restaurant 2 years ago and it was love at first bite.

This past year we visited 2 times during the week we were there. The mahi-mahi is good (I have it each time).

Waitress has always been attentive.

I tried a ginger lime sauce this past year with the mahi at the recommendation of the waitress. I asked for it on the side in case I did not like it as I do not have a palate for much ginger. The sauce was wonderful (I'm glad I took her advice).

We will continue to go back each year.

My husband is a chef - we took our family here no less than 3 times while in Myrtle Beach for a week's vaction. We came for dinner twice, and breakfast once. Delicious everything!!!! I adored the blackened scallops over cheddar grits and the she-crab soup. Our servers were all prompt and delightful and kind to our three yr old daughter. Yes, the outdoor bartender was slow, but the wait for a table felt surprisingly short considering the crowd. Plus, how can you complain about the wait when you are gazing out at the beautiful blue ocean? A creative chef, a beautiful setting, a top-notch restaurant - highly recommended!!

I think this place was highly overrated. The waiting area and bar are not sufficient. It took 30 minutes to get a drink because they only have one bartender. For the price you pay for the food you would expect cloth on the tables, not plastic.

I've never had a bad meal here and I've been eating here since the 70's. We always eat at Sea Captians at least twice during our vaction. This is Myrtle Beach seafood at its best. It always makes me wish we were staying a the Jamacian next door so I could do breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do not miss this one.

How can you compare this place to red lobster! I love this place. The food is very good and compared to other seafood restaurants the price is reasonable. The view of the ocean is so beautiful as you eat. The only thing I would change is the wait time, but that just tells you how good it is. They open at 5pm and we try to be there at that time.Even the wait is enjoyable. This is the one special restaurant we visit each year when we come to the beach.

We liked this place well enough for dinner to go back a second time in the same week. But there are disadvantages. The bar service on the patio, which is all that is available while you wait for a table, is extremely limited: crummy selection of wines, limited beer selection, etc. Sounds petty, but our wait was an hour the first time, so decent bar choices are important. The food was great, especially the scallops. While I've read the comments that said there are better places in terms of value (we considered this to be only moderately expensive, not really expensive,) those other places don't have a site right on the beach with a grassy area for waiting and/or kicking off your shoes. The ambience while you wait is actually better than the ambience while you are eating!

We had dinner, the food was ok but the price was too high for the quality, There are better options in the area. Atmosphere was very good and servers were friendly and quick.

Every time we go to Myrtle Beach we have breakfast here. Very good food and coupled with the ocean view make this a must try. Haven't tried any other meal besides breakfast but plan to on our next trip.

On one web site this restaurant was Rated No. 1 and I don't know why. I could get the same meal at Red Lobster for a lot less money. It is in a house and that is cute but I don't see what's so special about the food.
