Ate here twice within 3 days. Our son requested we eat there for our last night out at the beach. Fun atmosphere. We arrived around 6:30. Seated within 10 minutes. Stephanie was our waitress both trips, she does a great job. This will be a required stop every trip to Myrtle Beach! A must try - best burgers ever! ref: 26877

This was by far the best burger and fried zuchini I have ever had. The onion rings are huge and plenty full. I love love loved the guacamole ranch sauce too. Highly recommended. ref: 25648

Ate here on the first day of our week at Myrtle Beach. Atmosphere was fun and lively. Service wasn't fast, but not too slow either. Great oceanside patio dining (if the seagulls don't bother you). Food was very reasonably priced and delicious!! I had fried clam strips with fries (fresh-cut) and cole slaw. My partner had the chicken salad pita. Will definately go back to River City! BTW, if you prefer Equal or Splenda sweetener, take your own (they only have sweet n' low). ref: 24210

Do not be intimidated by the crappy appearance on the outside. This is a very rustic and casual burger joint but that's not necessarily bad. People are allowed to write freely on anything in the restaurant. My party of 10 was seated immediatedly upon walking in although we were there past 7. Before our meal we cracked peanuts set out for us and everyone throws the shells on the floor. The food took a while to come but when it did it was AMAZING! The black n blue burger I got was the best burger i've ever eaten and the fries were delicious. The cole slaw was even great. And the best part is that a high quality dinner for a family of 4 averages around only $50. Granted it was a bit noisy but not obnoxious at all. Overall, this is a GREAT restaurant and a real hidden jem. ref: 23628

My family (8 people total) went to the River City Cafe on 21st Ave on Friday 7/29/11. We asked to be seated inside as it was very hot (95+) this afternoon. We were told that if we wanted to eat inside, it would be a very, very, long wait. We asked if we could split our party (4 people at each table to eat inside), but we were told no they WOULDN'T do that. These people were extremely rude. So we ate outside. About 5 min after our order was taken, a party of 7 arrived and they were seated inside within 5 min. The service was very poor (they had only one person working both patios). She was doing the best that she could, but she didn't get any help from the other staff outside. There were three other staff members outside who were "working" (they were just standing around---making negative comments loud enough for everyone on the patio to hear) (they did not help the person waiting at all the outside tables). These three were laughing about how they had gotten some complaints about poor service. One said "What are they going to do about it--NOTHING" and they laughed some more. After getting our food (which was good), the flies came. I think the flies ate more of my meal than I did. After we finished with dinner, we waited over fifteen minutes to get our check (It was hot, flies were all over our food, and all I wanted to do was to get out of there). Finally, I went inside to pay and a man at the cash register (who was also very rude) said that my server would have to take my money. After I told him we had been waiting over 15 min, he told a staff member to take my money and he left before I could talk to him. I have eaten at the river city cafe at barefoot landing, and it was great, I would go there anytime. But some of the staff at the one on 21st ave needs an attitude adjustment--and the 8 of us won't be back. ref: 23514

We go to River City every year and I have never been disappointed. Being from the north, it's hard to find a good pork barbeque sandwich.I love River City's pork barbeque. It's the best I've ever had. The french fries are always cooked to perfection and the beer is the coldest in all of Myrtle Beach. We went during an extremely busy time. Were ignored due to need for more service people or a hostess. But as soon as we notified the manager that no one had acknowledged us or another couple after waiting 15+ minutes just for them to take our name, he did and we were seated almost immediately. I must say the burgers were excellent and the onion rings were the best I have ever eaten. (where can I get the recipe). Will go again and really don't mind waiting but need to be acknowledged and at least told the wait. ref: 22311

My husband & I just wanted a quick burger after eating seafood dinners every night of our vacation. We went to River City Cafe on advise from other people at our hotel. The burgers were WONDERFUL! I had the burger with ranch dressing/bacon. The bacon was very crisp and overall, the burger was the best I've EVER eaten. The fries were wonderful also! Can't wait to go back! We loved this restaurant! Only reason I can't give it an excellent for food served is because my kids ordered chicken fingers and it tasted like fish and not chicken. Not sure if it was the breading that was used or if it got fried in the wrong fryer, but they wouldn't eat them. The burgers on the other hand were out of this world! Me and and my husband went on a weekend getaway. the Cafe is one of the places we went and We enjoyed this location more than any other place we ate! If the admosphere is not enough for you the food will be! everything was out of this world good. We sat outside, which we both like. And i still cant believe how much food you get for such a low price! we will take our kids on our family vacation and save some money!!! Our service was wonderful. It's laid back everyone speaks to you and i can NOT wait to get back there. We go to myrtle beach sometimes three times a year. Our baseball team traveled from Ontario Canada to Myrtle Beach for a tournament at The Ripkin Experience. Our final night we all went to the River City Cafe. What a great place!! Everyone of us loved it. The food was great, service great and the whole experience is one I know our team of 13 year old boys will remember. About 12 yrs. Ago, I was looking for a good sloppy home made burger.the hotel mgr. Said to go to this place. He was right. The best i've ever had. We go there every time we're at the beach. I even drive from n. Myrtle. It's worth the trip as well as the wait. I tell my friends of this place. They agree as well. We always go to river city while at myrtle. sometimes we go several times during the week. its great for lunch or supper. everything on the menu us great. the burgers are delicious. the grouper sandwich is delicious. we ate lunch at 1 and were so stuffed we didnt eat supper until around 8 that evening. Our first meal every year during our Myrtle Beach stay is at the River City Cafe just a few blocks from our hotel. Always a fantastic blackend veggie burger for me every year. Actually all the burgers are the best we have ever found, anywhere! We were a little disappointed last year as all the burgers were a little to spicy hot. Maybe the chef dropped a can of red peppers in the mix. Other than that it is still the best and we will return this year. Don't forget the cold beer and the great low prices. This is always our first stop at Myrtle Beach. The food is very consistent - the waitstaff less so. If birds and squirrels running around on adjacent tables bother you, don't bother going! We enjoy the outside seating at the RCC by Long Bay Resort where we always stay. One year we will remember to bring a Sharpie pen to sign our names! This year I skipped the burgers and tried the Grouper Fingers, which were excellent. They were out of onion rings that day, so we had the Blooming Onion instead with the remoulade sauce, which was just as good. Kids' food was good, and my wife's Chicken Salad sandwich was very good. Bang for buck is good here, and they don't soak you on drink prices. Overall an 8 out of 10. Bathrooms here are always filthy - be prepared! ref: 15891

I have watched these restaurants get progressively worse over the years, 10-15 years ago you couldn't find a better burger. Went to the new place in Socastee on the Intercoastal Waterway last night, and it was horrible. Although the atmosphere was good, our waiter was far more concerned with visiting his friends at another table than taking care of his customers, the food was mediocre at best, it was cold, didn't have the toppings I asked for on it, and I had to get another waitress to fix it for me because our waiter was busy with his friends. ref: 15691

We stumbled upon River City while on vacation in Myrtle Beach. We loved it! The food and the atmosphere were wonderful. The prices were very reasonable, which is very rare at the beach. We were also glad to not have to drive somewhere like Broadway at the Beach. Everything there is outrageously overpriced. When our family comes to the beach, we want to stay near the beach! We enjoyed River City so much, that we ate there 2 nights of our vacation. We look forward to visiting again soon!

My family and I dined at this establishment in June 2008. We were all intriged by the layout and decor. We were seated in less than 2 minutes. I chose a bacon cheeseburger alony with one of my daughters. My wife had a grilled chicken and my 3 yr old daughter had a child plate of some type. It was the most she had eaten at a restaurant in a long time. Everything was great, especially the onion rings. We loved the food so much on that Saturday afternoon that of course I returned that evening for chicken wings and fries for the family. We are frequent visitors to Myrtle Beach and have made River City Cafe a regular stop. It is casual and kid friendly. It is nothing fancy, but it has a lot of character. We went down for our yearly golf outing and a coworker had suggested River City Cafe, best place we ate the whole weekend! Cheap, fast, and excellent food (a rustic atmosphere with license plates everywhere to keep you entertained during the short wait for your food! Our server was bubbly, personable, and accomodating. I highly recommend this place! Too many burgers to choose from but I recommend the RC burger...DELICIOUS! ref: 10575

This weekend was my first trip ever to River City Cafe, however my family ,that comes every year at Valentine's, has been consecutively for the past 4 years. We had a party of 12. Every single thing that we ordered was just as we ordered it. The food was great, the service was great and the beer was ice cold. It's a great place for all family members no matter what the age may be. Everyone needs to try this place. My family and I are leaving to go back home tomorrow and we are going back to eat tonite ref: 10056

We were on vacation for a week and this is the only place we ate twice. The burgers are GREAT. They actually arrive at your table and the meat is hot!! They don't tell you how big they are, ask how you want them cooked --- they just grill up a great burger every time. The buns are amazing, fresh toppings (and a ton of combinations) and interesting fries. Mine were never crispy as another reviewer said, but hot and delicious. They were actually kinda limp, but had more potato flavor than any fries I've had in a while. Fresh peanuts, cold beer, good slaw and an ocean view @ Surfside Beach. FOR $5.49!!! Are you kidding!!? And our servers couldn't have been nicer. Now that I'm back in Florida I'll miss them. ref: 9970

River City Cafe is awesome! Great food, their fries are the best I have ever had, always hot and crispy. They have great burgers, and if you are looking to save some calories their chicken salad plate is very fresh and satisfying. The atmosphere is laid back and beachy..just as it should be and the staff is laid back too, but they get the job done. Peanut shells are everywhere, but that makes it even better. On every beach trip, which is at least 8-10 times a year, my son requests lunch at the "Peanut Place" !!! ref: 9300

I eat at RCC often, usually at the Surfside locatin, because I love sitting on the deck overlooking the ocean.
My daughters and I had decided to go to this location, because we were right down the street.
We were sat on the streetside deck, and were blasted by the sun the entire time.
The service was awful, wrong food was brought. I ordered BBQ chicken wings, tereaki were brought out. The waiter was RUDE and said WE ordered the wrong thing. DONT THINK SO! After him brinigng the 2nd wrong order out, we got up and left, spoke to the manager, explaineed the situation and said we were not paying, the order was on the table. He was nice, but the rude waiter ruined it ref: 8518

I love River City Cafe. Everytime I'm in Myrtle Beach I have to go there. As soon as I walked in the door, I was seated. The staff was friendly, and the food was great. I went there twice while in Myrtle Beach it was so good. Usually, if it good the first time the second time is disappointing, but the second was as good as the first. You can't find a place in Mrytle beach that you can get a juicey hamburger, fries, and slaw for $5.50. YOU HAVE TO EAT THERE!!! ref: 8353

Normally we really like this place but the beer was not cold enough and although a hot day the restaurant was too warm inside. An air conditioning duct was leaking too. We have eaten here twice before but it seems like attention to basic details is now being missed. ref: 7681

I went to the River City Cafe in Surfside Beach on 6/8/07. We arrived at 8:45 PM. I had a party of 7 people. We arrived with 5 people and 2 were on the way from Socastee. We were told we could not be seated without our full party. At 9:15 PM I approached the hostess about being seated. The 2 people were at the stop light of Glens Bay Road. I told the young girl that they were almost here and we had 3 hungry children, I asked to be seated. She walked away from me and got another lady. I told her the same thing and asked why we couldn't be seated. She said during busy times they couldn't seat people without a full party and if they sat us then our friends couldn't sit with us. No one else was waiting to be seated!!!!! ref: 6261

A friend and I ate at the Barefoot Landing location today and we were both disappointed. There was a hair in her food and the french fries were greasy. When she told them about the hair and returned her hamburger, they looked at her like she'd grown a second head. They offered a feeble verbal apology, but didn't offer to comp her on her drink (diet coke) or even offer a discount on the meal for the incident. We will never go again. Too bad. This was a great place to eat! Server was friendly and attentive. Drinks were good, burgers were huge with a variety of toppings and the fries were excellent. Prices were very reasonable, even without the coupons we had. Under $35 for three adults with three entrees, a mixed drink, couple sodas and an appetizer between us. Great casual atmosphere- graffiti and peanut shells everywhere! We had to wait a while for a table but that was to be expected at a place this popular, especially during tourist season. We will definitely eat there again on our next trip to Myrtle Beach. ref: 3095

Best burger on the beach!! We were only sorry we didn't try River City the first night in town. Once we discovered River City, we are there nearly every night. There were so many things to try. Very reasonable pricing. Awesome taste!!

The Burgers are amazing... Most places on the strip are just tourist traps you pay ridiculous prices for okay food, this place is resonably priced with an awesome atmosphere, and great food. A local favorite, and a tourist must do. ref: 1395

I've been to each of the River City Cafe locations and have had excellent service and quality of food at each and every one, the laid back atmosphere is great. I think this is a great place to go eat. It was my first time eating there and it was great. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was very delicious. I loved how you could sign your name to the wall and while you ate you could read everyone else's messages that they had put on the wall. If you want a hamburger, River City is the place to go. They have 3 locations! These are very large burgers, so beware!!!! Every kind you can imagine. They even have fried bologna sandwiches. A VERY casual, yet glorified burger joint. I would never go here dressed up - only in shorts or jeans. There's writing on the tables and all over the bathroom walls. We sat out on the deck and watched the people streaming by. The chicken on my grilled chicken salad was delicious but the lettuce, mushrooms, and zucchini looked sour so I didn't eat any of them. There was enough chicken in the salad to fill me up though, so I didn't leave hungry. My husband said his burger and fries, as well as the iced tea, were all excellent. ref: 424
