We are visiting NMB with our family including three small grandsons. River City was the ideal spot for relaxing at dinner with a young family. The food is great. There's something for everyone on the menu, even the kids. Our server MATT was the best!!!! Fast, friendly, and fun. He truly made the evening. Thanks Matt !!

The play area for children should not be in a restaurant. It was very noisy with the kids screaming and the parents were not doing anything about it. Also a woman changed her kids diaper in the play area. We were seated right next to the play area. This ruined our dinner. I suggest you take the play area out and put more seating.

We ate at River City for the first time on 5/8/12. Loved it so much, we went to the River City in Surfside a few days later. The hamburgers are outstanding -- thick, fresh, and cooked just right. They have an AMAZING variety of unusual burgers. I had the Carolina burger which featured homemade pimento cheese...so good! (Can't imagine who would order the Smores burger, though.) Our waitress, Amber, was kind and attentive. The sweet tea is good, if you like it really sweet. The onion rings were thick-cut and A+. And it was fun to have free roasted peanuts to snack on before the burgers arrived. The prices were very reasonable. Yes, it's a bit loud, but it's a fun place....just not for "white tablecloth" folks who can't stand peanut shells on the floor. We'll be back!

The hamburgers were out of this world! Waited about 30mins to be seated. If you time allows you should eat outside. My entire family enjoyed their meal. This was the only time we allowed our kids to write on the table!

We are visiting from out of state so asked three different locals were to go eat lunch... ALL 3 told us River City Cafe. We went in, were seated immediately, the service was great, the hamburgers were excellent and the fries were excellent! We thought the food was a great value for the money and would definitely return.

River City is one of our favorite places to eat when we visit Myrtle Beach. Love the atmosphere of the place. My husband and I eat there at least twice in a five day stay. He would eat there every day but I like a little variety so we compromise.

We are locals and often ate here enjoying the nice view of the waterway while eating a good casual meal. The last few trips haven't been as good as even a year ago. Last night will have been our last trip ever to this location of River City Cafe. The waitress was the absolute worse server we have ever dealt with in our entire lives. We had to wait for her for a long time just to make an initial appearance. She brought us NO peanuts and we had to ask for them. When she brought out our meals she slid my plate in my general direction and disappeared before we could ask for ketchup. I had to get up and get ketchup myself since she was no where around. Then, after finishing our beers my husband ordered an iced tea. He was almost finished his dinner when she asked how everything was. I told her that he was still waiting on his tea.She brought it out but never asked him if he wanted a refill. We were incredulous that River city would hire someone so clueless as to what being a server should entail. Never again will they see us!

Bad food, but the service is even worse than the food. We were seated right away, but it took quite a while to be waited on. The waitress brought our soft drinks and quickly left; we had to ask for straws. I noticed everyone had peanuts on the table; I asked the waitress and she brought some after a few minutes. We had onion rings appetizer; they were huge and had extremely hard crust - the worst I've had. I had the Reuben sandwich. It tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich with corned beef, had very little sauerkraut or dressing. My wife had a not very tasty California burger. Rather than going on and on about how disappointed we were with River City Cafe, I'll just say we left quite a bit of food on the table. And a very small tip.

The food was awful, the only redeming quality to this place was the sweet tea. I had a burger, which tasted like it was more salt than burger. My husband had a "pulled" pork sandwich and he said you could not tell it was pork because it was so mushy. Eat here at your own risk.

We were not able to get a table without a 45 minute wait so we opted to eat at the Bar. This was a good decision. We were seated immediately, the waiter took our order and the food was delivered promptly. The waiter made suggestions as to what was good on the menu and I can say that we had the best (juicy) hamburgers. They even cooked them a little on the rare side which is almost impossible to get in MB. The hamburger were a little messy (with all the topings I added) therefore they give you a roll of paper towels. The onion rings were the biggest I have ever seen and were great. If you are looking for atmosphere this is not the place but if you want a great hamburger go here and not to Hamburger Joe's which is touted as having the best burgers

I have read the reviews above and having eaten at 3 of the River City Cafes in the Myrtle Beach area, there is a large difference between them-----most of what is said about Barefoot Landing is true---food not as good, service is terrible etc. I have tried it 3 times and vowed after the last bad experience----never again. I found the service at the Surf Side location to be very slow and a serious lack of concern for customer service exists there. Now if you dine at the location in Myrtle Beach you will draw ACES--and that is where I placed my high scores-----food and service are outstanding and that is the place to go----you will enjoy your experience there---great burgers and onion rigs-----yes indeed-----

We went early, around 4:00 and there was only one other table occupied. The waitress came and got our order, but failed to write anything down, so when it came, she put it on the table and practically ran. My burger was good, but the fries were cold and greasy. My hubs burger was not as ordered so he scraped off the stuff he didn't want onto a paper towel and left it in the middle of the table and ate it. He didn't want to wait for it to be made again. His response was it's edible and I'm hungry. She came by the table and looked down and saw the "fixins" he scraped off his burger on the table and ran and didn't come back until we were done to ask if we need more water. Service was bad, waitress was dumb, music is loud, the only good thing was the peanuts. We won't go back ever again.

We went to River City Cafe on a Sunday night in late August 2009 and sat ourselves immediately. We were looking for a good blackened grouper sandwhich and had read that the restaurant had good grouper sandwhiches at reasonable prices. Well, we were not disappointed. The grouper fillet was sizeable and cooked to perfection, served with a generous portion of french fries and cole slaw (also good). Surprsingly, there are not all that many restaurants where you can get a grouper sandwhich in Myrtle Beach/North Myrtle Beach, but I would recommend River City Cafe to anybody.

Second time I tried this place and I'm still not impressed. My husband liked his burger, but mine was dry and not tasty. I honestly could have gotten a better tasting burger from a dollar menu at a fast food restaurant. It was so noisy we had to shout to talk to each other. Our waiter stopped by our table twice, to take our order and give us our bill. Someone else brought out the food for us and no one stopped by to ask us how were doing, if we needed drink refills, or if our orders were even correct. The food is reasonably priced, but still not worth it.

December 28, 2009 was our third and final visit to River City Cafe. Can't believe how the service and attitude of the staff has depreciated. We waited quite a while for someone to come over and take our order. By the way, we were the only two people seated inside until other guests came in later. There were several people on the waterfront patio but a few parties left when they couldn't get service. Others who complained about the service, still didn't get served, and left. Others left without tipping. Our food was fine but it took a long time to get from the time it was ordered. I had to return mine because it didn't come as ordered. When the waiter told the manager that I asked for no onions but received it with only onions, the manager laughed. The waiters response was a loud comment containing obscenities and with no concern for children in the restaurant. The music was awful and certainly not family oriented. The staff seemed immature and there for their own good time. Certainly not focussed on customer care. I'm a Myrtle Beach property owner and spend a lot of time in the area. I've recommended this place to people in the past but will not be going back.

This guy is right about their shrimp....they're awful. Baby shrimp, fresh out of the frozen box. I guess the owner has never tried the shrimp. River City Cafe is part of the Divine Dinning Group. Surely they do not serve this same shrimp at Bubba's Fish Shack, Pacific Grille or Divine Fish House.

The french fries are greasy and does NOT come with the meal, that is why their prices are so good. The onion rings and chicken fingers don't have the unusal crust on them. It's a crunchy kind of crust that actual scratched my gums.

If you are looking for a quick place to eat outside, this is it. If you are looking for a wonderful dining experience, this is not it.

We tried this for lunch and violated our one rule, no cars/business, leave. Unfortunately we did not observe the giant stop sign beside the front door until we left, again we should have stopped at the front door and turned around. So now about the meal, I had the fried shrimp basket. It came with 'fresh cut' french fries and slaw. The shrimp were tiny (the size of an infant's pinky) and no self respecting restaurant should serve such a poor excuse for shrimp. How can an organization that professes to be a restaurant make 'fresh cut' french fries inedible? if you need to know just contact River City Cafe, they can certainly share their recipe. My husband had the grouper finger basket, with similar thoughts. Thank goodness we had an abundance of cocktail sauce to drown the food with something of flavor. As for the facilities, it was just dirty. I know they advertise that you can throw the peanut shells on the floor. Maybe that is fun and appealing after a six-pack, but it does not make for an pleasant dining atmosphere. In addition, there were all sorts of birds on the outside deck walking around on the tables.....yuck..

Review for River City Cafe in Surfside- the outdoor ocean front view was great the food & service were not. Will not try again. Poor service, saw a waitress for another table slide her palm from her chin to above her nose then grasp that tables water pitcher across the rim, she also bit her nails, and scratched her hieny while attending this same table. We ordered burgers, the homemade fries and my daughter had chicken fingers. Fries and chicken fingers were grease flavored-wish I had sent them back but didn't wanna risk angering the staff cooking my food. Burgers were good. Joe's Hamburgers is the place to go my husbands fav. and our beach tradition till this visit. Boy did we go wrong. Eat At Joe's. Hate I didn't tell the manager but I really hated to be all bit---. Eat anywhere but don't eat here.

We have eaten at this restaurant the past two years we have been to Myrtle Beach. Last year we froze to death while we were eating, so this year we were hoping for some improvement. We were sadly disappointed. When we arrived to the restaurant on 6/24/08, it was almost 5:00 PM. The place was busy but there were tables open. However, we had to wait and wait before any of the waiters/waitresses even asked us (or even looked up at us) if we wanted to be seated. Several walked right past us and looked at us, but then continued on. Finally, one of the waiters asked if we had been helped yet and he was told a resounding "NO!" Eventually, he did get us seated. After we were seated, we again waited and waited for someone to tell us who our waiter/waitress was. We almost got up and left, however another of the waitresses asked us for our drink order and took our meal order. She said that she was not our waitress but "Ebony???" was She also told us that she would do this for us so we would not have to sit and wait anymore than we already had. I love a good hamburger and french fries - in fact one could say that it is my all time favorite meal. However, we will not be returning to this restaurant again. I can understand having to wait and wait if there were no other tables available or a long line waiting to get in - but we were the only ones in line and there were tables open. I am not one to normally complain about service at a restaurant. But this one time really pushed all the wrong buttons. Sorry River City Cafe - but you lost my business for good.

We went here looking for a good burger and found it. The atmosphere is kind of fun with graffiti and license plates covering every inch of the walls. There baskets of peanuts in the shell are a nice touch. The burgers were big and satisfying. My son had a battered and fried mahi-mahi sandwich which was huge and surprising good. The onion rings were big and greasy like they should be. The service was good, but the place wasn't very crowded. Be advised that meter parking is expensive. (The meters take credit cards.) The waiter advised me to park on a grassy strip across the street to beat the meters.

What a cool place to eat! There are coupons in the magazines to make your burger a platter for $5.49. Almost all of us did that, but we didn't all need to. There are SO many fries on a platter, that 2 of us easily could have shared! We also ordered the onion bloom, and it was better than any I'd ever had. We ate outside overlooking the intercoastal waterway. With license plates on the walls and fun music playing, the grown ups had as much fun as the kids. My 20 year old niece said this was her favorite restaurant of all we visited in Myrtle Beach. I would ABSOLUTELY go here again and again. The little play area in front was great for the kids...even though all 7 of us were seated almost immediately. Great food, great price for the quanity.

Wow! This place has great food! I had the grilled grouper sandwich that was divine. My children loved the bacon cheddar burgers with the delicious fries. The wings are also wonderful. If you are looking for a casual, inexpensive place to eat with your family, look no further. The atmosphere is great too. My children thought it was fabulous that they could write their names on the walls and throw their peanut shells on the floor.

This was a GREAT place to eat! The kids LOVED the indoor playarea! They didn't want to come and eat! Food was excellent! One of the best burgers I have ever had! We also had a coupon for our burgers so the price couldn't be beat!

River City Cafe is GREAT!! We have been there about three times. There burgers are great!! The service is always okay or good depending on which waiter you get and which one of the restaurants you go to. We have ate at the one in Barefoot Landing and on the ocean. I suggest you try this place if you are looking for a place with good burgers!

I thoroughly enjoyed the food at River City Cafe. The food was great and the service was very personalized. I loved the onion rings and the burgers was very good, great selection and the price is very reasonable.

Burgers are done on a flat fry-pan grill, not a BBQ grill and are tasty but buns get soggy quickly from the grease. French fries are a disgrace. They are limp piles of grease. Obviously, they have not been blanched before a final fry. You get three onion rings - they are big - in an order but the batter has no flavor and the onion has no zing. This place has really gone downhill since we started going there 10 years ago.

If your looking for good food don't go here... Out of a party of 7 only 2 people thought the food was good. The fries were a soggy pile of grease, and the onion rings were way too big and were also greasy. Maybe another River City Cafe would be better, but I'm not going to take the chance to try this one again. There are to many good restaurants to waste your time here.

We were there during the week when not busy. BBQ sandwich, fries, and cole slaw was excellent and prices were excellent! Very casual and they still smoke in restaurants, but that's the way it is in South Carolina! Their peanuts are free, fresh, and the best! Enjoyed it!

Our party consisted of 6 adults, and 1 child (5). Everybody ordered a Burger platter I had the Buffalo Chicken sandwich platter. The chicken was way below average it was big, and thick the bun was falling apart by the time it reached the table. The taste was ok. The onion rings were about as round as a baseball, and greasy. The Fries were nothing but a soggy grease pile. We were very disapointed with everything. Yes we should have complined, but after traveling several hours we were tired, and hungry so we tolerated it. Save your money maybe a different River City Cafe would be good, but our experience sucked, and we WON'T go back......
