Ice cream/Desserts Restaurant in North Myrtle Beach

Original Painters Homemade Ice Cream
Rated: 3 out of 5 with 60 Reviews

The home of the Vanna Banana named after Vanana White the ice cream here is the best on the beach. The window is lined with pictures of celebrities, the service is fast and friendly . Was voted Best ice cream by people magazine in 2000, was featured on Wheel of Fortune. Not the same as Garden City location, this is the original Painters, where Vanna eats.

I mean really; are people in business for themselves really this dumb to thumb their noses at their own customers? Honestly, I could care less about about any establishment with rude employees and that's why Painters Ice Cream will never see another dime from me! But maybe if I dipped ice cream all day long for a living, I might go nuts too -lol

Stay away from this place if you don't want to be yelled at by the employees!! I live in this area, and had just been to Painter's a few weeks ago. When I asked for the same sundae I had gotten before, I was told that they didn't have it. So, I asked about a couple more flavors they had on the board, and was rudely told that they didn't have them, and it appeared that I was really irritating the woman. They was no one in line behind me, and only one other couple that had already been served, so I wasn't holding up the line, or anything. I then told them I wanted a Heath Bar Crunch Sundae, (meaning a sundae with the Heath bar crunch ice cream flavor), and the woman rudely and loudly informed me that they didn't have that flavor. When I asked about making a sundae with that flavor, the woman said that I hadn't asked for that. I then asked her why she was being so b*****, and I left. I definitely will never go back to this place again!!!!

My husband and I were excited to go to a local ice cream place. We were very disappointed by the selection. I was very disappointed by the orange/pineapple flavor. It was very bland, tasteless, and not creamy. I got better ice cream at Mc Donalds. Don't get me started about price. We spent over $8.00. I would not bother going there again. When did they get voted for best ice cream?

Ice cream was freezer burned and covered with ice crystals. The price is decent for so-called "homemade" ice cream, but I could've gotten an entire carton of store-bought ice cream for the same price, and it would've tasted much fresher. The lady serving us acting like we (my friend and I) were inconveniencing her, although there were only two people behind us. Don't waste your time there, unless you enjoy old-tasting ice cream and snappy servers.

The ice cream was good not the best homemade ice cream we ever had. We wish we had a Marcie's Homemade Ice Cream store in MB when we travel for the winter. Marcie's is the creamiest most flavorful ice cream, even better than the Creamery at Penn State. If your ever in Northwest PA look up Marcie's Homemade Ice Cream you won't be disappointed ever. We love it so much we have had it shipped to us overnight.

I luv painters ice cream. My family was on vacation and the owner let us watch them make the homemade ice cream so I know it's made there, the bldg where they make it is in the back of the parlor. The man behind the counter is always so nice to my family and is too funny. I have been there countless times and always been treated with respect...also, have seen vanna n she is very nice, as well;-).

Our family has been coming to Painters for the last 40 years. I would say we are an expert in this establishment. Unfortunately, the Painters of yester year is long gone, the quality, cost, and atmosphere that our family was accustomized to has be replaced with high cost, low quality, ice cream shop that does not have the chunks of fruit, and other goodies that the Painters of yesterday had. I am sorry to say, its gone....Sorry Painters of yesterday......we will miss you....... hope someone else will pick up the pieces.....

Went to Painter's twice over Mother's Day weekend. Both times excellent service. We stopped as we were leaving on Sunday and they were not open. The guy inside found out we were heading back home and opened up for us to get one last cone. He did not have to do that and we really appreciated it. He was very courteous and friendly, and as usual the ice cream was fantastic. Have been going there every time we go Myrtle Beach since the 60's. This is a great place.

We have been going to Painters for years. Something is really really different. It is not homemade ice cream anymore. I know for sure that it has changed. There was ice crystals all over the ice cream and not creamy wonderful like the in the past years. No wait anymore. Everyone must know it is different. So sorry to say it is no longer my favorite ice cream.

Tried this place tonight after passing by it for the past 2 days. The strawberry cheesecake was some of the best I've ever had. With that said, service could have been more friendly. Limited to only one sample so if you don't like it, you're out of luck. Again, ice cream was excellent but just felt that service level should be improved!

I did not like the ice cream, and I ordered a single scoop cone, and there was more on top of the cone than my brother's single scoop cup! They even filled his cup up halfway! There is a sign outside the shop that says," VOTED BEST IN AMERICA!!" but it is definitely not true. The people didn't even speak american when we asked for sprinkles! It was totally not worth the pricey cost

Can't tell you all the great memories we have of Dominic and Painter's Ice Cream. We started coming to Myrtle Beach in 1981 and haven't missed a summer since. Painter's is a staple on our list and we are customers almost every night we are in town for the week. Dominic is the best and you will find our picture on the window. We are submitting a new one this year since the other one was so old. Our group has grown over the years from 14 to now 26. Go by and visit Dominic and the staff.

I'm new to the area and thought that the sign "voted best in US" indicated a good ice cream place - WRONG!! First, the person taking my order behind the counter was rude and short with me for asking questions about the flavors. i ordered 2 scoops with HOT FUDGE and almost fell over when i was told the price - totally OVERPRICED! the ice cream i received (with chocolate SYRUP, not hot fudge) was so bad i wound up throwing it out and will NEVER go back again. what a waste of my time and money!

We've vacationed in MB for over 30 years and I must say Painter's was our only bad experience this year with food and drink. The ice cream portions were reduced but more importantly it was nasty. My daughter ordered a THICK milk shake. The servers accomplished this by adding more milk and extra strawberry syrup; not ice cream. This made it so nasty she had to dump it out! The servers act like you are imposing on them! If this place is still in business next season, it will not be on our stop!

Me and my friends were traveling through north myrtle beach and stopped in, we were not impressed by the looks of the building, kinda runned down, and the man at the window didn't even give us a greeting. We ordered the oreo and it tasted like bananas, very nasty. And the man refused to refund it. And $3.35 for that little cup? Over priced. The man working was listing in on our conversation the entire time, and then didn't give us a good greeting as we left. Was not happy with Painters in north myrtle beach. Will never return again.

I am currently sitting here at painters eating my 4 dollar scoop of heath bar crunch. My friend got oreo which ended up tasting like banana then dropped it off her cone by accident. They refused to replace her scoop even after she apologized for dropping it. They have no bathroom and you are fored to sit in the heat outside. We recently visited the other painters locations in garden city where my 3 year old dropped her cone and it was graciously replaced by the young lady working. I would suggest that anyone wanting good homemade icecream visit the garden city locations which are of no affiliation which the north myrtle beach location. Also the garden city locations offer bathrooms and air conditioned seating!

The ice cream tasted like it had been sitting in the freezer for weeks! And the server was extremely rude and didnt care one bit that we were unhappy! But while I was in Garden City my family insisted on trying Painter's down there since we had heard so much about it. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! the servers were much nicer and friendly and more willing to make us whatever we wanted!! Toffee crunch ice cream in the millionare sundae is the best thing ive ever had and i am looking forward to visiting the Garden City location every time we are even close to Myrtle Beach!

This place was awful!!! Ice cream not bad,but overpriced and not nearly worth what we paid. The cone was stale and the scoop of icecream was very small leaving me very unsatisfied and wishing I had went somewhere else for a better icecream. And further more the server was very unfriendly and hateful, she practically threw the cone at me when bring the icecream cone to me. I truly do not understand the "voted best in the U. My husband and I went to this place on 5/2/09 and ordered ice cream sundaes and the service was awful! The young white guy that was serving the ice cream was hateful acting short when I asked questions and he only gave a scoop of ice cream when I ordered a $4.00 sundae and a lot of whipped cream. He got my husband's icream order wrong and when he went to take it back up to the young man to correct the order, the young man yelled back at my husband and stated that was what he ordered and would not refund or fix another sundae for him! Vanna White recommends this place on TV, I would not recommend this place to no one!!! This young man could have been charged with disorderly conduct if law enforcement was present!

It was like we were bothering her. Your ice cream would be better if you hired new staff. I saw that Vanna White and other celebrities rave about it, "whatever" a disappointment. We love Painters! We go atleast three times during our week stay each year. My husband loves the butter pecan, I think the vanilla is by far the best I have ever had. The peach is pretty amazing as well. The banana pudding is good too. It is usually so packed each time we go and the staff is always accomodating and ask us where we are from. It is always nice to chat with the other patrons to see what flavors they are getting.

The original Painters in North Myrtle is by far the best ice cream on the beach. Make sure you are not confusing this with the imposters which are farther south in Garden City. If visiting in the summer, expect to wait in line, but worth it!

We are locals. We went there with our 3 kids to "the best Icecream on the planet"....Hahahaha...what a joke. the icecream was so awful that when my husband told the man it went bad, the man called the cops on my husband! What a loser!!! My kids were crying and screaming, all they wanted was some icecream...I would NEVER EVER eat at that place!!!!!

My parents started taking us to Painters when we first visited Cherry Grove Beach in 1968. My Grandfather found $80 under one of the picnic tables and you would have thought he had struck gold, but in 1968...that was gold. We all decided that not only did my Grandfather strike gold...we did too...because Painters Ice Cream is Golden!

I go to painter's ice cream every summer and every time it tastes better and better. It is cool to see all of the photos of famous people on the walls. Like Vanna White I think was one of the coolest people who went there, and her signature ice cream is really good. You should go there sometime and visit the other cool places in NMB.

Above average ice cream. I love the banana nut. The only problem is they are out of flavors much of the time. If it's good enough for Vanna White it's good enough for me.

My party of 6 thought that the ice cream was nothing special and the service was anything but friendly. Not a hello, how are you, or even a thank you. We are locals and will not return. Overpriced to boot!

Painters is the WORD for ice cream at the beach. A personal favorite of our family's, and mine since 1974. We've been known to drive the 4 1/2 to 5 hours from Virginia with Painters being the very first stop. Ice cream is always that, creamy. A multitude of flavors all good and fresh tasting. And they'll even pack ya some to take back home.

My husband and I have been going to Myrtle Beach for years and always find time to enjoy Painter's ice cream everyday that we are in town. We have yet to find ice cream anywhere else in the US that tastes as great. My favorite is the Fudge-n-nana. I would recommend that you try it!
