On May 13, 2016 my husband after a viewing a movie at one of the theaters at Barefoot Landing decided on grabbing some lunch. We saw Joes Crab Shack and thought what an excellent choice. Wrong! We were not greeted when we entered for several minutes. The dining area was not busy we observed several servers hanging out in empty booths up front and several servers clocking out. We were seated for several minutes (10 min) without anyone offering to take are order. Two servers argued behind us that we should not of been seated in that section because it wasn't her turn. This same server finally acknowledged us by saying some one (not her) will be with you and promptly sat down in a empty booth near the hostess stand and continued talking with 3 other servers. Not ONE of them offered to go ahead and help us, I remind you the dining room was virtually empty. We collected our things and headed out the door. The hostess looked like "we blew it" but the three servers happily chatting just watched us walk out like "whatever". Very disappointing luckily we walked a few feet down and found a great spot to eat with quality service.

Great food! Pricey but worth it. It is a well know policy everywhere if you have a group the gratuity is already added to your check. So keep in mind if you go to any restaurant this is common policy. It is a noisy atmosphere but still very nice.

We ate at Joe's Crab Shack on 5-31-2013, five adults, two children. WE had 2 children's meals, 2 fish dinners, 4 shrimp dinners along with 1 steam pot for all of us to try. The food was average, I've ate better. The waiter was great. Our bill was 192.00!!! There was 26.00 gratitude and 18.00 dollars in tax's. We are always good tippers but, this was overboard for the typed service and restaurant Joe's is and, the food is overpriced for the quality and amount of food you get. Also my husband ask the manager about the gratitude and, it was obvious that he wanted to be loud so everybody could hear and try to embarrass you. Needless to say, we won't go back. ED:gratitude = gratuity

We've been going to Joe's Crab Shack for about 5 years, ever since we started including Barefoot Landing in our yearly visit to Myrtle Beach, & all I can say is this place is its WONDERFUL. The food is always excellent, and the service is so cheerful! Waiters & waitresses actually look like they're enjoying their jobs! The only thing to watch out for is the wait... But I can understand why it takes so long: everyone loves this place so much! We absolutely love the staff & their enthusiasm! Much love from our party, & we'll see ya in June!... P.S. Try the Maui Mahi. It's to die for!

My wife and I visited Joe's this afternoon for a late lunch. Thinking we made the right choice by seeing the mouth watering commercials on tv our belly were ready for some heaping pots of crab clams and shrimp. Well our bellies were still longing for that after we left! Terrible was what I thought. I feel like I was robbed by this establishment. Don't get me wrong the food was good but I did not receive all the food in the pot that was described in the menu. I was also not impressed by the way the alcohol was pushed down my throat by the waitress. Not everyone drinks and I don't appreciate an attitude when I ask for a soda. I will never return to any Joes crab shack restaurants ever. I am going to actively tell everyone I know to boycott this restaurant as well. False advertising should be against the law.

In September of 2012 we went on vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC and one night decided to eat at Joe's. My parents, my nephew, my fiance and I had decent meals and the service was fine. The bill for our meals totaled just over $85. My fiance and I decided to get a dessert while my father payed the $85 plus tip in cash. Our dessert totaled just over $9. As my parents left the table to walk around some other stored before they closed, we were given our check which we paid with a Visa. Being in a hurry to catch up to my parents, my fiance quickly signed the slip and we left. When we returned to our condo, she checked her bank account and noticed she had been charged the $85. We figured it was an honest mistake so we called the restaurant and the manager agreed that the charge was not correct and gave us a number to call to have it fixed. We called and left a message, which was not returned. We called several more times and never received a return call. We decided to go through the bank and file a claim. A few months passed and we received a letter in the mail with a copy of the signed $85 receipt and a statement telling us that our money would not be refunded. We called the restaurant again and the management truly seemed to want to help, although they NEVER returned my calls or followed up as promised. I spoke to 2 restaurant managers and a district manager before being given a direct number for a customer service rep in Texas. After speaking with her a few times she said that because they had a copy of the signed receipt our money would not be refunded. I told her if that was the case then the cash my father payed was stolen and that he should call. He called and spoke with her as well as another manager for the store. They told him he was lying and that as far as they were concerned the matter was settled. So essentially we have come to the conclusion that the waitress at the restaurant pocketed my fathers cash minus the $9 for the dessert and charged the main bill to my fiances Visa. I've never seen a company try this hard to not satisfy a customer. The least they could do is offer us a gift card, but they were insistent on calling us liars.

Let me just start by saying that this was the one and only time in my 35 year life that I have ever walked out of a restaurant before even being served. We got a seat right away, which happened to be the only good from our visit. After we sat, we never even saw a waitor/waitress. We watched as two different sets of patrons were not only visited once for drink orders, but were also visited a second time to get their food orders. We never had anybody come to our table. When we got up to leave, nobody said a word to us, and we walked right back past the hostess on our way out the door, and heard nothing from her either. Worst experience ever. I'll never go back.

I rate this particular restaurant chain on a low scale because our food was cold and the bill was $180.00; way too much for 3 buckets, 2 of the cheapest fish plates on the menu and 2 $6.00 kids meals which made my daughter vomit in the car on the way home. The waitress was told to put the bill on a gift card and $25.00 dollars on the bank card, she did the very opposite because we didn't agree to add five or ten dollars to our bill as for a fund raiser they were sponsoring. The music was very loud and my children was frightened, some people don't listen to loud music. I will never go to Joes Crab Shack again instead it will be a local family restaurant with reasoning prices for the little food and a waitress that listens to what the customer wants. There was no tip for her!! at Barefoot Landing on September 21,2011

I love Joes Crab shack!!!! The servers are the best I have ever seen... Make you feel like family. Managers are on hand to greet customers also to make sure only the best service is provided. Every hour on the hour the servers do the most entertaining dance to entertain their guest.. (I hope they never stop this tradition) When ever family comes from out of town Joes is where everyone wants to go! The Crab Nacho are superb! I Love JOES CRAB SHACK!!!!!!

Its a decent place to go if you arent starving. I have been twice. The first time was because I received a gift card and the second was only because we couldnt find anywhere else that had seafood in the area. The meals are definitely NOT worth what you pay. I ordered the "Crab Daddy Feast" thinking I wasnt going to be able to finish it. But the crab legs were extremely small. The corn was over cooked and the potatoes were awful. I will never go there by choice again. Not worth what you pay. Spending over $100 for 2 adults and 2 children to leave hungry is not in my future agenda

We were in Myrtle Beach for our family vacation during Labor Day week. We visited Joe's for dinner on a Thursday evening. Our server was Caleb. Outstanding is all I can say about him. He was very attentive as was the manager Tiffeney. The atmosphere was fun and enjoyable. We wil go back again when we are in Myrtle Beach. We were all full when we left. The portions were abundant and we didn't leave hungry at all. Even with all the "all you can eat" places available Joe's was the right choice for us!

Joe's is great. Inside can be loud, but get seated on the screened-in deck and enjoy your crab. Even as a native New-Englander I've always been pleased with their clam chowder. The only issue to consider is that there are all-you-can-eat options that are close to Joe's that will offer you a lot more food for the same amount of money. Food for thought.

We ordred the Steamed King Crab Legs which are prepared in a bucket with red potatoes, corn on the cob and choice of seasoning. The food was excellent, however a bit overpriced. My husband and I ended up sharing the crab and a steamed shrimp appetizer to keep the cost down. We ate out at a different seafood restaraunt two nights later which provided just as many crab legs for ten dollars less. The atmosphere is definately upbeat and festive. Overall we would recommend this place for anyone who loves SPICY steamed crab legs.

It was about 6 PM and the place was nearly empty which should have been the first clue that JOE'S CRAB SHACK was NOT the place for us to have dinner. There were 4 in our party and 3 of us ordered the CRAB CAKE SANDWICH. We were served a lump of crab meat on a cold roll. The 3 of us should have immediately sent our meals back to the kitchen but we did not have much time to eat because we needed to be at a show shortly. Not that it is an excuse for the terrible meal we were served but the place was empty, the kitchen staff was not rushed and had ample time to prepare and present a decent meal. While on vacation, I will never eat at JOE'S CRAB SHACK again. I will tell my friends of my experience, also..

I have been to Joes in Broadway at the Beach numerous times with good results, but in October 2007, we went and never got served. We were seated and waited 20 minutes for a waiter who never showed. We left. I would say the food the previous two times was good, but not great. Atmosphere is cool, but if you're there to eat, it's only average. Drinks are great, though.

Ok--My husband and I ate at the Joe's Crab Shack in the San Diego area, and this is the first place I found to review without having to give out all my info to the marketers out there... We found the food to be quite delicious (yes, we were hungry). The wait to be seated was not bad. The service and atmosphere was quite crude--but we figured after a while that was purposeful. This was our only problem--real problem with the place: Every person that was serving us food advertised in some way on their T shirt that they had an STD!--This was so UNAPPETIZING!! I really don't care to have waiters or waitresses-or chefs or anyone else touching my food to have "crabs"--(slang for pubic lice!) This was so gross! All the T-shirts that the staff were wearing had the double meaning in regards to "crabs" like: "My waitress gave me crabs at Joes Crab Shack" and "Crabs are for eating not for itching" and the like. I'd suggest that Joe's Crab Shack get a new and CLEANER idea for promotional advertising. People who think that dirty double meanings are funny for public use just don't have class in my opinion, and I certainly was repulsed by the idea when I was served my food after reading all the t-shirts of the workers going by. YUCK! and no thanks.--Other than that, the whole experience would have been pretty nice.

We were seated very quickly, a woman came and said that she wouldn't be our server and took our drink order. Then the lady I assume was our waitress delivered our drinks, I never heard her say her name. She asked "What can I get you?" We told her, she left, we didn't see her until we were ready to leave. Our whole table needed refills by then. We asked for the check to be all separate, she gave a huff, and left. We paid and left. The service was horrible in my opinion.

OK. bottom line here folks. If you're looking for a great place to sit down with your family and enjoy a dinner on the water at barefoot landing GO SOMEWHERE ELSE ! on the other hand if you and your drunk friends that can barely stand want to come here and make so much noise you can't even order your food with the waitres standing right infront of you then GO. ! my wife was looking forward to finally eating some seafood while near the coast because the children and I don't like it and she said she had tasted better in Knoxville,TN and man that's JUST SAD !

We recently visited this restaurant and were somewhat surprised at the amount of food that was served for the money. It was very disappointing since there are so many good restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area that give a hearty portion of food for the dollar spent. Most plates are less money than we spent at Joe's. I will certainly not go back and will mention to friends that the value is just not there. The restaurant was the one at Broadway at the Beach..

Visited the Joe's Crab shack on Hwy 6 in Houston, TX. This used to be a great place to eat. The food was good and the service was good. This visit was very dissapointing. We had to wait at least 15 minutes for a table. There were more empty tables than occupied ones. When we asked why the long wait when all these tables were empty, we were told a lack of wait staff. Once we were seated and waited on it went from bad to worse. Two of the plates of food were so cold that they were not fit to eat. We again had to wait while the waitress brought the food back to the kitchen. When a live cat walked across the floor between the tables on the outside porch I knew I probably won't be going back to that Joe's again.

My family and I have been comming to Myrtle Beach for 30 years now and out of all the places that we have eaten Joes Crab Shack is our favorite. The staff that they hire are always very cheerful and helpful. The atmosphere is wonderful. One of our favorite meals is the coconut shrimp. And we have had the same meal at other resturants and none compare. Thanks Joes!! See you this September.

Awful!! Second time my wife and I went to give it another try as the first time wasn't great, but not too bad. We were seated right away (7:00 PM) and then had to wait for waitress who didn't really know the menu. We ordered and began our wait, and waited, and wated until we finally saw her and asked her to check on our meals. They came 5 minutes later. MyMahi Mahi was just ok, my wife's was cool chicken and shrimp, neither of which had any taste. We ate because we were hungary and wanted out. We again looked and looked for her and finally asked a nearby waiter. He came with the check moments later...8:30 when we left. Second time is the last.

We sat down outside at 7:30 and left at 9:15. Our server had never been trained. She could not remember to get me a sweet tea refill. I had to ask 2 other servers and then got an unsweet tea. We ordered crab stuffed shrimp and crab cake sandwich. The sandwich was supposed to come with fries and slaw. No slaw on plate but our server did not bring our food nor check back with us. We could not order dessert- no server. The table next to us was 8 young adults very well dressed and very polite. They waited 30 minutes after ordering their sodas then asked another server to help them. We told them not to get our waitress but thats who they got. Then the manager mimi came over to them and told them that if they bothered another server she would ask them to leave. They left. I was appalled at the treatment of that table. They did nothing wrong and were very polite. Our server would come into the room and look around with nothing in her hands and then leave. 20 min after we ordered she came back and asked if I ordered the "crab belly feet feast" I had ordered crab stuffed shrimp and even pointed to the entree on the menu. She asked if we were sharing it-my daughter ordered a crab cake sandwich. She clearly had no idea of the menu or how to waitress. I wish the manager had visited our table. We have eaten at joes many times in houston-their servers are trained much better..

This was the worst meal of our vacation. The food was cold and gross and the order was incorrect. The server did not understand english well and we had to repeat things several times. She didn't know what slaw or coke were??? now come on..... All four meals we ordered were horrible and the price for it was way too high. We will never eat there again and we won't recomend it to anyone either..

Was in Myrtle Beach for the first time this September and Joes Crab Shack was the first restuarant I went to for lunch. The clam chowder was very good and the fried calamari was the best I've ever had (I've eaten in many, many times in various restaurants all over the East Coast). It was tender and not greasy at all. Would definitely eat here again next time I visit the area.

We ordered the calabash/popcorn shrimp, and it seemed that it was frozen. Almost as if it was something that you got from a Morton's Fish box in the frozen foods section of your grocer. I was very surprised that in Myrtle Beach that a restaruant would try to serve calabash shrimp that was so poor and try and get away with it. Location and atmosphere can only go so far.

We went in a bit early for lunch (11:45). Waited long for seating. Poor service at the table also, even though the restaurant was not yet busy (new server). Waited an extrordinary long time to be served. Greasy fried food, no vegtable options at lunch. We have had better fish and chips at Long John Silvers! Then, we were overcharged for lunch menu items (probably new server error), which was corrected.

Good thing we were not in a hurry!

I eat at Joe's in Houston all the time. Love the place!! Servers are always friendly and food is always hot. There is always live entertainment on Friday nights. One time it was a magician who came to each table and did a few tricks. Sometimes it's the balloon guy who makes things from balloons. Once, the entire staff performed a dance to the song "CARWASH" Really a COOL place!!

EVERYBODY visit Joe's on Richmond in Houston!!!

Went here with family hoping to get great seafood on our vacation- was extremely dissappointed. Actually the food was average but our service was honestly the worst ever. We saw our waiter once- when he took our order- then never again. Someone else had to bring our food out and then we had to practically beg other waitresses when we needed refills or condiments, etc. Then it took at least 15 min. to get our check- only after speaking to a manager. If you expect good service-go somewhere else!

We went there for our first night in Myrtle Beach hoping to get some good seafood. We live in Charlotte but moved there from CT where we were able to get fresh seafood which was wonderful..Joe's was not wonderful nor was it really fresh. I got the seafood platter and the scallops were the tiny ones which were way overcooked and the fish was inedible and very fishy smelling. I don't know what they use for batter but it was dull and tasteless. The crab dip was good, not great. My daughter loved feeding the turtles and carp during dinner. For 2 entrees, 1 appetizer, 1 beer and a kids meal it was $65 which was way overpriced for the quality. I was very disappointed!

We love the food at Joe's Crab Shack! It is truely delicious. The service leaves something to be desired. The staff needs to spend more time tending to the paying customers and less time forming a conga line and dancing around the restaurant. We understand that it is all in fun, BUT after you wait to get in, wait to get something to drink, and then wait for your server to stop dancing so you can get your food, or a refill, or anything for that matter, it tends to just get a little annoying after a while. The last time we were there, they danced around the restaurant 6 times. That's a little much! Great food though!
