House of Blues

Bar & Grill Restaurant in Barefoot Landing

House of Blues
Rated: 2.8 out of 5 with 53 Reviews

The first House of Blues opened in Cambridge, Mass., on Thanksgiving Day in 1992, generously feeding homeless people before opening their doors to the public. Although well known for its concert hall, the Myrtle Beach HOB's restaurant sports a relaxing, cozy atmosphere and the menu is noteably unique with their signature southern theme. Although often overshadowed by the popularity of the concerts and entertainers that perform at the House of Blues, the restaurant is entertaining as well, with a live jazz band, friendly staff, and Sunday Gospel brunches.

This was our first time at the HOB. Not what we expected. Almost looks like a hole in the wall but when you get inside, it is decorated quite nicely. The prices are OUTRAGEOUS. My brother got a salad and it was literally a quartered piece of lettuce, maybe 1/4 cup shredded cheese and 3 pieces of shrimp for $16. Drinks are outrageous. We had 5 o'clock reservations, got there 3 minutes until 5 and had to wait to be seated because 'our wait or hadn't showed up yet" and there were tons of tables open. Wings are not the wings we expected but the entire wing of the chicken. Won't be returning.

Had heard so many good things about the breakfast buffet at HOB we decided to finally try it. What a Disappointment! First - everything was cold except the omeletes that were made to order (however the chef did not wait long enough for the cheese to melt so you had hot omelette and cold cheese inside.) Very small selection - I wouldn't even call this a buffet. There was the following: scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, wedges of potato and very small waffles. The food was not great and as i said before everything was cold. Will not go back again.

We ate here at 7:00 pm on a Saturday night and were able to get a table immediately. Our server was awesome and the food was fanastic. I had the Pulled pork sandwich and my boyfriend had the mushroom penne and he was just in love with it. Great place to go :) Ask about the history of the bar... It is very interesting :)

i have to admit i was disappointed with my recent visit to the house of blues. I had heard great things and was excited, until we got there. we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated when the place was almost empty only about 15 customers. the lack of options on the menu was surprising, the kids menu did not come with a side, the mac and cheese for the toddler was down right gross... for not beign busy the waitress was not very accomodating, we had to flag her down repeatedly. I would NEVER recommend the House of Blues to my friends or family.. : (

We early for dinner that night it was about 4:30 - 5:00, we waited for a table for at least ten minutes, after being seated i looked around the place had five to eight tables filled. So we not sure why it took so long to get a table, first off. The waitness was nice when she did come to the table, our order took a very long time to arrive. the menu was very short not much to choose from, my husband ordered a side salad with his meal and got the house salad since i don't eat meat. when they brough out his salad i went ahead and started to eat his and told him i would spilt mine when it came. after waiting another 15 - 20 minutes she brought and your plates, my house salad was smaller than his side salad there was barely any tomates, carrots ect, i was very disappointed with the whole experience the price of the food was outrageous did not enjoy, it don't go there,

We had a party of 12 (5 adults, 7 children 12 and under). First off we had a coupon from resturant.com. Spend $100 get $50 off (spent 3.00 for the coupon). When we first sat down I noticed the childrens menu didn't offer a drink with the meal, so I looked up the price for the drinks...3 DOLLARS!!!!! Of course the kids wanted drinks NOT water, so we ordered. I was not happy about this. Granted we had a coupon, but we spent 25.00 on tea and sodas!! CRAZY!!!!! We had 3 drinks to spill during dinner, and the 2nd one I had to clean up myself! VERY RUDE!! So our children's drinks come out, and they charge same amout for children's cup (half the size of an adult drink). NOT FAIR!! how can you get away with that?????? seriously???? The dinner was ok?? NOT WORTH THE MONEY EVEN WITH COUPON!!! I got chicken breast which was tiny. We went once and we will NEVER GO back until they change the policy for drinks!! They are making a killing on drinks not only for resturant, but then it drives the ticket price so you have to leave more for a tip!! CRAZY!!!!

We just returned on Sunday (19th) after a four day mini-vacation in Myrtle Beach. Of all the eating establishments patronized, "THIS" was by far the worst both in palpability and cost for the amount of food received! My wife ordered the so-called "Catch of the day", which turned out to be Mahi Mahi. The portion was about three ounces of blackened fish with cajun seasoning, about four ounces of mashed potatoes, and approximately a dozen small florets of broccoli. The price affixed to this paltry serving turned out to be $20. The reason that I state it this way as to the cost was due to the fact that the cost wasn't listed of the menu. I ordered the Jumbo blackened shrimp served on a bed of alfredo fettuccine. I was charged $18 for five shrimp, which turned out to be large instead of jumbo. The fettuccine was totally devoid of alfredo sauce and instead contained some sort of sweet red sauce that did not fit well with either the shrimp or the pasta. We also ordered a house salad with bleu cheese dressing and were charged $3 each with no concession considering the high prices of the entrees. Even though we relayed our disappointment to our waiter, at no time did any one on management staff stop by our table to inquire about our meal or to address our concerns that had previously been expressed to our waiter. During the course of sitting and partaking of our meal, a manager did pass by our table two times and neither of the two times did he acknowledge and/or ask us about how our meal was or if we had any concerns pertaining to our meal. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know when someone has indeed been ripped off and we certainly were taken advantage of in that respect or lack of respect. We will not be recommending HOB to anyone, as a matter-of-fact we'll be doing quite the opposite and listing our experience(s) on some of the consumer blogs that we list on. I made several attempts to contact HOB "via" their web site and land line, all to no avail. They have a # listed in California, BUT, it rings and rings and no one answers. I even tried calling the # on the facility in Myrtle Beach and it goes to an announcement about events at said facility.

I wouldn't be able to review the food because we never came that far. I've worked in several restaurants waiting tables and I'm patient with servers, I understand that sometimes you have to wait for food, a table, a drink, etc. However, my mother and I watched as six (I counted) different servers passed us by without even a nod, greeting, or eye contact. While the lady who greeted us was friendly, we sat for nearly 20 minutes without anyone ever saying hello or attempting to take a drink order. I understand having an off day, but there was no excuse for this in a nearly dead dining room in the off season. The menu looked overpriced, at any rate. Save yourself a hassle and head somewhere else.

We were nervous about going to HOB after reading some of the reviews, but we really enjoyed ourselves! Got seated much faster than expect and the service was very nice, if a little slow. We tried the Mahi Mahi (fish of the day). BBQ was excellent, FOTD was...ok. After dinner we enjoyed a live band out on the deck. All in all a good experience.

Had a coupon for a free appetizer, and we got the Voodoo shrimp which was great. The Mushroom Penne was pretty good too, loved the gouda cheese. The atmosphere was nice but I really think it was overpriced. In the restrooms, both men and women, there was a person that wanted tips--kind of annoying. Overall, not bad.

We've been coming to NMB for 13+ years with the kids. HOB used to be one of the absolute must go to resturants. Over the years it has become shopworn and run down (yes I understand the point of the decor), but the food has consistently gone downhill too. Even the kids didn't want to go back. Until the place is spruced up a bit and the menu gets a makeover, we won't be back.

Whenever I go on vacation, I like to find a local church to go to on Sunday. This visit, my family and I decided to try the Sunday Gospel Brunch at The House of Blues. Can I tell you? We went to church. The group Glory was performing. The lead singer got everyone in the restaurant involved and it was a great time. Oh yeah, the food was outstanding. The buffet items were all made from scratch, that was obvious. I know home cooking and this was it! I would highly recommend House of Blues. It's now on my list of favorite restaurants to visit when in North Myrtle Beach!

Poor service ruins a meal! Arrived a 11:30 for lunch. We were one of 3 tables with customers. Our waitress told us that she sould be with us in a minute. 10 minutes to come back, 10 minutes to get a glass of tea. Everything took forever. She spent more time talking to the bartender than waiting on customers (I hope he tipped her more than I). This place is in need of a new manager......one who checks with the customers to see if everything is satisfactory. There were more staff present than customers, yet, service was pathetic.

this is one of those places where you walk away saying, you pay for the atmosphere because the food was just hmmm,ok.that's what this is.way cool decor but very overpriced food.the wait was about 10-15 mins,no biggie there.we ordered an appetizer of nachos that would of cost $10,but i had cut a coupon out of one of thos tourist books for a free appetizer,so it was free for me.it was good, but i don't think i would pay $10 for chips and cheese.our drinks came out in a plastic cup which was strange.i felt like i was at a picnic. the first thing we tried to order were told was all out of that day, which was strange for a restaurant to be out of a menu item..then the food came which was just ok but not worth the price and was actually not anything to write about.the ribs were good though because i did not have to pick them up . the meat just fell off with a fork, which was nice.other than that, the waitress was just ok but seemed like she was not enoying her day as much.the kids meals are pricey too at $6.95.i would not go here again.there was nothing really to go back for.but you you really want to try it for yourself go to restaurant.com to get a gift certifcate for $25 and only pay $5 for it.that way you want spend so much $$$.

We vacation in MB every year, this was our 4th visit to HOB. It will also be our last. We were waited on by a woefully undertrained waitress who didn't know one wine from another or even a light beer from a dark beer. She didn't tell us any of the specials; we had to overhear them from a waitress at an adjacent table (after we had already ordered, of course). We resorted to going to the bar ourselves for refills since she made very infrequent visits to our table. When I asked her if there were specials she said yes, but it was chaotic so she forgot to tell us.. It took our party of 7 over two hours to order and eat cheeseburgers. When we complained to the manager about the poor service he said "what do you expect, it's her third day" then got into further rudeness and insults when we suggested that maybe a drink should be comped. The burgers were fine, the waitress was pleasant enough on the rare occasions we saw her (and it's not her fault she was set loose without proper training), but the attitude of the manager was the worst I've ever seen. I thought Dick's Last Resort was the place you're supposed to go to be insulted. If there are 1000 restaurants in Myrtle Beach there are 999 I'll go to before I go back to HOB again.

The HOB is absolutely the best place to experience.what alot of people dont' understand is that there are alot of things going on there and is a very down to earth atmosphere. I highly recommend it to anyone. I recently ate in the restaurant there and attended a concert.I was very satisfied with my service and loved the food especially the cornbread and ribs(southern inspired menu). The value was pretty average and the staff was very friendly. I will definitely will be returning there to enjoy more of their delicious food and down to earth atmosphere. If you're a snob this place isnt for you.

I am typically easy to please at a restaurant but I have eaten at the HOB twice in the past six months and will never eat there again. We were meeting friends from up north who suggested we meet there. Typical of a "theme" restaurant the food is extremely overpriced and tasted terrible, I couldn't finish my meal. Worst meal I have had in a very long time. I should note it was not noisy nor did it take long to get seated, there were very few customers in the place. It was a sign that I should have noted.

We visited HOB for last Sunday's Gospel Buffet. The food was good but the music was much better. Buffet line went through the kitchen and wound back on itself, which was a bit annoying. Catfish and prime rib were the best, although the prime rib was not on par with finer restaurants. Selection was somewhat limited, especially for younger kids who are picky eaters. We would definitely go back, especially for the music and atmosphere, but if we were looking for great food, we'd probably look elsewhere.

We arrived with a group of 16 and yes, right in front of us, there was discussion between the manager and hostess as to "whether we made reservations". We hadn't and immediately were taken to a side room and seated. It should not have been a problem seating us as the dining rooms were all showing ample seating available. Food was great, prices a bit higher than other times, corn bread was hot and "to die for". Also bread pudding was a great topper for the meal.

Took the family to House of blues for breakfast this morning based on the recomendation from a hostest at another resturant the day before. I love breakfast buffets as I am really big on breakfast food. Heres the lowdown. The omelet station was the bomb. The fried red potatos delicious. The bacon crisp. The cheese grits ok.The biscuts were thin cold and lacked flavor. The grave is ok in small doeses but way to spicy to eat very much (the spices are just overpowering). Mini wafles were average. The only thing on the bar that I did not mention or try was the scrabled eggs (I had the omlet). Hostest was nice but very loud and when we ask to be seated the first thing she ask was if we was going to use a coupon (like that would effect our service) we said no and was seated about 10 minutes later.I took our waitress about 10 minutes to show up and take our order. We saw her one more time before she brought our bill (the place seemed understaffed). As for the buffet It contain few choices (all of which are mentioned above) and when we got to it everything was empty (only bacon and gravy was available). We had to stand there and wait around 10 minutes for it to be refilled before we got any food. All this said I will eat there again but only for the omlet station and the fried red potatoes. Price was $6.95 per adult and my 4 year old was free. My 6 year old was full price which sucks because she eats so little (one mini waffle and one strip of bacon). I would like to see something like kids 6-11 at a reduced rate and they should increase their number of selections.

The food here is great. I've ate at alot of the restaurants in Myrtle Beach and this is by far the best!!! I go here every time I make a shopping trip or go to a concert. It is a little expensive, but it is worth the money. I would definatly recommend this restaurant. And if you buy a certain meal you can be one of the first people in line at the concert!!!

Our 14 member family have been coming to HOB since it was open in Myrtle Beach. It was always a point of interest to come to every year. This year the rudeness from the waitresses to the management made us change our opinion and also made us decide never to come there again. The manager was so rude that we traded our gift cards for some items in the gift store and walked away discusted from the dinner. This started with the rude remark that we need to call ahead if we think we are going to be seated together. We didn't know that calling ahead was even possible. We pointed out several emty tables and he had an excuse for everything. At no point did he try to make accomidations.I think I know why it was so empty. The entire 1 hour that we waited, there was a table reserved for 14 that remained empty and was still empty when we walked out.I would say that his rudeness cost your company over $600.00 that we usually spend and that was just us.So,we just wanted you to know what type of employees that you have working there and good luck with your buisness! Luckily for us, there are many other places that are happy to take our money and actually appreciate our buisness there in Myrtle Beach.

We also went for dinner for ribs the ribs were very good, but 2 out of 5 of us had to send them back because 1 end of the ribs was cold, look for a buy one get one coupon in the Sunday newspaper.

Quality changes from visit to visit. The wife LOVES this place, The weekday breakfast buffet (which is VERY slim pickins) she goes ga-ga for. Because, they make killer omelets. Really, best on the Strand. Fluffy, good, great. The buffet (such as it is) usually $%$#. Last visit (about two weeks ago) the gravy for the biscuits and gravy was cold. The potatoes (home fries they called it, but were actually unpeeled sliced in half red skin potatoes) were literally almost raw. Were DEFINITELY completely cold. You know, they do not have hot plates or ANY kind of heating appliance (chafing dishes etc...) for the food that is on the buffet. That is against code, and I will drop a dime on the place on my next visit if I see it again. (not like they will go out of business, too much capital invested) So, cripes, shape up already... How hard is it to keep some lousy cheap food hot? Or are the fry cooks in the back who work the breakfast shift too busy yappin' up the talent? Other than the food, great place! Seriously, I am not making this up... Nice to walk around and ogle the paintings and deco.

After 15 minutes of waiting for our server, we decided to get started with our breakfast. All 4 of us were seated with our plates and the server still didn't arrive. After waiting another 10 minutes, my husband finally went to ask the hostess if we were going to be able to order drinks. Overall, the food was good. However, after the service received, HOB will not be a restaurant choice for the future. We'll stick to concerts....

The Gospel Brunch is excellent! We were there last week and loved it. We try to go every beach trip because it is a highlight of our vacation. Go early (about 9am) because last year we arrived later in the morning and the wait was too long for us. The group Glory leads the musical worship service. We enjoyed their music so much that we bought a CD. This brunch us the oportunity to have church while on vacation. My kids were clapping and singing along. Excellent buffet with something for everyone.

We had a party of 6 and we came right between sunday breakfast brunch and the dinner menu (2:30). We waited until 3 (which was also the shift change) and had to wait a long time to get our orders taken. We ordered the famous cornbread and 5 of the 6 liked it. The buffalo wings are HOT, the voodoo shrimp is HOT and the quesedillas are HOT. Overall we weren't too happy with our experience but the restaurant itself was kinda cool.

Four of us went for the Wed. Prime Rib with coupon buy one get one for 1 cent. Called ahead for 6:30, when we got there we were informed they were our of Prime Rib! this was the special how could they be out? The hostess said we could have buy one get one with anything on the menu. We decided to go ahead. When we were seated the waitress said buy one get one would be honored only if one was over $19.95, Since there were maybe 3 items over 19.95 and all a rip off as far as we could see we left. never ate there and never will. this we the end of January not in season.

I was a little disappointed with this version. I have been to the HOB before and saw a more expansive menu. The catfish nuggets are phenomenal; their beer selection is limited, no Dixie or Abita???? How can you not have traditional New Orleans Beers? Great shows; average everything else.

We're about to return to MB for a vacation, and certainly will NOT be returning to the HoB due to our previous experience. For a lunchtime meal, two conservative moms and four kids (under 10 yrs.) tallied a whopping $90+ for little more than basic fare. The kids' menu was on the kids' placemats, and did not include a price. We assume the kids' meals must've been $10 or so each...for individual pizza, chicken strips, etc....nothing extravagant. Kids' drinks must've been extra. I had pulled pork and sweet potato fries, and the other mom had shrimp-something. I was treating the group and didn't want to embarrass my mom-friend by making a fuss, but I went home and wrote a letter to HoB, and never received any response whatsoever. The lack of response to my respectful letter and receipt copy is unconscionable...true depth of poor management.

We visited H.O.B. during bike week in May 2007. We went there for a late lunch and sat at the bar. Inside was quite empty but outside was crowded with a band playing. First thing we noticed was even though there was 3 bartenders at the bar , the bar was sticky and had food scraps on it. Had to ask that they clean in front of us. We ordered burgers and they were pretty good but not cheap. At first I was dissapointed that they only had micro beers on tap but the one I had was one of the best micro brews I ever had. Overall the inside atmosphere wasn't that nice and unless we are going there to listen to a band we probably won't be back.

After begging my kids to go to the gospel brunch for 3 years' worth of vacations, they finally agreed this year (mother's day...they couldn't refuse). What a blast! the buffet is actually in the kitchen! it's chaotic and crazy, but the food was delicious, and the whole thing is fun. The live entertainment is terrific and my three kids (20,21,26) enjoyed it more than they anticipated. (they're not into gospel...well the fact that we're jewish could have something to do with it) everythng was yummy, and the biscuits are the best, hands down, i've ever tasted. The price is a little high, but after all, it's the experience you're paying for.

Saw the sign posted Breakfast Buffet 6.99 figured it would be OK. Waited 45 minutes to have a breakfast equal to that of the hotel we stayed at and the breakfast was free at the hotel! Well the hotel may have had a bigger variety.

Vistied many times, on the last visit which will probably be my last. my husband and I had dinner on November 11, 2006. I did not have my email available or I would have written immediately. Before ordereing we asked the waitress what vegatables came with the prime rib. She stated it would be white potatos and baked beans. Instead when our meal was delivered it was sweet potatos and vegatables medly. How wrong can one be. She never came back to ask us how our dinner was since she was too busy talking to the staff at the bar. Althoug it was early in the day, around 5:30pm, this is not excuse for poor service and bad food. There are too many good restaurants in Myrtle Beach to want to come back to poor service and being served the wrong thing. Very, very dissapointed loyal customer.

Everytime we visit Myrtle Beach we try to go to new restaurants. This visit was the HOB. Call ahead seating made the wait time short. Being located at Barefoot Landing we could browse shops prior to our wait. If you really want a treat try to eat around 8:30. Our two teenage children were treated to one set of the live house band while we finished our meal. The portions of food are large and the cost is average for any restaurant. Plenty of food selections to meet different appetities. I tried the Cajun Meatloaf which was very tasty. Not spicy! Great atmosphere. Fun Place. Definately a winner!

We just love the HOB Myrtle Beach. From when we walked in and were greeted by the hostess (Mary, great gal - people everywhere should take lessons in customer service from her!) to when we left, everything and everyone was perfect. Even with a limited menu, they have an excellent selection of salads, appetizers, and entrees.

HOB is a great place, and we enjoy eating there fairly often.
