Am home sick after eating at this restaurant. Food was cold, grits tasted like they came out of a box. Restaurant looked dirty and dated. I have been ill for over four hours and spent more than I normally would have spent. Go figure. I don't recommend eating here., I know I won't. Called restaurant to tell management, but there was an answering machine. Big surprise. ref: 27233

Worst food and the owner has a foul mouth was saying the F word heard him yelling at the cooks.Was there with my young children not nice to hear that kind of language when out to eat. ref: 26539

I grew up going to Akels with my family. We enjoyed the best home cooked breakfasts in a clean comfy atmosphere. Imagine my shock and dismay when I returned there after not going for several years and found things dirty, shabby and sad. Despite not being crowded it took a long time to get our food. We passed the time by watching a couple of bugs scurry around on the wall. When our meals finally arrived they were lukewarm and unimpressive. Sadly, another part of old Myrtle Beach dying off. ref: 24850

The breakfast would have been fine if they had good service..Our waitress was named Angelia Elmore and she was the WORST I have eveer had and I am 46 years old!...Very lazy with a awful attitude....I will never return as long as she is working there....I will tell others not to as long as she is there!...( the worst waitress EVER!) ref: 23138

One of the best breakfast's on the strand. Was here last Nov. and returned again, not to be disappointed. Was seated and served right away. I had eggs and bacon, both were cooked perfect and homefries are to die for. Friend had Gravy and biscuits (2). They filled the entire plate. Prices very reasonable and better then any chain restaurant. We will be making this place an annual stop for a great breakfast. Give em a try. They also have a great lunch menu. ref: 22751

If you want a truly good breakfast experience at the beach, then try this restaurant. The service is fast and friendly plus the prices are much more that reasonable. Try it, you'll like it! ref: 21333

I think this place needed a new review. It is a locals place and being such, has great food and service. My eggs and bacon were perfect. Endless coffee made it worthwhile. Even though its on Kings Highway, its a little hard to find, but its worth it. Much better food and service than most of the big chain places. Was our first time, but will be back in May 11 to enjoy a great breakfast again. BTW they have lunch also. ref: 21274

The first time we have had sub par breakfast ANYWHERE in Myrtle beach.The eggs were cold, not cooked to order and the bacon was spoiled. Service was poor even though no crowd. The cashier was down right snotty. Do yourself a favor and eat at Dennys

It was the only breakfast we went out to eat during the trip. Everyone liked what they had. Good sized portions. I had a country ham and cheese omelet which was satisfying, albeit the eggs were a bit hard. ref: 16412

My wife and I live in MB. We've been going to Akels about once a week for the past year since we moved to the north end. The food's always great. Service fast and courteous. I assume whatever was going on at the time that bad review was written by the other MB resident has been taken care of, because Akel's is really a nice and friendly place to go. ref: 15262

Reading these reviews one can only wonder if some have been deleted - since the new "management" has taken over this resturant has been taken off my favorite places - been eating here for years while Joe ran the place - now that these new people are here who state they are the owners BUT they arent they are leasing the place AS they LEASED the Plantation Pancake House - leased the business that is but I can see why noone will sell outright to them - who wants to hear the F word out of a owners mouth every other word or watch the kitchen staff and waitstaff make out in the corner - not to mention the girlfriend of the manager - she gives new meaning to meaness I do not think she has any previous business experince as when I brought up the employees sucking face in the restaurant her response was Oh well they aren't hurting anyone - no just your business I do hope the rumors are true that Joe is taking the place back before it gets the reputation it had when he tried to sell it a few years back - I for one will never go back while this management is there but this will get deleted as soon as someone sees it so not many will get to read this - I happen to know at least 2 others that have already been deleted ref: 10711

My eggs were cold, and stuffed on a plate along with 2 very large pancakes and meat. There wasn't any room to enjoy the difference in tastes of my meal, because it was all tossed together on too small of a plate. My waittress seemed to devote more time to eating and kissing the busboy than paying attention to her customers. The price we paid for this food was high compared to the service and quality of the food we got. We will never return. ref: 10645

Akels was listed in the "Best of the Beach" by local newspaper. Pick up a copy at Sun News on bypass 17 offices. We ordered omelttes and they were great and fast. Service was friendly and memorbilia on walls was fun and interesting. We'll be back! Thanks for a great time...... ref: 10016

Although the food is good, the dishes that the food is served on, as well as the decor, need an overhaul. It's time for the owners to step up and replace the dishes first, and then the decor. I would go again if the atmosphere wasn't such a turnoff. It can't cost too much to replace restaurant dishes. They really need to clean the place up and make Myrtle Beach proud. They have an excellent location.

Over the years so many changes have taken place in Myrtle Beach. With the exception of one, Akels restaurant. It is one of the reasons my family continues to return. Akels is a mainstay for many reasons. Great breakfasts with a real "down home" flavor from the employees to the local customers. For me, it's like coming home. ref: 701
