The Golden corral of seafood buffets. No, Golden corral is actually better. The only food that was even average was what they were able to steam as in crab legs craw fish and oysters.Every side dish, fried food, bread, other entree options, was either overcooked or so dry you couldn't even swallow it. Then to add insult to injury we found out that it cost $27.99 per person! Let me mention that the price is not listed anywhere on the menu or the marquee. So you have no idea that that's what you're paying for below standard food.

We come to MB approximately twice a year and only eat at Hook's. My entire family leaves fat and happy every time. The service is great and as many lobsters as we eat, the servers make sure we are never without. The atmosphere is pleasant too. As always, we will be back for the 4th of July weekend so look out, Hooks here we come. Get the butter all warmed up!

We go on vacation during Christmas vacation. Most seafood buffets are closed for the winter. Hooks is always open. We have gone 3 times and have always enjoyed the crab legs and other items on the bar. My mother in law loves the salmon. It's also near Broadway at the Beach, so we eat early dinner at Hooks at 4pm and then go to Broadway at the Beach for the evening. We love this place and will continue to go there. 5 stars from our family!!!

Went to Hooks 09-04-14 for our 19th anniversary. What a disappointment! We decided to have the All -you-can-eat lobster with the buffet. At $39.95 p/person with no coupon accepted, it seemed rather high but we decided to give it a shot. Each lobster (we had 2 each) that came out was boiled about 10 to long. There were as tough & rubbery as the next. The rest of the buffet did have a very appealing look to it, but their chefs should learn that SALT should be used only as a enhancement to a dish, not as one of the mail ingredients. We even spoke to a "manager" & his only comments were, sorry - I will look into it. Will never go back as on a scale from 1 - 10, I would rate this place as a 4.5

We went to this restaurant for a late dinner and ordered seafood platter and seafood salad. Our water J was very friendly. She informed us that that the restaurant couldn't get oysters for the long period of time and asked if it would be okay if they compensate oysters with shrimp. We agreed with the offer. Our food came out in about 15 min and looked very nice. I tried my fry and taste was very nice. To my deeply disappointment seafood in the salad were completely insipid and tasteless. The salad had no dressing at all. One side of the plate had so much pepper that I couldn't eat it. Mushrooms in the salad were old and also sliced at least day before. According to the menu my salad should have salmon, but the fish I got wasn't salmon at all. If I would guess it was mackerel. The seafood plate was better. At least fried shrimp were okay, but the fried fish was definitely way too dry. Another interesting fact. Did you ever heard that a restaurant of this size would not have their own website? Now you do. I guess, the owner either shame to himself and the business or doesn't care about either one of us. Now a question. Will you go to a restaurant if you would know ahead that neither one of your complains could reach the owner? Bottom line is unless there was not even the crumbs in your mouth for few days try to stay away from this place.

This place was a big rip off they advertise food they do not have went in 7-26-2013 at 5 pm they said they were out of steamed clams and had not been able to get oysters to fry for several weeks the two biggest items I was looking forward to the crab legs were cold so was the steak and soup when I mentioned not having these items they said it had to do with the bacteria levels in the water funny the noisy oyster a couple miles down the road did not have that problem two days earlier.

We eat their every year and this place is the best all you can eat seafood restaurant. Even if some of your party doesn't want lobster everything else is great & there is plenty of choices to choose from. Drive on by the 250 count menu item signs & stop at Hooks. Yes I will agree with the post about Boston Lobster Feast in FL, Hooks is better.

My family and I decided to try a new place for seafood. Wish we hadn't! This place was noisy and full of obese customers. We had the buffet and had to stand and wait on crab legs. I really wanted some fried scallops and thought i had gotten some but instead it was shrimp that happened to be labeled "scallops" on the buffet, The food just wasn't tasty to me or any of my family members. We actually got bored with the food and left. We ended up still hungry. It was just a bad experience all around. NEVER AGAIN!

We just ate there tonight specifically for the all you can eat lobster buffet. Never will we make that mistake again. First of all when you opened the lobster there was this nasty green gunk. Secondly it was cold. It was disgusting. The crab legs were OKAY, but that's the best I can say. Upon telling them we did not eat any of the lobster, because it was disgusting, the manager refused to let us pay only for a regular buffet, so we left no tip. They can give the waitress a tip out of the money for the lobster we did not eat. Actually we lost our appetites. NEVER AGAIN WILL WE EAT AT HOOKS. We do not recommend that anyone eat there. Anyone who thinks their food is good has never had quality seafood and I feel sorry for you. $94.00 for a horrible experience. We left a note for the manager on the back of the receipt to let him/her know exactly how we felt. Please do not eat at hooks. None of our friends or family will ever again and that's a pretty big network of people.

We came to MB for the first time at the end of October, 2011 and read some bad reviews of Hooks. We decided to try it anyway and WOW we were glad we did! We came back two nights in a row. We had the AYCE Lobster and felt that it was not only delicious, but fresh, hot and served promptly. All of the other food was great as well. We are going to be back to MB in the Spring and will definitely stop in to Hooks. We told all of our family about it and my sister goes to MB with her family twice a year, so they are anxious to check it out. Our service was also great and the restaurant was very clean.

THE BIGGEST RIP OFF!!!! Ate there with my mother and two children and feel that they surely curtail their "Market Price" for the buffet based on what is sitting at the table. The food was horrible, my 6 yr old daughter got sick that very evening after dining there and I would surely not recommend this establishment to absolutely no one!! That was by far the worst seafood I have ever tasted and have to agree with another comment I read about having better seafood at a fast seafood restaurant. All I have expressed here probably goes to explain why the place was not crowded, lots of empty tables!!!! No recommendations here on this restaurant, go splurge somewhere else for sure!!!!!

My husband and I visited this restaurant during our stay at Myrtle Beach and were hoping for some good seafood. This was some of the worst seafood I have ever eaten. The best thing on the buffet was the mac & cheese, which is pitiful for a seafood buffet. The shrimp was underdone, and just about everything else was overdone. It's pretty bad when seafood tastes like dry chicken. We complained to the manager who basically said it was our fault and walked away. It is extremely overpriced. I've had much better seafood at fast food seafood restaurants. Save your money and go elsewhere!

We were seated instantly upon arrival on a Thursday evening at approx 5:45pm. Our waitress was very attentive and concerned about our dinner service. We stepped up and paid for the All You Can Eat Lobster along with the A.U.C.E. buffet. If you are squeemish on cost do not order this our bill for 2 was $87.00....BUT and I say BUT...we got what we paid for.. The crab legs were all very hot, juicy and flavorfull. So flavorfull I didnt need butter. The Sweet potato fries were excellant and peel and eat shrimp were chilled perfectly. When the 1st 2 Lobsters came my wifes was not good. Remember this id a buffet, if there is something that isnt right tell somone. the waitress made things right and the subsequant lobsters, 9 in all, were to die for. OH SO GOOD. She kept pout iced teas full and then some. The desserts were wonderful. I tried the rib eye steak...just ok but remember ITS A SEAFOOD BUFFET. The clams were great and the soups were good too. This was our 2nd time there and we will go back.

We really appreciated your establishment. You are #1 in our books, as far as freshness, quality, quantity, service and the overall look of your restaurant. We have noted your sign "ALL YOU CAN EAT LOBSTER". We inquired and that his the reason we went in for dinner. I just couldn’t believe that we didn't have to wait for the lobster. First time here. We were driving down Hwy. 17 trying to decide where to go for dinner. Saw the sign, said, why not. Good decision. We have gone to another buffet up Hwy 17, like the place there. But for the money Hooks is good. We have definitely added another seafood place to our list. The waitress was great. The overall staff looked like they were enjoying themseleves. Food was good, selection was good.

We had a large group and were looking to go to a seafood buffet dinner without breaking the bank. This place isn't as large as a lot of the other big seafood buffets in town but I'd rather pay a little less and do without the extras like lobster or caviar. You can have a full lobster here for about $10 or $12 more but the crab legs that are included in the buffet price were quite sufficient. All of the food was very good. The fried clams and fried calamari were especially good. Every piece was tender. There is something for everyone. They had broiled selections like mahi and salmon for those that are health conscious. They also had steak and pulled pork which was also very good. We will definitely return here.

My family ate here during our vacation to Myrtle Beach recently because it had come very highly recommended. We won't be back! It was the worse food we had ever tried to eat. I am not sure where all the items were that they list that is supposedly on their buffet. It was not fresh food period. I had a piece of NY Strip steak that was like trying to eat leather and the seafood was very bland. The cost for all of us to eat was over $100....trust me find another place to go if you are up for seafood buffets this is not worth your time nor your money.

the hint is during my research online for a good place to eat seafood i went to restaurant.com .i wanted to save some money on my trip and eat well.i found a great deal on a gift certificate worth $50 and only paid $4 for it using th code they game me via email.i've used restaurant.com several times and it's a god send.after looking up others reviews of the restaurant,i decided to buy the certficate.and i was glad we did.it was very pricey even with the $50 certificate,it was $120 for 5 adults,2kids.that DID include tip though.so around $170 total for 7. the food was very good and great quality as well.not like some buffets where they just warm up a tray of frozen mac and cheese.you could watch the people cooking in the back and i could see the food was being hand dipped and fried and the vegetables were being hand cut.there was something for everyone.seafood,ribs,barbecue,chicken.whatever you desired.the desserts were great too.key lime pie, cheesecake, cookies and brownies of all types.not jusy the typical buffet desserts.it was very clean i noticed which suprised me since it was a buffet.our waitress was very friendly and talked to our kids alot.i would go early because it does get very buisy and there is a wait.fortunately we got there b/f the rush and did not have to wait at all.go before 5pm.

I would go again if I ever came back to Myrtle Beach. My husband is a big seafood lover even though I am not. He loved the crab legs and the large selection they had to offer. I pretty much had a lot of salad, corn on the cob and okra. The waitress was great and always stopped by to check on us. We went before 5 so got $8 off our total bill...make sure you take a coupon with you. We had two adult bars one child's bar ($4.95) 2 regular soft drinks and 2 beers and our total was $61.00.

This restaurant was recommended to me by my daughter who had visited there previously. Four members of our party of eight were sickened from the food. We basically narrowed this down to the shrimp on the salad bar as each sick person had consumed that. Also, there were no oysters available as advertised and the main reason I chose to eat at this restaurant. We were not informed that oysters were not available until after we began our salad or I would have most likely have left. If you choose to go to Hook's be prepared and bring along the Pepto. I for one will never eat at this establishment again.

A couple of bad reviews almost made me skip this kinda pricey buffet. Talked to some of the locals and decided to give it a shot. The food was excellent and surprisingly good quality for a buffet. I did not find a single item on the buffet that was "dried out" "overcooked," etc. Well worth the money and very clean as well. Will go back on my next trip.

We have eaten here before and were not impressed with our waitress. She always had an angry look on her face until a man that looked to be the manager would walk by and then she would turn on her happy face! Too funny! Anyways, we went back to eat there because the food is excellent. Our waitress this time was great! Cups were never empty, plates always there and our table was kept clean. She went above and beyond to make us happy. We have now told all of our friends to go their and ask for Michelle and to expect great food and great service! Thank goodness for a great comeback!

When we walked into the restaurant, the hostess was very kind. She walked us to the table immediately. Our waitress was named Tina. She was wonderful! She told us all the specials that were going on and she was very sociable! We ordered the Unlimited crab and buffet. It was $21.95 but when you use a coupon and get there before 5:00, the price changes to $17.95. We chowed. We definitely got our moneys worth. They also had meat there for people who didn't like seafood! This worked out perfectly with our group! The food was always hot and fresh! Its perfect for a group of people to go and have a wonderful seafood or meat meal!

My family came to eat supper at Hook's for the first time March 13, 2010. The food was excellent and so was our server. Pretty sure his name was Brad. He knew what we needed before we even had to ask. Our glasses were never empty and he kepy our table clean. He suggested the lobster special and we were so glad we took his advice. It was delicious! He was very curtiuos to our family and took special interest in my grandson. We've come to Myrtle Beach every year for vacation for the past 7 years and have never had such good seafood and service! I definately recommend this place to anyone looking to eat some good seafood, especially the lobster and crab legs! It's rare to get wonderful service and food at the same time. We'll definately be back next year. Hope to see Brad still there! If anyone reads this and decides to eat at Hook's, definately ask for Brad! You won't be sorry.

HOOKS CALABASH SEAFOOD in Myrtle Beach is the best seafood in Myrtle Beach.Me and my family had the best dining experience at HOOKS.Our server "JOSE" was a very well trained and his manners was awesome. The food was delicious and the crab legs were out of this world! Our server JOSE knew exactly what we need before we asked, it was like he could read our minds,we did not want for anything. The whole place was awesome. We noticed that when jose was not at somoeones table he was stirring food, sweeping up food that people dropped on the floor. JOSE really knew what he was doing. We really wanted to post this review, so that everyone would know to ask for JOSE if they visited HOOKS.If you are in Myrtle Beach stop bye Hooks and ask JOSE.

We have been eating at Hooks for 5 years. This year was horrible. We were there on 10-13-09 around 4:30pm to celebrate my husbands birthday with our son, daughter-in-law and 10 month old grandson.. The food was greasy and like it was left over and reheated. My daughter-in-law got sick and threw up. We got up and explained it to the gentleman at the door and our waitress and they were like o well.(Talking about bad customer service) We were in this restaurant for around 30 minutes. Never been so disappointed in my life. Don't mind paying $80.00 for a great meal but this was highway robbery. (We eat out 4-5 times a week so we know good food and service) Sorry we will not be back!! Went to the Conch Cafe in Garden City tonight and it was $70.00 and great!! We will go back there!!

My husband and I and our family of 10 visited Hooks on 10/09/2009. I would have to say that this is the place to go!! The food was AMAZING!! We have NEVER went to a buffet before where we got full service like we did at HOOKS!! Our waitress was a girl named WENDY!! And I will have to say that she is the BEST waitress I have ever had before!! She went above and beyond to take care of our family. We NEVER went without anything while we were there. We have been to so many places to eat and I would have to say that the service that we got at Hooks we OUT OF THIS WORLD!! Wendy should be the manager of this place! By the way she took care of us you would of thought that she owned this place. She would go and get us food from the kitchen that was just cooked and bring it out to our table. We heard a table next to ours that asked their waitress for some more crab legs because there were not any on the bar and their waitress told them that they would have to keep looking on the bar for them to come out. I thought that was rude because Wendy would go to the kitchen and bring us food. I heard the table next to us say that they wished that they would of got the waitress that we had because they had saw Wendy bring us out our food. I guess we really lucked up by getting Wendy to wait on our table!! I just hope that the owners of Hooks realize what a great and AMAZING person that they have working for them!!! We will go back to Hooks every time we are at Myrtle Beach!! I would suggest this restaurant to anyone as I do!! I tell everyone to make sure to go to Hook!! The only thing that I would have to say is to MAKE sure when u go there to ask for WENDY to wait on you if you want to be treated like you are not at a buffet place but treated like you are at a FULL SERVICE place!! We can't wait to go back to Hooks to eat great food but most importantly to see WENDY and get AMAZING service!!!

I took my family to Hook's last week and I must say that the food and service was exceptional. The only problem we had was that one of the waitresses children were running around the restaurant the whole time and being very obnoxious and disruptive. I took my family out to try and enjoy a nice relaxing and quite meal...but it was difficult with these kids running around. I don't understand why the manager would allow this to take place, but it doesn't seem like a very good business practice to me.

Being a local I know good seafood. This was okay nothing more, A party of 4 adults we got there at 4pm, the broiled fish was dry, the boiled shrimp were average. artifical crab meat on the buffet, people don't go to a seafood restaurant for artificial. Hooks just did not cut the mustard, the food was of poor quaility and the steak that my mom had was too tough. And to charge extra for the drinks is ridiculous. I will say service was excellent but that is about it

From the outside, I thought this would be a great place to take my fiancee. When we got inside, there were weren't many people inside and it took about fifteen minutes for anyone to even seat us. We had our drinks filled once. I love seafood and I was very disappointed with everything! The only good thing was the noise level.

02/07/2009 Ontario, Canada Went to Hooks based on all the good reviews. We found it to be the worst buffet ever! There was very little to choose from. The ribs and Chicken had thick bbq sauce smothered all over it. The crab legs were put out a few at a time, making it almost impossible to get any unless you were standing there when they put them out. I had to ask for scallops, the waiter then told me they were making them and they would come out, never did see any. The shrimps were not cleaned, disgusting. The desserts were nothing either. I heard several complaints from other people that were in the restaurant at this time. We will not ever go back to this restaurant.

We came down looking to get away from the Christmas craziness. Hooks was wonderful and even though most of the food is fried, it was well cooked. FYI I graduated culinary school and might be more familiar with proper cooking then other posters. The crab legs were unflavored, which is a mistake many restaurants make. Scallops, shrimp, and fried oysters were all a treat. The pulled pork was good but you had to do it yourself on the BBQ sauce.

I find that food may not be perfect, though Hooks was, if sevice is unparalleled then it can make up for any short comings. Our waitress became like family in our short visit. We shared stories and and felt incredibly well taken care of. We never went short of plates or had empty glasses. Our waitress bent over backward to not only take care of us but she also found an excuse to give us a better price on the dinner.

We went back two nights later and to our surprise our original waitresses husband was our waiter. We felt an even stronger family atmosphere because of this. He showed us his daughters pictures and his wife came over. The buffet supervisor turned out to have managed a steak house in our home town.

Hooks is one of the best seafood restaurant that we found on Myrtle Beach. (and we have tried many) The buffet had a huge selection of food and it was all very good. If you are looking for the white table cloth experience, then Hooks is not the place to go. Although we found it clean and the decor was as you would expect in a sea shore restaurant. It is easy to find, requires easy dress and all the food you could possibly eat plus the price was in line with other restaurants along the shore. You will go back to your condo well feed!!!!

We went to Hook's for dinner on Sunday, October 26, 2008. The wait staff was very friendly and did their job well. However, the food was very cold and over cooked. Letting the kitchen know this only seemed to make them angry, you can tell this because the kitchen is open and visible through the buffet of hot items, making the attitudes and actions of the kitchen staff visible as well. We finally got hot crab legs but they were cooked twice because they just took the ones off the buffet and put them back in the water to heat them up. (We can still see what they are doing) So needless to say, they were very over cooked. Once it was time for dessert I took myself and my son to get some, while there I had to call someone from the kitchen to get the ROACH off of the dessert buffet. They came out, removed the cake, got the roach, (with a towel that was hanging from their apron) and then, yes, they put the cake back on the bar. I thought I was going to be sick and went to the restroom. I asked the waitress for my check and the manager. First the manager said that they didn't have any roaches, when I asked him if he knew he had bugs. Then I told him that I had to get someone from the kitchen to get if off of the buffet. He said OHHH!!! We have them because it's cold outside (it was 69 degrees) and because it was a building. (HELLO) He had no reason for not taking the food off the dessert buffet, nor did he ever apologize he just said, here’s your bill, I only charged you half price. So, if you like over cooked food, eating your dessert with a side of roaches and a manager that could care less about his job or the people that eat there, I do not recommend eating at this restaurant any time soon if at all.

I have never had a worse meal that I had to pay for in my life. Everything I tried tasted horrible. Bland, tastless, overcooked or just plain lousy take your pick. Every plate the waitress removed from our table was full of food because nothing was even remotely any good. I am not fussy but at $25 a plate you would think something would have been OK. Not so. At one point I told my wife, who also thought the food was lousy, that I wasn't going to pay for this swill they call seafood. The only reason I left the money was because she didn't want to cause a scene. I have eaten many of the the foods provided by Hooks at other restaurants & have been very satisfied but this place is a joke. Hoping to salvage the night we decided that at least desert might make us feel better. Again not so. Tasteless garbage. I have never eaten pudding with absolutely no taste before but they have it at Hooks. The best part of the meal was our pop. Then to top it off after the rotten meal when you leave sales people ambush you in the parking lot to try and sell you time shares. Never go here if you want good quality or value. The funny thing is we went to Burro Loco, a mexican restaurant, and had our best meal of the week. After explaining to the waitress about our lousy luck with food she admitted that when she goes up north there is no comparrison. I dont know how this place survives with food this bad.

After discovering this buffet a few years ago, we don't bother going anywhere else. The selection is soooo fresh and the place just invites you to stay and eat until you think you have gone to seafood heaven.

Other buffets lure you in with "crab legs" only to charge extra once inside; Hook's does not have a surcharge of any kind.

While other "cold bars" consists of lettuce, toppings, etc., at Hooks it's always fresh cold and hot seafood and yummies.

Don't miss the oysters, scallops, blackened salmon, etc. besides the bountiful piles of freshly steamed snow crab!

Have been vacationing in MB for 15 years. Pretty much tried all the buffets. Hooks is by far the best. Atmosphere, food, service, all top notch. Have dined there the past 3 years, never had a bad experience. I loved the crablegs, all the seafood. My wife isn't a seafood lover, but she enjoys the crablegs and the prim rib. She is a very picky eater. For her to return to a restaurant several times speaks for itself. Try Hooks for yourself, you wil not be dissapointed.

Food was way overpriced. Crab cakes were like crunchy rocks of doom. Wait staff were not very nice, seemed vacuous.

It was our first visit to hook's. We thought the food was great. The waitresses were wonderful, very pleasant. It was a nice and enjoyable visit. We enjoyed the food as much as our waitress. (a.w.) we surely would go again.

Food quality is below average, dry, mostly deep fryed, and poorly prepared. The fish is dry and lacked any taste, the clam chowder was absolutely terrible, and the chicken wings were the worst I have ever tasted. I could not recommend this place to anyone. There are many better places with better food quality and value for your money.

An excellant restaurant for good food and seafood experience, crablegs great , good fish, and great sides. On the average a good nite out. Only one thing stood out, you could use a more mature host staff, friendlier and more interested in customers than some of the wait staff, overall though nice experience.

I had high hopes for Hook's. Really, I did. I wanted good Calabash seafood, but I didn't want to go to one of the over-hyped chains with all the flashing "tourist attraction" neon lights. Unfortunately, I probably would've been better off with one of the glitzy tourist traps.

The food at Hook's was ALL overcooked. The crab cakes looked (and tasted, alas) like hockey pucks. NOT appetizing. The grouper and flounder were cooked dry and lifeless. The stuffed grouper was almost as bad. Most of the rest of the seafood was just... bone dry and blah, if not outright awful.

What saves them from a 1-star rating: the hush puppies were FANTASTIC. The first batch of Calabash shrimp was very good (unfortunately, the next batch I tried was over-cooked, too crunchy, and rubbery). The fried oysters were good too, as well as the scallops. My wife enjoyed the macaroni and cheese.

Overall, it was generic seafood, marred by too many over-cooked options. Worse, market price was $20/plate. I'm more than willing to pay that or more for GOOD seafood. I'm not a picky eater, but I picked at my food. So our $50+ dinner was actually worth about $25, IMO.

Two major caveats: we visited Hook's at the end of the season, and it was about an hour before closing time. Still, it didn't live up to my expectations in any way. Not for the price, certainly.

Next time, I'll try the obvious tourist-trap seafood, and hope for something better. It couldn't get much worse.

We had heard about Hooks when we were leaving Myrlte Beach in January. Knowing that we were coming back in April. We knew that Hooks was on our agenda. It was truly off the hook. Everything was great. This restaurant was the only restaurant I have had crabs that were just perfect. They didn't taste like water. They were seasoned just right. My husband love the dungeness crabs. All the food was good, but the crabs were great. I have told everyone about hooks. The service was good, and I guess because it had not got to the busy season, there was no wait. We walked right in and was seated. We are going back in late July and hooks is definately on our agenda.

We found this restaurant in the guidebook. Didn't know what to expect, but did not expect much from a seafood buffet palce. Were we ever wrong! The food was very good, the service was unobtrusive and timely. All in all, an excellent meal for the price and circumstances. We will return in the future.

It is the best seafood buffet I have been to. My family had a great time eating crab legs. This will definitely be on our list of restaurants that we have to go to every time we visit Myrtle Beach.

Hooks is great! One of the few restaurants in Myrtle Beach where you can get broiled scallops and steamed clams. Totally awesome. Really good value for the money.

Finally! A restaurant where we got outstanding food at a reasonable price in Myrtle Beach! This is the place to go especially if you take advantage of the buy one-get one free coupon they place in the Sun newspaper.
