Review: We read a review by a world traveler who really gave Umberto's a poor rating. What was he thinking or tasting? My wife and I had an excellent meal with great service. I had the Zuppa deMare and she had the Veal FraDiavalo and both were very tasty. The sauce was not oily as can be the case for Zuppa and the marinara on my wife's side of pasta was light as it should be. To add, the meal was preceded with pasta fagioli and a tomato salad with vinegar and oil at no extra cost. We brought home much of our meal because of the large portions. We would recommend Umberto's without reservation.

Review: Folks, I have mixed emotions about this resturant. The quantity of the food was above average. My wife and I got way more food that we could eat. The quality of the food depends on your taste of food. I am from ohio and am use to the american version of Italian food. For example, instead of a salid with lettuce, they serve a bowl of tomatos with salid dressing on them. The bowl of tomatos is authentic Italian. However, I prefer a good old american salad with Italian dressing. The main course (in our case lasagna and chicken parm) tasted rather bland as compared to other Itialian resturants I have been to. The lasagna lacked true flavor as it mostly consisted of ricotta cheese and noddles. Yes, the ground beef and sauce where present. However, the ricotta and sauce over powered the dish. The chicken parm was big enough to server two people (the resturant will charge an extra $8.00 if you try to share a dinner). The chicken parm lacked any complex flavor. Basically what you would expect: fried chicken brest with cheese and sauce on it. However, I have had way better chicken parm at other resturants. The fllavor just wasn't there. To summarize, the quantity is excellent but the taste quality is not there. Not that the food is bad, just not what I expected or wanted. The total tab for us was $55.00. Our dinner included: 1 glass of house wine, chicken parm, lasanga, fried cheese appatizer and a glass of iced tea.

Review: Our family of four adults and one child dined here 8/23/07. The items that were brought out in the beginning were very good, however Mom and dad ordered the lasagna which they said was very bland hardly any meat and swimming in Ricotta cheese. I ordered the Chicken Marsalla it tasted like a bottle of wine was dumped over it. I had it replaced with the chicken Parm. My husband had a steak it was well prepared and excellent. The meats are their speciality I would say.

Now here is the BAD part.

Our service was average we left $7.00 which was sufficient our waiter was average to below.

Upon trying to exit the restaurant he met us at the door. The place was packed with people waiting for a table. He was furious shaking the money at us saying that if that was the best we could do we should have eaten at Mcdonald's. We tried to ignore him. He proceeded to chase us outside, yelling, calling us cheap, and said if he was'nt so busy he would take care of us. My 6 year old daughter was with us -- he was yelling obsenties. We refused to stoop to his level of a childish temper tantrum. We notified security and the officer returned to the restaurant with my dad and husband. They spoke with the General Manager she acted as if she was too busy to deal with the situation. Obviously this has happened before, and they feel as if it's ok to act this way. He was 30ish and bald.

Just a warning if you do decide to dine at Umberto's and he is your waiter you have been warned. There are way too many restaurants in Myrtle Beach to waste your time or money here. Try Carrabba's they are Excellent and treat you like a valued customer. Tips are given according to service - he was'nt worth the $7.00.

Review: My husband and I vacation in Myrtle Beach every year. About 17 years ago we found Umberto's and have enjoyed it each time we go. The food is great (World Traveller --notice I'm using the word great), and the service is wonderful.

I take offense to World Traveller as to the comment that the majority of people really don't know what great food is. Get over yourself, "World". Read the reviews---who really has the problem.

It's simple---try Umberto's---you'll go back.

Review: Just got back from Myrtle Beach. We love Umberto's and go every time we visit. To world traveler we are from Italy and this food was the best what I order every time I go is not on the menu and they have no problem making it. Maybe world traveler is CHEAP and just did not want to pay for thier bill. If every review is postive and thiers was negative that does that say. The magagement and staff are very friendly and nice.

Review: "World Traveller" needs to just go away. You can't please everyone. Sometimes, you just have to kick them out of your restaurant. The Umberto's owner and staff did themselves and the rest of us a favor when they booted WT and friend out onto the boardwalk.

This place is great. If you're looking for a nice, quiet atmosphere, this is not it. If you're looking for great food for a good price and you want to be in a lively atmosphere, look no further. The pork chops are unbelievable. They give you two and each of them are HUGE. You've never seen chops like these - trust me. I order them every year and vow I will finish both chops. After I get one down, it's usually time to wave the white flag.

The scampi is delicious. I usually get this when we visit the restaurant for the second time during our week-long stay at MB. If you ever see the grouper on the menu, I recommend that as well. It's usually a special dish, though, and not on the menu.

We've had nothing but great experiences with the wait staff. They are familiar with us now and usually treat us to something special at the conclusion of our dinner.

I can't say enough about Umberto's. I simply love the place and wish I could live there.

Review: Umberto's is a great Restaurant. Each year when my wife and I vacation in Myrtle Beach, we make one night an Umberto's night. I have dined all over the country and parts of the world, and I must say...to have great Italian Food in South Carolina...Umberto's is the Place. The service is exceptional; as well, as the food and atmosphere. If your in Myrtle Beach, you must visit Umberto's at Barefoot Landing.

Review: YOU MUST VISIT THIS RESTAURANT and ignore the comments from the "World Traveler"! To me, it says something that there are "rave" reviews from over thirty people and only one negative review. I definitely would go with the majority on this! We have visited this restaurant many times and never come away disappointed. I agree with the one reviewer that the "World Traveler" is just the type of person that needs to complain. Don't take that advise - make this a "must do" on every visit to the Myrtle Beach area. You'll be thrilled!!!

Review: Our golf trip is now in its 15th year. Umbertos has been a part of our trip every year. The whole experience is awesome. We have the same server all of the time and Tommy is second to none. The owner Bob makes us feel like family. If you are reading this and have never been to Umbertos, you are truley missing out on a great dinning experince.

Review: Every time that we visit Myrtle our family, all 17 of us, make it a point to dine at Umberto's. Although the number of our party is unusually big, they are able to seat us quickly. The food is great and the apetizers are fantastic. Dessert, I don't know, I am way to satisfied from the meal!! Umberto's is a "Must Visit" whenever you are even near Myrtle.

Review: Umberto's is a true treasure. The Shrimp Scampi is fantastic. I read all the reviews prior to writing mine and have to say, I hope World Traveler never goes back to Umberto's--leaves more for the rest of us who appreciate good food, good service, and an enjoyable time. We've been going to Umberto's for 9 years and have never had a bad experience. When my students ask what my favorite restaurant is, I'm proud to say Umberto's!

Review: I think that we've been going to Umbertos ever since it opened. The food and atmosphere are unbeatable and I've eaten at many many places. Tomato and pepper salad with italian bread always great. And the best thing is everyone seems without exception to be totally enjoying themselves in a great atmosphere.

Review: I read the review from the individual who said they are a "world" traveler. I to have been to Italy numerous times and granted the food is wonderful Umberto's is much closer and alot easier to get to. My family and I ate there and loved it. On another trip we tried a different resturant that was praised by some of the locals. When asked if they had enjoyed Umberto's they said no. Well after trying the others we are back at Umberto's, for good. The waiter we had was wonderful. The food was wonderful and the dollar value for the amount of food was excellent. I am a firm believer that this is one of the better resturants in Myrtle Beach and a must go to if you like Italian food. Portions are excellent and are plated wonderfully.

Review: The food is great, the service is great considering the constant demand of the non stop crowds, the atmosphere is great ,my style. Its always worth the wait for dinner here. The food prices are a dab higher than the average, but made up in proportion sizes. My golf buddies always says umbertos is a must while we are in town, and it is,and has been for many years, and will continue as long as myrtle beach has golf courses. Chickengeorge folcroft pa. Review: Our group golfs yearly in and around Myrtle, Umberto's is a tradition for us. I have difficulty giving excellent marks for anything, but this restaurant is right up there. The food is great, portions are large. Reading through the reviews, I don't see any comments about their stuffed peppers. They're unbelieveable, I highly recommend a taste.

Review: Veal chops and pork chops to die for. Dinner served family style with salad, pasta and soup to start. Come VERY hungry. My family and I consider dinner at Umberto's a must whenever we are in Myrtle Beach. Service is great. Sometimes the constant Sinatra is a but much, however.

Review: Umberto's....one word to discribe it...GREAT!!!!! We have been going there to eat for many, many years. We did not make it down last year and we are having Umberto's withdrawal. But....look out this coming July '07. We will be there. Their menu is excellent... the pasta fagioli and their fresh tomato salad and the BREAD!!!!. Not to leave out their main dishes...like pork chops, chicken parm are our favorites. My husband and I share a meal and by the time the main course comes we are totally filled. They are very generous with all their servings. The only thing we miss is the tortelinni soup. For some reason they did away with it. Miss it. But...does not stop us from going there. You will not be sorry if you go there to eat.

Review: Umbertos....superb. We go there every time we vacation in Myrtle Beach. We did not make it down last year and we are having Umbertos withdrawal. I am Italian and consider myself a good cook....but...I can not compare to Umbertos. The Pasta fagioli and the fresh tomato salad...excellent, as is everything else on the menu. We have had it all....everything thru the years. The one thing we miss is the tortellini soup. They did away with that. Miss it!!!! We are coming down in July 07....can't wait.It is noisy but that makes it just like HOME!!!!

Review: We visit Umberto's each trip to Myrtle Beach (at least once a visit). THIS is the highlight of our trip. We have tried almost everything on the menu and have never had a bad meal. During our last visit, we had a party of 10 for dinner. We waited for only about 10 minutes for our table. Everyone from the person at the door to the bus boy was very cordial and our waiter was wonderful. The "noise" in the restaurant reminds me of a big Italian dinner with everyone enjoying each others company. It's great.

If you go to Umberto's you must go hungry. There is always more than enough to eat. My husband was so happy with his meal, he almost cried. (He gets emotional about food!) Don't forget to try dessert - Nina's Surprise! It is wonderful and large enough to share with everyone.

Review: Glad I read these reviews. There is NEVER any reason for the management to mistreat customers and yell at them. Just politely ask them to leave. And with so many other restaurant choices, why support one with this kind of management. We haven't been in 3-4 years but at that time this was an average restaurant.

Review: Well in my opinion, MR. WORLD TRAVELER has a real bad attitude and probably wanted a free meal for his/her party. I was just there recently with a large group (60+ people). Everyone really enjoyed the food. Our waiter (John) was fabulous. As with any food, there are regions in Italy and cooking is different in each one. I know. I learned to cook from real Italians from Upstate New York. Not all dishes taste the same. I will certainly return to Umberto's and will recommend to anyone.

Review: My wife and I ate at Umberto's on 9/26. I had ordered the Spaghetti w/ Calamari, my wife had the Breaded Pork Chops.

Both meals were tasty and prepared to our liking. The service was very good, as were the unique appetizer and salads served with your meal.

We will definitely make it back to Umberto's on our next trip to Myrtle Beach

Review: As a Myrtle Beach local, originally from New Jersey, I have frequented Umberto's many times and have always thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I must however comment on the previous person's review. I used to wait tables and people like that (typically) are miserable from the second they sit down and make everyone else around them feel just same! Bravo for everyone else's true remarks as the food, service& atmosphere are always fantastic!

Review: My review of Umberto's will be in stark contrast to all the others as our experience was absolutely horrible! I am a world traveler and obviously have been spoiled by Real Italian food, in Milan, Venice and Florence, Italy, New York, Chicago, etc. In my communications with the manager "owner" (daddy's restaurant so she has no people skills), I said it must be "my fault" as I am a food snob. She ended up yelling at me AT MY TABLE that she wasn't going to comp any of my bill as I had expressed rather explicitly my deep disappointment of their food. The waiter did NOTHING to make us happy; perhaps the waitstaff is not empowered by mgmt to do so. BEWARE KOSHER and Vegetarian diners: the bean and pasta part of your meal is brewed in PORK BROTH! Which they don't tell you, and there apparently is no subsititute according to our waiter. The chicken marsala was made with a pound of sugar and was the worst I have ever had, though the chicken was tender as it should have been. My world-traveler dining partner from NY said my marsala was too sweet and thought her chicken parm was a not so great "6.5 out of 10", it still faired better than my dish. My tea was never re-filled. When asked how everything was, our duet-reply was "eh", "okay", "marginal". Our waiter said NOTHING and kept going, did nothing AT ALL to make us happy.

Completely, absolutely dissatisfied with service and mgmt, we left as soon as possible. Would you believe that as we left, the immature manager yelled at us to get out of her restaurant????? AND to top it off the waiter came after me and yelled CHEAP BITCH because I gave him a well-deserved 10% tip???????

DO NOT GO UMBERTO's if you value Good Food and Good Service (notice I'm not even saying great). I don't understand how these other people had such flowery experiences. Maybe their checks were compensated for lousy dinners or maybe it's because the vast majority of people really DON'T know what GREAT food is.

Review: Umberto's compares favorably with any Italian restaurant I have been to in the NYC metro-area. The menu choices and food preparation are outstanding along with the wait staff and service. I have made a point of stopping here for a meal for the past 6 years and always recommend it to others. I would love to see Umberto's open in one of Atlantic City's Casinos while they are trying to make A.C. on scale with Las Vegas. It would definitly give Carmines which is located in the Tropicana Hotel/Casino some heavy competition. Neither pricey nor pretentious. Will be returning soon

Review: Whenever we go to Myrtle Beach we are sure to stop at Umberto's for a fabulous Italian dinner. My favorite is the plum tomato salad. To die for, the tomato's are so fresh!!!! I dream about this salad all winter and can't wait to get there the next summer.

I would highly recommend this resturant to anyone who enjoys great Italian food. It compares to Carmine's in Manhattan.

Review: I come from an Italian area in New Jersey that is loaded with Italian restaurants pretty much on every corner in my neighborhood. When I went down south, I thought there would be very few good Italian restaurants, but I was fooled, I stepped into Umberto's and felt right at home. Any time I travel down south now, I will make it a point to eat at Umberto's. It is by far one of the best I have been to including places in New York, New Jersey, and Philly. I would recommend if you are down in the Myrtle Beach area, make it a point to stop in and I bet you will be back!!!

The pork chops are the most tasty and large chops I have ever seen! Along with your meal you also receive tomato salads and pasta fagioli. Review: I agree with everyone who says - THE BEST meal in Myrtle Beach! Both locations. Their Osso Buco is the best I've eaten anywhere in the US, Italy and several other countries so far! But everything on the whole menu is fantastic - I love to pick from my family's plates! The service has been 5-star each time I've eaten there, as well. Makes you feel like you're getting a meal that costs two or three times as much!

Bottom line - if I can only eat in one restaurant while visiting my parents in Myrtle Beach, there's no question where: Umberto's!

Review: Umberto's was a great surprise. Not only fabulous value for money, but they served the biggest pork and lamb chop I've ever seen!

We had to doggy box almost our entire entree because we were just about full on the extras that are included with every meal.

I would highly recommend this restaurant...and a big hug and welcoming smile from the host, whom we had never met before, was an added treat!

A great night out..thank you Umbertos!

Review: Umberto's is a must experience when visiting the beach. From the time you walk in until you leave you are treated like family. The food is superb, each course gets better and better, then the main entree arrives, mmm good. The waiters and bus boys really keep things moving. A great way to end a great day.

Review: Want to be treated like a king and queen? Then go to Umberto's for a meal. You will get treated like royalty with great food, service, and atmosphere but you don't have to be rich to afford the great time that you will have. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a meal!!!

Review: WOW!!! This is fantastic. We save Umberto's for celebrating special occasions. The food is superb!! The portions are unbelievable! We vacation in Surfside Beach, but it's worth the trip to Barefoot Landing for this restaurant!!

Review: One of the main reasons we go to Myrtle Beach! We absolutely love Umberto's. The grouper is wonderful as are the pork chops! It by no means is a quiet restaurant but that is all part of the ambience.

Review: Best food in Myrtle Beach, I go there every year when I am at Myrtle Beach. Try and save room for dessert but it is not easy with the amount of food you get.
