Review: When in MB, my wife and I always try to make it to the library. For many years, through different owners it has always been top quality fine dining. The dishes are varied and well prepared. The owner is usually around to make sure everything is to your liking and to make you feel at home. The location is tough and I understand they will be moving soon to a new location. I hope they make it plain how to find them and do nothing to change the ambience or food.

Review: Another couple and my wife and I had picked out the Library as one of the purported good restaurants we wanted to try during our winter stay here in the Myrtle Beach area. In fact it was the first one on our list because of a write up we saw in the Sun last year.
Our experience was very good - the service was impecable, the food was excellant, and the wine recommendations from our waiter exceeded our expectations. All in all we had a great experience and a very enjoyable evening. We'll be back!

Review: If you are looking for the best dining experience in Myrtle Beach, you have found it. I have taken my wife here 4 times this year. I would go every month if I could afford it. It's expensive, but there is no compromise on quality. Waiters in tuxedos (ask for Danny or Shane). The owner cooks, and his She-Crab soup is the best soup I've ever consumed. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Review: Have been going here for years and it remains the best restaurant in the area. Dover sole is excellent as are all the beef entree's. In fact I think my wife and I have tried everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Even the sweetbreads which you can only get at a restaurant of this caliber.
Treat yourself and try it once and you will be hooked.

Review: Many meals prepared tableside. We loved the appetizers: Escargot and Steak Tartare and made a meal out of them. Great Ceasar Salad prepared at tableside. Great Sorbet. Try going on Fridays as they have live entertainment and the guitar player/singer is tremendous. Dinner can be expensive.

Review: My wife and I went to the Library last night for our 1 year wedding anniversary. I called ahead and requested the "wine cellar" room which is one of the three private rooms, but the most intimate, that the restaurant offers. From the moment we arrived to the end of our meal we were waited on with exquisite attention to detail. Our table was the perfect romantic atmosphere of dim lighting, candles, soft music, privacy and of course great food. While I agree that the staff can be a little too attentive at first, we were given ample time to enjoy a relaxing three course meal without any pressure.
The French Onion soup was amazing, the beef tenderloins perfect, and our steaks (Steak Diane, and Pepper Steak) were some of the best we have ever eaten. It was very obvious that Shad takes great pride in his cooking everytime we took a bite. The wine selection was a bit overwhelming but we were guided through some suggestions. This was done without directing us to the most expensive but to the ones that would fit our meal the most. The price ended up being a little high so I would not eat here except for a special occasion but we do believe it was worth every penny. When you go, do not be fooled by the exterior, or location you will enjoy your meal and the service here more than any other place in the area.

Review: I'll admit I am a big penny pincher, but I do like to splurge every once in a while. We took a trip to Myrtle Beach and found this place on a whim. As far as splurges go this was the JACKPOT! Yes it is pricey, but it is well worth it! I have been telling everyone about this restaurant since my wife and I have been there as the best dining experience of all our trips to Myrtle Beach and would go back again without a doubt. Excellent wine selections, the food was cooked in front of us exactly as ordered, and the service was extremely pleasant.

Review: My wife and I had dinner there two nights ago and it was absolutely fantastic. She commented that the service was the best she has had in over 20 years! Food was outstanding and the wine that was recommended was superb. A bit pricey but well worth it. Go there! You will have a wonderful experience. Thanks to Shane and Chad! They did a great job!

Review: After glowing recommendations from trusted friends, we tried The Library. We were sadly disappointed.
FOOD: The food was definitely average, with the house salad being particularly awful. (Guess the best romaine leaves were reserved for the tableside Caesar.) Our Steak Diane, a tableside creation, though cooked to our liking, was lurking somewhere under a shroud of thick, gray gunk that resembled (dare I say it?) library paste. The "Presentation of the Vegetables" made us feel as though we were hostage to the kitchen: if we opted to forgo the "veggie surcharge", our plates would be naked (except for the steak and library paste). When we mentioned this to the hostess, she got flustered and huffy and suggested that we try The Thoroughbred Restaurant because that restaurant also charges extra for veggies. Last week we did, and they didn't. The desserts were trite and time-worn tableside preparations. La Caravelle in NYC closed because it couldn't move on from Bananas Foster, Cherries Jubilee, and Crepe Suzette, but apparently that kind of staid, predictable, obsolete dessert assortment is prized in Calabash Country.
ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere of the restaurant was annoying: tiny high-intensity ceiling spots and nearly-spent pillar candles don't make for a romantic experience or for enough light to read the cheesey, self-consciously cutesy menu, a tightly-rolled single sheet of paper which wouldn't stay unrolled long enough for us to read it. Background music was straight from the Easy Listening Spot on Your Radio Dial, or maybe it was CDs. It was the same kind of stuff you hear in elevators or dental offices.
SERVICE/NOISE LEVEL. Let's not forget to mention the hovering and aggressively intrusive service, always presented loud enough for every other diner in the place to hear it. Everything from the chilled salad fork to the soup spoons presented on a napkin-covered plate rather than from the waiter's own hand (wait a minute-- how did the spoons get on the napkin-covered plate in the first place?) to the pompous, overbearing, pretentious and yet strangely fawning chatter ("I'd like you to take a moment to take a sip of this to see if it's something you would be interested in" came with a glass of Merlot) to the very over-priced menu all added up to an evening to remember, but not in a favorable way. At least it gave us a lot to laugh about on the way home.

Review: My wife and I were there in 1996 and we are going back to the area for the first time since and are we glad they are still open for bussiness. We have been all over hawaii, fla ,east coast west coast and always try to find the premier resturants to have dinners. In 15 yrs this is still my wifes fave. Mine princeville hotel on kuaii outside looking over the ocean..

Review: My husband and I went to The Library for our 10th year wedding anniversary. We were not disappointed. It was the most wonderful experience we have had at any restaurant. It was well worth the price. Our server, Chris was the best. The blueberry martini was the best ever. My husband ordered the Steak Diane and it was the best steak he has eaten. We would go again on any special occasion.

Review: Finally ate dinner at the Library. There was a slight musty smell in the air throughout the restaurant. I liked the aged decor however, the bookshelves (hence "The Library") were covered in brown paint which kills the whole Library atmosphere. ***TIP: Stain the wood for a classy, warm and romantic finish! I found the service and food to be just "good". The wait staff tries much too hard when discussing the menu. When I ask the waiter "how is the grouper this evening", I expect to hear one of two things; either "the grouper is wonderful, excellent choice" or "the grouper if very good, but perhaps you might enjoy our lovely salmon this evening". The wait staff will know first hand which dish is preferred or which is most fresh. At the Library, every meal is described from beginning to end (ex., list of ingredients, where the meat/fish comes from, how the dish is cooked and prepared). I found this to be a bit too much and kind of annoying. I don't need a whole song and dance routine. Menu pricing already indicates premium quality and preparation. Would rather enjoy my meal, the company of others, warm atmosphere, and light conversation with wait staff over the sit down cooking class experience provided. Not sure if I will return.

Review: OMG!!! This is the most romantic place in Myrtle Beach BY FAR!!! I took my girlfriend there and proposed marriage! The owner (Shad), and the staff were aware of my intentions and were very accommodating to my special plan. There was live romantic music from a wonderful performer playing on his acoustic guitar. They owner and staff were very meticulous to detail in every aspect of quality and service. One of the staff even offered his hand to my fiancé as she was goin down two steps to the ladies room. I was impressed, and recommend this resturant to any couple looking for the romantic ambience and quality service only found in upscale restaurants. Reserve time for your meal, and make reservations.

Review: We visited The Library after reading about it in a guide to Myrtle Beach-type book that was given to us as a gift. We went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and enjoyed the entire evening. The owners and staff are very attentive! From the wonderful cocktails that Misty prepared and several visits from Shad (the owners), to the outstanding menu, flawless tableside service and excellent Ceasar and Steak Diane preparation by our waitress Jessica, and after dinner cordials and dessert - it was a Five Star experience. The escargot and shrimp bisque and double lobster tails should not be missed. We loved it and will be back!!

Review: My husband and I went to the Library for our anniversary after reading the wonderful reviews on this site. I have to say it truly lived up to our expectations. The atmosphere was charming and our waiters were always courteous. The most pleasant surprize for us was the amount of non-alcoholic drinks available...including non-alc wine and the smoothies. I had a wonderful non-alc wine and my husband had the blueberry smoothie which was to die for (we want the recipe!). The food was delicious as well. We have dined in many fine establishments and were not disappointed by this restaurant. Worth the trip!

Review: This is my favorite MB place - no question. Always eat there at least once on my golf trips. I don't tell people about it since I want to keep it to myself, but that won't last long. It is more of a "special" occasion place, but worth an evening. And, please don't rush dinner - this is not a fast food diner.
Lamb is excellent, but the seafood is always terrific. Salads are super. I am not a soup person, but my golfer friends loved their soup selections.

Review: Big disappointment. The presentation was fine but it went downhill from then. The rack of lamb was greasy; the chicken with mushrooms and artichokes was very plain. The Steak Diane was OK. After we finished our main course we had to wait about 15 minutes to get our plates cleared even though the restarurant was empty (4 tables) and there were 2 waiters. Then we had to wait 10 minutes for the desert list by which time we were ready to leave. I have lived in New York,San Francisco and Paris and this one surely does not come close.

Review: Based on the facade, we would not have dined at The Library without a stong referral, but we were glad we did. It's a small, quaint little place with excellent food and service. The table side service adds to the uniqueness. Everything from the escargot appetizer, table side Ceasar, surf & turf, and the flaming Cherries Jubilee were delicious. Our server, Jessi, was fantastic and made our dining experience even more special. Though a little pricey, we strongly recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting again in the future.

Review: When I die and go to heaven, this is where I will eat dinner every night. I ate here once in the '70's and I've never forgotten it. I had a French white asparagus appetizer, butterflied filet moutarde, and a glass of Harvey's Bristol Cream for dessert, with coffee. Also enjoyed several glasses of a wonderful Chateauneuf-du-Pape with my meal. Excellent. The atmosphere is quiet and elegant, and the service was impeccable. My husband and I were with three other couples, and everyone simply raved for days afterward. I haven't been back since I moved into the area, but I keep promising myself the treat.

Review: This is probably the premiere upscale restauarant in Myrtle Beach. The good news is that there's plenty attention to detail, a low-key, superb atmosphere, excellent service and very good food. The bad news is that this is no doubt the most expensive restaurant on the strand. Also, they should expand their menu somewhat. You're going to have a very good experience here, and you're going to eat very good food. But you're going to pay for it. If it's your first time, you may want to take just your companion. And even that, on average, will run you $110-150. And that's not even ordering a bottle of wine.

Review: I adore this restaurant. My husband brought me here for my birthday this year and we were both pleasantly surprised. Having eaten many a meal in some of the finest restaurants in Manhattan, New York, I was not expecting to be so amazed by the food.
We started with the french onion soup which was fantastic, then moved on to the Filet Oscar which was perfectly prepared, ala carte vegatables and to finish the night... Cherries Jubilee which was prepared table side.
As we were having our dessert, a waiter at another table began preparing Seak Diane. This will be my next choice when I return to this hidden but fabulous jewel of a restaurant, as the aroma of it's preparation made both I and my husband believe we might still be hungry!!!
It is pricey, but worth every penny! Don't miss this one.

Review: WOW!! If someone had not recommended the Library to us we never would have visited due to the exterior being a little dated.
The service is the finest we have had in Myrtle Beach. Wait staff is extremely knowledgable about how items are prepared and possibly over attentive. In addition, both of the owners took time to visit with us and answer our questions.
Don't forget to order the caesar salad and sample the dessert menu. The wine list was extensive and not too pricey. This is definitely a dining experience restaurant. However, I would not hesitate to come here for a regular Saturday night dinner as opposed to waiting for a special occassion.
We can't wait for our return to the area to schedule our next visit.

Their fresh vegetables, exquisite table side Caesar Salad, and wonderful entrees are the peak expression of delightful cuisine in a town loaded with good restaurants. The waiters are friendly and highly skilled, and the old world charm of the restaurant’s atmosphere makes it a unique presence in downtown Myrtle. Review: Based on its location and facade, I never considered dining here until friends insisted.....and, I was missing out.
An initial impression of tight confines and dated decor quickly yields to a sense of intimacy and charm. Presbyopics - bring your reading glasses!
The attentive and knowledgeable staff skillfully craft a comprehensive dining experience. Table-side preparation of Caesar Salad, Steak Diane, and flambe desserts may be the best show in town!
I regard this to be an ideal "special occasion" restaurant. You'll savor the pampering as much as the delectable fare.

Review: I decided on The Library for my birthday dinner after reading reviews which praised it.
Right away I had doubts when I discovered the menu rolled up on my plate and looking like faux parchment. The room was so dark I couldn't read it and it kept rolling up anyway.
The waiter, who was very, very friendly was so omni-present that I felt we should have pulled up a chair for him.
The food was okay but the price was outrageous!! The sauces were way too thick and obvious.
The Library made me feel like turing in my card!

Review: I have been coming to Myrtle Beach since I was a baby and finally I got the chance to try this restaurant. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and he, who always has criticism for his meals, was completely impressed with one of the specials. Although I've never been a huge seafood fan, I couldn't get over the she-crab soup- it melted in my mouth. Lighting was somewhat dim, the host was slightly too attentive for my taste, and we did have to wait for the check for too long (because our server, who was extremely pleasant, had too many things going on at once), but all in all a wonderful meal for a special occasion.
