I have been to every seafood restaurant in Myrtle Beach and Stevens has the very best Calabash style seafood in the entire grand strand. Service is not great, atmosphere is OK, owner is a cranky old lady.....but the food is FANTASTIC!

My husband and I decided to try Steven's Oyster Roast June 30 . We had been told by a friend how wonderful the food was there . We arrived and were told to "Just have a seat anywhere." The parking lot being empty , should have been a dead give away . We ordered two seafood platters . The batter in which they fried the fish in wasn't done and so when you took a bite , it was soggy . The fish had a very fishy flavor and they were very watery . The person who was working the cash register kept watching us as we ate . She also was smoking and trying to hide her cigarette as she smoked . We had a young child take our bill and ran our debit card , wow how professional was that ! This place may be where all the locals go , but it would be worth a little further drive down to Calabash .

We had an EXCELLENT experience! We Will return. The food was awesome. (7 in our party and everyone ordered the seafood platter which included scallops, shrimp, flounder, oysters and an incredible stuffed crab... we ordered broiled but they seemed to be steamed... STILL, the food was EXCELLENT). The ONLY negative was the fact that they make it impossible to tip via credit card. They had a sign posted near the register that we noticed while waiting for our food... "Please tip your server with cash... our credit card machine will accept the total for your meal only". My wife asked the cashier if we could simply add the tip to our total bill for our meal, and she was told "no, the tickets must match each order at the end of each evening". (The service received was superb and we wanted to tip accordingly). Why make it impossible to tip the staff?? I can add a tip via credit card at my local barber shop!

We love this place. Everything we ordered was excellent. I ordered the hamberger steak and my wife ordered the combination of Flounder and Deviled Crab. The hushpuppies were also great, however we wished they had given us more. I miss the glass bottle cokes they use to serve. We always visit this place when we come down.

We have been coming down to Myrtle Beach at least for one week since 1951. Needless to say we have dined at many of the area restaurants up and down the Grand Strand and Calabash. We just found Steven's three years ago and have been delighted to make the discovery. For me they have the best flounder yet. We make it a point to eat here several times each year and in between as we do come down several times a year.

My family and I selected Steven's based on the positive reviews from this site. Sadly, all of us were disappointed in the quality and price of the food. We tried the flounder, shrimp, oysters and scallops. I consider the quality to be similar or perhas less than Captain D's or Long Johns, but at least double the price. Per the reviews, the hushpuppies were very good if you're relating them to doughnut holes or similar flavor to funnel cakes... I liked them. The staff was friendly and we appreciated the opportunity.

It is always fresh with excellent taste and even driving a few miles to get it "home" it is delicious. The staff is great and the food is wonderful!. A vacation without Stevens would not be a complete vacation.

We went with a party of 8 - 4 adults and 4 kids on a Thursday night. We had clam chowder (very good), She-crab soup (also yummy), shrimp salad (lots of shrimp), fisherman's platter (tons of seafood - all tasted very fresh), combo platters (again, plentiful) and dinner salads. The hushpuppies were especially good, french fries not so much. Very nice waitress, good iced tea - both sweet and unsweet. Wish we'd had room to try the desserts... will have to go back!

We have a condo in Cherry Grove and got clued to this place a couple years back. We always go for dinner. It is unpretentious and, more importantly, doesn't seem to exist to parasitically attach itself to tourist dollars like so many places along the rows on 17. Food is very good, quality is likewise. Most items seem made on site (rather than coming from a purveyor like Sysco or US Foodservice). Biggest thing is that they don't overcook and over-batter the seafood. I always recommend Stevens.

We have been going to stevens for years. My husband loves the ribeye steak and says it is better than any place he has ever been. I still wish they would put the salad bar back in , they used to have the best pistachio salad, etc. I personally love the scallops and hushpuppies. Good choice for anyone to make...

We arrived just as the restaurant opened for dinner. The smell of cleaning disinfectent hit you as you entered the place. The atmosphere is like a bad cafeteria. The owner runs the place like a sherriff. From her command post she peers out onto the customers as they eat. The flounder was fishy. The slaw unflavorful and the shrimp soggy. The hushpuppies were the best part of the meal. We can't wait for Hoskins to re-open for the season!

We ate at Steven's for the first time this week based on the recommendation of a local we met at a different restaurant. It was very good. I had the fried oysters and they were cooked perfectly. The hushpuppies were wonderful too. A little sweet. I would love to come back during the oyster roast season. The owner said it was over at the end of March this year. They weren't crowded while we were there and I didn't notice any smoke issues.

Best shrimp, oysters and crabcake in the area! We had the Senior plate and it was plenty of food at a very reasonable price. The seafood was prepared just as we like--in a light batter! The sides were delicious too. The iced tea was very good and we had refills when needed. The service was also exceptional and we will be returning as soon as we get back to the beach!

A large group from our church went to eat last night. We were seated as soon as we walked in. Our waitress was wonderful and worked the whole group of tables by herself and did a great job! Some got the roast and some plates. The food was great and the prices were reasonable. No one left hungry. We loved the atmosphere - it is like a fish camp style and people were up talking to friends that were also eating there. Just a comfortable and relaxed time of great seafood and fun. We all are in agreement to go back next month!

One of the best kept secrets in Myrtle Beach. Shu, don't tell everybody. Some of the best seafood you will eat, at great prices. Go to Calabash and get the same food for many more dollars. Not great atmosphere, but good service and delicious food. Good service with small groups, large groups leave something to be desired. We eat here at least once a month.

Very good food at the budget pricing...If you like Calabash seafood, this place is a must. Try the onion rings...my wife and i both rank it the best we ever head. Oyster roast is also excellent. Now the negatives, atmosphere fits perfact MB "redneck" charm...and smoking gotta go. I see too many little kids seating next to a chain smoker seating next table.

Overall, if you don't mind the atmosphere and smoke, this gotta be the best seafood in town...

Went to Steven's the other night with friends who said they always go here when they are really hungry. Guess that's the reason they like it because they are so hungry they don't really care what they eat. The flounder was dry and rest of the meal was just adequate. Very disappointing. Prices were high, we thought, for the quality of the food. No atmosphere. To be fair we did not try the oysters. We all had seafood platters. The deviled crab was also very average, too much filling not enough crab. Definitely will not be going back. Too many other places in the area that are better.

The steak my girls all shared was huge and tasted great with a real smokey flavor. We have gotten in the habit of visiting Steven's everytime we are in the Cherry Grove area. They have outstanding Calabash style seafood. Best of all it beats the $20+ per head you will have to pay 15 miles up the road. If you like great seafood this is the place. It is just an old-fashioned "fish camp."

I have been visiting Steven" Oyster Roast for probably as long as 45 years. It's a 24 mile drive for us but we love their food and find the owner to be a very pleasant person. The service people have always been the best. Now that I am thinking about it I think we will visit them tonight. I usually get a seafood platter but my husband gets flounder. We share a large order of their delicious onion rings. I like it's homey atmosphere but I must admit it gets a little noisy sometime. Lots of customers!! Even if we have to wait for seating it's never very long.

We did a little piddling around town & bought a scratch off ticket that won $20.00!!! By the time we returned we had great fresh medium (that's a little juicy) steamed delicious oysters. Steven's is my favorite restaurant, hands down. I have a vacation house nearby and when I'm at the beach, I always eat at Steven's.

They have the best rib-eye steak in the area. It is wonderfully seasoned and very tender. My hubby usually gets the steak and shrimp combination. It comes with a salad, onion rings (the thin crispy kind - not frozen), baked potato, and texas toast.

If I am with women, we always split a plate because it is way too much food for one.

They have great sweet tea and will give you a pitcher for your table. The hush puppies are great, but don't come ahead of time unless you ask for them, and there is a charge. Ask for honey butter with them for an extra sweet taste.

If I'm on a diet, I get the boiled shrimp - you can get them cold or hot. The cocktail sauce is a little spicy for me so I always add a little ketchup.

We go so much that we are now "regulars" and get great service. If you're looking for atmosphere don't go here, but the food is great - give it a try!
