Seafood Restaurant in Calabash

Seafood Hut
Rated: 3.6 out of 5 with 60 Reviews

A tiny place with people stretching around the corner of the building. The seadfood platters offer an abundant amount of food. If you don't like seafood there's hamburgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. Closed Mondays.

We went there for the first time this week. We have been coming to the area and Calabash for over 25 years and have never stopped by. Always drive by looking at the line thinking it must be good. This year we stopped and we are going back again tonight. Two times in one week! We all love the food for the price, friendly service and cleanliness of the place. Nothing bad about this. Sweet tea is also a southern favorite that I cannot wait to get when I am in the area. No place makes it better than the south. If you are looking for a great place to eat that won't cost your vacation budget, this is the place to go. Who needs a buffet when you get FRESH seafood that fills you up for half the price of a buffet? A++

Excellent, excellent, excellent!!! The best seafood around. It is most definitely worth the wait if you don't get there early. The Seafood Hut is a mandatory stop whenever I'm in southern NC.

We LOVE the scallop sandwiches! A waiter at a fancy Italian restuarant recommended this tiny place located north of Myrtle Beach. We wish we had eaten there early in the week so we could have gone back for more before we left town! The wait to be seated was long, so we ordered our dinner to go and that worked out well. Its just a tiny restaurant packed full of delicious seafood. YUM!

We have eaten here for 20 years and absolutly love the place. Not fancy but the food and service are wonderful. The flounder shrimp and oysters are my favorites.Every year we say we will try a different seafood resturant but always end up right back here.Oh yes you will probably need a box to take home the leftovers. I hope this place never closes down.

This is a very plain, very small place -- with the best calabash style seafood in the area. I have been visiting Myrtle Beach for 20 years, and have eaten everywhere. This is the freshest and best prepared calabash (fried) seafood. Don't expect a nice dining room or table cloths. Just great food.

We were fortunate to get seated within 10 minutes on a Friday night in early April. Don't go for the atmosphere or the comfortable seating - there isn't any. Be prepared to squeeze in and like it, because the Seafood Hut serves up the best seafood you'll ever eat.

As I ordered the small scallop plate, I was wondering if I'd have enough to eat. One member of our party laughed at the small portion of fries that came with the plate. Not to worry, you won't be able to eat them all anyway, because your plate will be FULL of fat, sweet, perfectly fried scallops that are obviously as fresh as they can be. The fries and cole slaw are good too, and the hushpuppies are delicious. One of my friends didn't care for them, as they are not cornmeal hushpuppies, but the rest of us loved them. Not greasy at all and slightly sweet. Don't get them before the meal - you'll pay $1 extra for that, and then you'll be too full to eat your seafood.

Refills on soda are extra - get the tea with free refills. They do have hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches too, but why would you bother? The flounder, shrimp and scallops were all pronounced great everyone at our table.

Go early and go often!

Went on an early Sunday afternoon when church crowd was having lunch at the Hut and other restaurants in the immediate area, Short outside wait was made pleasurable by chatting with locals who "come here every Sunday" for best food and prices. Pace inside is rapid but service is efficient and professional. Lunch special every day rotates but each day has its assigned menu choice and is a great bargain at $6.50!! Lunch special is served only between 11:00 and 4:00.The filet on our dish was supposed to be flounder but the waitress informed us that grouper was being substituted because flounder was unavailable fresh. Understand that grouper sells for at least twice as much as flounder and when I remarked to the server she said we alway substitute "up" and never "down". Refreshing policy, huh? We went back two nights later (they are closed on Monday) and still got the grouper substitute. Hush puppies are only mediocre however regardless of other people's reviews. But we are going back on Sunday 12/16 for the lunch special, hush puppies not withstanding

The Seafood Hut is a great little secret that's fast becoming popular. If you go by and see long lines, never fear the line moves quickly. The food is outstanding and the service is great! My husband introduced me to the restaurant after his family had been going for years. We go everytime we are in town. This is what seafood is really about with a perfect price as well. No matter what time of the year it is you will not be dissappointed. I can't wait to go again! :-)

Do you have any idea what good fried seafood should taste like? If not, give the Seafood Hut the nod for your first try. Our family tried the platters and were amazed at the prices (low) and the flavor (high). My wife LOVED the oysters and to this day we kiddingly threaten to make the nearly 9-hour drive to indulge on the tasty fare. Although we baked outside in the 90 degree sun, the wait was shorter than the more popular restaurants in the area (including the Myrtle Beach area). The "locals" patronize the Seafood Hut for a reason---thankfully we found out why. We'll definitely be back during our next vacation visit!

The Seafood Hut is family friendly and down to earth. You can sit inside or use the take window to order you food. The workers are attentive and helpful. There are tables with umbrelas outside at your disposition, should you decide to eat al fresco. In my experience the seafood has always been fresh. The batter used is light and makes the fish, shrimp, and crab taste delicious. I love the potatoes too. The price is right and fits all budgets and the reward of the tasty food is worth the wait. Enjoy.

This is a neat place for a quick, fried seafood meal. The BEST flounder and shrimp that we had during our visit. It was lightly breaded and very tasty. Just be prepared that you only get fries, slaw and hushpuppies to go with it. And speaking as a Southern girl they had GREAT sweet (and unsweetened tea). This is not a big place and we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated outside in the cold. I'd suggest coming early, but the flounder was worth it.

The crab cakes were out of this world! The tea and hushpuppies were really good -- hallmarks of a good southern eating place. Value was excellent. We had combo platters with the most delicious flounder, shrimp, scallops, and crab cakes for two of us and it was just $24. I think it 's a little crazy to charge $1 for bringing the hushpuppies our BEFORE the meal, but we were hungry and paid it. To refill the drinks were also a charge, so we all ordered a glass of water -- which you need a lot of with seafood anyway! not a fancy place but good food!

We drove straight from Hendersonville, NC, to the Seafood Hut Sunday. The food was a little slow in coming, but worth the wait! You can get larger portions and pay much more elsewhere, but the quality, taste, value, and service won't be better than the Seafood Hut. We're leaving Friday and our last seafood dinner will be Thursday... AT THE SEAFOOD HUT.

We were staying at Topsail Beach and decided to visit Calabash for some of it's famous seafood. There was a line to get into the "tiny" place but friendly conversation with other patrons waiting to be seated made time fly. Once inside we were not disappointed. The staff was friendly and courteous and the food was incredibly delicious. My daughter swore she could never eat an oyster but ended up eating half of mine. There were no complaints at all about the food here, everyone enjoyed their meals and sampled each others platters. We were sent on our way with big smiles, full stomachs and a complimentary cup of sweet tea for the road. We will definitely visit the Seafood Hut again.

We were returning from a boat ride. My husband spotted your restaurant. He saw cars all around it. He said that must be a great place to eat. We stopped. You'll were busy and full. My husband asked would it be possible to serve 18 people. You said give us a minute. Sure enough, you had us seated and waited on in a few minutes.

The seafood was delicious. Great prices and portions. We were all pleased with the food and service.

We even returned again before departing the beach.

The Seafood Hut's food is the best of any restaurant we have tried in Calabash or anywhere else. The regular or deluxe seafood platter includes everything you could possibly desire. The shrimp, flounder, devilled crab, scallops, etc........you name it...........everything is absolutely delicious! We visit the Seafood Hut several times each time we are at Calabash/Sunset Beach. Don't miss it; you will NOT be disappointed, I assure you. There's no place better to dine than at the Seafood Hut. It's tops in our book!!!

You can't visit the area and miss the Calabash Seafood Hut. We make it a family practice every summer. We have found that evening wait lines can be quite long, so we prefer to take in lunch. The food is still terrific, the lines considerably shorter and prices even better. This place has been hoppin for decades and when you visit, you will see why! Be sure to take advantage of a lunch special, especially if it includes the oysters or fish!
