We have been dining at Sea Captains House for many years. When this restaurant went under new ownership, the quality is continously declling. I always get the fried scallops. This time, they (6) were about the size of a quarter and cost me $30.00. Very disappointed and left there hungry.

The Sunday scallop special was melt in your mouth scrumptious. The chicken salad with fresh fruit that my husband ordered was also delicious. We were both pleased with the friendly greeting and had no wait to be seated with a beautiful ocean view table. Walter was an excellent waiter and paid attention to our special needs. We discovered this restaurant last year while on vacation and this was our first choice of places to dine on our return this year.

Vacation time in Myrtle Beach! First time ever in this area. By luck, we found a listing for Sea Captains House showing their great reviews. Upon arrival I noticed that the restaurant exterior was unpretentious. Once inside though, I appreciated the sense of classic style, warm & cozy decor, and deep sense of history. A young, pretty Southern Belle greeted us with a welcoming smile. It was a Saturday night and they had people waiting for a table. We were told the wait would be about 15 minutes but it turned out to be only about 10 minutes. Service by "Terri" was prompt, efficient and delivered with gentle smiles and laughter. The she-crab soup was very good, the ginger soy dressing on the salad was quite good, the hush puppies were excellent, the seafood platter was outstanding! The platter contained fried (but you can order it grilled) oysters, extra large shrimp, colossal scallops and sweet, mild flounder, all of which was lightly breaded and fried perfectly so that it didn't dry out. It smelled & tasted as though it was plucked from the ocean only minutes before. It couldn't have been any better. We enjoyed every bite. The she-crab cup of soup was $4.99 and the seafood platter was $27 (a smaller size platter can be ordered for $23). Bottom line: a little expensive but quality of food, service, and atmosphere was uncompromised. This dining experience, with the great food, view of the ocean, and warm and comfortable environment (with oil candle on each table & soft, upbeat music) is perfect for a romantic dinner for two, a fun time for a group of friends, or a family meal. Go & enjoy!

We didn't have a long wait, as we got there right when it reopened for dinner. My boyfriend and I both ordered the seafood platter, which came out in a normal amount of time. We ordered the seafood platter broiled, but it came without any seasonings. The scallops tasted like egg whites. I don't know if this is typical, but I don't have any desire to go back for a bland platter.

My husband and I tried this place last night after the hotel staff suggested it to us. My husband ordered a broiled seafood platter and it was a watery, monochromatic, slimy mess. He later told me "It was the worst meal I have ever had". I ordered crab cakes and they were also lacking in appeal. We frequently travel for pleasure and do not mess around with the title "fine dining" and in my opinion (everyone has one) the food at this place is no better than what one would find at a fast food joint. We have spent $$$$ on excellent meals before and I am quite annoyed that we spent a mere $85. The service was good and the time to be seated was speedy. The food is disgusting.

I have been there many times....since the 60's when it was just the original house. The service and view is wonderful. But my last visit in May was disappointing. The fish gave the appearance of a portioned serving like something one would get at a fast food joint. I had never been disappointed before and will chalk this up to just a bad night. We will try it again in September and hope that it's back to the old place we have always enjoyed.

I lived in MB over 10 years ago. I knew the Sea Captains House was "The Place" to go for good seafood. My mother and I were on vacation and decided to go there on a Monday night. We arrived around 8:00. We walked in and the hostess sitting on a stool near the front door said it would be a 45-65 minute wait. We were starving so we decided to go elsewhere. The place where we decided to go was having air conditioning issues so we went back to Sea Captains House. It was now close to 9:30. I called to see if they were still on a wait. I'm pretty sure it was the same hostess that answered the phone. She said about 30 minutes but that it could change depending on business. We arrived about 5 minutes later and there was no wait at all. My mother walked in first to an eye rolling gesture by the same hostess. She did not seem happy to see us. They sat us, and our server Chris was great. He didn't make us feel like we were an inconvenience unlike the hostess. Our food was amazing. Just as I remembered. The window that we were sat near was all fogged up so we really didn't get to enjoy the view of the ocean. So other than the rude hostess (which I would give a poor rating) and the foggy window, our experience was great.

I had read mostly great reviews about this restaurant and they were right on the money. We were seated immediately with 6 people in our party. I had the shrimp & grits and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had the crab cakes and he said they were the best he'd ever had. I found the prices right about the same or a little higher than many of the other restaurants in MB, but the quality of the food made the high price easy to digest.

I hate to bust everyone's bubble, but my husband & I ate there this week & were very disappointed. Our vegs were served luke warm & we both got fish & actually burned our tongues. Now mgr assured us they didn't have a microwave in the kitchen but I beg to differ. Never in my life has fish been served that hot. The only consolation was they didn't chg for my dish, since both plates were barely eaten, that was acceptable. We won't be back.

Had looked forward to dining here. Got there early for lunch. Was seated immediately, but in the first seating area. The hostess was annoying. She meant to be pleasant, but we got tired of hearing her every word to everyone who came in. Ordered the seafood platter, but was told they did not have scallops that day. I don't consider four fried shrimp and four fried oysters, with a small piece of fish, a seafood platter, especially for the price. The food was okay, but not anything to shout about. We have no plans to return.

I just visited this restaurant last night for the second time and again was NOT dissapointed! We were quoted 30-45 minutes, an average wait time for 7:30 on a Saturday night but only waited 20 minutes. Out waiter was extremely busy but still very attentive and helpful. Both my husband and I extremely enjoyed our meals. The food is more than worth everything you get. I had the Chicken Oscar which came with vegetables, a starch, a salad, and a roll in addition to the free hushpuppies! My husband had the seafood platter and ate every bit of it! I will most certainly be visiting this restaurant on every visit I make to Myrtle Beach!!!

I'm having a hard time understanding some of the low reviews, but I guess some people are difficult to please. We were in Myrtle Beach for a business meeting last week, and one of the other attendees suggested we all go to the Sea Captain's House. It could only be described as AMAZING! The prices are very much in line with other high end restaurants (which this is) ..... the staff was friendly and accommodating ..... the food was fantastic and more than any of us could eat. I can see that there would be long waits during the summer season, and that perhaps the service might not be as speedy at that time; but that goes along with vacationing at the beach in the summer. There are few really nice restaurants in MB ... most are geared to people looking for cheap buffets. So this one is bound to be overwhelmed at times. We'll go back for sure!

NOT WORTH THE PRICES but the view is Awsome!!!!....There is nothing special about the seafood. Dinner entree's are over $20 and lunch will end up costing you $10 less. Addd up appetizers,etc... The lunch host is phony as canbe. People who love this place dont' know good food or that you can get the same tasting fried seafood at many of the other offers along the strand. This company is part of Myrtle Beach National and twelve plus resorts that markets well and uses mb chamber of commerance funds to finance the tourists dollars. It was shocking to see a volenteer tax that consumer are paying unknowingly on all bills.

Hubby and I went to The Sea Captain for our 6th wedding anniversary on 12/18/10. Had been for breakfast once, but this was our first dinner experience. What a delight! Sea Captain was decorated for Christmas, had a fire in the fireplace, and was SO cozy on a cold, rainy night. We were glad to be able to order the senior serving, which was just right, and allowed us room to share a piece of keylime pie. Delicious food, great service, and great ambience for our anniversary dinner! We come to Myrtle Beach every year for our anniversary, so may make The Sea Captain the place our annual anniversary meal!

My husband and I have made it a tradition to come to Myrtle Beach and the last two times we have eaten at the Sea Captain's house which my mother reccomended. She said the 'blue room' there had the best views. We arrived there on a saturday night and waited for a table in the glass room on the ocean. There were heaters outside which was good since it was october. We listened to some nice music and had delicious pina coladas. We were seated in a decent amount of time in 'the blue room' (purely by chance) right by the window. Loved it. Our waiter was so friendly. I had the scallops with brocolli and mashed potatoes. Soooo good. They scallops were huge. Everything was perfect. The second time we went was our one year wedding anniversary this april. We waited just a short while, were seated in another room with a view and had an excellent waiter. We ordered some kind of clams in a giner sauce as an appetizer. Delicious. I had salmon that night. It was great and the portions are nice. The waiter brought us a free hot chocolate cake to share since it was our anniversary. We ate the left overs the next day. The price is on par with a nicer seafood restaurant but not outrageous by any means. I'm sure we will be going back when we visit this October. Happy Eating.

We visited on Labor Day weekend and the place was very busy. We waited in the rear lounge (with entertainment) over-looking the ocean and our table was ready within 5 minutes of our quoted wait time. The food was great, and the presentation was quite appealing. I had the special which was a shrimp/scallop pasta dish and my fiancee had the steak and shrimp. Our waitress was very informative and personable. Over-all experience was great and we will definitely go back again, but I will take a sweater next time as the A/C was quite high.

We ate here on the recommendation of a friend in spite of a number of bad reviews on this site. Our experience was delightful. My wife and I had shrimp salads and my mother – in –law had a crab an artichoke quiche, which was loaded with crabmeat, This also came with a fruit salad, which consisted of a nice assortment of fruit. Service was great. We sat on the porch and today there happened to be a nice breeze and yellow butterflies wafting in and out of the screen porch. We will certainly return there for lunch again and would certainly recommend it. I guess that everyone’s experience is different and it makes sense to go out and try something you feel you might enjoy , even if others happened to have a bad experience

The best breakfast in Myrtle Beach!!! The best thing about the buffet breakfast is the personal chef who can make any kind of omlette or eggs you want right in front of you on the grill. They even have "egg beaters". The fresh fruit is a plus for those watching calories... The scenery is spectacular...oceanfront! I have been there before and saw dolphins swimming while I ate my breakfast. I highly encourage everyone to eat at this establishment.

Beware ! ! ! This place is way over rated. The food prices are costly and not kid friendly and we don't enough have kids. Feel sorry for the people which came in before us. The food is no better then fast food fried drive thru's. It is the atmoshere worth going to see. However,ff you want to be close, on or near the ocean, take a walk on the boardwalk and find some grub elsewhere. Tax is 11% because the owner's created a volunteer tax (1.5% extra on all checks) to promote the tourism at our exspense for the resort and golf courses they own next door. The manager told us that when we question the high tax rate. The the lunch host also informed the owners did away w/ bike week.

After waiting over 45 minutes for a table, we ordered broiled dishes which were completelly bland. Our table next to the windows was freezing (probably due to the rain earlier in the day) The waitress was working hard, but had too many tables so our service experience was poor - including waiting probably 20 minutes to get a check and pay. Possibly if we had ordered everything fried it might have been better. We unanimously agree with another posting that the hush puppies were the best part of the meal. We won't be back to what we were told was 'the best restaurant in myrtle beach'.

Would not recommend this restaurant. When we first went in you could smell sewer gas. We had reservations so we were seated promptly. The ocean side view of the restaurant was awesome and a great place to get pictures. The dining area in which we were seated was extremely hot and uncomfortable. Many patrons were complaining. It was so hot even if the food had been good you couldn't have enjoyed it. The hushpupples and butter were the best part of the meal. The food was less than average. The prices were not that bad but it was definelty overpriced for the quality of food and service that you received. I asked for cocktail sauce and didn't get it until the meal was over. We sat there needing drink re-fills which we never got my husband finally took our glasses to the bar area and got us re-fills. When we complained to the manager about the heat and service his response was "the thermostat is as low as I can set it and we are just really busy."

My husband and I went to this restaurant in May and had a wonderful experience. We loved the option of having senior portions and our server, Zach, was great. Lo and behold, when we returned in June with our children and grandchildren, we were fortunate eough to have Zach again. He was just as delightful as before. We ordered everything from steaks to various seafood dishes and all were very well prepared. We believe the New England clam chowder is the best we have ever had....anywhere, even in New England. The she crab is also very good. This will definitely be one of our stops each time we visit Myrtle Beach, which is about 4 times yearly. Thanks for such a fine quality restaurant.

My family went right at 5pm so we didn't have to wait but like 5 minutes. The food was good and fresh. The scallops were so yummy. We will go back, but I suggest go early. We ate for around $25 per person without mixed drinks or an appetizer. Our waitress was nice and served us well.

I've gone here basically all of my life on vacation. It would seem starting in 2009, the quality has dropped off in some respects? For what they're charging, I do expect better. My last visit to MB I didn't feel compelled to go as I once did, which is a bit sad to me. One major, major factor is that the thing I've remembered from the past few visits is the extremely... uppity/pretentious lady who does the seating. Her attititude is somewhat "it's YOUR honor to be here", Soup-Nazi-ish. It's too expensive for me in that I HATE that "Fuh fuh fuh" sort of attitude, it is NOT what I'd come to expect there. There's a male waiter there with a similar "haute cuisine" smarm, but for the most part it seems like the female waiters are nice and unpretentiously courteous as they always were? Some items on the menu are really, really done well - some are not, but they're charging a premium they're not delivering on. It has always been my favorite restaurant at MB; but I'm sorry to say they've priced themselves too high now, AND the snooty attitude isn't appreciated.

Four in party.Best she crab soup I've had at MB. ....white and creamy with lots of crab and a touch of sherry. Crab dip served with toasted bread rounds was good, but a little bland. .. Broiled scallops w/herb butter were excellent, tender and not overcooked. Fried shrimp and oysters were a little overcooked Hush puppies were small and a little sweet, but not as sweet as most places make them here. they have senior portions, but they are still around $15 or $16. Service was a bit slow.

The food there is great. The restaurant is a family oriented restaurant, but they do usually have live music outside on the deck. It's one of the few ocean front restaurants so it's a great place for a view or a walk after dinner. I suggest it to my friends when they are in the area.

Our first time in Myrtle Beach, needless to say it has been most enjoyable. The weather was on the chilly side, but that doesn't stop us from exploring. The three places we ate were Sea Captain's, The City Bar and Akles. The Sea Captain's Restaurant was wonderful, the See Crab Soup and Clam Chowder were to die for....a meal in itself. We ordered the Seafood Platter (Senior size) and it was more than enough. No room for dessert, now we will have to return. Put Sea Captain's Restaurant on your list of "must do".

Both times at dinner we had Shauna as our server and she was excellent. Maybe the best seafood we've had anywhere. Plan on many return visits.

Disappointing to say the least!!! Sunday lunch/brunch, not worth it. Got there at 11am and the local regulars who come in after us got all the window tables b/c the hostess/owner Megan politely hints for tips and screams across lobby for the wait stuff to assist her (very bossy lady and demeaning). Furthermore, she is phony and overly L0UD. Then, we realized she was the one who last year kept an item we turned into lost and found AND as it turned out, it belonged to someone in our group but, she was wearing it the next day when we came back to get it. My wife wanted to call the police. The view and service only by the staff which has been there for years makes it worth going. The newer staff /manager have very fast food ways about how they function. Ask for the staff which has been there for awhile if you want things to go right!! The newer server Rocco, smelled hungover, never refilled drinks, provided No hushpuppies and messed up all our meal orders. Never saw the manager. Then the server offered us 5 free desserts to compensate for countless inabilities. Wow alot of money to being giving away in free desserts. Rather of had our food right!!!! Always the she crab soup is great!! One the way out we did see our favorite waiter and the one lady server. Glad to see they are there and will ask for them next time, even if we have to tip upon entering.

We went there for lunch today - service wasn't great and the place wasn't crowded. The food however was terrible, except for the fruit and veggies, they were good. The steak was charbroiled burnt and over cooked with very little flavor (except burnt) and the crabcakes were the size of a saltine with about as much flavor. Even the sweet tea was bitter. For two people it cost around $36, way overpriced and underportioned - not even tasty - I left hungry and not feeling very well from what I did eat. I'd never go back!! They rely on unfortunate tourists for their business because if they had to rely on locals returning - they'd be out of business!!

Visited a friend for drinks on October 2nd & had a most wonderful evening. The restaurant structure is stunning, the hostesses are professional & adorable, the wait staff are all well dressed, & the view and setting is the bomb. The entertainer on the patio was a real crowd pleaser, the bartender was one of the best that I have ever seen....And I have been in my share of bars from California, Florida, Ontario, and places in between. My mother was so impressed by my experience she wants my husband & I to take her there for her Birthday dinner this November. The decor is elegant yet still they are very family friendly. We have 9 children & are planning to celebrate with the here over the Christmas holiday.

My boyfriend and I were on a road trip, eating at restaurants in Savannah, Charleston, DC, and Chicago. Great meals all around, but nothing was as wonderful as our meal at the Sea Captain's House. We both had the muddle as our entree, and our appetizer was the blackened scallops over cheese grits. Absolutely wonderful food and great service. All around us it seemed people were enjoying their meals, lots of laughter/conversation. Even the long wait to be seated was pleasant while having a drink and sitting outside talking with others. Thank you for the experience, and we will DEFINITELY be back.

We had a great waitress. Restaurant was busy but noise level was very bad and I couldn't hear to carry on a conversation with others at the table. Food was average but crab cakes were greasy and full of filler. Mrs. Paul's would have been better. This is inexcusable in a seafood restaurant. Portions were large but that didn't help the food quality. This restaurant should worry less about portion size and concentrate on quality. Their prices should not have to be raised to accomplish this.

We dined here on 9/9/09. Our experience was disappointing. I never experienced stuff flounder like theirs; three peices of flounder, forming a U, surrounding a small crabcake. I expected a fillet suffed with crab. My wife's crabcakes had pieces of shell in them. We live in landlocked W. PA, and get much better seafood at many locations here.

We had heard so much about this restaurant and were very excited to try it. I don't know what all the fuss was about. The fried seafood platter was soggy and tasteless. My husband ordered the crab cakes. For $22.00 he got two small crab cakes that the only flavor you could taste was the burnt grill taste. The hush puppies were very good but that was the only good thing I can say about this restaurant. The wait staff was not very pleasant either.

The staff was excellent, service was very good. My husband got the seafood platter, broiled, and he loved it. I ordered fried shrimp and it was okay. I have had better for a much cheaper price back in my home town of Salisbury. The salads were very good and so were the hushpuppies. I enjoyed my evening but I will not return.

We hadn't visited Sea Captain's until our anniversary this year. Since we don't like seafood, we ignored others recommendations. Well, Sea Captain's is THE most outstanding dining experience in Myrtle Beach. Every thing was exceptional... the service, the food and the atmosphere. There are many non-seafood selections for anyone like us. It was so good ,we returned the very next week and had breakfast there twice, which was wonderful, too. We highly recommend!

What a disappointment! My husband and I took my dad to dinner for Father's Day and I will not be going back. I had eaten here for lunch twice before and both times the food was fine. But yesterday was a whole different story! We all had the shrimp platter. The shrimp tasted like it had been sitting in Clorox. I tried to cover up the taste with cocktail sauce and ketchup, but even that didn't help. I couldn't even finish my $21.00 dinner! The service was average at best. The view of the ocean is great, but the poor quality of the food completely overshadows that! This place is most definitely overpriced and overrated!

I don't even look at the menu as I order it every time that we visit the restaurant which is every time we come to Myrtle Beach. The view of the ocean is beautiful and the food is worth the wait that is a bit long at times. Also the crab cakes are to die for!!! Everything is always so fresh tasting. Look forward to going in July this yr. We found out breakfast is a great buy also - as long as you don't get the tremendous omlets with tons of seafood. Its all good. AND the hushpuppies . . .the best.

I had the entree that was supposed to be a clam sauce which was equally bland and tasteless. Not impressed with the quality of the food or the taste or the service. For what you spend here you should get better food and service. Overrated and overpriced. Will never go back. Nice view of the ocean, but I went to buy food not atmosphere.

They have a buffet, but we ordered off the menu. My order was wrong, so I sent it back. Waited for my omlette and it was still not what I ordered. No manager came to apologize or any type of compensation to make me feel better about being dis-satisfied and having to pay for garbage......$25.00 for breakfast that sucked!

We have visited this restaurant many times and enjoyed it very much. However, this past Labor Day Weekend we wanted to watch college football on TV so we opted for take out.....Big Mistake !!!!! When we placed our order we were told to pick it up in 30 Minutes. When we arrived, 35 minutes later, we were told it would be "just a few minutes". After another 10 minutes we were told "it's being bagged now". After another 10 minutes we asked again and over heard the hostess being told when she asked about our order "Well, it's going to be a long while yet". At this I spoke up and reminded them how long we had already been waiting and was told to "calm down and not raise my voice". Guess they did not want the others waiting to hear. At this point the manager was called, I explained our situation and was told "we have just been slamed tonight, orders are behind and we are waiting on the baked potato". After another 15 minutes, we finally got our food. Might I add, with no further apologize. By the time we paid, got back to our hotal to eat, everything was COLD. After waiting on our food for over 70 minutes and spending over $120., WE WERE NOT HAPPY !!! I'm sure we will go back because we all love the She Crab Soup and Seafood but NEVER AGAIN as take out.

By far, the place is the best place to eat in Myrtle Beach.

The food is outstanding and the staff is warm and welcoming.

The she-crab soup is a MUST, and the beef newburg is wonderful.

The food is fresh and cooked perfectly.

Do not miss this one!

Being from the seafood capital of the east coast (the Chesapeake Bay) it is really hard to find a seafood restaurant to satisfy my cravings. Sea Captain’s House did just that. Where I come from we have Cream of Crab soup but at Sea Captain’s House they call it She Crab Soup. Although it didn’t have the jumbo lumps I am used to it was a very close second and left me wanting more. The crab stuffed flounder was exceptional and my kids were both happy with their fried flounder. The only complaint I have would have to be with my husband’s broiled oysters. Where I come from they are left in the shell, but here they are placed in a dish with their own liquor and broiled. That made for a very tough and not so good oyster, but if that is your thing they give you a ton of them. Will definitely go next year, but will stay away from the broiled oysters.

Worst dining experience. When you enter the restaurant it smells old and musty. However. the ocean side of the restaurant is beautiful you can get some really good pictures . We were seated in the "red" room. The room was so hot that even if the food had been good you couldn't have enjoyed it. Fast food sea food is a 10 compared to what they served. When we ask the manager to adjust the air he was very rude and said we would have to deal with it. The prices were expensive based on the quality of food you are given. I definetly would not recommend to anyone. I will say that the waitress was extremely nice.

The service was good. The food was not as good as I thought it would be. I had the sea food platter and it had scalops, shrimp, fried oysters, and a white fish. All seemed to have been frozen and did not taste even average. It was the quality of red lobster! the fried oysters were the only thing that was tasty. I also had an apatizer of steamed muscles and they found a way to make that taste sharp (i think there was wide added but it did not taste good)! I went based on other reviews here but I have to tell you unless something changed dramatically since then, I was not at all impressed and in fact was disappointed! .

My wife and I were introduced to the Sea Captains House about 7 years ago and have been going there ever since. We make about 6 or 7 trips a year to Myrtle beach and make it a point to get there everytime. From the hushpuppies to the She Crab Soup to the Crab Cakes, which in my opinion are the best in the area. I recommend the Sea Captains House to all my friends who come to the area, either with there family's or on golf trips. It's certainly the place to eat.

This was always my family's favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach. We certainly had an unfortunate eating experience this time. After an 80 minute wait, we were seated and ordered appetizers. Our waitress, that was best suited for a Diner, was in too big of a rush to take a drink order. She then brought us our salads and the children's dinners. She completely forgot about our appetizers. Our dineer was brought out 15 minutes later and was ice cold - still no appetizers. When we complained about the food's temperature it was returned to the kitchen. After 15 minutes of waiting and the children having finished their meals, we spoke with a manager.

We arrived for dinner around 5:30 on a Sunday evening. We were expecting to wait a while. We were told about an hour. So we got a couple of cocktails from the bar and headed out toward the beach and sat in one of the swings. It was one of the most relaxing restaurant waits we have ever experienced. The wait wasn't an hour as expected so that was nice. Our waiter was was extremely polite and helpful as well as the rest of the staff. Everyone is so friendly at this place! I orderded the she crab soup as my appetizer. If you order this, order the bowl and not the cup. If you order the cup you will be disappointed that you didn't order the bowl! This soup is one of the best things I have ever tasted! My husband ordered the appetizer of the day which was fried shrimp. It was delicious as well. For our entrees my husband ordered the seafood platter and I orderded the scallops. Both dishes were excellent and they have home made hush puppies that are never ending. We were too full for dessert. While we were on the beach Monday morning we both got a craving for more of the she crab soup so we decided to go there for lunch. No wait at all. This time we ordered the crab cakes to go with our soups and salad. The crab cakes practically melted in your mouth. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and when we go back to Myrlte Beach for vacation, we will definitely dine here again!

My family and I ate at the Sea Captains House on a Friday night. The wait was long. They quoted 1 hour and it took almost 1 hour and 40 minutes! Our party was a party of six (2 adults& 4 kids) and they seated parties of 10, 12, and 5 ahead of us. (yes, they came in AFTER us). When I questioned the manager, he was rude and not accomadating. Where is customer service these days? The food was overpriced and the portions were small. My husband ordered the shrimp for 21.00 and he got 12 shrimp and less fries than my son who ordered from the children's menu. My steak was okay. They did not bring a steak knife and by the time I got it, my steak was cold. I wish our experience had been better. We have been coming to Myrtle Beach for years and I have always wanted to eat there. We surely won't be returning thanks to the rude manager and lack of customer service. If you like seafood, visit Red Lobster-they'll treat you better and it is a lot cheaper ;)

Let me begin by saying the over all experience was lowered by the waiter not the atmosphere. The wait was comparable to restaurants in our area back home and there was plenty of room to sit out on the patio while waiting, (with live music I might add). The atmosphere was set and we were even served drinks on the patio while waiting. We were seated and our waiter "Bob" came to take our orders and introduce himself. He never asked my son what he wanted to drink (an oversite I thought) so I asked my son what he wanted in fornt of Bob and my son said Mountain Dew, to which Bob replied we don't have that. So I asked my son which coke product he wanted and Bob walked away. My son said root beer and I had to raise my voice to get Bobs attention as he was walking away and asked "Do you have root beer!" Bob hollered back over his shoulder "Nope!" me and my wife were stunned. It was all down hill from there. I had to get up and go to the bar to get my own drinks and he never refilled any of my family's drinks. There were 5 of us. The food was good but it was hard to enjoy it because of Bobs attitude. The bill came and it was $112. and change. I told my wife I'm giving him $120 even for a tip. When he came back he took the money and brought back change, my wife told him to keep the rest and get this... he stuck up his hand at it and shook his head no. He walked away and as he ascended the stairs he looked over his glasses at me as he entered the kitchen. Well Bob (this is for you) I always tip at least 15% unless your a bad waiter or waitress. You could have been friendlier and if you were having a bad day then take some classes to help you cope in your job that deals with the public. Even my children that usually pay no attention to anything seen how rude you were. Yes, we told the hostess that the service was poor on our way out. She just wanted to know where we were seated because we wouldn't tell her your name. the hostess may not have done anything, but I like to write. So if your reading this review I hope you have a better waiter than we did. Beware of Bob.

My family and I dined at the Sea Captains house on our last day of our vacation to Myrtle Beach. We had a late flight and wanted to kill time at a Restaurant with a great view of the ocean. The food was great, our server was wonderful and the prices were very reasonable! We got there at like 1:40pm not knowing the place closed at 2, until dinner and were still treated very nicely! I am a server myself and know that it must have been frustrating having such late guest. I would defiantly recommend this Restaurant to anyone! It is like a hidden gem on ocean drive. Most of the restaurants are hidden in the the resorts along the strip or are across the street from the ocean, so this is a great little place nestled up by the sea!

I truly don't understand what all the fuss is about! Let me start by saying that my family and I are originally from New England and we know good seafood! This restaurant was down right awful! We arrived at 4:45 for an early dinner and didn't get seated until 5:20. While we waited, I asked the hostess for a menu to look at and I was denied! The young girl stated "oh no we don't have enough menus to hand out". This is the most ridiculous statement I have heard. I've been in tons of restaurants and I've never been denied a menu! This was a first and I believe it's because they don't want you to see the high cost of the meals! We ordered the crab cakes, shrimp creole and fried shrimp children's meal. The crab cakes were tasteless and flat as pancakes! The shrimp creole was over cooked and the children's shrimp was dry and tasteless. May I also mention the fresh vegetables were hard and not edible. We paid $21 a plate for really bad seafood and poor presentation! Please ignore the good reviews. If you like good seafood, stay away from this place!

What can I say but WOW! We have been traveling witha group to Myrtle Beach for 5 years now and have never missed a having dinner at least twice the week we stay. The Sea Captain has by far the most outstanding food and service in the area. Delicious hushpuppies-SHE-CRAB soup (YUM) and the frshest seafood in town. Thank you for making our trip more pleasurable each time.

Our annual golf trip to Myrtle Beach each May, for the last three years has brought us to the Sea Captain's House for our first night's dinner. We also receive breakfast there each morning through our package with the Caribbean.

I have yet to have a bad meal, their filet is very good; either plain, or "Neptune" (topped w/ shrimp, crab meat, and bearnaise sauce.) Last year I overheard a guy exclaim as he was departing, "Get the scallops, their great!" I plan on doing just that this year.

As some others have said in their reviews, the wait is usually long, but I've found that to be the case at the finer restaurants. Shoot, Margaritiville can be upwards of 2 hours! and it doesn't get rave reviews, trust me, the wait will be worth it. The waiting area inside is small, so I suggest that you step out back, and enjoy the sound of the ocean waves rolling in, there's no better waiting area on the Grand Strand.

I always conducted luncheon meetings at this restaurant because of the impeccable service and simple beauty of this restaurant. The atmosphere is welcoming but with an air of distinction. My clients always raved about the place and it always reminded me of the restaurants that I would go to as a child in Cape Cod, MA., and on the CT shoreline. Any place that has impeccable service, a new england feel with the ocean as your direct view will always stay forever embedded in my thoughts. I truly miss this restaurant and I hope to visit it again one day. Audra Coart

I am alarmed at what used to be a family-type place to dine. They have two general managers now, who lack charm. For a small party seating for a baby shower--we where told one thing from ScottGM and Kip,GM Kip tell us how swell he is at his job and will continue to remain at the heilm and how much he knows. Then this other GM tells how much he knows. It was like a popularity contest. Then the servrer told us to go dine at Merchants where he works at nite and to take a cruise on his boat. It was like one of those timeshare seminars. Left not really want to return.
