Shrimp and grits with grouper was below average . There were five small shrimp and a tiny piece of grouper Our waitress was new and really didn’t know her way around the specials and totally forgot to offer us our salad and side.

The man who greeted us was great and very polite. We were seated immediately. We had a nice waitress who seemed well Informed of the menu and she did let us know ahead of time that she was new, however we order an appetizer and soup (as well as two entrees). We got our food immediately however no appetizer or soup came prior to our meal. We had to ask for it and by the time we got it were half way done with our entrees. Our table was NEVER cleared by our waitress so we has six plates on our table at once. We felt very rushed. The waitress brought our bill after a solid 15 minutes of not checking back, so by that time I needed a drink. She seemed annoyed that she had to take the bill back and add on ( even though that's increasing her chance for a better tip). After another 15 minutes of her MIA she brought back our bill and acted like she was adjusting it, because she knew she messed up. When we finally looked at our bill there was nothing taken off or adjusted. Her service was VERY poor

I decided to have dinner at Russel's after reading many positive reviews, and I agree with all of the positive ratings. Had an excellent dinner of grilled mahi mahi with the seafood platter and it was the best meal I've had in a long time! The grilled mahi was outstanding and the hush pupppies served before the meal were delicious! Also loved the outdoor seating under the big trees. Will definitely be back when I'm down at the beach again in a few months.

Having had many choices for New Year's Eve dinner, we decided to go to Russell's at Murrell's Inlet. We were not disapointed. Luckily, we were able to catch the early bird specials and my choice of flounder and deviled crab was excellent. The quantities were generous and the flavour was outstanding, Tricia, our waitress was very professional, pleasant and attentive. I would recommend it highly. Thank you. Happy New Year! Lorraine

Went to Russell's tonight. It's New Year's Eve 2011, we wondered whether we'd get in. The wait was minimal, the staff were awesome. We had a drink in the bar and in no time we were called to our table. We had the special of the evening, we were quite impressed with the food, the service and the bartender. Tricia, thanks, you were patient and all enlightening with us. We loved the service and the food. We'll be back!

Hi, My friends and I have just returned from Russell's Seafood Grill. The service was excellent and our server, Tricia, was very attentive to us and answered our multitude of questions with ease. She knew the menu perfectly, including early bird specials, and dinner specials when asked out of context. Upon our arrival, we had an estimate of 10 minutes before we were to be seated, but found that by the time we had ordered and been served our drinrks, our table was ready. The bartender was very friendly and had an excellent memory for details as she served up clients who were both at the bar and the surrounding tables. Our drinks arrived shortly thereafter, and within minutes, our table was ready. Communication between the bar section and the restaurant section was evident as our restuarnt server, Tricia, knew exactly what we had ordered without having to ask us. For someone who doesn't normally like a fishy seafood taste, Tricia's reassurance that the flounder and deviled crab early bird special was something worth trying. She did not steer me wrong. Russell, the owner, was present and we had a chance to chat with him. It is always great to meet the owners while dining at an establishment. Thanks from the gang from Ontario, Canada. Liz

My wife and I went to Russell's and had a great time. We sat outside and enjoyed the view underneath the trees. Our waitress seated us immediately. We were told of the special for the day and given a basket of piping hot hushpuppies. I ordered the seafood combo broiled and my wife got the chicken breast. They were cooked to perfection. Our waitress did an excellent job even though they were very busy. We definitely plan on returning.

We all ordered something different. The smoked fish dip was awesome. I had the blackened mahi It wasnt spicy hot had a great flavor. Key lime pie was out of this world as well. our first visit but not our last

Finally! REAL seafood at the beach! We had the hog fish - never heard of it before - it was incredible! Almost got the key lime pie but succumbed to Bailey's Irish Creme cheesecake and it was beyond delicious. As a Yankee who grew up at the beach, seafood is my preferred palate. Can't believe this best kept secret restaurant has been there 18 years. Customer service is fantastic and Russell has genuine hospitality. He has the best food guarantee I have ever seen! - if you dont like it, he will eat it. I would imagine the wait and noise level depend on the evening one dines. My Monday night on the deck was perfect! Our waitress was very attentive and hospitable. Going back often!

I went to Russell's for the first time this August. The wait was average and the rest of the experience was well below average. After a nearly 1 hour long wait for our food, we were told to "be patient" by the charming owner of the establishment. If the best things in life are worth waiting for; don't waste your time on the fare served here.

I took my family of 13 to Russell's tonight and was totally displeased. It took 30 minutes to be seated, even though I said that we could be split up and there was no line. When we were finally seated all together, our drinks and salads were brought fairly promptly. After finishing our salads, we waited 45 minutes for our meals. I asked RUSSELL, very nicely, if he could check and see how much longer it was going to take and he came back and said about 5 minutes. Then he added extremely arrogantly and rudly that I should be patient with them since several large parties had been seated. We had watched tables of families be seated, served, and leave while we were waiting. When the food finally came, at least one of the meals was really bad--tough and no taste. To cut it short, Russell was extremely rude to me and I never said anything "out of the way" to him. I will never go back to that restaurant and I recommend that you think twice before you go.

Russell's has been my favorite restaurant in Murrell's Inlet for many years! The food is always delicious and fresh. The service is excellent and I love the actual restaurant. Someone told me the building is the old Nance's building that washed across the street during Hurricane Hugo. It is truly a "one of a kind" restaurant. I highly recommend Russells if you are in the Murrell's Inlet area!

We are The Sandbagger University, a annual traveling golf group. We called 30 minutes upon arriving and were seated immediately, since there were 18 of us it was unexpected. Our drinks were served promptly, appetizers were brought cool, taken back and done to our satisfaction. The meals were good, above all two meals, the stuffed Halibut and cheese cake where the bomb. Russell was there to make sure everything was OK and lead us out when we left. I asked every one and they were all happy with their meals and especially the decor of the place. I would go back. My girlfiend and I were at Surside Beach for our normal weeks vacation. We had been to Russells two years ago, but skipped last year. I wish we hadn't. It was sooo excellent once again. We were seated quickly, the food potions were more than generous and the quality was excellent. I had scollops and shrimp and girlfriend had flounder and oysters. Itwas all cooked to perfection. Need I say anything about Russell. We even talked SC Gamecock football. He also took the time to have his picture taken with us outside in front of the resturant sign. We'll be back september of 2011.

Russell's had been highly recommended by a friend so we were very excited to enjoy dinner there during an October visit to the beach. The hush puppies were very good and the waitress was extremely nice and efficient. However that is where the positive comments end. We ordered one of the nightly specials...the scallop and shrimp bake. As a previous poster stated, it was as if the kitchen had run out of spices. The food had absolutely NO taste at all...the shrimp and scallops seemed to be swimming in buttery water. The prices were outrageous and we left feeling hungry and robbed. We'll stick to Lee's Inlet Kitchen...they never disappoint!

We tried Russell's Grill for the first time this past August. We were encouraged by the excellent reviews we read. However, Myrtle Beach in August is very hot and this restaurant has no air conditioning. Just based on this fact alone, we will not go back. It was uncomfortable to try and enjoy the food, much less the highly recommended She Crab soup. I ordered the shrimp and scallop bake and it was bland. I tasted my son's grouper dish and this also was bland. They must have run out of spices in the kitchen because all of our meals had absolutely no taste. With all of the choices for excellent seafood in Myrtle Beach and the surrounding area we will not return to Russell's.

The hog snapper was so fresh it melted in my mouth, service is better than anywhere else, if you like rustic, local type joints, you will love this, not a fine dining rest. Prices are great for the portions, they seat you as fast as they can.About the noise...it is not a library, it's folks having a good time and a kid crying here and there. Lots of memorabilia of old Murrells Inlet, kind of like a museum. Cool Place

After hearing my parents rave about this restaurant (they are locals), I finally had an opportunity to visit. We were greated at the door with true Southern hospitality, and seated immediately. After hearing the specials, I ordered the grilled tuna cooked medium rare. It was perfect! I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to try the soft-shell crab. Delicious! As a previous seafood restaurant manager, and having tried all the restaurants in Murrells Inlet, I would say this is the best. The owner was there, introduced himself, and visited and spoke to every customer there. He even helped clear the tables!

We glad we tried Russell's. Wait was about an hour but in season we just sat on the deck and listened to some great music. When we got seated the wait was worth while. The four of us all had something different and we shared of couse. From the broiled seafood, she crab soup to the steak, nothing disappointed us !!!!!!!!!!

My wife and family live in the inlet and this is by far the worst food around. The crab cakes are an absolute insult as if we were were from the midwest and just don't know what good seafood is. The waitress had a bad attitude which made for an all around bad experience.

The food was awesome - best grouper ever and the prtions generous. The wait staff was friendly - we always go there!! Their outdoor deck is the best - they have a singer there - Lee I think - we go there and would go there just to hear her - she is wonderful, but not loud enough sometimes. Russell always greets all his customers and the bartenders are always so warm and friendly. i love the rustic atmosphere it is true murrells inlet!

The wait time was what you expect during season, but the experience was very pleasant. We loved the band and drinks outside. The atmosphere was great - friendly, relaxed and it was obvious that these people mean for you to enjoy. The food was phenominal. There is nothing that we have gotten here that we do not LOVE. Russell's is on our list of must do's every year! My favorite place to get seafood!

When I went to Russels this past summer I ate the cheese potatoes and the flounder. It was absoloutly wonderful. The cheese potatoes were good and cheesy and the flounder had a very good taste. My family and I go there every year when we come. There is no comparison to Crabby Mike's. I love your bathroom with all of the hats. I love to try them on every time I'm in there. The cleanliness in your restaraunt and in the batroom. I always enjoy my visit when I am there. I can't wait to return with high exspectations. I will come very hungry for more. I absoloutly love the restaraunt Russel's.Thank You!!!!!!!!!

In response to many referrals, my husband and I went to Russells while on vacation in the area. We were not pleased with anything but the wonderful service we received from a server named Ginny. She gave us all the specials, her personal recommendations, and prompt service. The only thing we would go back for is her. Other than that, the food is overpriced, the owners belligerently drunk at the bar, and bad attitudes linger throughout the resaurant. Also, there is not a non-smoking area, so your food is both tasteless and smokey.

We love the area and always get great stories and history of the area from Russell and his staff. The food is great and affordable. The staff are usually sweet college kids that are very courteous! We sit at home sometimes and look at each other and say, "Wish we were in Murrell's Inlet at Russell's"! Can't wait to return and wish Russell the best!

The waiters & waitresses are all friendly & provide great service & the homey atmosphere is also great. I've never waited to be seated (I always go early anyway) Russell & Karen are always friendly & the personal touch of Russell visiting each table is also great.

I was dining at RUSSELLS a few nights ago and i logged on to this site to tell everyone that reads these how great my dining experience was once again, my food was great, one person in our party had a small problem with the way her fish was cooked, all we had to do is say something to russell and the problem was corrected before the rest of us finished eating. now i was not going to mention that until i read the comments from the guy/girl from florence, sc posted twice on this site. twice because he/she couldn't get his/her rating right the first time(says a little bit about them). let me say we have never been there and gotten bad service or bad food! we go there at least three times a week when we are in town, mainly for the food but russells wonderful personality is worth the trip itself, sometimes we just go for a drink after golf, the people from florence mentioned capt's would that be capt d's, then that is where you should go and make room for us that don't mind spending 16-25 dollars for great food, service, and RUSSELL! KEEP ON KEEPING ON RUSSELL!!! see you in a few weeks!!!

I have posted this a second time because the food was rated as above average which it certainly wasn't. Review: My wife and I made a special trip from Myrtle Beach last Friday night, Sept. 14, 2007. We both had flounder; her's was broiled and mine was fried. Her's had a little taste, mine was utterly and disapointingly tasteless. Also, the salad was meger and of poor quality, and the tea was weak. Our waitress failed to inform us of their daily specials. The price was high for such a poor meal. Only my baked potato was up to par. We could have done better at Capt 's and it would have been a lot less expensive. Florence, South Carolina

I've been going to russell's since they opened , the best place over all the places i've gone to around here. The owners and staff do the best they can to make your dining experience wonderful. Unfortunatly people have very different tastes. Some people you can not please, I personally think they should stay home, but russell will do whatever he can within reason to make it right. So if you don't like russells, you need to be scolded by your grandparents!.

We went here on a friends recommendation. I paid 22.00 for a special that was described as scallops, shrimp, sliced mushrooms in a wine and butter cream sauce. It was terrible. It was a few shrimp, overcooked, very large tasteless scallops sitting in a water bath with no flavor!! It was awful. My friend paid 19.00 for the broiled scallops, again very large and tasteless, as well as tough and chewey. No flavor at all. Will not go back there. Oh, and the hush puppies might actually have been the best part except they were soaked in grease. YUK.

After living in Myrtle Beach for 12 years we finally got around to dining at Russells. Now I feel bad that we wasted all of those years! Russell is a great guy who personally greets you and keeps checking back to see if everything is o.k. The food is excellent, (she crab soup to die for), service was very prompt and friendly. There is a beautiful view of the inlet and the ocean. Prices were surprisingly below what other restaurants charge and portions were larger. We will go back again and again. I highly recommend Russells, it is a great place for locals and tourists that want great food at fair prices.

Russell's is THE BEST place to go for seafood if you're visiting this area!! The 'all u can eat' places are tourist traps with bland, often old food. Russell's has wonderful atmosphere - even the wait is pleasant with the upbeat band - and the food is truly superb!! As far as the smoking / lack of non-smoking, its a choice... if you do not want to be disturbed by it, dont go to Russell's. I do not smoke or enjoy being surrounded by it, but there was no problem as the air circulated well and doors were open, which left it a little warm, but fine. If you are looking for WONDERFUL food, a unique and friendly setting, and overall great experience, I fully reccomend Russell's!!!!

A friend and myself stopped for dinner one evening this spring. We flipped a coin while driving thru the MI to decide where to stop. We were quite happy with our luck. The wait staff and owner were great , the salad was very fresh & the mahi was out of this world, unfortunately I could not recommend the flounder as it was mushy & tasted alot like mud. As our waitress was very observant she asked if we didn't like our flounder, told her the problem and it was immediaaately deducted from our bill and offerings to prepare something else right away came from her & the owner. We declined butonly because the mahi was so awesome and such a large portion along with the wonderful chees potatoe balls that we were stuffed. The owner and wait staff made what was a horrible flounder meal disappear, and our dining experience was great. After a little coxing from the owner as to how great the flounder should be I would give even it another try, as long as mahi wasn't the catch of the day.

While vacationing at Surfside Beach Russell's was suggested to us by a local repairman while working in our home. We were surprised to find a wait at 5PM. We decided to eat on the deck. It was a lovely warm evening with a nice air blowing. The service was exceptional. The food was hard to beat. Unfortunately, just as we started eating, a thunderstorm passed and we dashed inside. Everyone was so helpful in assisting us to a table while we finished our meal. We will be referring everyone we know to this great place to eat & enjoy.

Nice people, with good attitudes, especially the owner, who personally checked on every table. Food was OK, but not what we hoped for. Pricing and quality was better than Inlet Crab Shack. We sat outside to avoid the smoke, but unfortunately there was a female singer that night who kept increasing her volume in spite of our requests to keep it moderated. Finally, unable to converse, we gave up and left. Shame.
