Review: A fantastic restaurant in quaint Conway! I recently took my wife and mother-in-law out to the Rivertown Bistro on our way back home from the beach. The vacation included meals at many of the top rated restaurants on this site, however the Rivertown Bistro was the best meal of the week (a great way to end the week).
The interior of this restaurant is modern looking in the middle of a downtown area that could have been built in the 1940s (Note: There are many historic homes and buildings in this town). The owners, Darren & Cyndi Smith, have done a fantastic job of rebuilding this restaurant with an upstairs dining area that overlooks this scenic town. Take time to notice the lighting tricks on the ceiling!
The moment the cheese biscuits arrived we knew we were in for a culinary treat. We all agreed that the French Onion soup was the best we'd ever had. Then each of us ordered different entrees: pork tenders with asparagus and fried mac-n-cheese, a burger with fries, and a watermelon salad with balsamic syrup. The presentation of each entree' was beautiful and the food's preparation led to a hush at our table as we enjoyed each bite. The portion sizes were large enough that we ended up taking some of the burger and the pork home. However, we didn't want to pass on the desserts, so we ordered some to go: Peanut Butter Cheesecake and a "Key Lime Cake."
After driving for two hours, the cheesecake forced me to pull in for some coffee. The cheese cake looked as if it had just come out of the kitchen and was dripping with chocolate and caramel. It was divine and definitely worth the time that I will spend working the calories off. The "Key Lime Cake" did not travel as well but was reported to taste good (not really a cake texture - difficult to classify).
The wait staff was first rate! Lauren provided menu suggestions and explanations. Our water/tea glasses never reached bottom. When the end of the meal came, she packed our leftovers and another member of the wait staff even brought "to-go" cups for tea.
Rivertown Bistro's prices are inline with other fine dining establishments in the area. However, in my opinion all of these restaurants charge based on "what the market will bear." That being said, we will be back (if only for special occasions).
I highly suggest that you give this restaurant and staff a chance to impress you and yours!

Review: Rivertown Bistro is 5 * for Chef Darren Smith"s (and Staff) inventively-conceived and beautifully-presented dishes. He redefines" fusion" in many of his original creations. One of my personal favorites is the Shrimp and Scallops served over Carolina Gold rice. The sauce is an exquisite blend of Asian and Southwest that is not only beautiful to look at but is also simply delicious --down to the last bite. The rice itself, locally grown, and perfectly cooked, is the perfect complement to the also perfectly cooked and seasoned seafood.
Please reopen soon!!!

Review: HOORAY HOORAY the best restaurant in Horry County is open again ! We went for dinner the first Saturday Rivertown was open and it is safe to say they have not missed a beat on the food side and the new surroundings are outstanding. This eatery would not be out of place in Atlanta, New York or any other major city so we are truly fortunate to have it in our region.
The space is spectacular with great exposed brick, comfortable leather seating, wonderful art pieces and an open kitchen. The bar is comfortable to wait in and the drink choices are varied and interesting.....try the Black & Blue Martini! The service was still finding its feet but performed admirabley under the pressure of a very full house and a new menu; our server was very helpful and seemed to know her way around the menu very well.
So now the food..........simply stated as good as ever. Our spring rolls were great and the sushi was well prepared with a unique sauce (along with the usual soy sauce) that was a great compliment to the fish and rice. Our mains were well prepared with exceptional side dishs that our waitress was quite happy to substitute for us; presentation was always a strong point here and nothing has changed as all of our plates were simple and well organized. The wine list has great values and some choices not normally found in our area and they were very well priced for the quality of the wine.
Finally the prices are a real treat; how these guys prepare and serve food of this quality at these prices I will never understanding ....simply they have mastered the value and quality equation perfectly.
Welcome back and you were very much missed.

Review: We have made the trip from Little River to this restaurant many times for lunches during the past six years we have lived here. If you want a truly enjoyable meal, you will be so pleased. We eat out somewhere nearly every day; and it is right up there at the top of places to go. The spring rolls are especially terrific; and my husband adores the roast pork with spicy fried green tomatoes!
