Party of seven went and it was all excellent. Big crowd waiting to get seated and hostess told us it would be 30-35 minutes and it was about 25 minutes. Everyone ordered burgers and they were awesome.

Stay away. The place is filthy and the food is greasy. The place even smells like grease and is dark and moldy. No one cleans the tables and our chairs has ketchup from the previous patron.

A friend and I ate there last week. It was her first time and about my 5th time. So you know I would go back. What some people refer to as a dump is local flavor. It they do do appreciate it, I suggest they do NOT go back and have enough class to not trash the place. As far as me and my friend, we ate at a Resturant in Myrtle that we would not go back to( for much more money). We would go back to River City at Murrells Inlet in a heartbeat. They make the best burgers that you have ever put in your mouth and big crunchy onion rings.Car tags from everywhere are on the wall. The tags and wall are all signed. The place is local flavor and we loved it. It is clean, it is fun, the food is wonderful. The service was super. It was an adventure, It was a treat. One of life's little pleasure off the beaten path.

just got a to go order from the river city in murrells inlet. i got the river city philly and it was horrible. the two slices of meat that i got tasted rotten, the onions and peppers were under cooked, and there was more cheese than anything else on the sandwich. the best thing in the box were the fries and they were not good either. they were extremely greasy, under cooked, and there was a half of an uncut potato in the box. i dont know how that was not noticed while boxing up my food. needless to say i will not be coming back.

My family and i would just like to say that we have around 20 of us that travel all summer around the country. We have eaten at thousands of resturants. Handling such a big group can be a little testing at times. When we ate at the River City in Murrells Inlet we had the best server we have ever had. Her name was Christi she rememered everything, not an order was wrong. The food was great even though we came near to closing everyone was very cordial and inviting. We can't wait until we come back and we will be back to see Christi again.

First of all, I can't rate the food because my family and I left before eating after being repeatedly insulted by the angry server. When he first pulled into the parking lot, I was fairly certain I did not want to eat in a place that, as a reviewer before me put it, "looks like a garbage dump". Other family members were intent on trying it though, so we went inside. We were seated almost immediately, but they divided us into two different tables that were wobbly, dirty, and had mismatched chairs that were equally wobbly and dirty. We reluctantly sat down and my sister-in-law asked for a highchair for her one year old daughter. The server sighed and got the highchair. My sister-in-law placed the highchair at the end of the table, the ONLY PLACE you can possibly put it. When the server saw this, she angrily told us to move the highchair because it was in her way. When we asked where we should put it, she said something like "I don't care, just move it." and walked away. We didn't move it (partly because it was NOT in her way, as she had easily walked around it before and there was only one other table beyond it, where the rest of our family was sitting). Although we were shocked by her rudeness, we were prepared to look over it. But then she began badgering us for our orders. This was our first time in the restaurant and we had been there a total of around ten minutes. We asked for a little more time and she rolled her eyes, sighed loudly, and stomped off. After she did this two more times, in two minute intervals, we finally got fed up and walked out. To be fair, this visit took place a couple of years ago, but I just found this site and figured I would share my experience with other potential diners. I sincerely hope that angry server has been replaced and they have cleaned the place up a bit, maybe bought some decent tables and chairs. I wouldn't know, however, because I never intend to go back.

We are headed back to Myrtle beach in June and look forward to taking our daughter and grandson there! I can't wait to see the little guy's face when they bring out the onion rings! We went here on the high recommendation of our friends. I was disappointed in the cheeseburger and fries that I got. My burger was dried out and the home-cut fries were dry and crunchy. My husband was pleased with his ranch burger although it was messy. And while the "autographs" all over everything and the peanut shells on the floor are part of the atmosphere here, it made be feel that the place wasn't as clean as it might have been. Next time I want a good burger, I'm going to Chili's.

We have eaten at the resurant every year for over 10 years, it's always the first place we go when we arrive at the beach. I even have a license plate hanging on the wall. This year was the worst service I've ever experienced, the help is awful. The were steady but not overly busy. We always start with a great order of Grouper fingers but this year they had run out. I'm unsure if this is a management issue or exactly wait happened, but this resturant went from a 10 in 2008 to a 2 in 2009.

Had no idea what to expect for food until we reviewed the menu. the prices were excellent so we gave it a try. Went to the Murrell's Inlet resturant. It was just what we wanted after a day at the beach. The atmosphere was very casual, there was no wait at 6:30 pm and the food was the best. Nothing was left on the table except for a scrap that my daughter saved for the kitties. I would definitly reccomend it and will return on our next visit to South Carolina.

What can I say. We are six Canadians on vacation, and today we paid a return visit to the cafe in Murrell's Inlet. We had eaten there a couple of years ago and remember it as having been reasonably decent. Well. Lunch today was horrific. We waited to be seated, but didn't mind, as it was busy and the people in line with us were pleasantly chatty. When we were seated, we were told by the waitress that she might, or might not, remember to assign the three checks to we three couples, as it was busy. OK. We waited forever for food, were never spoken to by our busy (and glum) server until she came to collect our dishes, never offered drink refills, and the food, except for the chowder, was greasy and awful. Don't take your customers for granted, people!

My husband ordered blackened grouper sandwich - best he ever had....still talks about it... Can't wait to go back and have another. Daughter ordered bacon burger it was da bomb.... Son ordered wings they were very good... All in all, this place rocked... We signed our name to the table and that was cool..

We have visited this rest. (in Murrells Inlet) several times and have enjoyed it every time. It is a fun place to go, "kid friendly", food is excellent esp. the burgers, onion rings, fresh chicken tenders and "loaded" sandwiches. It's always fun to sit and snack on the peanuts, throw the shells on the floor and chat while your food is prepared. The service is excellent and wait time for food is not long. I would recommend this place for everyone but most esp. for those with children.

Don't quite understand a lot of these so so reviews on River City Cafe. We found this place about 6 years ago on our annual golfing trip and have been going every since. If you want a great cheeseburgr and fries then you must not miss this place. Wait staff is very friendly and food comes out hot and fast. The only thing that could be a problem is the stray cats that come up to yur table if you sit outside. This year was the first year I noticed the cats.

Every time we drove past the River City Cafe there were people outside waiting to be seated, the car park was packed and it looked like a fun place to go. So the other Saturday at lunchtime, when it was a little quieter, still a 10 minute wait, we gave it a go. Our jaws fell to the floor when once inside, all the shells on the floor, it was.....different. I had grouper sandwich, my daughter had a kids meal, and my wife had a burger. The food was great the beer cold and would suggest everyone try it at least once, we wanted to go back again but only had a couple of days left on our trip, so didn't make it. Don't get dressed up and take a marker to do some graffiti on the wall or anything else for that matter. Thumbs up from this side of the pond!

We went to River City Cafe in Aug. 2008. We went for dinner around 7:00pm and had to wait around 30min. for a table. We liked the inside of the restaurant and we wish we had brought a sharpe pen to sign our table or wall. Our waitress was wonderful, the best we had at any restaurant in MB. We ordered the bufflo chicken sandwich and cheeseburger's. Everyone liked the bufflo chicken sandwich it was very good but hot! I would eat at RCC again but this time I'd bring a sharpe!

We have ate at the one in Murrells Inlet for years. However; last year one found another one near the strip and have started eating there b/c it is closer to our beach house. We are so excited that they have now made the inside area a non smoking area. My fiance loves the hamburgers-he swears that the hamburgers are the best on the beach, and the hotdogs are good too. Go all the way and get the onion petals..Also look for the coupon in the coupon books...

This is a local chain that is owned by divine. The place was good, it is a burger place, so I would recommend that. I had the fried seafood, and it was ok, however, the burgers were great. It is important to realize that seafood is not in the main play book here. Otherwise, it was a fun place to go.

I'm a local gal and I like this place. I don't order the fries though because everytime I've tried them they are way too greasy. I do like the fried mushrooms even though something tells me they come frozen from the Southern Foods truck. The burgers are excellent as is the grouper sandwich. Eating the peanuts is fun and you feel totally wrong throwing them on the floor but do it anyway. Try it and you should like it. Casual dining and decent price for the food. Always had a great server too.

A friend suggested we try River City Cafe and highly recommended their burger selections. My hubbie (the red meat eater) fell in love at first bite. He has tried several of the burger variations and has yet to declare any one his "favorite" I had grouper fingers the first time we ate here, then a grouper sandwich the next time, and on our way back home we stopped in for lunch and had more burgers and more grouper. The burgers were perfectly cooked, toppings plentiful, buns delicious, both fries and onion rings very tasty and not greasy. As you probably guessed, I loved the grouper - moist and flaky tender whether in fingers or on a bun - again not at all greasy. We've ate at Murrell's Inlet (love the porch, the license plates, and writing on walls) and on 21st Ave (love the heated porch outdoors in late December-can watch the cars go by!) Last year took my mom with us - she wanted to eat there every day and still regrets not buying a t-shirt! She and my daughter tried Oysters, grouper fingers, shrimp . . . loved them all. We will definitely be back. I hear Surfside has a great ocean view!

We have been coming to Surfside Beach for twenty years and we only just found River City 4 years ago. It's the one place never miss while on vaction. You can sign the walls ,the windows, my 20 years old daughter even signed one of the waiters. It's always fun and the food is great (but don't use the bathrooms). It's great to bring friends, the facial expressions are priceless. We had our picture taken at River City and came home to Canada and put it in the local paper all because we love the place.

If vacationing in the Myrtle Beach area I highly recommend making a trip to Murrells Inlet and to the River City Cafe. Don't let the appereance of the place discourage you, you'll find some of the best food along the Grand Strand inside. It always tops my list of places to eat while on vacation. The burgers, hot dogs and bloomin' onion are great, but it's the chili cheese fries that keeping me going back.

River City Cafe is a great place for an inexpensive meal, when you don't feel like getting dressed to go to a nice restaurant. I love the rustic look of the place, although I prefer eating outside on the porch. The burgers are good, but the fried mushrooms and onion rings are the best! I prefer the Murrells Inlet location to the others.

If you are looking for a casual, inexpensive place to eat with your family, try the River City Cafe. We ate at two different locations (Murrells Inlet and Barefoot Landing) and both had terrific food. I loved the grilled grouper sandwich and the chicken patty melt. My husband and sons had the burgers, fries and fabulous wings. The price is right, too. My kids liked it so much that they wanted to eat here every day. They liked that they could throw their peanut shells on the floor and sign their names to the walls. Definitely try this place. Enjoy.

My sister and her family had been to this restaurant several times in the past for late lunches and had been pleased with it; however, our experience that night was horrible. First, we were warned that our request for separate checks would cause additional delays, so we opted to put everything on one check (even though the eleven of us had to be seated at two separate tables). I hate to think how much longer it might have taken because we waited nearly an hour for our meal. Hamburgers and French fries are hardly cordon bleu fare, so we are still wondering why it took so long. The buns were cold and hard; the burgers were mediocre; the French fries were inedible (greasy, limp, cold). The manager was apologetic, but it was obvious that the kitchen was understaffed and the waitresses overwhelmed. I'll go somewhere else next summer!

Our Family went on July 12 to the River City Cafe in Murrells Inlet. As usual the food was GREAT!!!.....I had the Grouper sandwich which you MUST TRY!!!....Very moist and flavorable. An excellant value also as compared to other restaurants serving similar items. Our other family members had items such as the Patty Melt; Cheese and Onions and the Classic. All good choices. But you would not expect a great fish sandwich from a Burger Joint. If you go please try as you won't be disappointed. The service and atmosphere were normal ( Prompt and Pleasing )....Thank you!

River City Cafe is our perinneal favorite place to eat in Myrtle Beach. The first time I went there was 1986 as a teenager...and we have been back every year since!

It's not so much the food...it's everything. The nice, attentive wait staff...the salted peanuts with shells on the floor...the old license plates on the walls...the decor (or lack thereof)...and yes, the burgers are very good and reasonably priced.

We usually go there at least twice during our annual beach trip, once to the one in Murrell's Inlet and sometimes we also visit the oceanfront one in Surfside Beach.

Note - one time my wife's burger had a spot of mold on the bun, and we pointed it out to the manager. He immediately gave us our entire meal (all 3 of us) for free, and was very nice and apologetic. Now THAT is good customer service.

Used to be a regular for several years at this location until recently. It seems the owner has thrown in the towel and given up on providing quality food and service. My past few visits have left a bad taste in my mouth in regards to both service and quality. The service is what i would consider sub-par with the mangement staff being less than concerned for the customers experience. My opinion.... This place needs to figure out what they had 5 years ago and get back to the basics

River City Cafe in Murrell's Inlet SC used to be the best burger joint available, south of the Mason Dixon line. The atmosphere was original, with initials carved into the tables, ancient (but real) license plates hung on the walls, peanut shell shards on the floors, and a feeling of conviviality. Huge and fresh onion rings, great fries, cold beer, and fresh burgers made to order with blackened cajun spices or blue cheese set RCC above the rest. However, when a new franchise opened in Surfside Beach, it seemed as if the original intent evaporated from both places. More scanty burgers, wearing only a vestige of their original and former flavor, replaced the great surprise on the plate. I must say, however, that the River City Cafe in Murrell's Inlet still retains a vestige of its original charm. In Surfside, it is merely one more restaurant south of Myrtle Beach suffering from ennui and competition, poor servers, and higher mortgage. The RIVER CITY CAFE lost its edge, IMO.

We are a group of locals that have given this restaurant several chances to redeem themselves. Kitchen seems to ingore 'special instructions' with an order, manager has declined to assist a problem situation on two occassions, and in general, there are SO many other places to have a nice dinner with no aggrevation that we strongly feel this eatery should be avoided. Trust us...for an enjoyable dining experience, go elsewhere!

Well, I went to the River City Cafe in Murrells Inlet, and oh my goodness, I had to wait 30 minutes outside for my table. Then, when I got to sit down and ordered, me and my family waited AT LEAST an hour until they even told us it was coming! Finally, after serving everyone else who came in AFTER us, we got our food. Which was good none the less, but my dad makes the same kind of hamburgers for 50 minutes less of the wait and no charge. But, the one in Surfside is beautiful. The outside view is amazing of the beach, very nice enviroment, and great service! :D

Being a family of 5, we are very budget conscious. River City Cafe is very affordable...burgers run $5-$7. The Blooming Onion was HUGE! I had the bacon ranch burger A+++! The kids had cheeseburger and grouper fingers. We also tried their cheddar & bacon fries, and my husband ordered a burger (although I don't remember which one!) We loved the food, the atmosphere is GREAT for kids, (they loved "breaking all the rules") and the price is right for those watching their wallets. Don't forget to take a Sharpie marker! You will love it!

I just moved to MB, and thought that I would try it out. I would not say that it is fine dining, with Peanut shells all over the floor. As far as the food goes, it was good, services was very prompt. Nice looking waiters (one in particular) no name mentioned. The atomosphere was very down to earth, there was some comfort level there. The price was not bad. I've seen worse. The noise level was nothing out of the ordinary for that type of environment. Keep up the good service, and I think that I may be coming back.

We love River City Cafe. A friend told us that we had to try it so we went on our second day of vacation. I was a little sceptical because it looks kind of dirty. Once we got our food, we were hooked. We went back three more times before our vacation was over. The mushrooms are killer and so is the view. You have to eat on the balcony outside. If you're going to Myrtle Beach you have to go River City Cafe!

River City is a MUST! We have eaten at River City Cafe at least once (sometimes twice) every time we have gone to Myrtle Beach for the past seven years. And, we already have plans of stopping for lunch after one of our morning rounds of golf. The RC burger is my personal favorite, while others like the bleu cheese or peanut butter burgers. There are about 20 different kinds of burgers all are GREAT! Look forward to seeing you next week!
