Made reservations for 8:00 p.m and didn't get seated till 8:45p.m. Upon being seated there was underage drinking in front of the cook who was edging it on for more who was also taking shots. When the food was finished we had a small portion of rice and also a small portion of chicken and which the total of two people was. $45.00. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Which was a horrible experience and will never go back!!

We live in north myrtle beach through the summer and absolutely love this restaurant. It's really hard to find good Hibachi food and this is it. We don't eat sushi but have heard wonderful things. I have 6 kids so finding a kid friendly place is a a plus and this is our favorite place down here. We have called an hour before arrival for reservations and gotten them with no problem. Walk in and within minutes we are seated. Staff there is great. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good fun dinner!!!

My family had 6:30 reservations. We were seated around 7:15. The restaurant was sweltering. Everyone including our server was miserable. some kid actually threw up he was so hot. Our chef had no personality. This was the worse japanese restaurant ever. The food was disgusting. My aunt spoke to the manager 4 times. She asked for the owners name and number and the manager gave the. number to the restaurant and was very rude. I couldn't eat my food It was disgusting I sent it back. Don't go there.

We are locals and have tried other most of the other Japanese places. Nakato's is by far the best---they only use chicken breast, you get noodles and rice and can ask for changes in food.....broccoli and squash only, no egg in the rice, etc. We have always had good service, large servings of food and polite, helpful servers and cooks. Take a chance, pass Miyabi's and give Nakoto's a try. The early bird is a great value and they also have a senior menu.

I have never been to a restaurant where the hostess has absolutely no idea how to seat people! There is no need to make reservations because if you do, you will still end up waiting quite a while. They just seat people basically based on how much they complain, rather than seating people with reservations first. We waited for a while as we watched the hostess seat people who didn't have reservations and people who were complaining before us. They basically just have to clue how to seat people and Nakato obviously needs to figure out the correct order you are suppose to seat people in or they will continue to lose business! The worst part of it all was that once we actually got to sit down, we were put at a crowded table with horrible service while we watched the table in front of us get seated maybe five minutes after us and those people walked in about 45 minutes after us.

I've been coming here since I moved to Myrtle Beach 4 years ago. I've watched the steady decline in service and quality. There must of been a management change or something because I refuse to walk into this place ever again. With Miyabi's a few places down, I will not be inconvenienced in the least. To be more specific, our last visit left us at a table of 6, not full by any mean's. It took us 10 minutes after placing our order to receive the drinks. And then another 10 for just the soup. From sit down to soup, 20 minutes elapsed. After leaving the table to just have sushi at the bar, the waitress made a little scene and proceeded to ask the rest of the table if they were "happy". Instead of correcting the issue, she decided to take the ridicule route. Amanda should of been fired on the spot. But alas, being the managers sister, I knew nothing would happen. The sushi bar is nice, the bartenders friendly, but everything else just sucks. I feel the manager could of done more to correct the situation. But just avoided us as she passed back and forth. I found this odd considering she usually speaks to us to see how everything is. The waitress even came into the bar and stared us down as we ate our sushi. It was very creepy. As a local, working at a high traffic retail establishment; Nakato's will soon be out of business simply because I will inform every curious tourist that Nakato's is the last Japanese steak house they want to try. Word of mouth kills.

It was my son's birthday, we had 12 in our party which included two 8 yr olds, a 2 yr. old and an eight month old. We were totally unaware until they had us seated that we would be divided and have two separate chefs. The did come out and tell us and we thought no big deal we can still enjoy each other. Wrong, it was a very stressful. My husband the two year old and I were seated on the other side and I ordered two appetizers with a nice wine. As our chef was serving everyone else pasta Our two year old grandson was holding his plate up to the chef asking him for some too and the chef served everyone on the right except our grandson. He then turned around and dumped the pasta in the trash. What a disappointed little boy. My husband immediately shared some of his pasta with him. What my grandson learned from a grown up that night tells me a great deal about management/ownership. They may as well have slapped my face and I am still spitting mad. Our family has celebrated birthdays at Nakato's for 30 years. It was our last...we have all decided this was poor rude service and we will not return again. Food not that great and the odor permeates everything. PF Chang's service and food are superior and first class.

We are from about 45 minutes from MB, so I guess we could be called semi-locals. We go to MB many times over the course of a year, and usually eat at a Japanese steakhouse. The customer service at Nakato's sucks. The last time we were there, they had changed the times for the early bird special, but the menus did not reflect this change. When we ordered the specials, our waiter took our order, and then returned several minutes to "advise" us of the change. We spoke to the manager to no avail. Long story short---we won't be back.

The food was absolutely wonderful. The prices were very reasonable. The bartenders did a great job in helping us decide on what type of Sushi to get. BTW, the Myrtle Beach rolls are to die for. The chef didn't put on as much of a show as some, but he was friendly and nice. We ate here on our last night in MB and it was a wonderful way to end a great vacation.

07/14/2010 I have probably been to at least 10 different Japanese restaurants. This was the best Japanese restaurant we have ever been too. The food and service was great. I ordered steak and shrimp. It came with rice, noodles and vegetables. It was so good. The chef was awesome. He had the best sense of humor. He did all the tricks and joked with the group. We laughed all night. We took two people that had never been and it was a great experience. We even took a picture of the chef with our group. This will be great memories!

Chef was terrible. Did not provide a show for the kids. The only part of show that he tried is where he could not make a vacano versus the other chefs. Never refilled our shrimp sauce. Had an attitude with making the extra fried rice ordered. Compared to other Japanese Resturants and other Nakato Resturants, we will never go there again and not recommend that other go there.

We went while on vacation to the Early Bird Special as 2 adults and 4 teenagers. In the summer, get there around 4 as it got busy not long after that. The meals were significantly less expensive on the early bird menu than the regular menu e.g. Hibachi Steak for $11 rather than $18. Our food was great, the chef was personable and kept up a conversation. The portions were generous. I would go back again.

We are locals and used to always take our company to this restaurant. We recently visited with a large party and we were seated first upon opening. We were the LAST to be served. I asked for the manager. Upon the arrival to our tabel he told me that our cook was on his way and then walked off. I spoke with the General Manager next who was beyond RUDE. She dismissed our concerns, said that we were not seated first (we were first), and also walked off. I followed her to the front where she called our party rude and offered no apology for the horrible service. While I was in mid-sentance, she greeted a person applying for a job and walked off again. It took us 2.5 hrs from our arrival to departure! We had four kids in our party who had fallen asleep from waiting so long. I called the owner and complained. We will never go back after being treated so rudely. I cannot believe how unprofessional the management staff was. They were confrontational from the moment they arrived at our table. At one point, when I was complaining how rude the first manager was, I was told "you misunderstood him, you are in a japanese steakhouse, there is a language barrier"....the manager was not japanese! I have read there are other similiar experiences on here...the restaurant needs to get back to putting their customer first. My guests were disgusted by the scene that was caused when we tried to bring up our issue...we will never return to this establishment again. POOR MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!!! Too many places at the beach to eat, you do not have to put up with rudeness!

The food was delicious and the chef was fun and entertaining. We particularly appreciate how the chef interacted with our son who has cerebral palsy and special dietary needs. This part of the experience was excellent - food taste and quality and the entertainment provided by the chef. On the negative side is the rip-off of charging us $10 dollars to "celebrate" my in-laws anniversary. We had 11 people in our party, all paying for full priced meals plus drinks. However, Nakato charged us $10 to sing a song, take a digital photo, and provide cake for the celebration. The photo was fine. The song was lame, and the "cake" turned out to be a single slice of cake. Let me repeat - a single slice of cake. Not even two slices of cake for the two people celebrating the anniversary. What a rip-off. Do not celebrate any family event at this restaurant. If you do, be warned. You will be charged an extra $10 for nothing. This restaurant should be ashamed of itself. We easily spent $250 - $300 for our meal. They tacked on an extra $10 for a lousy celebration and a single slice of cake. As much as I liked the meal, I will not return to this restaurant out of principal. We visit the MB area at least once per year and sometimes more. We will not return to Nakato as long as I can breath and speak my mind about these rip-off artists.

Worst experience ever at this location. I go to the locations in Charlotte NC all the time. Food is always good. My wife ordered soft shell crab appetizer $7.50. She tasted it and thought it tasted bad and asked my opinion. I too thought it was not good at all. We sent it back and the manager got sooo upset and said we could not get our money back for it. Meanwhile we had over 12 people at our table and spent over $200 in food and the manager is complaining about $7.50.

What ever happened to customer being right and making the customer happy. I did not feel like we were asking too much. If something is not good it should be taken off bill.

I will never go back to this restaurant again but not because of the food but because they do not know how to take care of customer.

Our family visits MB several times every year, and Nakato is one that we make a point to go to. We love to dine out, but have to watch the $$ to do so as often as we like. Even though we aren't typical Early-birder's, we do take advantage of their early dinner specials- they give great value for the $$- (note: the Early Bird hours may change from season to season) Quality and quantity of food is impressive- we always wind up bringing plenty of leftovers home for another lunch. I also enjoy the Mai Tai's served at Nakato- mixed just right every time! Chefs are entertaining esp. for the kids. I think there must be a special joke-book for the hibachi chefs since every Japanese steakhouse seems to recycle the jokes amongst them all! ;- ) We have eaten at Nakato many times and all our experiences have been positive. We will continue to be their customers for years to come!

We arrived tonight at 6:55pm and were quickly seated with another family of four. There are four of us - 42 yo husband, 32 yo wife, 7 yo sushi-eating son and 4 yo picky-eater second son. Although our chef wasn't really flashy (I've lived in Okinawa and been to several of the Kobe beef places that are similar to this and they don't throw the knives either), I thought this visit was as close to Japan Steakhouses (for what they are) as it gets. I ordered hot saki (very good, very hot!), the wife had a white russian (large glass provided) and we ordered the usual assortment of food (chicken, steak, shrimp). I also ordered a sushi roll (yellowtail and scallion, excellent) that my son and I ate. All in all, the food quality was not only superior to the place down the street, the portions were significantly better, and they served a variety of side items we didn't expect, but were a hit with our kids. Nakato, you have our business!

I was SO impressed with this japanese steakhouse!! We have gone to Miyabi's up the street for years but we could not get reservations one night and tried Nakato's. We were hesitant to try a different place but it was our best meal our entire, weeklong visit. Highly recommended. Hard to please 9 family members and after leaving this restaurant, I didn't hear one complaint, only praise. You can't miss this meal!!
