Italian Restaurant in Pawleys Island

Landolfi's
Rated: 0 out of 5 with 1 Reviews

Quaint, casual, comfortable little restaurant. Brick oven (wood fired) pizza, paninis and homemade, out of this universe, pastries. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Concerning the review done on 12/18/12 I was having dinner with friends when the scene with this reviewer transpired. His interpretation of the happening was not as he claims. The disturbance was caused by himself and his wife and not by the restaurant owner or bartender. When his credit card was rejected( on the very first swipe !!) , the owner and bartender were polite in handling the situation. The two of them were the ones who caused a scene with their rude behavior . I mean, how could you pitch a violent fit over YOUR card being decided? How is that the owners fault ? I’ve been a regular patron of Landolfi’s since it opened. No matter where you are seated whether it be inside, at the bar or on the porch that is complete with a wood burning fireplace in cooler weather the service is prompt and polite even when the place is full and the kitchen is at its busiest. You will find me with family and friends there on a weekly basis.

I was there the night the previous reviewer was at Landolfis. What he didn't know was, although he doesn't know me, I knew of him from Waccamaw Management in Pawleys, a local property management firm. He was having what seemed to be an enjoyable evening, chatting it up with one bartender in particular UNTIL his card was denied. I was appalled at the way he and his female friend/or wife conducted themselves. This is a small tight-nit community, and my dining friends and I have never seen such a spectacle in our town before. His card was denied on the very first swipe, NOT the 19th !!!! The owner came out and very discretely tried to satisfy the two of them, we all saw it. all to which his female cohort started pointing her finger in the owners face, yelling, "this is not OUR problem , it's yours, you have a faulty machine,we are leaving !!" repeatedly. You could clearly see the owner was trying to keep the situation on the down low, but the two of them obviously wanted to create a huge scene, in what we could only guess was their attempt to avoid their bill. Then after calling his bank and getting the hold off his card ,while finally signing his payment, he looked at the owner and loudly called him an As#ho@e,yelling out " I will destroy your business", and his female partner yelled out loud, calling the bartenders Bit$hes !!!! At this point the owner stepped out to call the police, and another patron was getting involved, telling the two of them who the true problems were, while the bartenders and a few more locals that were pretty big guys got behind him trying to persuade him to "just leave" Except for one couple only , the room was filled with locals who know each other , we were all were in shock when they finally stormed out, all the while still spouting out their foul language. The owner and his wife actually showed some people we know the surveillance camera video of her finger pointing and him jumping out of his seat, and getting within a few inches of the owners face as he yelled at him !!! My friend and I love going to Landolfi's on a regular basis, and love everything from the people, the food, the positive energy, and the atmosphere there. The place wouldn't be so adored by locals if it were any other way. It's one of the only places still busy in the off season, year after year . As the owner , shaken and stunned, said after the two of finally them left, " I hope I never see them in this establishment again............ but I can only feel sorry for my fellow restaurant owners who have to deal with them" I couldn't agree more.

The first time we went to Landolfi's was when we moved here this past summer. We went in for happy hour and got no service for 15 minutes and walked out. The second time we went in it was a couple weeks later when it wasn't quite as busy. We sat at the bar and I am not sure if the waitress/bartender was having a bad day or not. Our service was sub-par and there was a waiter behind the bar brushing his hair, another waitress eating a sandwich, and what appeared to be an off duty waitress watching TV and constantly changing the channel.

Well, the other night we went to another establishment down the road and were treated very well. I thought "Why not give Landolfi's one more chance?" So we went in and sat at the bar. We ordered two drinks and an appetizer. We got our drinks and were eating a bite, so far we were having a decent time. We decided to order a pizza to take home with us, so we ordered one to go, I also went to the other side of the restaurant and ordered some dessert for us as well. So it comes down for us to pay. I give the girl my debit card and she returns and says "your card is declined." I tell her that it must be a mistake because I just used it at the other restaurant, and I had plenty of money in my account (I verified this on my phone to make sure something hadn't happened). The waitress was starting to give me attitude like I was poor or something and said that it was my fault. I told her to please try and run it again, she did-I got the same result. She showed me the receipt and it said "not captured." I did not know what this meant so I asked to speak with the manager because she was obviously not willing to try and help me figure this out. The manager came out with a HUGE attitude and asked if I wanted to use another card, I said "no because this one has money on it." He begrudgingly went to the back and ran my card. He came up with the same error message-"not captured." At this point the entire bar was looking at us. I decided to call my bank-My bank proceeded to tell me that Landolfi's had not swiped my card correctly or the company they use to process cards was not doing it correctly. My bank put a block on my card because they felt there was fraudulent activity due to Landolfi's trying to run/process my card 19 times!!!!!! I had to verify some information with my bank for them to remove the block and they told me to wait 90 seconds to swipe and I should be fine. I asked for the manager again to let him know that my card was blocked for the possibility of fraudulent activity and he proceeded to say "So it wasn't our fault then was it? I was in shock to be talked to this way. He went in the back and ran my card and it went through just fine! I proceeded to tell him that we would not be back because of horrible customer service. Then the waitress chimed in and said "Well if you used a card with money on it we would not have had this problem!" WOW! I proceeded to tell the owner that he should be kind to locals as we help support their business during the non peak season. His reply was "Do you want me to kiss your as* just because your a local?" I have NEVER been talked to like this in any restaurant-even in New Jersey where these people are from. The customer service in real Jersey restaurants puts these people to shame! I learned through all this that the manager was the owner. He proceeded to call me an as* hole and other choice words. As I was leaving he flipped me off in front of the rest of the patrons. This place is anything but classy! I am sure they will respond to this vigorously with comments to rebut what I have said, don't believe a word. I went into my office the next day and most people were not shocked at all by what had happened. People were telling me similar stories. Some of my co-workers said"you should of asked me before going there, but I guess you had to find out the hard way!" This is truly a disappointment as they have lost a customer and all the people I know for life! there are many better options out there that actually treat their customers with respect. Go elsewhere!

Another family owned spot you don't want to miss. The pizza is great, wood fired oven, and it is made for an individual so you can get on it what you like, even anchovies (YUM!). But...the best comes last...the deserts are all home made on the spot...chocolate decadence will cure your chocolate craving for at least a year! Nice folks, great outside bar and lounge...and the onwer is the biggest Philadelphia Flyers fan in the world!

Landolfi's is tying to train their customers to be tolerant of their inadequacies. There is apparently only one person in the restaurant who can cook pizza. When that person leaves for lunch, between 4 and 5 in the afternoon, no pizza's are served. When the staff is overwhelmed (most always) their service is horrible and their attitudes worse. Their bad day cannot help but translate into your bad service experience. And yet, they actually expect you to be understanding and give them a break. It is my meal and my experience. I am happy to pay for a decent meal, but really? Really? Act like you care if I come back. I have given them too many chances both on and off season I am DONE!!!!

We discovered this gem while touring Pawley's Island and have come back once or twice a week every time we vacation in Garden City. We love the remodeled bar/eating area and have never had bad service or food. When asked by my family where they want to vacation - the first thing I hear is Landolfi's even though it is not a place to stay! We always purchase several deserts to eat throughout the week and come back for more at the end of our vacation. Brick oven pizzas, chicken salad and cheesesteak are fabulous! See you soon!!!!

I hope the South Carolina community appreciates the fantastic pastries Landolfi's provide. The business originally began in downtown Trenton, New Jersey. NO bakery in the New Jersey area has come close to producing the amazing rum cakes they use to make. Word has it that Landolfi's does not sell rum cakes in South Carolina because there was not much of a market for it. BIG MISTAKE!

A friend of mine had heard about Landolfi's. We stopped at about 6PM on a Saturday night. Unlike other reviewers, we had a short wait time & I personally didn't find the noise to be that much of an issue. The food was phenomenal - by far the best panini sandwich I've ever had (roasted eggplant, prosciutto, gorgonzola cheese) - yummy! And a cannoli to die for. I'm a South Jersey native but have lived in the Charleston area for 22 years. I was very impressed & plan to go back!

This place is by far my FAVORITE place to eat... I love the food and the atmosphere is quaint and charming... I have never had anything bad on the menu and I take everyone that comes for a visit here to eat. So far I have had no complaints. The parking is a bit lacking but for great food, I can deal with it. The inside just was added onto and in the spring and fall eating outside is wonderful. It makes you feel loike you are in Charleston....

My family owns a condo in Pawleys Island and we make a special trip to this restaurant every time we are down there. This restaurant is very popular with the locals--always a good sign. Avoid peak dining times if you don't want to wait. They are closed Sundays and Mondays and most holidays. The atmosphere is quaint and the restaurant and bathrooms are very clean. The service is always outstanding. The sandwiches are decent (the philly cheesesteak is a favorite of mine), but the brick oven pizzas and fresh salads are really the big draw. Don't fill up on the main course though because most people come specifically for the desserts. I often leave with two or three to last me throughout the week because they are all made fresh daily. I especially recommend the chocolate decadance, peanut butter cheesecake, and red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, but really everyone I've ever taken there has been happy with any dessert they've ordered. Prices are very reasonable.

After hearing only good things about this restaurant - on several occasions I attempted to eat there - but there was always some problem. No parking, a private party in session, no seating available. The size of the place is not very comfortable or inviting - - and noisy and chaotic. The staff seem overwhelmed and, understandably - are not very personable. The one time I did eat there, the 'roast pork' panini (toasted) sandwich, was not as described on the menu. It appeared to be just slices of cold cut variety (toasted), rather than real 'roasted' pork. The table and chairs are uncomfortably so close to each other ...Overall, dining there was not a pleasant experience.

I have no hesitation in saying that Landolfi's has the best pizza in South Carolina, and I believe I have done enough "research" to make that a meaningful statement.

They also have absolutely killer desserts, in particular, the Tiramisu, the Chocolate Decadence and the Key Lime Pie.

You may want to go at an "off" hour as the place gets quite busy during prime lunch hours, and remember it is only open for dinner Thursday through Saturday.

On the way to Edisto Island for vacation, my family was looking for absolutely anything that we could find to eat on the road. As we saw our choices narrowing the farther we got away from Pawleys, I saw the sign for tiny little Landolfi's and suggested we try it out, even though it may not be good since it was just a little tucked-away cafe on the side of the road. I was so wrong, and I must say I was delighted at my mistake!! Most everyone in my family got brick-oven pizzas, which were wonderful. I ordered a panini and ate the entire thing. Somehow we all managed to fit in dessert, but we couldn't have resisted since the selection was displayed before us in a glass case. The chocolate cake and strawberry shortcake were perfect- and complimented each other, for that matter. I recommend this to anyone. AN EXCELLENT CHOICE, though you would never guess as you drive down the road and could almost blink and miss it.
