Diners Beware! Ten minutes after leaving (and paid by debit card) multiple charges on my account started to emerge from Cincinnati to Michigan all online purchases walmart.com My card was canceled and luckily little hassle after. Representative from the bank said likely my numbers were stolen by a server from this restaurant. If you go pay by cash.

Love this place! The margaritas are killer (they have top shelf margaritas with fresh squeezed lime juice, agave nectar, and 100% agave Tequila), the salsa is incredible, and the menu has a lot of authentic Mexican dishes. Plus, the family that owns the restaurant (including the "La Playa girls") recognize us every time we come to visit for our annual family vacation. My wife and I go to Vegas often, so we've had really good Mexican food, and La Playa is my favorite Mexican restaurant other than a couple of Mexican restaurants in Vegas and one in Arizona.

This is, hands down, the best Mexican restaurant on the Strand. Period. A great menu, varied, lots of items, all well made. Always served hot. And very nice interior. The wife and I will drive the 30 miles from N. Myrtle when we want a treat. Seriously, never had a bad meal. And nowhere on the menu is there anything called a "Speedy Gonzales" special.

I did not think I liked mexican food, but my wife does. We visited Pawleys Island recently and the staff at our condo highly recommended LaPlaya so we went. I now love mexican food, I have never had real mexican until now. Fantastic food, great variety and the freindliest staff I have ever seen. Huge selection of drinks and any questions the staff is there. The owners are there and it shows, great people, great esperience. In our opinion LaPlaya is a must do.

We go to Pawley's all the time and this is one of our favorite restaurants. They have a wonderful selection of flavored margaritas and the fried ice cream dessert is awesome. They flavor of the tacos and burritos is very good. I think this the best Mexican restaurant around the area. I plan to go back this Labor Day weekend.

I had to write this review and I have never done this but I thought I was going to get a fabulous meal. My husband and I have eaten mexican food all over the country in fine restaurants and little shacks and I have to say this is the worse food I have ever eaten and on top of it, it made us sick. My husband and I tend to eat Fajita nachos Chicken and fajita nachos steak. We actually had take out because our children don't like mexican food. My hubby had to wait for them to finish even though they told us 15 minutes and when my hubby got home which is less than a mile down the road, it was not hot but a little warm. When I opened my food, all I saw was yellow cheese, beans, guacamole, tomatoes, and onioons. I have NEVER seen yellow cheese on this dish and for good reason. It coagulates and hardens. It has ALWAYS been the white cheese that are on most of their dishes and the kind they use for cheese dip. After digging in my food I found 4 tiny pieces of steak and my husband found 6 pieces of chicken. We did eventually find a couple of pieces of peppers but so few you could not taste them. I tried to eat mine. It was gross. I ate about a 1/4 of mine and my husband 1/2 and we both ended up sick to our stomachs. I will never go back.

I am a local, and this is generally my first choice for a meal if I am eating out. The staff is very attentive and can turn out a quick meal or a longer, more leisurely one depending on my needs. The menu is extensive, and I have like everything that I have tried so far. While I tend to order repetitively the things I like, the staff is good about suggesting different things as well!

The best Mexican and most authentic we have found in the Myrtle Beach area. The sangria is excellent, not too sweet, and very much the way it tasted in Spain. The food is excellent and portions are large enough for two. The Pollo con Arroz is classic and delicious. The service was professional and courteous. Try the flan for dessert with a nice cup of coffee. Yum

Despite the large menu at La Playa, the food is very well executed. Carne Asada, excellent. Carnitas, mouth-watering. Margaritas, made with love. The staff is wonderfully friendly and attentive. We have been here 5 or 6 times and really enjoy it. Service is excellent and the food is authentic and tasty. I like the Chili Rellenos, they are the authentic version, not a "bell pepper stuffed with pureed hamburger" as a lot of Mexican places around here serve. The atmosphere of the restaurant is casual and fun, the prices reasonable, and the waiters cute!

We drove to LaPlaya from Garden City beach and it was well worth the drive. LaPlaya is wonderful! We all thoroughly enjoyed our food including appetizers and entrees like Seafood Enchillada's, Tacos and Burrittos etc. They feature food from the Carribean, Latin America and Mexican!

The food is authentic in all aspects and truly delicious. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was very nice.

If you're looking for something to spice up your dining experice LaPlaya is great!

This is the best Mexican/Latin food we have found since we left New Mexico's best. No real 'green chile' as in New Mexico but what they use is very good. We sampled their 'green chile' stew and it was excellent !! Absoulutley the best 'Guacamole' I have ever had. Lots of food for the price and very nice folks. Great table salsa with chips starter.

My wife and I moved here from Northern Virginia about ten years ago and have been looking for a really good Mexican restaurant since that time. Although there are several decent restaurants serving Mexican cuisine, none really met our expectations until the La Playa opened. We are particularly fond of enchiladas, which the La Playa serves in many variations. The Restaurant also serves a number of other Latin American dishes such as the Jamaican Jerk and several Cubano entrees. Most of the servers are of Hispanic heritage and very friendly and helpful. There is also entertainment on occasion with a Hispanic singer/guitarist. If you are looking for excellant Latin-American (with an emphasis on Mexican) food, I recommend the La Playa.

The best Mexican food I've ever eaten!!! They also offer Cuban and Carribean authentic food. The spices are a whole new experience!

Everyone at our table was overly pleased with their meal. I'm the pickiest eater and I can always tell if the food has any chemicals or preservatives or isn't fresh, La Playa was perfect!!!!

The only problem was the seating we were given, in the booth section.

The corner booths were given to a large party with lots of children, the acoustics of the place made it so if you were seated near this corner, you could hear everything they said magified. This group was so loud we couldn't even hear each other.

If you go there, ask to be seated far away from the booth corner!!
