We never miss an opportunity to dine at J Edward's. Everything we've ever had was very good to excellent. Service is the best on the Strand and "Eddie" usually stops by to say hello. Forget about the decor, it's the food and service that counts. I'm going back to Myrtle Beach in two weeks and I'm already looking forward to my visit to J Edward's.

Our family of five adults went for the early bird menu Monday March 1, 2010. We were seated promptly in the smoking section per our request. We ordered appetizers as well as entrees that included salads. Unlike most restaurants we've visited in Myrtle (we've lived here over 21 yrs.) the delivery of eah course was perfectly timed so that we felt neither rushed or neglected. Our server, Mitch did a fine job & J.E. himself stopped by our table-never had an owner do that before. I'm a hotel employee & will recommend J. Edwards evey chance I get. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience!

Went to J. Edwards last night a Tuesday night in January and when we were ready to order around 6:30 we were informed that they were out of ribs. This is what they are known for RIBS! It is Tuesday night in January and they are out of ribs. Are you kidding me. The restaurant was very slow only a few tables there. Our server took our order, brought our food ( mine was not very warm), and brought our check and that was it! No refills, no small talk, no nothing1

My wife and I have been eating at J Edwards more years than I like to think about. I was first stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB in 1957 (before J Edwards opened) and two other times after that. We visit the resturant 3 - 4 times a year. Highly recommend the Early Bird special for two - ribs, chicken, pork, potato, salad, bread. Try the onion loaf with the meal -- not as an apetizer. Everything about the place is outstanding.

My daughters and I ate there at the first of our beach trip, it was totally delicious. The filets melted in our mouths, and the lobster was to die for.. The sides were wonderful and so was the service. The owner even came out to check and see that everything was all right. I was very impressed , because I had always wondered who J. Edwards was.He was such a nice man that we asked him to sit down and talk with us, he did and we really liked him.We ate several other places that were good, but on the last night we wanted to eat somewhere special, we talked it over and decided that J Edwards was a safe bet for our last meal at the beach and it was fabulous, as expected. We'll always eat ther when we go to the beach.

We always eat here when we visit on vacation and really enjoy it. We went there for Easter dinner and it was very satisfying and good. We ate off the early -bird menu and had the teriaki chicken and beef tips and ordered the extra portion offerings which are still cheaper than the regular menu. Food was good and just enough without being stuffed. Service was acceptable and we will return.

I dont want to say i hated this place but it was not very good. My girlfriend and i went during the happy hour 3-6pm and got the sampler for 2. Which includes salad, two potato sides, two pieces of bread, 2 pieces of chicken, about 8 ribs and 2 pork chops. All of this was for only 24 dollars during the happy hour which is a pretty good deal. The pork chops were the worst things ive ever tried to eat. We needed a chainsaw to cut thru them they were so tough. The chicken was very dried out but had some flavor to it. I did like the ribs they tasted pretty good. For the sides we got mashed potatoes and sweet potatoe fries both of which were cold and tasted really bad. However if you do want a laugh just walk into the place and see the decor. Its like you are going to your grandmothers house that hasnt been made over in decades. Please avoid this place there is a lot of better places out in myrtle beach

I've been visiting the area for the past 10 yrs and always wanted to try J Edwards. Went there this week, it was during early bird special hours, and had what I considered one of the worst meals i've ever had on the strand. While the service was good the portions were small, tasteless and overcooked. If all you're worried about is cost, and not quality, this is the place for you..

My parents and wife and I were there in the first week of February and it was quite an enjoyable experience. We had been there with another couple in Jan. 2008 and also enjoyed the food and atmosphere, which is why we returned. We were there for the early bird specials and found all of our seafood meals quite delicious. Many restaurants that time of year are closed, so we weren't sure what we would find when we saw so many cars in the parking lot. But there was plenty of seating and we received quick and responsive service from all of the employees we encountered. We are frequent visitors to the Myrtle Beach area and try to eat at as many different restaurants as we can, but J Edwards is a restaurant that we most certainly will return to in our future visits.

Just got in from a wonderful dinner at J Edwards! We went for the early bird(3-6PM) and we also had a coupon for 30% off and a free cup of soup. We decided on the Sampler Platter for Two which included BBQ ribs, chicken and pork tenderloin for each of us plus a potato and salad. It was plenty of food(we brought a piece of chicken home) and everything was great. We also ordered their onion ring loaf($2,99) for an appetizer. It was just okay. Needed some seasoning and maybe some horseradish in the dipping sauce would have been good. But is was definitely worth the price! The four of us even indulged in a Volcano for dessert. It was enough for all 4 of us to share. It's a brownie topped with ice cream and toppings. Our waiter was Kevin and he was "Johnny on the spot", never letting our beverages run out and service was prompt. The restaurant had been decorated for Christmas and was BEAUTIFUL! Atmosphere was really nice. We'll definitely go back again and take our family and friends.

I took my dad to J. Edwards for some ribs last night -- we're locals but this was our first time at the restaurant. The service was outstanding (our waiter was Rob). My sweet tea never got below half full the whole meal -- great! I did feel that the portions were a little slight, but the quality of the food was very good. As far as the atmosphere, we were seated right under one of the restaurant's speakers, so the music was a bit loud fo rus, but generally I doubt it's a problem.

It was not crowded at all and seated right as we walked in the door which is a BIG BONUS when traveling with a 2 year old. We were looking for a steak/rib restaurant and we made the right choice. Our food was served efficiently, the only thing that was forgotten was our bread but we were so full and took half our meals home it wasn't missed. It reminded us of an old restaurant from home. I would return and recommend this to anyone.

They have a great bar that a low lighting, Gazibo's that you can eat in and for those that like to save money, they have an early bird special. It's one of my top four restaurants in Myrtle Beach.

We go to J Edwards every year we go to Myrtle Beach. We always get the early bird special. We have never been disappointed! The atmosphere is great. Quiet place to eat. The only small complaint I have is we seem to get the same waiter every year for the past 4 years. He seems like he doesnt like to wait too long for you to take your time to order. But as far as delivering your food and drinks he has always been efficient. Will always return and cant wait till next time!

My husband and I have eaten at Edwards several times in past years. This year we did a coupon special and were able to use it on a ""For 2" dinner. It was OK and we had some left to take home. We were there a couple of days ago with their 40% off for cash coupon so choices were restricted. My husband ordered the early bird ribs which were OK but were kind of dry and were not served with extra sauce. I ordered the 8 oz sirloin special with mashed potatoes. I knew the steak was not going to be good when the plate was set down in front of me and I had a whiff of what I call that "barnyard" odor. The waitress came by almost immediately after we were served to see if everything was OK and we said it was because we had just started eating. My mashed potatoes were very thin (watery) and tasteless. My husband was almost through with his meal by the time we got our waitress' attention. When I told her the potatoes didn't taste good, she didn't question ... just asked what I wanted in place of them. There are too many great restaurants and too many specials in Myrtle Beach to go back to a restaurant that runs hot and cold. That was our last visit to J. Edwards.

Overall a good experienece. Couldn't have a drink at the bar prior to dinner, as it was too smokey. We ordered a filet and prime rib. each were good and big--bring out the doggy bag. Salad was served with way too much dressing-order it on the side. Best part is that they give 40% off entrees for paying cash and presenting coupon from the local newspaper.

We had heard that this was a favorite of the locals. That was enough for us to give it a try. I ordered the ribs on the Early Bird Special. Excellent! My Husband had Liver and onions with a side of Bacon. He is still talking about how great it was. We would have loved to try some dessert, but were full. The service was fast and we were pleased that it was a quiet place to eat. We will return again. Couldn't understand some of these reviews Panning the place. Some people are very demanding ; it is hard to please everyone,But J, Edwards sure does try to give you a nice meal.

My wife and I visited J Edwards for dinner one night while on vacation in Myrtle Beach. I went specifically for the ribs. The atmosphere was great. It was quiet and we were seated right away. Our waitress did not treat us as nice when compared to most places in the area. I was not blown away by the ribs, although they were very good. This is a nice place to carry your lady. I did not let the waitress attitude ruin our evening. It is slightly expensive.

My husband and I were taking our Coastal Carolina student out for a special dinner this past weekend - August 27th, 2006 - When we walked in the restaurant I felt as if I had stepped back in time to the mid 60's when I used to accompany my parents to a place in Daytona Beach - J Edwards has the same musty smell - the same decorations - the same dark lighting - the same booths - which now need to be reupholstered.

My daughter had crab legs and we each ordered the fried shrimp.

We were not offered any water, we had no rolls or bread to snack on before dinner, the waitress did not ask us about an appetizer. When the food came - my husband remarked - We did not order the child's plate! Together we might have had 15 shrimp on our platters. We also received one hushpuppy each. And this for $14.95 and $18.95 each - !! We were amazed...

Our daugher got 3 crab legs - I guess that was a pound - she also got a very small side serving of dipping butter.

All in all, the service was poor and the food was less than acceptable for the price we had to pay. Next time I will go to a chain restaurant where I know the portions are more in tune with the price. BTW - I do understand portion sizes - I am comparing the portion with the price and it was not acceptable.

I saw their ad in a picture in baggage claim at the airport so I wrote the name down on my claim check... That was the best thing I did all week!

We looked for a place to have a nice meal in Murrells Inlet but all were full or over- priced so I brought up J Edwards.

We called them and they welcomed us down right away by Theresa the host. When we arrived we were taken to our table with no wait.

The prime rib was great, atmosphere was great, service was perfect.

The kids tried the escargot -- it was only 4.95 for 7 and they were great. We had the stuffed shrimp, which was good, and the oysters on the half were another great dish.

The place is very clean. They are not on the beach, they're on Hwy 17, but well worth going if you don't want to wait and have a great meal and time.

Next summer it will be our restaurant of choice... Oh yeah great kids meal selection also.

This was my 3rd time going to J Edwards for dinner. This time I brought a friend whom has never eaten here before. At first I was excited to introduce him to this restaurant given my previous experiences there. However, our experience ended up being a big disaster. We were promptly seated in the front section of the restaurant and our waiter arrived quickly to take our drink orders. Several minutes later he returned with our water. We then ordered our entrees. I ordered a side salad along with my entree. About 15 minutes passed with no sign of our waiter. Apparently he had other table far from us, at the back of the restaurant. The salad finally arrived and he made no mention of being sorry for the wait. He disappeared again, this time for about 20 minutes. I had long finished my salad and our waters were empty. I could see him running around in the back, not once coming to our table. In the meantime, the table next to us had their server (a different one) come to their table several times. They ordered their dinner after us, yet somehow finished theirs before ours even arrived. I could understand the delay if I had ordered something exotic, however, all that I ordered was chicken and rice. Our waiter never returned. At this point I was fed up. I went to speak to the manager/owner, both of which were sitting at the bar chatting with each other. I politely asked them if I could pay for the salad and then leave as we had had terrible service. The owner got agitated and upset. Not at the server, but at me. He questioned my explanation and reasoning for wanting to leave. It is one thing when a server gives you an attitude, but when an owner does it is insulting, to say the least. The manager/owner never apologized, never offered for the dinner to be comped. He simply said "have at it" motioning us towards the exit and added "if you would like to try us again that would be fine." I replied, "I don't think that will happen." I have never been so poorly treated.

My family has been patrons of J Edwards every year while vacationing for over 20 years. Our recent visit on 6/8/06, I ordered a steak and when it came out I asked for A-1, which I wasn't told then that they didn't have, but a non-name brand was brought to the table. It tasted horrible. When I was told they didn't offer A-1 steak sauce anymore, I asked for a manager because I could not eat the steak without A-1 or with the other nasty brand. I was told by very rudely by the manager that no "one had ever said that before" and that I was "the first to complain". He actually offered me a different steak (I guess he missed my reasoning for not being able to eat the first one). I ordered the pork chops instead. No apology was ever offered for my troubles and my family had to wait for me to eat because they were finished by the time I received my replacement. It was apparent to me that J Edwards has changed their view of customer service, even going as far as offering non-compariable brands to save them money, therefore our 20+ year tradition has ended. What is sad is the fact that a mere apology would have made a hugh difference...without the rudeness of course. There is far too many restaurants we can choose from to not get this kind of service. I did call back later and speak to a different manager who told me that they were trying that Monarch brand because it was ALOT cheaper, but that they "have a truck coming in the tomorrow that will include A-1, which would be available" (wonder why if no one had ever complained before). Well, I called the next evening just to see, and to my theory, they didn't have any and I was told that they "stopped offering that brand about six months ago".

Went to J Edwards on a Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. We were seated immediately. Great atmosphere. Not excessively crowded, noisy or smoky. I had the ribs and they were delicious. My husband had the steak and was very pleased. We shared a slice of cheesecake for dessert, which was large enough for four people! Don't forget to get the 30% off coupon out of one of the coupon booklets.

We go to J Edwards every year while in Myrtle Beach, however this year we were there and because we knew others that we in the restuarant all parties were charged gratuity, even the party of 4 that were sitting in a smoking area not anywhere near us. We asked the server why they did this and we were told that because we talked and knew each other that was their policy. So if you do go to this restuarant do not speak or look at anyone that you possibly might know, as you will be charged as if you are all one party. We found this to be poor customer service considering they did not advise us of this until we received our check and had to asked about it.

Three years ago my family at at J Edwards and the food and service by the wait staff were excellent. I'm sorry to say though that I will not return because of the owners rudeness towards my then 1&1/2 year old son. I had some difficulty in removing my son from his highchair and Mr Edwards became verbally rude and insulting with me regarding the matter. It was a shame because in all honesty, the steaks were possibly the best I've ever had. Maybe just not a great place to take small children.

Found J.Edwards on my first trip to Myrtle Beach several years ago, completely by accident. Drove by, saw the sign, and decided to stop. Well, WHAT A FIND ! Now, i go at least twice every time i'm in town, and i recommend it to all of my friends when they go. So far, everyone LOVES the food, the service and the value ! Ribs, steaks and chicken are all exceptional, and the employees at J. Edwards really make your evening - very personable and fun ! You can't visit Myrtle Beach without trying this place !!! You won't be disappointed.

I love this restaurant! Especially the fireplace seating...but the food is incredible! From the steak and ribs to the desserts!! Great ambiance and lively bar area while you wait. Ed the owner and the managers walk around themselves to ensure the quality of service and food! I'll be back every time I go to Myrtle Beach!!

Hubby is the rib expert in this family and although they were tasty, they didn't knock his socks off.

He prefers large ribs and not baby back. He gets annoyed when a menu doesn't specify that the ribs will be "baby backs".

Service and ambience were fine, but it wasn't as good as a Memphis ribs restaurant!

We went to J Edwards when we first got to Myrtle Beach and found it to be exceptional. We visit Myrtle Beach a couple of times a year, and Edwards is always where we eat on our first night there and then again the night before we leave we go back again. It is a pleasant place to dine and the servers are very efficient and friendly. This year my daughter and her husband are coming down with us and we cannot wait to take them to our favorite restaurant.
