This place is great always. We came down for late visit and thrilled they are staying open longer. The "small portion and high price " review must be a competitor in the area. We recommend Hoskins to everyone we know.

My family have been Hoskins-goers since the 1950s when I was barely big enough to down a scallop. We loved the quality of the food in the restaurant and went back time after time. My wife and I returned after a very long hiatus over Labor Day 2010; the food was still the best on the beach. I had the large seafood platter for $17.95 (bargain). The scallops were the largest, sweetest, and most tender of any I have ever had. Shrimp and fish cooked to perfection. Very generous portions. There is a reason Hoskins has been here in the same building since 1948, surviving 2 major hurricanes. Don't expect upscale atmosphere; this is a hometoen place frequented by the locals

Smallest portions and highest prices in North Myrtle Beach. It is all about being seen by the locals who go there for that reason. Not worth the wait or waste of money. I mean small portions................

Hoskins is a great place to eat. My wife and I enjoy that place more then any place we dine in North Myrtle Beach. The breakfast is always freshley made and they are generous with their serving. Lunch is excellent from the meat loaf on Thursdays to the Fried Checken. Every other Sunday they have turkey and pork roast with fresh made bannana pudding for desert. So if you want to have a great meal I suggest you give this place a visit. We live here and go every weekend they are open. They close during some months in the winter, but they deserved that for working so hard to please you. Get up the great and excellent work. Andy and Patsy

My husband & I were at the beach for a late Valentine's vacation trip & decided to give Hoskins a try. It was close to where we were staying & had gone by there before & saw a huge crowd of people. Huge crowds mean good food, right? WRONG! We were seated quickly (good thing) and got our menus (bad thing). The food is outrageoulsy priced, but we expected for those prices that we would get a good deal of food. I got a 1 trip salad bar in a bowl about the size of my hands cupped together for $4.00..1 trip! My hubby got a "large" 2 combination seafood platter for $18.00. We literally started laughing when they brought out his food! It had one small piece of flounder, a crab cake that looked like it had been dropped on the floor & stepped on & about 6 pieces of shrimp! We ate at T-Bonz the next night for less & got triple the amount of food! We will never go back & thankfully got a chance to warn a couple of guys going in as we were leaving to not waste their time or money there...they left & went to K & W!

We go to Myrtle Beach every year, and have done so for over 20 years Hoskins is a great place to go for breakfast, and also for lunch. The food is good, and the amount is nice. The decor needs to be updated. There is usually a wait, and it is a place where you know you will be get your money's worth. If you receive something too greasy, or not what you expected, please tell them, they will redo it and bring you something different. With so many selections in the area, Hoskins is usually a safe choice for quality.

My husband and I ALWAYS come to Hoskins everytime we go to the beach...a few times a year. And everytime, the food is great. The freshest flounder, shrimp and scallops and a very good salad bar.. Always consistant. The service is great. If you're looking for atmosphere, this is not the place, but great food, great service....you gotta go.

My family and I get up early for the great hash browns at Hoskins. The service and atmosphere is absolutely wonderful. Did I mention the hash browns? Everything else is fabulous too. The kids leave with happy belly's and the in-laws are even satisfied. Give this place a try but don't tell anyone as the lines are often long but it is well worth the wait.

I'm tempted to give a poor rating so that we don't have to wait in the long lines now that everyone visiting nmb seems to know not to miss Hoskins! actually, the lines move quickly and you meet lots of nice people while waiting in line. You can't beat their mon-fri lunch specials. Their fried shrimp is the best at the beach. I love this place..

We have been searching for a good seafood restaurant in N MB for a few years. Finally saw people standing in line for this place and decided to try it. The atmosphere is just what I wanted. Family friendly and kind of loud. We have 2 children and we fit right in. The fried shrimp was WAY over-cooked, but the flounder was PERFECT! My husband had fried scallops and they were good. I loved the hushpuppies. The salad bar was much better than getting traditional iceberg lettuce with a mushy tomato and 1 cucumber slice! The price was definitely too high. I understand people have to make a living but........we ate steak and shrimp at Outback the next night for less. I will visit again before we go home for the flounder. Maybe lunch is cheaper!

We've been coming here for over 30 years. Still the same great family friendly restaurant. Food is excellent and well presented. I can't believe that anyone would give this place a bad review. Our waitress was great and the food was delicious. I had the boiled shrimp plate; others in our group had an assortment ranging from chicken to broiled flounder. We were all pleased!

Ok, I went back to give my Hoskins its second chance! Oh my, I am so sad. It is not as good as it has been. Don't know what the problem is, but greasier and some of the seafood overcooked. Crab cake has way way way too much breading. I am so sad, I always have loved Hoskins. If you are reading this Hoskins, get a new cook. This one is not so great!

My parents have a condo close to Hoskins and it is the family tradition to go there the first night we're at the beach. It is not for me and my wife. Don't understand how people keep coming back here. I guess it's the "retired" groups hangout (sorry mom and dad). If you like the food that is good but I don't care for it. My dad always, every year tells me how when he was a young lad, how he pitched a tent not too far from Hoskins and that is how he came to the beach. Dad I love ya but that was in 1942. It is 2009

I have eaten at Hoskins many times over the years. The food has been consistently good. In fact, several years in a row, we ate there 2 or 3 times in one trip. This year, we got there on Saturday and couldn't wait to get to Hoskins. We got there about 4 pm and went to Hoskins before we even checked in. My hubby and I shared a seafood platter. The quality didn't seem the same as previous years. A little greasy and the crab was too full of breading. The fish was very good. I am going back next week and will try it again. I always give a great place to eat a second chance!

My husband and I went to this restaurant because it was recommended to us as having excellent seafood. My husband got a seafood platter. The flounder and shrimp were fresh and delicious. The crab cake was meaty and not full of bread like some I have tried at other restaurants. The scallops and oysters were also fresh and delicious. I got fried chicken, black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens. It was all delicious and reasonably priced. I felt as if I were at home eating a home cooked meal. The sweet tea was very good and the service was great.

Excellent food--everything cooked to perfection; however, a little greasy. Salad bar is fresh but lacks in selection. The chocolate pie is to die for!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, it is served only 2 days each week.Platter servings are large enough for 2 adults to share. BAD NEWS! THEY CLOSE SHOP FOR THE WINTER MONTHS!!! I'll be there as soon as they open this spring!!

As summertime approaches, infusing the salty air with children laughing and coconut tanning oil, we budget-conscious epicurians must transform our mundane box-lunches into the setting of an unforgettable tongue ballet. Gastronomic possibility can flourish if we don our bibs at Hoskins Restaurant. For example, you may see a filet of flounder at another restaurant, and think nothing of it. Look at Hoskins-- ‘tis the sole of Poseidon himself, waiting to sweep young diners away to a world under the sea. A hand-formed hamburger patty, perfectly grilled, rivals the epicurean satisfaction of the finest steak tartare. This halcyon refuge is a diner where the magic of imagination can overpower the reality of your situation. To you, I bid Bon Appetit, for Hoskins is the place where heaven touches earth, and unforgettable fried flounder flourishes in their union.

There are few things in this world I truly love, but Hoskins is one of them. I first went there about two years ago, and I ordered the crab bites. It was love at first bite. The food was superb and I felt as if the staff were members of my own family. Every time I visit North Myrtle Beach, I plan on eating at least 75% of my meals at Hoskins. I live in Northern Virginia, and sometimes when I am having a really terrible day, I will get in my car and drive 8 hours to sit in my favorite restaurant in the world, and it is always worth it. To put it simply: Hoskins makes me happy.

Surly attitude of hostess made things bad from the start; especially after she walked us thru an almost empty dining room to a back dining room and seated us right at the kitchen/restroom doors. I requested a move and got it begrudgingly. My scallops were fried so dark and greasy they were not fit to eat at all. Dripping with grease.

I am a local, and cannot understand how a place that is arguably the shabbiest most expensive spot in N. Myrtle attracts so many guests. The decor is 1970's McDonalds. Plastic seats, cheap crockery and cutlery. I mean, not that I care. If I can get a good deal, and the place is shabby, but clean, I say heck yes! However, this place is NO BARGAIN. The prices are right in line with the "real" restaurants up and down the Strand. They have a $23.00 ribeye and shrimp dinner, for instance.

The owners are laughing all the way to the bank. They have 45 minute waits daily, sometimes even during off season. So anyone offended by my review, don't worry, won't hurt them a bit.

Have eaten here, the food was OK, but for the price, this place is lousy. I mean, you can eat better, cheaper, at a dozen places within three miles. Have no clue, maybe they give shagger discounts? Golden ager cards half off? No idea why such a generic little overpriced place is so popular...

Take a 20 minute drive to Calabash. Capt. Nance's overlooking the inlet is $6.00 for lunch. Better, cheaper, nice view. Oh, and it is a "real" locals restaurant.

Food Is Great, Atmosphere is old school family diner, Prices are very reasonable. Stayed in North Myrtle Beach close to Main street several times and this is the first I have been to this local favorite. It will not be the last. It wasn't the best food I have ever eaten on the strand, but ranks up there and for the price and the service, its worth the trip to find it.

I have been going to Hoskins since I was young. It had been 10 years since I'd been down to NMB so I was REALLY pleased to see they were still in business. Alas, I was so very disappointed! The menu is now only about 1/3 of what it used to be & 2 of my favorites--shrimp creole & the most wonderful fried onion rings--were among the casualties. My friend had the seafood platter & stopped eating because the food all tasted the same--as if everything had been fixed in the same oil. The platter had fish, oysters, shrimp, crab cake & scallops. His great love is oysters & he said that they were crunchy throughout. I had the boiled shrimp & they were a little tough but did, at least, tasted like shrimp. While the cooking might be chalked up to a 'bad day', the changes in the menu can't.

Thiis place is the real deal as far as the food is concerned. I had the seafood platter. It was the best I ever had. The batter was delicious. The quality and freshness of the seafood was first rate. The fried scallops were full size, not bay scallops. The flounder was flaky and perfectly cooked. The hush puppies were also full sized and the best that I have had in MB. I was staying 17 miles south of NMB in MB, but after reading all of these glowing reviews, I decided to make the trip to see for myself. It was well worth it.

After many years of visting NMB we finally decided to try Hoskins. The seafood platter that my wife and I ordered was excellent. Scallops, flounder, oysters, shrimp and crabcake, along with a house salad, baked potato and hush puppies for less than $18. The large platter is very filling. The kids order chicken which they enjoyed as well. We will visit again on our next trip.

Decided to try it for breakfast the next morning and it was just as we hoped it would be, terrific. If you like great home cooking at a reasonable price, then you got to check out Hoskins. The only bad thing is.... I wish I found out about this place sooner !! Visiting again in Oct 2008 and this will be our first stop !!

We saw the lines outside as we were coming in to North Myrtle on Saturday. We kept seeing the lines and decided that this must be a good place to eat. We were not disappointed. We went about 8:30 and did not have to wait to be seated. The service was excellect and the food was top notch! We were assured by our server that if we came again not to let the lines deter us in any way because they moved quickly. If you're looking for a place that gives you the feeling of the old homestyle Myrtle Beach, with great food, this is it. Enjoy!

I went in late April 2008, this restaurant was within waking distance to where I was staying so we took a chance on this due to the reviews. My friend and I really enjoyed it. You can't beat the price for the quality of food your getting. Good down home cooking. You can tell the locals go there and they know a good thing. We enjoyed so much we came back the next day for Breakfast. I plan on visiting again in Oct 2008 and Hoskins will be my main choice for eating out.

This is one of our favorite restaurants. We actually ate here 4 times during our week stay. (2 breakfasts and 2 dinners) The breakfast is delicious. My father loves their country ham. My husband raves about the omelets and my daughter and I are fans of the homemade biscuits.

For dinner, we have had both their seafood and their country entrees. I know the salad is small, but I would much rather have a small salad than a dollop of coleslaw with my fish. Their oysters are excellent. My daughter got the fried chicken sandwich. It is a whole breast and it seems like they bread it there. It was more than she could eat!

You really can't go wrong here!

We have been visting North Myrtle Beach for probably ten years now. Of course each year we look forward to the beach and the ocean, but the next best thing is Hoskins!! For breakfast and dinner, it is just great. We love the laid back atmosphere and look forward to seeing the same waitresses each year. The food is just as good, and maybe better, than the restaurants in Calabash. Great value. Be sure to go early for dinner if you don't want to wait in a long line. We're coming back this June and our fist dinner will probably be at Hoskins. We can't wait for the fried oysters.

The best food on the Strand from Georgetown to Sunset Beach, bar none. Home cooking at it's best and enough to feed anybody at price anyone can afford. You might have to wait outside for a little while but the food is worth it. The Seafood is by far the best you will eat anywhere.

The food is excellent and the salad bar is a nice extra. They say they close at 9:00 PM but if you get there after 8:30 PM you will be looked at like you have 2 heads. They will sweep, mop and clean the condiments off your table while you are still eating. I have seen them turn away patrons at 8:55 PM. I know they have been there forever but this shows poor service and management.

My husband and I usually like to eat take-out at restaurants which we did at Hoskins. We were there 10/2/07 during lunch time and the place was really buzzing. We put in our order of 2 different platters w/ salad bar instead of slaw, which cost us extra, but worth it. The last time we ate there was back in the 70's when we had 2 little ones, very traumatic!! We loved the food then and thankgoodness, it's still good!! Wish there was a little more room inside but after all this time I doubt it will happen. Anyway, as long as it doesn't interfere with the quality of food I guess it's okay.

Wonderful local place! Good southern homecookin' during lunch. I reccomend sticking with the daily specials. You get the best quality food, for the best price, and fast! We try to get up there as much as possible. Try to be there before noon, or there'll be a wait, and be sure to try the coconut pie!

We love the food at Hoskins. We stay at a condo in NMB 2 or 3 times a year, and a couple of years ago we saw the line, and just had to try it. Boy, I am glad we did. We have been going to all the "GREAT" places in the Myrtle Beach Area and were getting hoooo hummmm food. Nothing great! Big prices and not such a great meal. We tried Hoskins and were thrilled with the seafood. Lots of it and cooked perfectly. The price is right too! Not the greatest atmosphere, but good enough and food is definately excellent. I don't complain about the salad bar, because with most seafood dinners, you don't even get a salad bar, just cole slaw on the side...I am happy to have my bowl full from the salad bar. Go... try it...I think you will like it.

We just came back from N. Myrtle and once again loved Hoskins better than any of the bigger, pricier seafood restaurants. Those shrimp are my very favorite! I think I have finally learned my lesson and will not try to find a "good deal" anywhere else. Fast, friendly service, delicious food, and great size portions make this a family favorite. My only complaint is that I am always too full to try the home made pie! Will have to doggy bag it next time to enjoy at sunset on the beach. Thanks Hoskins family and staff!

My wife and I come here every year on our vacation. We love the food and the service is good. The only problem is the salad bar. On the menu it says only one trip to the salad bar, but the bowls for the salad are the size of Ice cream bowls. These bowls are WAY too small for salad. Most people like myself, like a good size salad with their meal. One time we were there and my wife made 2 bowls of salad while at the salad bar, and when we got the bill we were charged for an extra salad. She only made one trip as stated on the menu, but I guess 2 bowls were not allowed. I didnt mind the extra charge, but it would have been nice if they would have said something and not just added it to the bill. Wonder if you can bring you own salad bowl with you? I would gladly pay for the extra lettuce. I guess I will try that when I become a local in the near future.

Hoskin's is an excellent restaurant! The flounder and shrimp are my favorites, and are as good, if not better, than the pricey, expensive restaurants I have dined in. It was a local diner basically. Nothing special. My wife had a fish sandwich. Just a bun and two pieces of fried fish. The fish was tasty, but some lettuce or something would've been nice. I had the She-Crab soup which was tasty but nothing to write home about. If we went back this trip, which we are not planning to, we would order something different. The staff were really nice and accommodating.

This is my favorite place to eat in Myrtle Beach! I have been vacationing here with my grandmother since I was 5-I'm now 22, she passed away a few years ago and it was always her favorite place to eat and the highlight of her trip! So I guess it's also kind of sentimental to me. The best dish is the fried oysters!!

Hoskins is the best place for the freshest flounder and shrimp. The fried flounder/shrimp have never disappointed my husband or myself. Always thick founder, good size shrimp cooked just right. Forget Calabash, Hoskins is so much better. We have been eating at Hoskins since we purchased on beach vacation home in 1992. If you truely want great food at a good price and friendly staff, Hoskins is the place for you and your family.

We are locals and we love Hoskins!

When we want seafood, we choose Hoskins because we feel their shrimp, flounder, and oysters are better than any we could get in Calabash.

We are there for the lunch special just about daily (except Monday, when they are closed). They offer a choice of meat, three veggies, tea or coffee, and homemade biscuits or cornbread for under $6.00.

A great price, but even better, it is really delicious.

This is truly Southern, home cooking at its best.

We first noticed Hoskins because of the line outside the restaurant along the sidewalk and went back the next night to give it a try. This is one of those places that don't do a lot (if any) of advertising, because word of mouth keeps them in all the customers they can handle. If you have one night in North Myrtle Beach, eat here. If you have a week, you'll probably do as we do, and eat here at least a couple times. Just a good, down-to-earth, what-you-see-is-what-you-get restaurant with great food.
