I ordered a salad with shrimp on top and a cup of hot tea. The lettuce was rancid and I had to spit out one particularly nasty piece to keep from vomiting. The salad was inedible. The shrimp that were on top of the rancid lettuce were tiny, boiled popcorn shrimp that had no taste other than freezer burn. My cup of hot tea was $2.50, and my husband's coffee was $2.50 -- no refills (not that we were ever asked)! The waitress hardly checked on us, we waited for at least 15 minutes for our check (it wasn't busy) and when I paid the bill, she didn't bring back the change. Yes, I still left 15% on the table (low for me) in addition to what she confiscated from our payment. As locals, it was our first and last visit to this obvious tourist trap! Thanks for ruining our Valentine's Day lunch, Flying Fish and staff!

We had a party of 4 there on july 19,2014. My wife and I were recently married and I was also celebrating my birthday. I ordered a dozen select oysters steamed ... Came out like tiny butter beans with zero taste .to say they were over cooked would be an understatement. My wife ordered a half pound of gulf shrimp with the byo boil they were just good. Sorry folks my first and last time . I did not complain because my wife is easily embarrassed. Our server was the bright spot to our visit .

I was with 4 other women and we had lunch the previous day. The food was great. We even ordered from the $5 menu. We liked it so much that we went back the next evening for dinner. The food was great again. The fish spread that they give you as an appetizer was delicious. When we went to dinner, our waiter was terrific He couldn't have been more helpful. His manner was so pleasant and friendly. He made our visit even more enjoyable.

Wow! First time here tonight and we will definitely be back. We went with a party of ten(three of which were kids), and we were seated very quickly and immediately were waited on by a great waitress. She was able to answer our questions about the food. Food was amazing and all of us loved our dinner! Kids loved their meals as well

Outstanding everything!...I'm a local but only just visited FF for the first time....fast service even when they're busy, but the staff still make time for chit chat. I had oysters, sushi, and ribs for happy hour. The food and house drinks are delicious. It is worth any wait you may have.

We were a group of 4. Our ages ranged from 26 to 62..we ALL loved what we ordered. The place is so clean, from the bathrooms to the kitchen which is visible. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was so good we will be going back again. It was no more pricy than any other restaurant around. You know the fish is fresh, because you can't smell a hint of a fishy smell. They make their fresh catch (about 5 - 7 different kinds) any way you want. They also have the usual fish and chips..not at all greasy, shrimp, scallops etc..and they have a raw bar...all in all we all went home full and very happy with out experience. The bill was about 25 each, not bad for the amount of food, the quality, quantity and atmosphere. If you want a really nice place to go that is casual and caters to all ages (there were small children there) do yourself a favor and visit The Flying Fish when you're in the area. You won't be sorry.

We ordered sushi and shrimp and grits. Both fabulous. Atmosphere was great, service at the bar was great. Our server left a little to be desired and we were seated at a table where the air conditioner dripped (and was pointed out by our hostess!) Nevertheless, will definitely go back.

I have been going to the flying fish since it opened and loved it, but the last few times I have been it seems to be going down hill fast. I had the fish and chips with crab coleslaw but there was no crab in it, also there was about half the amount of food as before, my husband had one of the big boils, but when he got it, it was alot smaller than it used to be and didn't have crawfish on it like it use to.very disappointed. The new management is awful and the chef is not much better. I will not be back and will make sure I don't send anyone I know there.

My husband and I just went to the Flying Fish for the first time two nights ago. Amazing is all that is needed. I had the Fish and Chips and my husband had the Tilapia. Portions were more than enough. Taste was excellent. The dip that comes before the dinner was delicious. And our waitress was a ray of sunshine. I can't imagine anyone leaving the Flying Fish unhappy. We can't wait to go back.

Our group of four ladies went for lunch. There were only a few people there. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. The menu was simple but varied. The prices included 5$ to 20$ entrees. The food was delicious. We recommend you eat there. Don't know about summer crowds but it was great in the off-season.

We were seated within 10 minutes on a Saturday night. However our food did not come to the table until 50 minutes after we had been seated. My wife had steamed crab legs and we rate them as excellent. However, I had the tilapia and it was poor. So I have given the overall quality of food an average rating. The manager very kindly gave us a complimentary dessert to make up for the dried out tilapia. I'm sure I could have sent it back but after waiting an hour to get food I didn't want to wait any longer. It would be nice if they provided some bread or some hushpuppies on the table for those waiting.

My husband, son & I ate dinner here last night & had a wonderful time. We arrived just after 7 pm (on a Thursday evening) & were seated within 15 min. Our table was on the 2nd floor screened deck overlooking the intercoastal waterway at sunset. Gorgeous! We enjoyed the hushpuppy appetizer (about a dozen in one order!), my husband has a dozen raw oysters (heard no complaints) & we all shared the Flying Fish Specialty with plenty left over. All was very tasty. The best part of our experience was our server, Lauren. She was happy, attentive & paid special attention to our two-year-old. On the way out, the staff behind the seafood counter were very friendly also! We plan to visit Tbonz (sister restaurant) tonight & will receive 10% off when I show my receipt from the Flying Fish. We had a great time & will be back next year!

We ate here on Friday,9/9/11, prior to a show at Alabama Theater. When we arrived the hostess suggested the bar area if we were pressed for time. There were plenty of booths, and as soon as we sat down our waiter was there and took our drink order. He soon returned with our drinks and a complementary dip. We had the Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll, It was good. For my meal I had the Calabash Platter - Flounder, oysters and calabash shrimp...18.95, came with a nice sized piece of fish and a pile of Shrimp and oysters, it was great. The wife had Atlantic Salmon - Chef’s Suggested Preparation: Fire grilled with mango salsa...19.95 She said it was the best salmon she'd ever had. And for desert she had a Chocolate Martini (not on the menu) it was very good too. I highly recommend this place to anyone going out for diner and a show because the food is great and you can park between the restaurant and the Alabama Theater and walk from diner to the show.

This place was horrible. It took us over an hour to get our food. When it finally came out, there was a long strand hair on my friends fried shrimp. The server had the meal taken off the ticket. We were very disappointed. The manager came to our table after the hair incident and he really did not seem to care. We will not be back and do not recommend this place to anyone.

My wife and I ate here last night (Jan. 15, 2011). We had an amazing experience and can't wait to go back. Who would have ever thought that some of the best bar-b-q ribs would be found at a seafood restaurant! These ribs were excellent--perfectly slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bones. The steamed shrimp were huge, perfectly prepared, with a homemade cocktail sauce. And the clam chowder was great! We learned this restaurant is part of a locally owned and operated chain. Clearly, this is a new favorite--and we are locals.

My wife and I visited The Flying Fish for dinner on September 27, 2010. We both love that southern delicacy called "Shrimp and Grits". This was without a doubt the best shrimp and grits we have ever eaten. It was so good that we decided to eat there again on our last night, October 2nd. The quality of the food is fantastic. The staff is very friendly and they act like they are genuinely glad that you are there. The free Mahi-Mahi Dip and crackers is a great touch and very tastey. The restaurant is very clean and the restrooms are also kept very clean. On Saturday night there was a good crowd for dinner but it was not overwlmingly loud nor was there a long wait. We were seated right away with a fantastic view of the intercostal waterway. The only time it got loud was when the Manager and one of the cooks started throwing a red snapper back and forth over the counter; hence the name "flying fish". It was great and very entertaining. We plan to be back in M.B. for Thanksgiving and have already made our plans to eat here while in town. This restaraunt has become on of our new "gotta go to spots".

I visited this restaurant in early August with family members. I had shrimp and flounder. Both were good, though I think some Calabash restaurants are a better value (like Ella's). The view of the waterway is great. My one big complaint is that there was a big board at the front of the restaurant advertising which fish and seafood items were available. Apparently, they offered fresh "dungenous" crabs that day. I do wonder about a seafood restaurant that doesn't know the correct spelling of the crab is "dungeness"!

We have eaten at the Flying Fish twice at lunch. Great menu and the food was excellent. I got an appetizer - steamed shrimp in the shell. The shrimp were huge and were enough for me as an entree. My husband got the fish of the day which was very good. The sweet potato fries are so good as a side but are sinfully good as an appetizer with blue cheese and dressing. My granddaughter won't touch sweet potatoes and she loved them. Highly recommend - also get a Barefoot Landing preferred customer card at customer service and you will get a discount on your meal
