Have been dining at El Cerro for years and the quality of service has gone down hill as of recent. The food which we waited for close to an hour for was cold and of poor quality. Would rather go to taco bell. Although I think they are all owned by the same people, the Garden City location gives the other locations a bad name.

Worst resturant ever! Went to dinner with seven people, four dinners came out then waited 20 minuts another two more meals, had to ask several times to receive the last meal. To add insult to injury the management was extremely rude and the food all tasted like it sat under a heat lamp the whole time we were waiting. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Fabulous menu, including typical favorites and specialties. We loved it. Pitcher of Sangria cost more than our 2 meals combined-but that was our drink of choice. Service, quality and quantity of food, etc-all excellent.

I am a local and meet friends for lunch quite often for the last 7+ years and have never, ever had any kind of problem with the taste of the food or service. Always satisfied. The person that suggested El Patio...no please...been there and they don't measure up by comparison at all.

We get food "to go " from them at least once a week. Usually chicken chimichangas. I also love the quesadillas. Mushroom and spinach is my favorite. The cheese dip is great. I use my own peach/mango salsa , my husband prefers theirs. We enjoy the margaritas . The staff is friendly too. Can't beat the prices. There is none better in the area.

If you are used to eating at good mexican restaurants in your hometown, you will be disappointed in this one! My wife ordered chicken fajitas and it was 90% peppers and onions. I ordered chicken fajita nachos and it only had about 4 small pieces of chicken on the whole plate. The service was poor too. Our glasses stayed empty the whole night.

Party of 4.One couple ordered chicken fajitas for 1, to share, without guacamole. They brought beef & chicken fajitas and guacamole was on the salad. (Mexican wait staff should be required to understand English, so they will get the orders right.) Other couple ordered the mixed fajita. It was right, but the guacamole had too much cilantro and tomato in it. Meat was a bit overcooked. Cheese dip had no jalapenps in it, mostly bland. Beans had a :funny: taste compared to what we are used to. Chips and salsa were ok. Margaritas had wwayyyyyyyy too much marg. mix and waytoo little tequila and triple sec. Extremely sweet. We did not finish. Would not go back.

My wife and I went to El Cerro Grande in garden city, but not any more.it was the worst food we have ever tried to eat.there was no flavor,i don't thing they put any kind of spices in the food.the chips were stale and the dip did not have any flavor to it.we live in garden city and have eaten there many times, but today it was awful and sad that we had to pay $30.00 for that garbage.i would not recommend this place to anyone.the beef in my wife's food was so tough that she could not eat it,and the one taco that I had with my meal was like they just cooked hamburger and put it in a sheel without any kind of flavoring..

I've been eating at El Cerro for at least seven years. And I don't think there's been one time where I was disappointed. There food is always steaming hot and amazing. I think I could survive solely on their chips and salsa. *Also I've never seen any roaches in anything and I go there once every two weeks.

I have been visiting el Cerro Grande since they first started; in the parking lot in front of were Walmart used to be. I have never, ever had a bad meal. The staff is always very friendly. The prices are great! And so is the food. I live in northern Virginia and visit SC very frequently due to family in the area and always visit at least once! I plan on taking my whole wedding party to el Cerro Grande!

As for the comment regarding the food not being good, I think the person must be confused and thinking of somewhere else or own the competition!

I tried El Cerro Grande with a friend and it was the worst mexican food I have ever encountered. The server was rarely seen, I had to seek him out 3 times to get any service at all. The food was disgusting and cold when it arrived and no one came to ask us if everything was ok. The thing is it was after the lunch rush and there was only 1 other table of customers in the whole place! I would not reccommend this place under any circumstances. The food was very bland and the beans and rice weren't palatable. Don't bother dining there. You would fare better at a mexican drive thru.

My friend and I tried El Cerro Grande and thought the food was terrible. I would not reccomend this place at all. Although the place was Not busy we couldn't get service. It took for ever to get seated, even longer to get a beverage, and longer yet to place our food order. When the food arrived it was tepid and flavorless. The beans and rice were inedible!! When we had finished I had to again chase down a server to get our check. I thought the place was dirty and lacked charm to say the very least! It is worth your while to drive down the road to El Patio where the food, service, and atmosphere are excellent!!!

I found El Cerro Grande to be a great value for the quantity and quality of the food that was served. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the wait staff were quick and friendly. The chips and salsa were great, and the food was served hot and fresh. I will most certainly eat here again when we return next year.

I live across the street from El Cerro Grande in Garden City. I've eaten there twice and once at another branch. As Mexican food, I think it is the pits! Very poorly prepared and inauthentic. I am a native of Los Angeles and have eaten Mexican food since I was a child. I have eaten at both "gringo tourist trap" type Mexican restaurants and also very authentic ones in Mexican neighborhoods. Anyone reading this who feels that I'm full of it, I wish I could take you for some of the wonderful Mexican food available on the West Coast. The benchmark to rate a Mexican restaurant's food -- many believe -- is how well they prepare a chile relleno. To me, those at El Cerro Grande are so horrible they are off the scale. And, the guacamole sucks! I was shocked that the food served there is prepared and also consumed by Mexicans. I would love to be writing this in praise of the restaurant because since relocating to this state 18 months ago, I have found but one decent Mexican restaurant, which is very frustrating. I won't name it here, but it's on Highway 17 Alternate a few miles from Summerville. You may think I sound like a jerk and that I should go back to Los Angeles, which I do twice a year, but I think I have the credentials to know good Mexican food, and El Cerro Grande is malisimo (terrible)!!!

I eat at the Garden City location at least once a week and have since they moved the Surfside Beach location further south. I usually get my food to go, but eat in sometimes. This is the best Mexican I have eaten and I have tried many places in many states. Try the Green Enchiladas, Chili Rellinos, Rice and Beans. The chips and salsa are out of sight. Raymond is the Manager and always looks out his customers. If you don't like this you might as well go to Taco Bell.

Our experience was way below standard for us. The restaurant was lovely, but if we saw our waiter more than 3 times, it was a lot. The food was luke warm when it arrived and the waiter never came back to check on us. Being all mexican food, we had no idea what most things were and no explaination on the menu. We eat out alot and now think that El Patio is superior to El Cerro Grande. The cost was pretty good, if you knew what you were ordering. They never offered us any sauce to go on our tacos or any condiments, for that matter. We probably will not return.

A great casual dining experience. Food has always be great and many different dishes all with their own unique taste. The salsa are great, be sure to ask for the free HOT salsa rather than the complimentary standard salsa they bring = green salsa if they have it that day. Very good prices, especially during Happy Hour.

I have found roaches in my food twice there. The first time was in the nachos and I thought it might be an isolated incident. I informed the server (Frank) and he said there was no extra charge for bugs. The second time was in my entree weeks later when I finally got up my nerve to go back. I quietly told my server and asked for another entree. He came back with food in To-Go boxes. When I got home he had packed up the roach food. There was no language barrier there because he spoke English and I speak Spanish. I am also a 50% tipper so it was not punishment for bad tipping. They just don't care.
