Review: I was in Cherry Grove in September 2007 and couldn't even find the place again. Is it really still there. Will be there in May again and will look once again.

Review: This is not a restaurant. This is a bar. They serve "bar food". My wife and I have an O/F condo in Sea Winds at 48th Ave. South, NMB. It is a 2.5 hour stroll on the beach to this place, but a good place to rest, have a snack and some water. We ate here years ago when it was a churchy, country, fried fish basket place. I doubt alcohol was served then, but the food was very good. We read the most rescent reviews - people looking for a meal (I agree with the 10/7/2007 review) and memory lane people who would still love it if the owners spat on you. You have to discount that review, no? Two cheese burgers w/ fries & pickle (2x$8.50), fried mac-n-cheese appitizer ($5), water, plus tax = $24+ tip = $27 for food that was so-so at best. It should not be hard to make a great hamburger. This one is forgetable. It was was a perfectly shaped, frozen puck. Off-brand (Monarch) Ketchup is guarenteed to confuse your tastebuds even further. This is a trruly nasty condiment and it exudes "cheap". SC law requires food to be served wherever a liquor is served. No food = no liquor license. The food here is a required checkmark for the bar. No pride is taken. There is no chef. BUT..the bar is pretty. The view is nice and ocean front is expensive. You will be paying for the view. My advise: Order drinks (Jim Beam and Coke = $4.50), enjoy the view and eat only if you are starving. Again, this is a bar with "bar food" - not a restaurant as most civilized people would define it. The menu is printed in 3-fold white laser paper - weather worn, stained and with non-exciting entries. Before ordering I asked the waitress about the fried mac-n-cheese and she said "I do not know. I have only been here a month." On a short menu, she should at least be offered a tasting session during her first week, no? This place feels like a write-off to the new resort which now overshadows it and probably owns it. It is staffed by college kids (or, perhaps since it is October - college dropouts) and there is no pride of ownership. The owner is, no doubt, in another city or country and presides over 50 of these seasonal bars. That is how it feels. If you want a nice meal at a reasonable price, this is totally the wrong place. If you want a drink by the ocean - then enjoy!

Review: This place is now called Boardwalk Beach Cafe. Located at Cherry Grove Pier behind the new Prince Resort.More of a bar and grill than a restaurant. Might be more of an ammenty for the resort than public restaurant.

Thumbs up for atmosphere. Heavy varnished wood trim and furnishings. Exterior walls are mostly garage doors that are opened making it an open air room. More tables outside on deck under awning. Still a couple more out in open away from awning and over looking beach. At high tide you are actually seated over the water.

Service was quick and friendly.

Menu: Average. Half dozen give or take sandwich options. Same for the "dinner" menu. Most if not all "dinner" options are fried.

Menu says the seafood is fresh from local supplier. Gives you impression of quallity meals. Ordered seafood platter. $12. Platter was small plastic hamburger basket. One third shrimp. Large pile of very small popcorn sized shrimp. No taste.

One piece of fish. Fried till it was hard as rock.

Large helping of french fries. So greasy I couldn't eat them. Serving of slaw was in small condiment tub. Two bites.

Looked around at other tables. Sandwiches looked much more appetizing than what I had on plate. Hamburger looked very large but at $8 might not be worth it.

Won't go back.

Review: A part of our family vacation tradition...'Breakfast at Driftwood' on the pier overlooking the ocean! The tradition was started by my father..passed on to myself, and my son, and now to my grand-daughter Keely! FOUR generations!!

Thank goodness it has reopened. We look forward to returning this June. We saw Vanna White there a couple of years ago. She worked there as a teen-ager!

Review: I am sad to see on the web the closing of the Driftwood. We have been eating there with my daughter's family and grandchildren since the early 90's. It was always on our list to eat at the Driftwood. My husband and son-in-law fish on the pier. One year my sister and her husband visited us and took them to the Driftwood. Now, I always had to bring her back an order of hushpuppies. Believe it or not! It will be greatly missed by my family. My grandsons loved the fish tanks and fishing gear decor. Boo-Whooooo!

Review: We first went to this restaurant in 2004 and then was VERY disappointed to find it had closed for the season in 2005. We will be going to Cherry Grove again in a few weeks and hope it will be open again. My son and daughter LOVED dinning on the beach and the noise was all ocean--that's why it rated an excellent.

Review: So sad to see this favorite restaurant closed! Such a wonderful little family establishment right on the beach. All in the name of commerce I guess. Very sad to see it close.

Review: I hope the new condos will reopen a new restaurant on the pier. Will miss the owner and the Driftwood as it is from my childhood along with the Holiday House, Ship Ahoy and Christina motels.

Review: Great place to eat, especially if you eat on the deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Perfect for a relaxing lunch. We love Cherry Grove Pier.
