My girlfriend's family raved about this place, so we decided to try it when she and i were there on vacation. The atmosphere is AWESOME. Best of any seafood restaurant around. Right on the water, literally, with views of the waterway and the shrimp/fishing boats. The food was delicious. Will definitely be back again next time I'm in the area.

We love this place, have eaten there at least 5 or 6 times in the last 10 years. Outside atmosphere with docks, boats and water is great. Went on a Tuesday night, the wait time to be seated was less then 30 minutes. This is calabash style which is fried food, and they give you plenty of food for the money; great service as well. Can't wait to come back again! :)

Friends recommended this restaurant to us, they have been patrons for years. We will certainly go back year after year. The food is great and reasonably priced. If you are looking for grilled vegetables you obviously don't understand southern calabash seafood which Dockside genuinely has with sweet iced tea, great hushpuppies, and fried seafood. Most southerners consider the cabbage in cole slaw a vegetable. We don't think about the mayo in it , we just feel better about all the fried food seeing something green on our plate! Live and enjoy!

Visited in July and loved it, as always. I haven't been in years because it is a little pricier than the other around, but it was well worth it (especially after we heard about the bad experience of our family who ate at their favorite, Capt. Nance's the same night)!!

My Family. And I have been eatting at Dockside for 20 years now. The food is always the same year after year. You can not. Get any better Sea food anywhere. Because it's always great from to ocean to the table. I do not understand why. That some of these people leave bad reviews. Because all the years I have ate there. I have been there in the Summer, Fall and winter. And the food is always the same. If it was as bad as the people are saying it is in some of these reveiws. Why would you have to wait 30 - 40 Minutes in line? We have tried some of the other Fish Camps in the area. You will never. Beat there price. And amout of food they give you. Another thing. If all these people say it's so bad. Then why have they been there since 1955? All the sea food places on Highway 17. That say they are Calabash. They are not! They are the ones that are the ripoffs. And do not have good food. The good food is at NC Calabash dockside. WE LOVE DOCKSIDE!

This was first time that we've tried the Dockside, but we've hit most of the others. I found the food here to be fabulous. I ended up with the platter that included the shrimp, flounder, oysters and crab cake. What I like most is the light battering that these places seem to have perfected. I was stuffed with delightful seafood and a well made Manhatten. My only complaint was with the young bartender with long dark hair. Although he made really good drinks, he needs to learn some manners. He stopped in the middle of making our drinks when another group came in and tended to them first, and then came back to us. Very odd, we seemed like we were last on his list. I ended up tipping him, but would like to take that back in hindsight. (Oh, and serve women first). I could barely move after all of the food I ate, which I felt was very reasonbly priced for what you got. Finally, I like the old school decor and views out the back. Note: The poor service grade is for the bad bartender, not the waitress.

Me and my family have been for many years now and the food has always been great! We always get the deluxe seafood platter and it is the same as always. The portions may have got smaller but the food still has the same great taste. I would always recommend Dockside to any South Carolina or North Carolina travelers! Love the hush pups! And always get those yummy dinner mints!

I have been coming to Dockside for 25 years and it's a trip my family looks forward to every year. Their stuffed flounder is out of this world! I was shocked by some of the bad reviews I've read as I have never had cold food or what I consider to be small portions. Everything is always hot and it's more food than I can eat. I have noticed the staff has changed but all the new staff are very friendly and helpful. The view of the dock makes this restaurant the best view in town. I would highly recommend Dockside!

This restaurant is horrible! the scenery is nice on the outside but that is it! The hush puppies were hard, the baked potatoes looked like they were cooked last week or microwaved. I ordered the combo plate with flounder and cold boiled shrimp. The shrimp were luke warm. It was so disgusting you could not eat it. The flounder was just ok along with the sweet tea.

We have eaten at this restaurant for over 20 years. Our meal a few months ago was great. Our last meal this past weelkend with a group of friends was not very good. The hushpuppies tasted greasy and seemed to be cooked in old grease. The flounder on several plates was cold. The gin and tonic tasted awful. The shrimp had no taste.

Went to this resturant because we are new to the area. From the outside the place looked really nice.Upon reading the menu, noticed everything was fried.Nothing wrong with that but I prefer broiled seafood. My husband suggested that I get the broiled catfish, because he said a bowl of soup does not a supper make.So I took his suggestion. He ordered the fried grouper.well the food came out,his grouper did not seem to appetizing.Fried food should be golden brown. This was kinda a muted brown. But maybe he will like it.My catfish, broiled supposedely, was so bland there was not enough salt and pepper to make it edible. Two bites was all I could tolerate. His meal not much better. So he ate the hush puppies and I the baked potatoe, and I don't even like potatoes.Would not recommend this place to my enemy.Bon appetite

This is a must stop to savor all the flavors of the Calabash area. The fresh seafood, served "hot" with generous portions along with endless hush puppies is well worth the wait (if there is a line when you get there). We have vacationed in the North Myrtle Beach area for the past 18 years and Calabash is always a pleasant drive from the hustle/bustle of the tourist/places and dining at Dockside. As for the negative reviews you are reading, things happen, but I feel anything which is below a customer's expectations that is brought before their wait staff/management will be taken care of. Stop here, you will not be disappointed !!

We read all the great reviews but we were severely dissapointed. The waitress was prompt and courteous .Our bill was 35.00 and would have been spent better elsewhere. My wife had Grouper and it was mostly all dark vein meat , I had flounder and scalops .The scalops were under cooked and fishy the flounder was paper thin and stuck to the skin. The highlight of the meal was the hushpuppies.

If you are looking for large portions of fried seafood for a reasonable price...then this is the place for you. Originally my family loved going to this restaurant. The portions are large. The hush puppies are good. But, we got tired of eating fried food, since that is what is so prevelant in Calabash. So we decided to try the broiled fish dinners. Well, there is an extra charge of approximately $1.50 per meal to have it broiled. That obviously doesn't include any seasoning. I inquired about having it blackened and that was an additional $1.50-2.00 per meal. I told the waitress that all of these add ons were starting to add up. She assured me that the fish was better without the blackening seasoning, that you got more of the natural fish flavor. Well, that is exactly what we got. Just a slab of fish with no seasoning at all. The outside of the fish was so dried out from the "broiling" process that it made the fish difficult to cut. Then to top it all off, I am usually very careful going over the bill, but it was very hard to read with all of the pen scribblings on the tiny piece of paper. So it is easy to see why I missed the fact that the waitress had added her tip on top of the meal charge for the four of us. The kicker is that she failed to mention it. Unfortunately, none of us noticed it until the next day after we were long gone. So, she ended up getting double tip in the end. That just seems like a scam to me. I worked in the restaurant business for many years and we always told our customers when the tip was added into the total. I guess she figured that we were from out of town and wouldn't be around to discuss it with her later. We decided that we won't be going back there on our next vacation to N. Myrtle Beach. We will go to The Boundary House instead.

STAY AWAY!!!!! Bar none the WORST seafood i have EVER eaten in my life - smallest seafood platter i have EVER seen - PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE! The food was cold. Have you ever seen a deluxe seafood platter served on a six inch plate?! OF course not, because that is just not right! I have been eating calabash style seafood my whole life and consider myself and expert on the fried seafood platter and during my 45 years i have NEVER had one that was this bad - oh, and by the way, the hushpuppies are just regular old frozen hushpuppies - please, if you are in the mood for fried seafood drive and extra 20 minutes and go to myrtle beach

It was ok but not remarkable. Hush puppies were not very warm when they arrived. No honey butter available, just margarine. Kitchen got order wrong, waitress didn't notice. Beautiful setting, lots of fried seafood as expected. Oysters excellent. Shrimp and clam strips average. Cole slaw great :O) This is the 2nd time we've eaten here over the years. I think some of the other restaurants in the same area are a bit better but really, the ones we've eaten at so far are all very similar.

Flounder was cold and mushy, was not like any flounder I have ever had in my entire life, baked potatoe was not done when told the waitress about the potatoe she said she new it was not done. When paid for the meal and told lady about how bad the fish was her comment was if you had told your waitress they would "have refried the fish for you" refried can't get over that comment. This is one place I would never give my money to again.. In other words it was horrible*****.

All four of us thought this place was TERRIBLE!! The boiled shrimp ws gritty, over cooked, over buttered, just awful. Had to switch it out for a burger (another mistake). My grouper was raw in the middle, with no flavor. Does this restaurant know there are vegetables available to serve? All they seemed to have were potatoes, coleslaw and hushpuppies. I guess we made the mistake of not ordering everything deep fried. I would skip this place if keeping your food down is important to you.

I simply cannot believe the good reviews this restaurant is getting, obviously from people who have been deprived of good seafood. the food is VERY greasy and over-priced. I have never had good seafood at any beach restaurant. They are all over-priced and grreasy. The coctail sauce at the Dockside is not good either and the baked potato was hard inside. It is difficult to make a bad baked potato but they manage to do so. The best seafood I have ever had is at the Farmer's Market Seafood Restaurant in Raleigh, NC, you get ALOT of food, the fried shrimp is lightly battered and NOT greasy and for $8.00 you get enough to split with another person. Do not go to the grease pit aka Dockside.

This was by far the single most horrific dining experience I've ever had. Stay away, stay far away!!! The food was just horrible. Our shrimp were bordering on raw, severely undercooked. They even brought us new shrimp, and they still were undercooked, almost raw. We're lucky nobody ended up sick. Even the waitress commented on how our shrimp looked raw. Nothing else tasted particulary well, except for the hushpuppies. I guess anything deep-fried and dipped in butter tastes good though. Our waitress was also horrible. She couldn't even remember which check was ours when it was time to go. Upon leaving, and paying, we could not get anyone to take our money up front. The lady doing this job was too busy talking to the hostess, finally, the hostess directed the cashier over. While paying, the cashier received a phone call, personal in nature, and ignored us the rest of the time; absolutely no discourse, except to slide the pen and paper in front of me to sign the check. This place was horrible, shame, shame, shame.

Oh my gosh, this was the worse dinner my family has ever eaten. Ever!!! Where to start? The shrimp were undercooked to point of bordering on still being raw. I'm not sure how it was they were even breaded. Of course the breading slid right off. I'm glad nobody got sick, as my children and wife were in the same boat. I spit mine out, tried another, and had to spit it out again; and I stopped everyone else from eating their shrimp as well. I told my waitress the situation and received more shrimp to find they were raw too. She even commented that they looked raw. I'm still not sure how one breads raw shrimp, but they did. Moving on, the fish was burned on the bottom; I could do a better job of frying fish in a skillet at home. The crab cake and oysters were ok. I'll admit the hush puppies were good, but I'm not sure the money I spent was worth a dinner consisting of hush puppies. Further, our waitress was horrible. She could not remember anything, having to come back and ask questions. When it was time for the bill, she kept getting our check confused with the five others she had written. And finally, upon trying to pay for my meal up front, the cashier would not come over as she was talking to a co-worker at the reception stand. Finally, her co-worker directed her to take our money. During which time she received a phone call, personal, and proceeded to talk the entire time she rang me up. How unprofessional, get a clue. This was by far the worse meal I've ever eaten at a restaurant, and I've been around a few years, and eat out quite a bit. We went to a local seafood buffet in Myrtle Beach the next day and were glad to taste real seafood, good seafood. It was so good, we went back for a second round the next day. As for this place, a giant tourist trap, stay away, and get real seafood.

For our first trip to Myrtle Beach, we did our research and decided to venture to Calabash to eat at Dockside. We were seated promptly. Our food arrived shortly after ordering. The seafood was better than we can find inland, but slightly disappointing. The shrimp were tiny, but they did have a good clean taste. The flounder tasted ok, but lacked the sweet, almost flavorless taste you get with fresh flounder. The hushpuppies were very good, and were delivered to our table upon our waitress greeting us. We will go back and try them again, maybe they can live up to the high expectations we had for the establishment. The value was good, the portions were large, and the staff was friendly.

For several years now we just quit trying seafood in the Myrtle Beach area because it was overpriced and portions were very small. We decided to try going back to Calabash and I am glad we did. This is old style seafood that I remember from way back. Everything was great, fresh food, plenty of it and service was outstanding. To top it off it was reasonably priced. I Highly recommend this place.

My wife had the fried clam and I had the seafood platter. The oysters on the seafood platter were just mouth watering. We recommend the Dockside to anyone who want great food at a truly reasonable price.
PS. The sweet tea and hushpuppies--are the best in the south!!

Once again we had a fantastic meal at the best place to eat in Calabash. We travel over 500 miles for a vacation each year and the Dockside is always the place we enjoy our meal the most. The platters were large and the food fit for a King. This is truly the place to get the best seafood and streaks at a reasonable price.

Dockside is where you go when you want Calabash-style seafood--in other words, fried with more fried on the side. Don't go and order a steak, or the grilled chicken, or a salad because you will be very disappointed. The tables are sticky and the dining room is loud. However, if you want to get your fried food fix, you should leave happy. And they have cool T-shirts for $8.95.

We made our annual trip to the Dockside and again were not dissapointed with the service or the food. The wait is long but it is worth the time for the food is great and the puppies are out of this world. We will be back again to the Dockside next year and would recommend it to just plain folks for good eating at a reasonable price.

My family and I go to Dockside everytime we go to Myrtle Beach! It is our family's favorite!! My whole family likes their steak and seafood... but I am a picky eater... so I get their cheeseburger and it is DELiCiOUS! And Dockside has great chicken strips too! So... if you think this place is only for steak and seafood-lovers... you are wrong!! You can find food there for anyone... even the pickiest eaters! ;] THiS WiLL BECOME YOUR FAMiLY'S MYRTLE BEACH RESTARAUNT!! =]

We have been going to Calabash for years. We were faithful to a neighbor restaurant of Dockside, then a couple of years ago tried Dockside and now we go there every year. We have learned over the years to go early to avoid waiting in line. Seafood is my favorite food, steak a close second. I have to admit, after trying the ribeye steak, which was the size of the giant platter it was served on, I now order the steak with a side of seafood. Whether you get the seafood or steak, I recommend this restaurant.

This is probably one of my all-time favorite seafood restaurants on the Grand Strand. Its claim to fame with my family is of course the fried, calabash shrimp. The last time I went here, last October, was not the greatest experience. In fact it was the worst I've had here. I did something I had never done here before, and that's deviate from the large seafood platter, and order prime rib instead. I shouldn't have. It was the worst prime rib I have ever had, hands down. But I've dined here all of my life, and up until last October never had a bad dish. Next time I'll revert back to what I always came here to eat in the first place - calabash fried shrimp, devils crab, and fried flounder.

My wife and I had the seafood platters that were fantastic and the hushpuppies were incrediable to the taste buds. We are looking forward to returning this summer on vacation and having a meal at the Dockside.

We've eaten at several restaurants near Myrtle Beach and after all the good reviews we've seen for Dockside figured we'd give it a try. Boy, were we disappointed. The menu was quite limited and if you didn't want your food deep-fried they charged you extra for the same item. The scallops did not taste good (very fishy) and the fried clamstrips were also not good. The clam chowder was good, but that was about it (our server was prompt and on the ball though). I do not recommend this restaurant.

My family and I have been going to Myrtle Beach as long as I can remember and we always look forward to having good seafood. After 46 years of going there on vacation, I can honestly say that I like Dockside the best. You get an ample portion of seafood because they put your potato of choice on a side dish; a lot of restaurants put a huge baked potato on your plate and then reduce the amount of seafood. Not Dockside. Some people complain that everything is fried; you're in the south....we fry things! But you can get seafood prepared other ways and yes it requires some extra time, but that's not unusual for any restaurant. If you wanna pay big money and go to a buffet where the food has been sitting for who knows how long....great; but at Dockside, it's reasonably priced, generous portions and the food tastes good.

After reading the reveiws, we decided on Dockside. With so many restaurants to choose from, how does one pick?

Labor Day is not the weekend to come to Calabash. There was an hour and half wait.

The staff was most courteous and doing all they could do. You can not be in a hurry. The food was excellent and prices very reasonable. We had the stuffed flounder and grouper special with wild rice, yum. We can't wait to go back - just not on a holiday.. .

I have been going to Dockside for as long as I can remember and I have never had a bad experience. The food is great and you defintley get your money's worth. I love the veiw, but if you plan on going during the summer make sure you get there early or plan on waiting, but it's worth the wait. The past few visit's have been even nicer because they are now doing specials every night and I haven't had a bad one yet. The trip wouldn't be the same without stopping by Dockside.

I would not recommend this place. It's a tourist trap. This place is just not that great, not horrible but not great. I ordered the raw oysters and it didn't taste freshly shucked but spooned out from a container from a store. The stuffed flounder was way over cooked and the soft shell crab didn't taste great. And you can't order vegetables, like brocolli. Almost EVERYTHING is fried! Maybe because I'm used to foods from the north-east restaurants, but this place is just a mass production of mediocre food with competitive prices.

The fish was good and at a very reasonable price. Our group had three fish lovers and me, all reports on the lobster, grouper, shrimp, and scallops were very positive, they really liked it. I had a ribeye and can't remember the last time I had one that bad, I took about three bites and had hush puppies and some charity scallops (which were very good) the rest of the night. I know what you're thinking, don't order a steak at a fish place, I've tried it before and had good luck - not this time. I recommend Dockside to people looking for good fish at a reasonable price.

My wife and our family have been coming to the Dockside for over 35 years and continue to love the atmosphere and the warmth we always get form our servers. We especially like the hushpuppies and the variety of serving you can order. The deep fried serving have always been crisp and never soggy (I can taste those oysters and hushpuppies now). We recently drove form Lititz, PA to the Myrtle Beach area for the weekend and the birthday meal at the Dockside made the over 1000 mile experience well worth the trip.

My family and I have eaten at the Dockside over 30 years. We go at least once every trip to Myrtle Beach. The orginal building burned in the 80's. The food is outstanding. Try to get a table near the window. The views are great in the late evening. It has become a family tradition that we eat there during the week of Thanksgiving.

I was highly disappointed with this restaurant. My family and I went to this restaurant because it wasn't a seafood buffet and the review said it had great views. The actual seafood did not come from the boats that you could see from the restaurant -- it looked a whole lot like the shrimp I can buy from Sam's club. Everything seafood-wise was fried and I mean everything. You had to ask for it to be cooked another way and the other way was broiled and it was an extra cost. The view that my family had was by the front door and we were sitting next to a return air vent that was full of dust. I am not a high maintenance person, but the dining room and bathrooms could use a little bit of cleaning. My family and I got there around 5pm and did not have to wait at all. Had I gotten there and had to wait for the meal that I got I would of been madder than I am now about the food. I'm not saying that the food was completley horrible, it just seemed like it all came out of the same frier and not a whole lot of uniqueness about anything. Oh one last thing..I ordered raw oysters and I got a bowl full of them, yes a bowl full of them. Were they shucked in the back or bought buy the buckets?

Great seafood on the waterfront in Calabash. Great views from almost anywhere in the diningroom. The only setback is that you need to make reservations and/or be prepared to have a wait. The restaurant stays packed in the summer months and always a wait but you can always walk around the docks and see the boats and fish & shrimp that were caught that day.
