We ate here at about 3:30 in the afternoon. There may have been only 10-15 other customers in the place. We were seated right away. The place is nice, it's right on the water. It has a good view of the dock and boats. Our waiter took our order and got our drinks quick. That was the last of the drinks unitl we were almost finished. After we were given our food, the guy just walked off, no questions on if we needed anything, how was it cooked, nothing. We tried to waive down a waitress to get our guy and you would have thought we flipped her off. She gave us a horrible look like how dare we try to get her attention. The food was good, I will give them that. But the service SUCKED!! Won't be back.

My wife and I went here for the first time recently. She ordered the barbeque sandwich while I got the lump crabcake sandwich. Her sandwich was flavorful but had far too much sauce for the amount of meat. However, my major complaint is that the crabcake was almost entirely backfin crab and not "lump" crabmeat as listed on the menu. When I complained to the manager, he at first claimed it was lump crabmeat then he said that it was "backfin lump." This is apparently how he managed to rationalize passing it off as lump crabmeat on the menu.

Went ot DD last night for an early dinner, had an excellent time and diner. We requested outdoor seating, and even got to choose our own table. Our waitress, Lisa was awesome and recommend most of our dishes. My wife loved the crab cake sandwich, Daughter had the shrimp "po" boy, my son had the scallop bow wow basket and I had the blackened fish sandwich. Everything was great as was the view over the inlet.

We visit Murrells Inlet frequently and every time we visit The Dead Dog we get the same bartender. Big, goofy muscle guy. Horrible service. Never greets us, acts like we are lucky to be waited on and he kept disappearing to sneak over to the restaurant next door to do shots while he was working! No wonder we had such bad service. We won't go back.

New menu has been made. I am a "local" frequent customer who was surprised to learn that only certain sandwiches are available before 4 PM. Prices have gone up as well and it took a long time at 30 minutes before closing time to get a sandwich. Absolutely HATE all the smoking in outside and inside bar areas. Wish they would limit it to one or the other bars, not BOTH. Waiters and staff yell across restaurant to each other.

Just happened upon Dead Dog Saloon while out sightseeing in April 2011 for spring break. Thought it may not be appropriate for 2 - 14 year old girls but it was. the food was wonderful and the atmosphere fantastic overlooking the pier. ate lunch and had a couple of really cold Bud Light Lime beers (which are not sold everywhere) on the deck. the free hushpuppies are the best we've ever had. taste like the Sweet Betsy hushpuppy mix from N. Carolina. the girls had chicken fingers and a huge burger; I had the crab cake and my husband had the fish bites. just wish they had a nice dipping sauce to serve with the crab cake. will definitely come back when we're in the area. I am all for supporting the locals and hope this is owned by a local.

I have lived in Murrells Inlet for over a year now and have been to Dead Dog several times and liked it. I brought family to the restaurant 2 times in July 2010. The first time it was great the 2nd time the waitress couldn't be less interested in our table. Hushpuppies never came to the table and when we asked we were given an old stale pile of crap. She tried to tell us they were just made but the black charcoal piece kinda through her story out the window. We decided to give them another try in October but unfortunately we got the same waitress and her attitude hadn't changed. She was so busy seeing friends she had us wait 40 minutes for sandwiches and a salad. When we did get our food the warm sandwiches were ice cold. I complained to a manager with the owner standing nearby but no one seemed to care. So guess what you lost a customer.

I went to this establishment a week or two ago with a couple of friends. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the rude hostess, I thought that her face would crack if she smiled. She apparently does not enjoy her job. We were seated as we watched the hostess walk away with such a wonderful view she gave us. I don't know how she got into to those black spandex leggings. You could see every part of her lower half. Not appetizing. The hostess walked away and stopped to chit chat with some people on the way.... taking her time. We sat at our table for probably twenty minutes before we finally flagged down our server. We asked why we hadn't been waited on Guess What? The hostess forgot. We finally got our luke warm over priced beer. Not our servers fault. She was a sweet little girl who was very apologetic. I ordered a flounder basket. My fish came out raw in the center and very slimy. Gross. I sent it back. When my flounder returned it appeared to be the same piece of fish cooked to death. What a disappointment, coming to a restaurant in Murrells Inlet I would think that they would take pride in their food. Our server knew that we were upset, she was kind enough to go and get the manager. As the "manager" approached my table I couldn't believe that the "hostess" was the manager on duty. Her immediate words to us were "What's the problem?" We explained. She turned from us giving us another eyeful and said I will take it off your bill. There was no sorry, no can I get you something else. This girl is a real gem. Our server returned embarrassed, nice as could be. We asked our server about the Manager...... SHE is the OWNERS DAUGHTER!!!! Wow. Is she upset because her Dog is Dead? Or is she just a spoiled Brat? I will NEVER be back.

I have gone with visitors twice this past couple of months, and both times everyone was delighted. We sat outside with a beautiful view, great weather, and had live entertainment. The food was wonderful. I love the Tilapia with dill and lemon. My husband really enjoyed the shrimp & grits, and our friends thought what they had was yummy. After dinner it is relaxing to take a stroll on the marsh walk. All and all it makes for a lovely evening.

I decided to take my girlfriend to dead dog saloon for our 3 month anniversary. Worst decision I've ever made. The service was slow, the waitress forgot straws and gave me the wrong drink; didn't bring me the right one for 10 minutes with my appetizer and, suprise! our meal at the same time. I don't complain, I just don't go back. I wouldn't suggest you do either.

My family and I go to this restaurant every year to enjoy the Bil Krauss show. The owner came up to us after we were done eating and asked us to leave, since we were done. We specifically drive the distance to enjoy his performance, and after spending over 150 dollars, we were made to leave for doing nothing. Our table was the only one asked to leave, and the owner then suggested that we sit at the bar. Keeping in mind that there was a 12 year old with us; not a place for any child that age to be sitting. We will no longer be going to this establishment, due to the poor service and extremely rude customer service.

4 golfers who spent the post-round afternoon on the patio having many drinks and lots of food. We had an awesome time. We would have prefered to have the beautiful waitress but the guy that we had was very, very good. The gator piss shots were really good but pretty expensive. That would be our only complaint. The she-crab soup was very good as well as the fall off the bone ribs (John says they were the best he ever had and he's one picky guy). I had the fried seafood platter and thought it was well above average. I also had oysters on the half shell that I just loved. The atmosphere was great. The food was great. The service was great. And the rest of the clientel was great. It was like one big party at 3 pm. All in all, we would go back again.

We had grilles steak on french bread for appetizers sprinkled with mozarella - very fresh and tasty. We had fresh scallops and shrimp that were grilled and very fresh and good! Great drinks - their ultimate margarita one of the best marg. we have had. The waitor was very friendly and quick. The food was EXCELLENT and the view - beautiful! We will definetly go back!

We've enjoyed our trips to Dead Dog! Especially the 9/11 tribute they do and the money they raise! They make it a very enjoyable day with lots of great music! Their food is darn good as well. The ribs are great!! Everything I've tried has been good so far. We definately make it a point to come back year after year! PS. Thanks for all you do to honor 9/11 & raise money for worthy organizations!!

We had lunch today and were extremely dissatified with the quality of service and food served. The childs hot dogs were uneatable. Clam strips were burnt and mostly overcooked. Service was very slow. I stopped in today to have a bev about 2;30. I went to the bar (one level up) out on the water. I sat there about 7/8 min's and about 4 or 5 waiters went by and never even acknowledge my presences. There was a manager to the left of me talking to a contractor (I think) and he was looking in my direction from the time I walked in and made no effert to get someone to serve me. I realize that he was doing business but a customer is paying for that contractor I can see by the reviews that there is a strong need for some one to asses the level of service at this establishment. I went down the street and was treated the way a customer should be.

My husband and I ate here twice on our vacation because we had so much fun! The food was really great. My husband got salmon one time and a crab cake sandwich the next time and he loved it! I had a cheeseburger one time which was cooked perfect just like I asked and the other time I had the club sandwich which I couldn't even finish because it was so big and we also got hushpuppies beforehand which were free with a delicious cinnamon butter! The staff was very friendly and we were seated right away. We sat out on the covered deck because that's where the live music was. We were there for the Bill Krauss show which was hysterical and he got everyone involved and the other time was a band of 3 men who were awesome but can't remember their names. We would definitely go back there if we were in Myrtle Beach again! I miss it already! Fun time for the whole family of all ages!

Had the opposite experience of the previous review. We were seated in the back patio at Dead Dog 9/8/09 and our server was amazing. I wish I remembered her name to give her a shout out, but she was super friendly and sweet and we thought she was great. The food was really great, awesome prices, and we were there during a Bill Krauss performance, which was a lot of fun. We loved the Dead Dog Saloon and will definitely go back!

Been there many times before on previous vacations. This time I am vacationing with friends and decided to take them here for dinner. There was six of us and seating was immediate. Our waiter was great...food was delivered as ordered and we had a great time. Obviously it is kinda loud because it is a bar but we knew that going in. My friend loved the class 5 hurricane drink and we all left feeling full. Will return again next trip

My family went out for dinner on Wednesday night around 6:30pm to dead dog. We had no wait for a table of three. The food was served quick with very little wait. Our waiter came by frequently to check on us. I ordered the sea food platter which was a little greasy and would rate it a 7 out of 10. My wife ordered the chicken and ribs which she was quite pleased with. The meat seemed to fall right off the bone on the ribs. Plenty of things to see for the little ones. She liked looking at all the dog stuff around the restuarant. There was a live band outside on patio but we sat inside. Smoking was allowed in the enclosed patio and that was a minus, We are from New York and smoking is banned in all restuarants inside or out. All in all a pleasant experience. We would go again on a return trip to Myrtle beach but not good enough to do twice in one trip.

A favorite of this local. Recommend to all visitors. Haven't been disappointed yet. Outstanding for July 4th Boat Parade. The absolute best place to spend the 9/11 anniversary - this year was my first, but I intend to go back each year. All day music, complimentary food, raffles, auctions, and lots of fun for a great charitable cause. Just remember, when it's busy, it may be harder to get drinks, but just be a little patient and the staff will get to you. If you like to complain about everything everywhere, do us locals a favor, don't come to the Dead Dog.

This is a great family place. You can sit inside, where it is quiet, outside on the north side where you can hear the music or on the south side where the bands play. It isn't unusual for the bands to get small children involved in the performances. I eat there at least once a month for dinner and really enjoy the view. The food has quality and is priced reasonably. The inside bar has a little class. The bar on the deck has a communal feeling where it is easy to meet people. Both tourists and locals can be seen having a good time nightly.

Here is a review from a restaurant professional. Wait time 1hr 20 minutes, Quoted 20 minutes. 15 minutes after being seated we had to ask a server to take our order. We were not in her section, but she took care of us anyway. We orderd Apps, salads and entrees. We were served Salads first then our Apps then our entrees right on top of our Apps. I had $23.. grouper I do not believe it was grouper the potato was cold as was the veg. I sent it back and did not get anything else. No Manager visit to our table? ALL this being said I would go back and get a burger, cold beer and listen to the music, But Never for a special ocasion or for anything more than pub food.

I'm a local and I like this place for lunch although the last time we went we tried the crab dip and it wasn't very good. The beef tenderloin app. was wonderful though. It's a good price for lunch and the food is good. If you want loud partying and a band playing, go for dinner. I usually don't because I don't want loud music while I'm eating but it is a party at night. I like this place fine and go there a lot.

OK - here's the REAL skinny on this restaurant, coming from locals. The reason the Dead Dog gets so many mixed reviews is that this place is really primarily a "Saloon". I admit that the couple of times my husband and I actually ate dinners here, the food was pretty much average. But being a "saloon", and in a setting that is as beautiful as you can find, food is just not the main thing to come here for. Basics like burgers and similar platters are fine, just don't go for the fancier meats or seafood. Here's the deal - this is an EXCELLENT place to come for Happy Hour, or if you just want to eat some appetizers with drinks at any time. During 4 or 5 winter months, they have a deal where all appetizers are half price from 5-7 PM. Most of the appetizers are good, especially the tenderloin bites, which other reviewers have mentioned. So we love to sit at the outdoor bar (indoor one's small but nice, too), look out over the harbor, and make a light dinner of about two appetizers each over a couple of hours. That's what the Dead Dog is best at - not "foodie" meals. The bands that play on weekends at about 8-8:30 are good too, and better than at Creek Ratz next door.

Please avoid this restaurant! We returned two of our 4 meals because they were inedible. The waiter recommended the blackened Mahi Mahi with fettucinini Alfredo. The pasta was way overcooked and runny. It had no flavor at all. The fish also had no taste. My son's hamburger, ordered well-done was raw. My husband ordered french fries and got onion rings. Our waiter disappeared for 15 minutes so we had to call the manager. To his credit, the manager did discount our meals but it wasn't a pleasant experience.

My family and I visited the location on Highway 17 tonight and WOW----we were VERY disappointed to say the least. After all the good reviews we were excited to try this place. First of all, we had a party of 8 (6 adults and 2 children) and it took 45 minutes to get a table - no biggie - if most of the restaurant hadnt been EMPTY!! There were SEVERAL tables, but we waited. Then we were told that they will not do seperate checks....that is in order to get the automatic 18% tip - and what kind of service do you get when that happens?? The kind we got-----CRAPPY! As far as the food, I'd rather eat a "dead dog" then to eat the food we had - not to mention it was cold and VERY overpriced!! I am very sad that I put my family through that!!!

I was not impressed with this place. A friend that lives in Murrell's Inlet asked us to meet him there so we did and very sorry that we did. Our waiter must have been new. He was not very attentive, forgot several things, and seemed more interested in the things around him than the people sitting in front of him. I ordered a $17.00 dish that should have came with a salad and 2 sides (I never received those), and after asking about them I finally asked that they be taken off the bill. He comes back to say he has taken off a mixed drink that was not on my bill anyway. Finally after not knowing how to remedy the problem he just takes the whole meal off my bill which is not what I was asking for but whatever. I just wanted out of there. I won't return to this place again!!

I am a local and have been a customer of the Dead Dog Saloon for the past four years. I have always brought friends or out of town guests to the restaurant. On my last visit I noticed the menu had changed and food portions and quality has gone down. I had the chicken salad sandwich - nothing to write home about - very bland and the cole slaw was warm & $5.50 for a glass of house wine! That's crazy. There are other places close by with not necessarily the same atmosphere with better value. I don't mind paying if you get what you pay for.

We ate there on New Year's Eve and plan to never go back. I cannot understand the good reviews here because that was certainly not our experience!! We arrived very early and were seated immediately. The hushpuppies, which we had to ask for, were cold. My sister's grouper was NOT cooked, my pasta in the shrimp scampi was cold, and the bread served with the pasta was BLAH. The drinks, served in small plastic cups, were awful and expensive. The waitress was not attentive, we waited for ever to order drinks. Our total bill was $76 for the two of us. I felt completely ripped off. We had PLASTIC baskets and a big roll of paper towels. You certainly don't get what you pay for there. The "entertainment" was the Mullets, which I saw described as "South Carolina's Second Best Band." If that's all you have to offer, please come up to North Carolina. The seafood is far better in Calabash and Morehead City and Beaufort, NC. We were incredibly disappointed with the Dead Dog. Maybe it should rest in peace.

I head to the Murrells Inlet area every few months and I make it a point to stop at Dead Dog with my friends. Have been there about half dozen times and haven't been disappointed yet, including a stop in for drinks/appetizers and then again for lunch on my most recent trip. On each visit we have either sat in the bar area out back or on the deck. The food has been good on each occasion, and the wait staff is super. No complaints from me. It is what it is... a nice place to kick back, have a couple of cocktails and bite to eat, and enjoy the atmosphere & environment.

We visited the Dead Dog July 4th 2006 while waiting to be seated at Drunken Jacks, which was going to be about an hour and 1/2 wait.We actually went up to the bar to get some beers while waiting and were listening to the music. We checked out a menu and decided the food and prices looked attractive so we put our names in and decided to dine here. The prime rib was excellent and the rib eye steak was as good as I have ever eaten. I recommend this restaurant highly and frankly think it is a better value for your money than Drunken Jack's. The walk along the marsh with a cold one is beautiful and relaxing while waiting to be seated.

My family and I visited your resturant on June 28th, 2006 in great hopes of a good meal. and service. We a were greeted and seated promptly and had a very sweet and personalbe waitress. All six of us, five adults and one child gave the waitress our dinner selections. She brought our drinks and appetizers to us as we waited for our meals.

We then waited over hour for our food and had to asked our waitress several times about our food. She went back to the kitchen and asked each time and was told that it would be out shortly. Each wait became longer and we were about to leave, and she continually apologized fot the delay. We finally got our food a hour and 45 min later. We proceeded to eat and our food and it was luke warm and my husbands food was hot on he outside but the inside but it was cold in the middle. We sent it back and it came back cold again and it still wasn't very good. Mine was luke warm and only ate a few bite of mine. We spent $140.00 on food that was of poor quality and that the resturant doesn't take the pride that is needed fro thier customers. We had a great waitress, but I hope the managment improves along with thier food. My rating is below average to poor. Needless to say we won't return. We were on vacation and loved where we stayed in Garden City, but unfortunatetly, we had bad food and service at the Dead Dog.
Very unsatisfied customers.

My husband and I went to Dead Dog for dinner. I had the crab cake dinner and my husband had the prime rib dinner. This was the worst meal I have ever had. The crab cakes were burnt, with way too much filler and way too little crab, the mashed potatoes were horrible and the green beans came out of a can or were frozen. My husband said that his prime rib was the worst he has ever had. I would never go back for dinner again but I would go back for lunch and stick with the hamburgers. The view was wonderful and the staff was very efficient and friendly.

Stopped by here for lunch on a rainy Friday afternoon. Still able to sit outside on the deck, as it is covered. Had the sauteed grouper sandwich that was delicious - great seasonings. Also, the oyster po' boy was very good. I have been to the Dead Dog for drinks on a previous trip and sat at the outside bar and enjoyed myself then... the bands seem to have a reputation for being good, and the band I saw that particular Friday night did not disappoint. Will definitely visit again.

We were very excited about the reviews on this website only to find out that the outdoor seating that everyone raves about, is beautiful, but the band plays all night. The music selection was good, but very, very loud. The waitress was excellent and was very attentive and polite, even when a dish came out wrong. What really appalled us was when the manager came over and told us that the meal was cooked right and if you went inside to the kitchen, in the correct light, you would see. It took a little coaxing, but she finally agreed to remake the meal correctly. The food was alright, but we left with a bad taste in our mouth.

Ended up at Dead Dog Saloon on July 3rd, barely any wait! Food and service were really good. Fun atmosphere. Too bad it poured and we weren't able to eat outside. Looking forward to the next time!
