We have been coming to Colemans for about the last 15 years. For all of these years we have stayed at Travel Park campground which is walking distance from all of the seafood places along restaurant row. We would drive to Colemans for seafood because it was always the best anywhere. We especially enjoyed the fried flounder and the hush puppies. Then suddenly in 2007 things changed! The flounder is greasy and the pieces are smaller, the taste is not as good, and the hush puppies are different (ugh). Read the reviews for yourself, we wont be back!

Save your money. The last 2 times I have eaten here, the service was horrible and the food wasn't much better. My dad got very ill from eating shrimp and although we gave it a second try recently, it wasn't any better. Crab Catchers in Little River is a much better value. I've eaten here for the last time.

Colemans is an amazing seafood restaurant. The service is wonderful, the food was delicious and the outside view was the best. When we first arrived there was a wait but it was obvious the hostess was doing the best she could to keep the customers happy and into the restaurant to eat. She gave us an approx. wait time and it was about half, which started us off happy. We've been going to Calabash for years and I'm so pleased that we decided to try this one.

Place was nice and quiet....because nobody was there. Nice views...no outdoor seating. Everything...and I mean everything was fried. I know that's "calabash style"....but everything? "Hushpuppies" were simply deep fried dough. No taste...other than grease. Waitress answered questions like it was her first day.

We have been going to Coleman's for many years. The flounder is my favorite and I am seldom disappointed. I saw another review that stated that you were not given refills on their great hushpuppies. They must remember us from year to year because when my grandchildren are with us we have received as many as six or more refills. Love this place and I received four refills on my drink last night without asking even once.

My wife and I ate at Colemans when we were headed to our vacation in Myrtle Beach. My wife had stuffed flounder, and according to her, it was average. I had fried shrimp and they were breaded very heavy. Calabash is supposed to be lightly breaded. I had to pull the bread from around my shrimp as it was just too much. The service here was average, with no complaints. We were seated within 15 minutes, and that is good for Calabash during summer. The noise level and atmosphere was about the same for most Calabash restaurants.

I was not pleased with the heavy breading of my shrimp. I will try another restaurant in Calabash next year.

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. My scallops were cold and not good. My husband ordered a platter of oysters, shrimp and clam strips. He only got 2 oysters. Never got refills on tea or water.

Probably will NOT go back there.

We understand the wait time to get in,but after you are seated the wait is another half hour. The shrimp was not hot warn at best, no refills on hushpuppies, had to ask twice to get drink refills. I know this is a fish house but it used to be quality food. Now it is like most fish houses, shrimp was fried to death then served luke warm.

I'm a Ky man that live's far from the shore. I love seafood of any kind. Me and my wife ate at one of the mega seafood resurants in M. B. and there were plenty of it but very tastless at the price..The food was no good, the crowd was enormous, the noise was ear damaging. I was going on a deep sea fishing trip and ran upon this restaurant and just the aroma pulled me in. There were others around it but this one caught my eye. The flownder was huge and the best I have ever eatden. All the food was very fresh and I have had no better.

After reading many glowing reviews we thought this would be the spot. Sorry to say not true. We ate there June,16 2008. The seafood was not served fresh and hot. The fried seafood was a little greasy as if it had been cooked for a while and I am not surprised if this was so. Although we dined at 7 pm, one of the busiest times ,they were not crowded. This should have been our first clue.

This used to be my favorite seafood restaurant. I would tell everyone, go to the original. I loved their flounder and shrimp. No more...on June 13, 2009 I ordered the small seafood plater for 14.95 and was totally disapointed. The flounder was of low quality and only one small piece. The shrimp looked like it was scraped from the bottom of the fryer. I was surprised the waitress actually served this. It is obvious the regular cook was not there. The oysters, well I don't like oysters so I can't comment on them. I have been going there for 25+ years. But probably never again. Sorry, I guess all good things do come to an end.

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. The food is wonderful and we love being able to sit down by the waterfront area. My kids always look forward to coming here and then hitting the stores to shop. The food is more than you would expect, the Flounder is huge and is always so flavorful and good. This is one of the best places to eat and is well worth the drive from Ocean Lakes. You will not be sorry.

Needless to say, Coleman's is the best all around. I grew up eating there because the original owner was my Uncle Curt and my Aunt Lucy. I have so many wonderful memories there and I'm so proud my cousins have continued the restaurant. You won't regret dining there. Everything is great. The hushpuppies (originally called "corn dodgers") are awsome!

We have been eating at Coleman's every year for about 10 years. This year, the quality seems to have dropped. My oysters and shrimp were just ok. The shrimp were tiny. My dad was happy they had a senior's menu but that was the only high point for us. I think we are going to try someplace new next year.

Hush puppies and sweet tea rounded out a wonderful meal. Spoke to the owners after dinner and they we so welcoming...we always feel like family at Coleman's. You can't go wrong with the "original".

We have been eating at Coleman's for the last 10 years every time we come to SC. I am always bummed if we come during the winter months because they close. I know that it is a seafood restaurant, but our favorite is their BBQ. They have the best BBQ around. Our service has always been the best and the food always hot. We had met the owner there on many occasions and we were always asked if there was anything we were not satisfied with.

Every time my family is in North Myrtle Beach, we always go to Colemans at least once while we are there. The food is delicious. We go through 2 baskets of hushpuppies normally and lots of sweet tea. I usually get the broiled shrimp and it is so good! Me and my husband are going there in 2 weeks and I definitely cant wait to go to Colemans.

I first ate at Coleman's with my dad and brother years ago when we were on a Family Vacation, and I absolutely fell in love with the service, food, and views that surrounded me. When I graduated high school back in '06, I took my fiance there to eat and he fell in love with everything too. We loved everything about the restuarant. And actually, it is more than just a restuarant, it is a place to go and relax and enjoy the most amazing seafood that someone could ever put in their mouth. We highly recommend it. I hope each and every one of you who read this who have not been to go and try the food. You will gain a wonderful experience.

Coleman's Came to us highly recommended. The fried seafood was mediocre at best with very small popcorn shrimp. The boiled shrimp were even more small and grossly overcooked to the point of being white and spongy. Serving sizes are very small while price is the same as other restaurants. Have eaten at Calabash very frequently and have found the Dockside and Ella's far outshine this restaurant. Service was poor or so I think that I should not have been requires to ask for refills of tea 3 times before receiving same. Baked potatoes were brown and tasted burned. Draw your own conclusions as to whether you would ever visit this restaurant

My husband and I just got back from Myrtle Beach. We were not dissapointed in any of the restaurants we ate at. We had found Coleman's when we were trying to find a place for a boat ride and decided to give it a try. Glad we did! It was early so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was pleasant and the service was fast and good. The Hush Puppies and Sweet tea were very good. I had the Mahi Mahi and it was excellant. My husband had the Calabash Shrimp and enjoyed his meal also. The view was nice and would recommend Coleman's to anyone.

The best place for fresh seafood right off the fishing boats! The deviled crab is the best you have ever eaten. Portions are huge and do not forget about the hushpuppies! They are the best, especially with the sweet honey butter to dip them in. I have never had to wait long for a table, even tho they are always plenty of people waiting around for some of the best fresh seafood they have ever eaten! The service is fast and the workers are very friendly people. The view of the water is beautiful. You can even walk out on the docks to look at the fishing boats. This place is always a must when ever we come to Myrtle Beach. It is one of our favorites! I have been coming here for years!!

Regarding the last review, I was also there that night and while I can't comment on some of the observations, I can say that the waitresses DID wear uniforms and our service was outstanding! Manager was dining in the dining room at 4:30 PM while lead cook answered his cel phone, TWICE and continuously swung a dirty towel around the open kitchen. Lead cook wore an FBI (female booty inspector) shirt in plain view of the dining room. NO employees wore a uniform or had any professional look to themselves whatsoever.

Food was wildly over-cooked, very over-priced for the value and atmosphere - not appropriate for families. Will be sure to disrecommend to others, but since it's a vacation spot, probably won't affect the business or management's approach to dining.

Oh, and the wet-dripping hands dishwasher carrying stacks of 30 plastic cups with his hand directly touching the rims of the glasses had all of us asking for straws!!!

Just recently came back from a trip to N. Myrtle and was very interested to read up on Calabash style seafood. This site has certainly helped to answer all of my questions. Unfortunately, I really didn't get as much of a chance to sample these foods as I would have liked. Since I had such a great time down there, it will be my intention to visit Coleman's on my next trip to the area. Thanks for the tips!

First time I had eaten in Calabash in years. The atmosphere was great since we had a corner window seat with wonderful view of the docks and marshes. However, the food quality was disappointing. We ordered fried platters and the shrimp was very disappointing. Given that there are resteraunts to either side of Coleman's. I would give either of those a try before eating here again

We have been going back to Coleman's for 30 years now on our almost yearly trips to Myrtle Beach. It's a small restaurant, almost diner like, so don't go for the looks of the restaurant. But the food is Awesome! Best hush puppies!!! They give you LOTS to eat, great value! We also love the view of the river and a great place for pictures. From the outside, it's a place we would usually pass up. But don't! It's worth the visit! We go at least once if not twice every visit to the beach. We're going back in just a few weeks, and I can't wait.

We were told to eat at Coleman's. Two meals were their Coleman's fried shrimp, 1 stuffed shrimp and 1 fried flounder. The best meal was the fried shrimp. The flounder was over cooked and the stuffed shrimp wasn't a favorite. We would go back for the fried shrimp and to try their oysters. Their hushpuppies and honey butter was outstanding. (we asked for seconds). Our waitress was very good and the restaurant was very busy. The next time we go to No. Myrtle Beach we will make the trip to Coleman's.

Every year we come to Myrtle Beach, we make it a point to eat at Coleman's at least twice. My mother-in-law remembers eating here over 60 years ago! The food is excellent, starting with the hushpuppies served with honey butter. Our favorites are the cold boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, and fried oysters, but everything is fresh and delicious. The sweet tea is also some of the best. I would say our service has been outstanding 99% of the time. We have been here so many times, it can be expected to have a poor service occasionally, but I don't lay the blame on the restaurant itself. While we come here for the food, the view of the water is also great. Traditionally after eating, we walk to the pier where the shimping boats dock. Calabash is only a few short miles from North Myrtle Beach. I highly recommend you include a visit to Coleman's in your vacation plans.

Our favorite place to eat in Calabash... We like to go for the lunch specials... You get a complete meal with tea for about 7-8 bucks and it's all you can eat.... Nice view of the water and a friendly wait staff.... Strongly recommend this place!

We have tried the other restaurants in Calabash and Coleman's has them all beat!!! Hands down!! The service is great, the waitresses are great, and the food is served "quick as a wink" and its hot and tastes great! The portions are HUGE too! You'll enjoy anything you have here!

We have been eating in Calabash for over 25 years and always went to Dockside, Nances, or Captain Johns. My wife and I found ourselves in Calabash without the rest of the family and decided to give Coleman's a try. It was a mistake. The food was not hot, didn't taste fresh, and was a long time in coming. I would definitely recomend Nances or Captain Johns. Must get calabash shrimp if you go!! At Nances ask for their homemade cocktail sauce.

We visit Coleman's 3 or 4 times a year during trips to the NC coast. It is by far the best of all the restaurants in Calabash (and we've tried them all). The service is great and the food even better! You'll never be disappointed with the original! Ask for a sweet tea to go and take a walk down to the docks after your meal....it's a Calabash tradition!

This restaurant has the absolute best seafood on the east coast. We have traveled from Maine to Key West and this is still our favorite. We make sure to visit every time we pass through. The fish and shrimp are the freshest you can get and the hushpuppies will melt in your mouth.Service is great too! PS-Best waterfront view in the area.

We have been visiting Myrtle Beach every year since I was a small child. We always visit Coleman's 3 times during the week we are there. This is the best seafood I have ever eaten and, I have been raised on seafood all of my life. They heap the seafood up on your platter rather than french fries. I have never had even close to a complaint about anything at this restaurant. I will continue to dine there every time I am visiting Myrtle Beach.

We'd heard about Calabash seafood for years and decided to try it New Years afternoon. We're seafood lovers and know great seafood when we get it. Having read the reviews, we chose Colemans. It's a sad & drab place, long past its prime. The view didn't redeem it as windows were smudged and dirty. Those hush puppies are OK but that "honey butter" is strictly commercial in a little sealed plastic container, one per diner. A ~$5.00~ soft shell crab side dish (one crab) was thick with batter, greasy and way overcooked. The famous Calabash Shrimp (so our server told us) were POPCORN shrimp, like at Popeyes. Those are tiny little things so we ordered the more expensive "Fantail" along with oysters for our combo. The fantail shrimp were small, average taste, overcooked, a bit rubbery, and not fantailed. The oysters were good but a small serving of cole slaw in a styrofoam dish was dull and tasteless. The beer & wine selection is very limited (Bud, Bud Lite, Miller, Miller Lite, no draft beer at all) and my beer was cool, not cold. Our server was very nice, the table next to us wasn't so lucky and they seemed to be very frustrated at their long wait...arriving about when we did they were finally served as we were leaving. The only thing that wasn't average was the price...over $50.00 for 2 before a tip. Your server can't take your money/plastic and you have to stand in line at a cash register to exit. I can't imagine why we'd return there.

THE BEST calabash dining at the beach! This is Myrtle Beach's best kept secret. Seafood is LIGHTLY breaded before it is cooked so you still can taste the great seafood flavor. I highly reccommend the shrimp.

Over-priced and not very good food. Seems to have the view of the river as the only thing going for it.

You want *real* Calabash food, heaped up in Calabash style? You want the original restaurant that was so good it made Jimmy Durante make the town a world-wide name? This is it - the home of the late Ella Coleman, the "Mrs Calabash - wherever you are." Well, she was here, and the food and friendly service is still worth telling the world about.
