Very nice restaurant, usually visit once or twice in a week long visit. Flounder stuffed with crab exceptional, grilled mahi mahi and steak were delicious. Start with bread, cinnamon rolls and hushpuppies, bread is only OK but the rest was excellent. Scenic view of lake with wildlife, and prices also not as high as other restaurants of this caliber. Highest marks

Special mahi-mahi was dried up, lobster pot was too rich, crab cakes were more breading than crab. Probably will never go back!.

The quietest place I have ever eaten at the beach. You can get seafood anywhere at the beach but this was cooked to perfection and flavored just right.

Went to restaurant for 3lst anniversary. The food was excellent Best Flounder I have ever had. Flavorful and flaky. Husband had chicken the was melt in your mouth tender. Bread basket was very good. Had 2 slices french bread, 10-12 hush puppies and 2 melt in your mouth cinnamon rolls! After we finished eating, the server ask if we were going Christmas shopping. We told her we were there for our 31st anniversary. She proceeded to give us a slice of key lime pie on the house.

We stop in on the way home. Heard the food was great. I don't know what they ate when they were there, but it's not as good as advertised. I had the sea food platter broiled. It was ok. My wife ordered Fried chicken, and veggies. The waiter brings out a plate with three white meat breast that look like they were cooked in dirty oil. They were so dark it looked like they were burnt. She asked for a leg and thigh. I've lived here for 20 years, and this is one place I will never return to. Very poor.

My wife and I were in there 0n July18th. The food was tasteless to the point of me almost asking for my money back. As I told them on e-mail I was raised on the Chestapeake Bay and am 67 years old so I feel I know what GOOD seafoog is, this is not! The shrimp and scollops were almost to the point of being raw. I paid about $7 more at the Flying Fish, now that is quality seafood. What bothers me the mos is no return e-mail and I asked for a Military discount & was told they do not take it. As I told them I was defending our country so they could open this restraaunt in 1971. NO THANKS I will never go back do yourself a favor & don't go at all.

This restaurant was recommended to us by someone who visits MB every year. When we arrived we were told it would be a 30min. wait for my family of 12. After waiting for 1 hour and 30 mins. and being told by the hostess several times it would be 10 more mins. my family had to leave and find another place to eat. We had a family member headed home after our meal and had a 6 hour drive so we could not countinue to wait "10 more mins." It was the most unprofessional staff we have ever delt with. We saw many parties come, eat and leave while we waited outside being told we could have the next table. I refuse to believe they have only one table that would accommodate 12 people, but that is what we were led to believe. We were not impressed with anything to do with this place or the surrounding area.

Been going to Myrtle Beach for 20 years. This is the "Best". Even on a bad day their food and service is great. Anyone saying otherwise probably works or owns another restaurant!!! This is the first restaurant we go to when we arrive and the last one to eat at before we leave.

This is the worst dining experience I have ever had. We come to Myrtle Beach at least 3 times a year. The food portion size was smaller than last year and the prices have gone up once again. The fish was watery and from working in a restaurant I can tell its not as fresh as they claim, its been frozen and who knows how many times its been frozen. The server was slow, the soup had a taste to it that didnt make me want anymore and the scallops were rediculously small. I dont beleive they weighed them when they portioned them. The only thing which made the night decent was watching the turtles and the alligator in the back. Will not be coming back to this establishment in the fall. When we tried to talk to the manager in regards to our dislikes, we were blown off and we didnt want a free meal. We felt our problems needed attention.

I have been going there since before I was born as my parents love Mrytle Beach and have been going there for years. I am now 28 and going to Chesapeake House is a yearly tradition for us. I have loved the fish stew there for years and I remember how excited I was when I was little the first time I learned I could get the fish stew as a meal. On top of the great food, drink, service and entertainment of "Wally" and turtles in the lake, the people of Chesapeake House surprised me yesterday by granting my request for the recipe of their fish stew appetizer. I can't wait to try and cook up a batch but I know it won't compare to what I get there.

March 2011. First time we have tried Chesapeake House. We had a party of 6. Have eaten at the sister restaurant next door many times. Our service was excellent. The fish soup had a little "bite" to it but I found it excellent. Our table ordered a variety of items including king crab legs, scallops and fish. We will return again!!

Cannot understand how this restaurant is rated #1 in the MB area for seafood (2010 poll) other than they got a lot of regulars to vote. Went after the rating and newspaper articles and were unimpressed with the food - I can name 20 restaurants with far better seafood. We recently went back to try again. Service was good as are the cinnamon rolls and hush puppies, but the seafood again mediocre. Lobster pie did have a lot of lobster (tough) and crab meat but was tasteless. Ditto the shrimp and grits and crab cakes. Take your money and tastebuds elsewhere!

Ate here on 11-15-10 and loved it! Very awesome view of the lake, very quiet, elegant but not to fancy. Nice place for a romantic dinner with a view. Food was outstanding. We ordered the grilled scallops appetizer (free w/ coupon!) and it was so delicious I ordered more for part of my meal. Also great fried oysters, and the shrimp was good as well. Have been looking for the last couple of years for a new restaurant for a romantic evening, because of the decline of Sea Captains House. I have now found it! We will definately be back!

Great for people over 70 this is for sure an old people's type restaurant. The fish had no taste at all had the flounder tried to doctor it up with salt or something but was tasteless. The salad was horrible and the fish soup they give you before your meal is horrible and so darn fishy. Their fountain coke is horrible tastes like rust. Not happy at all with this restaurant not sure what people see in it. Yuk!

Terrible sums it up. The Scallops were very small, wrapped in Bacon about the size of my pinky. Thank God for the bacon, they were bad. The sea food platter came and the schrimp was the only thing eatable. The crab cake and deviled crab were the frozen kind you get at a cheap grocery store with NO meat, all filler. The flounder was dry. The she crab soup was luke warm and no crab meat. We sent the butter beans back because they were BROWN and dry. We asked why they were not green and were told these are different. Top it off, a hair in the apple sause. This place SUX.

Attention to detail and excellent service DO make a difference. If you want seafood prepared and cooked by chefs that know what they are doing, go to the "Chesapeake House." Our waiter took care of every detail, including extra hushpuppies and a special salad for my granddaughter. The seafood was delicate and served hot, eventhough it was a packed house. There is a reason these people have been in business since 1971.

First time eating there. Best part of this restaurant is the view outside, atmospere, and bread basket served before dinner arrived. Service was decent. Overpriced crab cakes I ordered were terrible. Nothing but filling in them with little to no crabmeat. Comparable to a large hushpuppy. Dry as could be. Scallops came halfway warm which made them taste equally as bad. A huge disappointment and will never return. No idea how they have ratings like they do..

We have been to myrtle beach for more than 20 years and i cannot believe we have missed this place for 20 years. This restaurant was very hospitable, very southern hospitality from the staff and environment, it was amazing. The food was spectacular, very reasonably priced for how much they give you, plus there bread, hushpuppies and cinnamon rolls that are free are the best i have ever tasted(probably because they add sugar or something to their dough). I would completely recommend this place and i cant wait to go back.

This place has very good food and the reason we have been here 3 times in 2 years. Although, the last time we went the service was really bad. First, we get there about 8pm and its a 1 hr wait. We see some seats in the bar area and decide we will eat in there. After waiting 30 minutes for someone to wait on us I overhear someone say that you cant eat in the bar area(first place Ive ever seen not serve food in bar). OK, thats fine, but can we get someone to at least come get us a drink?? Afterall, we were sitting in the bar. Once we get seated it took forever for a waiter to help us. He forgot to bring us bread and another waiter noticed and brought us some. We order lobster and they bring no butter. So we ask for some and he brings us cold, melted butter. We ask if we can get something to warm the butter with and he never brings it. Finally the waiter admits that he was having a bad day. We paid way too much money for that kind of service. Bottom line, go there if its not busy, otherwise, choose another.

Just made our 1st visit to CH in October and it will NOT be our last! Food, portions, service & quality were ALL extremely good. I have an "above average" appetite and usually need a Big Mac after seafood platters in other seafood restaurants but I couldn't finish mine here,,,The scallops were superb and very plentiful. CH will be an automatic visit on every Myrtle trip from here on out & I highly recommend it!

We brought a party of nine into Chesapeake House for some good seafood and were not disappointed. Chesapeake House is a family owned establishment. We were seated promptly as per our reservation and our server Brian was there immediately for our first round drinks. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and patient with our group (20 somethings who had been drinking at the beach all day). The wine list could be a little bigger, however they have one of the lowest markups I've ever seen. Throughout the experience service was prompt, food was on time, glasses were never empty and perhaps most importantly: the food was phenomenal. Everything was fresh, of the utmost quality and so delicious that we preceded to eat ourselves into a food coma, for the sake of eating everything on our plates. Strong recommendations go to the "She Crab Soup," the crab cakes (among the best I've ever tasted), the broiled seafood platter offers some tasty variety, the white wine sauteed flounder and shrimp was savory and the salmon topped with fresh crab meat and hollandaise put me in a happy place. Thanks again Brian for the great time. Highly, highly recommended.

Great locally-run seafood restaurant. Have been going to Myrtle Beach for 24 years and always spend one night here. Great food at average MB prices. Diners receive complimentary fish stew, delicious cinnamon buns, and hush puppies with meal. Fresh seafood--not just fried, can get broiled, grilled, etc. When our kids were little, we always enjoyed visiting the alligators and turtles out back afterwards. Accepts reservations.

We have been dining at the Chesapeake House since 1982 when my girls were small. It was our favorite place we always looked forward to. My little girls are now all grown up and we continue to come with five grandchildren, whom have come to enjoy this restaurant as much as their parents. It is always our very first and last restaurant meal on our vacation every year. We are coming again in August, and already we are talking about how much we are anticipating our trip just to dine here.

This place is a tourist trap because everything on the menu is over priced to where your looking at the kids menu to find a meal under $10. I finally decided to order the chicken dinner salad and was very disappointed when it came. The lettuce looked like it was last nights leftovers and the chicken was hard as a rock and very cold. I don't like to complain but felt like I had no other choice. When my plate was returned the chicken was even harder to chew then before (it was microwaved). So I just payed my bill and was thankful I hadn't brought my family here.

If I had a last meal on Earth, it would be there...especially the fish stew. We'll be at Myrtle Beach this August and the Chesapeake House will be visited again by me!

For the past 22 years I have been coming to the beach and only twice have I eaten at this restaurant but only because my grand children forced me to. They enjoy the view but hardly ever touch their food. I tried several items that were poorly cooked and lacked any real taste. Trust me this is not a place to eat for anybody.

I remember going to the Chesapeake House in the 70's as a young child. The food, service and atomsphere are excellent. The seafood is very fresh, and you will almost always see an alligator from the window! I am glad I can share the tradition with my children! They love it too!

One of the best dining experiences we have ever had in Myrtle Beach (and we usually go 3-4 times a year). We were seated very quickly and the view was beautiful! The service was outstanding: very prompt even though he was busy. The food was great! I had the Chesepeake Baked Flounder (yum!), my husband had the fried creek shrimp (excellent!) and our son had the child's spaghetti (great!). The hushpuppies and cinnamon rolls....well, thinking about them now makes my tummy growl! This is truly a class act! We will be back when we return in March!

We have dined at Chesapeake House for several years. We vacation in M. Beach several times a year and Chesapeake House is a "Must" for dinner. The grilled shrimp and scallops is outstanding! Everyone in our family loves this restaurant, as well as the outstanding service.

Great place to eat. The value for the money was good. It was not over-crowded and the waiter made us feel welcome. Nice view of the lake. I strongly recommend.

Visited Friday, 9/28/07. for Dinner as a result of reading the ratings on this site. Late season and the four of us didn't have reservations so there was a short wait so we visited the bar for a drink. Bartender was alone and waiting on both tables and bar but worked quickly and was very friendly. The only mixed drink ordered was a Manhattan which seemed small in size contained a generous amount of liquor. Shortly after the drinks arrived we were called to the table. The dining room sits out over the edge of a lake or lagoon and we were fortunate to get a window side table. The alligator who normally lays out in the sun to entertain the customers had just gone in the water for the evening. Dining room is informal and cozy with subdued lighting but certainly not dark. Our waiter was a pleasant young man with a good sense of humor but he didn't overdo the entertainment. The four of us agreed that the food quality was above our expectations. A special "treat" served to all diners is a small cup of fish stew. Two of us liked it the other two passed. I had the Chesapeake House Flounder, a large piece of flounder topped with crab meat and then baked. My wife ordered a fried seafood platter of shrimp, flounder and crab cake served in generous amounts. She very reluctantly left half the crab cake. One friend ordered the Fried "Creek" Shrimp. We had never encountered "Creek" shrimp which turned out to be much larger than the waiter had led us to believe. She also could not eat all those shrimp. Our non-seafood friend had a baked spaghetti dish which he was quite happy with. We dad excellent service, great food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere so it was a great experience. We've recommended to others.

This is a nice, unassuming restaurant on "Restaurant Row" on the north side of Myrtle Beach. We showed up around 8:45 PM on an off-season Monday night, so the place was shutting down. Nonetheless, the greeters & servers were friendly, helpful, and didn't rush us. I had grilled sea scallops, which were fantastic, and a crab cake, which looked like it was straight from the freezer, but was a pleasant surprise as it was moist, tangy and chock full o crab! My wife had the frilled salmon special, which was a tad bland. With the entrees came a small cup of fish stew, a thick tomato-based stew which was a highlight -- next time, we'll both be ordering that on its own. Also there was a standard iceberg salad & baked potato. Finally, they served a bread basket with divine cinnamon buns, and given the build-up (touted as the best I would ever have), thick and disappointing hush puppies. So the bottom line: A nice, solid, friendly restaurant with some ups and some downs. We'll go back!

First time in 27 visits to MB, we tried Chesapeake House this summer as a result of the constant excellent ratings we would read about. We walked in with no wait at 5 PM and were welcomed warmly. I looked forward to trying the cinnamon buns and the cup of fish stew and was not disappointed. We ordered both surf and turf plates and enjoyed them. The wildlife on the pond was an added feature to the ambiance. We had no room for dessert but were intrigued by the choices. In the end, this was our dining highlight of the week. Good job, Chesapeake House. These Canadians will be back!

We visited The Chesapeake House for the first time in June. Our meal was delicious. The portions were more than enough and the bread and hush puppies are undescribable because they are a meal in themselves. Our table was near the water, so we had a great view of the turtles and an alligator. I've already recommended this restaurant to 2 of our friends who are planning to visit Myrtle Beach in August. A plus for us at this restaurant, one of the waiters was from New Castle which is near where we live.

My husband loves to go to the Chesapeake for the cold boiled shrimp, which you can't find in many restaurants. The hush puppies are excellent and the view is very nice. My family has been there several times and we never had to wait. The Chesapeake is on our list of favorites.

It is a nice relaxing place to eat after a long day at the beach. Kids were entertained by looking out the window at the turtles and an aligator. Food was hot and good. The sweet tea should be much better at place that nice.

Our first time to visit and we were very pleased. From the begining to the end was delicious. I had the Early Bird seafood platter. My husband had the clam strips. The flounder was very tasty. Shrimp and deviled crab were good. Hush puppies were a little sweet, but we liked them anyway. Our server was very watchful and helpful. Enjoyed a window table and watched the alligator and turtles. Food was fresh and well prepared.

We love Chesapeake House. The food is excellent and so is the service. The tables next to the window have an excellent view of the water and fountain. We have been many times and have never been disappointed. The only complaint I have is that their hushpuppies are so darn good, I can hardly hold my entree when it comes. :)

My wife and I have been to the Chesapeake House twice. Our first visit there was during our summer vacation, 2005. Our most recent visit was during the summer of 2006. My wife wants to make it a yearly summer vacation tradition. We only had a very brief wait each visit, less than 5 minutes each time. The noise level and atmosphere are both conducive to a great night out with that special person. The quality of seafood is well above average. The rolls, bread, and side items are outstanding. The wait staff has always been very nice - full of southern hospitality. The value for your money is good. It is slightly expensive; however I have not yet been disappointed or left hungry.

This is a wonderful place to eat! The meal was the best seafood we've had in the area. We had the early bird special, which came with homemade hush puppies (the best!!) and bread, salad, entree with side, and great homemade cinammon rolls. The restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. The pond with the alligators out back was really neat. Our waiter was superb and friendly and it was overall the best dining experience we had in Myrtle Beach. We will be back for sure.

We have eaten at the Chesapeake House every vacation since 1976. Our children were raised with the expectation and excitement of eating here during our annual beach vacation. Even now, if you mention seafood, someone is going to share what they consider to be the best meal they ever had at the Chesapeake House. We just ate there the other night, and throughly enjoyed the meal. Our waiter was very attentive to us and the food was exceptional. We enjoyed fond remembrances of times in the past when all our extended family would gather here, almost like a seafood thanksgiving. It truly doesn't get any better! And of course, we finished the experience throwing hushpuppies to the Turtles and Alligator.

Dinner at the Chesapeake House has been one of the highlights of our vacation to Mrytle Beach for a number of years. As we drive the 1,475 miles from Minnesota to the beautiful shores of the Atlantic, we discuss what we are going to eat at the Chesapeake! This year was no exception. Fried Flounder is our all-time favorite! But, everything we've tried has been wonderful! Brian S. is the greatest server. Over the years, we've requested his tables. He's become a part of our "Myrtle Beach" family. We just returned from our week at "the beach". We ate 3 of our 6 dinners at the Chesapeake!
