The place was trashy and the food was awful and you could tell most of the food served was not home made it was frozen or out of a can. They claim 2nd generation german and that may be but as far as the cooking they have no clue how to prepare real german food. If you want frozen or out of a can german style food this is the place for you. If you want real german food stay away. ref: 12505 |

We found this restaurant by visiting this web site and it was very good. It really is a different type of restaurant with the walls plastered with everything from post cards to posters and an area in the middle of the with couches and a TV like a living room. We were very happy with the food as it was very authentic and tasted great. We would go back to Bodo's again and would suggest it to anyone looking for a different kind of dinning experience. ref: 12070 |

I almost wish I could keep this place a secret, but that would not do these guys any favors. Frequent vacationers and locals already know what I know! What a treat! Eclectic atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent food. You will go back again and again for German beer, kraut, wurst, schnitzel, noodles, potato pancakes (make reservations if you want these), homemade meatloaf, house champagne salad dressing, and a plethora of dishes guaranteed to make your mouth water. Also, they are some of the nicest folks you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting. ref: 11349 |

My favorite bar in the world. Great music (after 9:00), food, and service. When I lived there for 8 years it was source of culture within the overcommercialized Myrtle Beach. It makes me smile when I hear they are still running strong. ref: 8226 |

Having eaten at Horst Gasthaus every year since I've been coming to Myrtle Beach (15 years), my wife and I decided to try Bodo's as a change. Big mistake! The food was not what we expected for the price and not nearly as good as Horst Gasthaus.
I ordered schnitzel with spatzle and home fries. My wife had the roast pork with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. Side dishes do not include any green vegetables other than the house salad.
When the food arrived, the first remark my wife made was that the portions were small compared to Horst Gasthaus even though the price at Bodo's was higher. Her pork was tasteless and her red cabbage tasted as if it had been reheated from the day before. My schnitzel looked as if it had come out of a package of precooked/prebreaded schnitzel, like you would buy in the frozen food section of the supermarket. The schitzel was covered by an overpowering sauce (chicken stock?) which often signals inferior meat. The only good point of the meal were the house salad with a very good house dressing and the homefries. My recommendation for anyone considering Bodo's is to save your money and go to Horst Gasthaus or German John's Cafe. ref: 7866 |

I've lived here at the beach for 8 years now and was in the service in Germany for 3 years before that. Bodo's is on my top 5 places to eat anywhere!!!!! Service is on top of things and social without being annoying. The FOOD is to say the least delicious!!!!! I feel sorry for people who don't realize that they are there and miss the experience. When Bodo's says that they are the only German Restaurant who plays Pink Floyd, Bodo's means it!!!!!! ref: 7643 |

Just took my father their last night for father's day. Everything was excellent. Food was delicious. The decor was fun. It was enjoyable. We've been to the Horst Gasthaus, and German John's new place, and Bodo's beats them hands down. We will be back! ref: 6369 |

If you like authentic German food... don't miss this joint. Awesome food, friendly wait staff, and an atmosphere that you can't describe without being there. Potato cakes that aren't those grease dripping things you get from chain restaurants, but as authentic as it gets. ref: 6188 |

I am from Germany and I can say this food is quiet authentic, although i had the feeling, that not all is directly fresh cooked...but for a reason...your can't cook a Sauerbraten in 20 minutes. The apple strudel was good, but not as good as i know it from Germany. I liked the variety of beer and the atmosphere of the restaurant. What i absolutly did not like was the German "Volksmusik"...thats probably more famous in the South of Germany, not the North where i come from. But a nice service, although the waitresses do not understand German at all or only a little. ref: 5839 |

Bodo's has been in business since 1984. It's appearance from the outside is quite understated, but the food is well worth going inside. My husband grew up in Germany, so he is always looking for authentic German food. We both really enjoyed our dining experience. I had the breaded pork with ham and cheese, pototo salad, and dumplings. Every part of my meal was amazingly delicious. I also started with a Bodo specialty, snails with champagne mushroom garlic sauce. Yummy. My husband had the wienerschnitzel, spaetzle, and home fries. It was also wonderful. After the meal, Bodo made a personal appearance at our table to ensure that we were pleased with our meal. We will definitely return here whenever we visit Myrtle Beach. ref: 5235 |

This is a true German restaurant. Few cities have a good German restaurant, much less an excellent one. The fare is typical, including schnitzel and sauerbraten, which are prepared perfectly. One has to order potato pancakes in advance or wait at least 20 minutes for preparation. They are the real thing!
The ambience is also European/eclectic. Anyone who is German or has been to Germany will truly appreciate the entire dining experience. ref: 4499 |

Wow! What a great restaurant! Last year, before going to MB on vacation, I scoped out restaurants online, and discovered rave reviews about Bodo's. Once in Myrtle Beach. I had to drag my family inside (the place doesn't look like all that much from the outside). Upshot? We had a blast! The German food was wholly authentic - obviously freshly prepared, perfectly sauced, and generous portions. The beers were out of this world, and everyone left vowing to return every year from then on. We'll all be back in Myrtle Beach the weekend of September 22nd, and I can already hear the Wienerschnitzel calling my name! Whether you're 'echter Deutsch' (real German) or just a wannabe with a taste for good food, Bodo's rocks!! ref: 3624 |

This was the first time I took my family to Bodo's. We were seated immediately upon arrival. My wife, who grew up in Germany, ordered the goulasch and I had the Jaegerschnitzel. The kids had Weisswurst and frankfurter and they had no problem substituting mashed potatoes for the german potato salad for the kids. I had a warsteiner Pilsner while I waited for the main course, then tried a Franzen (or something like that) Weizzen bier on tap. Both biers were great. Everything was great tasting according to the family members and I can definitely recommend the jaegerschnitzel. Awesome. The Black Forest cake was falling apart, but the waiter said that was because of the humidity. The waiter came by often to make sure everything was alright. There were pictures all over the walls of different parts of Germany and German music playing in the background. My only complaint was there seemed to be at least one fruit fly around at all times, trying to get a taste of my beer, but who can blame them? ref: 3622 |

We have not been here for approx 4 years, discovered it by accident and it is a must everytime we get to Myrtle Beach. I tell everyone to be sure and order a cup of coffee, it is to die for and asked what it was one time and was told it was a secret blend. If you do not order anything else, but be sure you do, at least stop in for a cup of the coffee. Cecily Brodniak ref: 1544 |

Man, what a place. I have gone by it a few dozen times and always wondered what was inside. This time (5/05) I ventured in, and with no regrets. From the atmosphere to the food, to the service, it's primo and 100% authentic. I've never been in Germany and probably never will, but this place is close enough. Very hip in my book. A must for classic rock (or 1970s rock) fans. The walls are decked with Pink Floyd memorabilia and the portions of food are very generous. I couldn't pronounce one item on the menu, however, I settled for the Beef Strog. and it was out of this world, as was the homemade German potatoe salad. I'm sold and I will return! As for BODO himself, what a great guy. Family run the way it's suppose to be. The beer is unreal!!!! Please post pictures ASAP. It's a must! ref: 560 |
