Review: The worst excuse for German Wienerschneitzel I have ever tasted. I am part German heritage and I also served in the U.S. Army in Germany. I have eaten Wienerschneitzel in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. If BODO's wishes to call this authentic German cuisine, then in my opinion they should go back to Germany and learn to do it correctly. Restaurant was almost empty--probably because most locals know better than to eat here. I will not return here nor will I recommend it to anyone.

Review: This restaurant is not for everyone. If you are expecting European white linen tablecloth - this is not the One. Very old, outdated building. This is not the place with murals on the walls. You will find some pictures, postcards and old newspapers taped to the walls over 20 year period. I travel to UK, France and other European countries a lot and kinds of know their cuisine. The Potato Latkes are A MUST! They are just like my Mom makes it! Only sooo much Bigger in Size. YUM. The rest of the food was good, can't say Excellent though. I felt that my marinated beef was cooked days ago and was just heated before served. Same for Goulash. The check was over $100 for a family of 4. And watch out for Gratuities that were ALREADY included in your check at 18% !!! This is NOT London or Paris, Dear Owners. So I really didn't appreciate it! Considering that there's not too many authentic West European places here - you might go there again. But they would not withstand the competition, if there was one here in Myrtle Beach.

Review: My wife and I visited this restaurant for the first time on Saturday. My wife was excited, being of German decent, to experience some German cuisine. The food was good, very few people (two other tables occupied). The absolute worst service I've received in a dining experience. The bartender was also taking orders and serving, everything (drinks, orders, food delivery, getting check) took way, way too long. I didn't even wait to pay the waitress (bartender), I walked up to the bar. To add insult to injury, a mandatory 18% gratuity added to the check! Never again. The first and last time we will visit this establishment.

Review: The food was excellent and the attention from the family was perfect. Bar none the finest potato pancakes I have ever tasted. The spaetzle was delicate and delicious. Home made red cabbage, not too sweet, not too sour, as my son said. "you can taste the cabbage properly." Sauerbraten that couldn't have been any more tender and still been sliceable was the centerpiece in a wonderful gravy, different from any other I have tasted and delicious. If you like German food or have never eaten it and would like to try it, this is the perfect place for you. If you're discerning enough to eschew the chains, avoid the tourist traps and delight in finding the hidden gems, here is the perfect place for you. The quirky, unique decorations are full of neat surprises, and the comment books one per table are filled with the rave reviews of past patrons. Oh by the way, if you don't try the strudel, with freshly whipped cream at the end you are doing yourself a serious disservice.

Review: My wife and I had our first Bodo's experience last night. The restaurant is off the side of the pier but can't be missed by the neon sign. When we walked in, we were innudated with German culture and a tremendous amount of "swag" that gave the feeling of being in Munich of Hamburg. We were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered a dark beer, which was cold and to my surprise quite good. My wife had her beer iced to make it even colder by the staff (she chose domestic) As we lamented over the menu, my grandmother who is now passed was from Hamburg. She immigrated to the US in the 20's. She made traditional German dishes for our family for years, so I was very spoiled with my palate and expected German tastes. I received my salad with champagne dressing, which was gone in seconds and warm pumpernickel bread which melted in our mouths. Washed down with a dark beer, the bread truly tasted amazing and had a slight savory after taste to it, which came from the beer enhancing it. This is the best German food I have eaten. My wife had the potato pancakes which were made from "scratch" and it took 20 minutes to prepare and worth every bite. She being 110 pounds, she ate the two 14" inch pancakes which she smothered in apple sauce and sour cream. All the time, commenting on how good they were. I had a bite (well several) and went for the ends of the pancakes. If German potato pancakes are prepared well, the ends of the pancake are crunchy and but not dry without grease or a wet taste. These were done perfectly and as I dipped my portion into the applesauce, I was very pleasantly surprised by the crunch, the taste and the fact that the pancake was warm and the potato in it was cooked all the way through, giving it that texture, that only a GERMAN can now and ENJOY!!!! The red cabbage was amazing, not too tart and just right. Egg noodles were fantastic and I devoured them along with my knockwurst and Bodo's version of bratwurst which they prepare with some kraut and onions which are simmered to a wonderful brown. The piece 'de resistance was that the server brought me both horseradish and spicy brown mustard to mix together before dipping my sausages into them and enjoying my meal. My wife and I live minutes from Bodo's and it's fair to say, we will be back for more than the potato pancakes, their chicken schnitzel looks amazing also!

Review: I live at Myrtle Beach year round. I know where the good places and the not so good places to eat out are! If you want a wonderful dining experience, food, atmosphere, like being greeted by family, food, did I say that already?? Go to Bodo's. It is without a doubt, the very finest of German food that you will ever try. The entire inside will take you back in time. The walls are covered with mementos from the past. The folks at Bodo's make you feel so welcome. Bev was our hostess/server. A really great lady who takes very, very, good care of her customers. I promise you that you won't leave hungry, offended, or un-entertained. But you will leave contented, full, happy, and will have made new friends. I am not overweight but I sure can "pig out" at Bodo's. Their food is to die for, don't miss out.

Review: The hostess that met us at the door was not very pleasant. The restaurant was cluttered and rather dirty. The water had a metallic taste to it. The portions were small and the food was just plain bad. The waitress was very pleasant. However, I would never return to this restaurant and I would not recommend it to anyone. We spent close to $100 for four people and it was a big waste of money. I actually went home and had something else to eat. You're better off getting a hot dog with sauerkraut from Burky's!

Review: Went to Bodo's twice during one week vacation this summer...fabulous and fun!

While at beach a couple of weeks ago, took a group of 8 who were really looking forward to it after our rave reviews...what a DISASTER!!

Sat in bar area....took 30 minutes to get beverages and almost 2 hours for food. Other patrons, who arrived after us, got bread and salad way before we did. When food finally arrived, it was brought to table in stages...those who got their food first, and waited for the rest of the table, had to eat theirs cold. When we questioned service, we were treated HORRIBLY by owner and server. There is no excuse for how we were treated! WILL NEVER GO BACK!

Review: As always the food and atmosphere of Bodo's can't be beat. My wife and I usually make our annual anniversary trip to the beach and our anniversary dinner has been Bodo's since we found it many years ago. The food is real German from our schnitzel to the strudel, we have never been disappointed there. It is so hard to find authentic real German food, trust me, being retired from the military we have traveled a lot and are usually disappointed by others that claim to be real. Yes it isn't a fancy place, it reminds you of some of the old guest houses we visited in Germany. I guess you would call just plain good old fashioned home cooking, German style. The prices are in line with any fine food restaurant, fast food priced nor over priced as many place at the beach. Yes we will return there again next year.

Review: I've vacationed in Myrtle Beach for many years. I can't believe I didn't find this place until two years ago. It is now a 'must' on every visit to Myrtle Beach.

The food is wonderful. It is one of the few restaurants in Myrtle Beach that is not overflowing with tourists. Don't go if you are looking for fancy dining. This is a very laid-back place where you are welcome to hang out on the sofa and watch TV with a beer or enjoy dinner in the dining room.

They're playing authentic German music, not ompah bands. I lived in Germany in the 80's and recognize a lot of the German pop music they play.

Review: I do not know what place the last guy went to but he must be out of his head. The food was great and the service was wonderful!. The prices were fine considering the level of work needed to serve real German food! I think the last guy must be Bodo’s competition. How can you be in business for so long if the food id no good. I think the last guy should keep going to Burger King!

Review: The place was trashy and the food was awful and you could tell most of the food served was not home made it was frozen or out of a can. They claim 2nd generation german and that may be but as far as the cooking they have no clue how to prepare real german food. If you want frozen or out of a can german style food this is the place for you. If you want real german food stay away.

Review: We found this restaurant by visiting this web site and it was very good. It really is a different type of restaurant with the walls plastered with everything from post cards to posters and an area in the middle of the with couches and a TV like a living room. We were very happy with the food as it was very authentic and tasted great. We would go back to Bodo's again and would suggest it to anyone looking for a different kind of dinning experience.

Review: I almost wish I could keep this place a secret, but that would not do these guys any favors. Frequent vacationers and locals already know what I know! What a treat! Eclectic atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent food. You will go back again and again for German beer, kraut, wurst, schnitzel, noodles, potato pancakes (make reservations if you want these), homemade meatloaf, house champagne salad dressing, and a plethora of dishes guaranteed to make your mouth water. Also, they are some of the nicest folks you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting.

Review: My favorite bar in the world. Great music (after 9:00), food, and service. When I lived there for 8 years it was source of culture within the overcommercialized Myrtle Beach. It makes me smile when I hear they are still running strong.

Review: Having eaten at Horst Gasthaus every year since I've been coming to Myrtle Beach (15 years), my wife and I decided to try Bodo's as a change. Big mistake! The food was not what we expected for the price and not nearly as good as Horst Gasthaus. I ordered schnitzel with spatzle and home fries. My wife had the roast pork with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. Side dishes do not include any green vegetables other than the house salad. When the food arrived, the first remark my wife made was that the portions were small compared to Horst Gasthaus even though the price at Bodo's was higher. Her pork was tasteless and her red cabbage tasted as if it had been reheated from the day before. My schnitzel looked as if it had come out of a package of precooked/prebreaded schnitzel, like you would buy in the frozen food section of the supermarket. The schitzel was covered by an overpowering sauce (chicken stock?) which often signals inferior meat. The only good point of the meal were the house salad with a very good house dressing and the homefries. My recommendation for anyone considering Bodo's is to save your money and go to Horst Gasthaus or German John's Cafe.

Review: I've lived here at the beach for 8 years now and was in the service in Germany for 3 years before that. Bodo's is on my top 5 places to eat anywhere!!!!! Service is on top of things and social without being annoying. The FOOD is to say the least delicious!!!!! I feel sorry for people who don't realize that they are there and miss the experience. When Bodo's says that they are the only German Restaurant who plays Pink Floyd, Bodo's means it!!!!!!

Review: I am from Germany and I can say this food is quiet authentic, although i had the feeling, that not all is directly fresh cooked...but for a reason...your can't cook a Sauerbraten in 20 minutes. The apple strudel was good, but not as good as i know it from Germany. I liked the variety of beer and the atmosphere of the restaurant. What i absolutly did not like was the German "Volksmusik"...thats probably more famous in the South of Germany, not the North where i come from. But a nice service, although the waitresses do not understand German at all or only a little.

Review: Bodo's has been in business since 1984. It's appearance from the outside is quite understated, but the food is well worth going inside. My husband grew up in Germany, so he is always looking for authentic German food. We both really enjoyed our dining experience. I had the breaded pork with ham and cheese, pototo salad, and dumplings. Every part of my meal was amazingly delicious. I also started with a Bodo specialty, snails with champagne mushroom garlic sauce. Yummy. My husband had the wienerschnitzel, spaetzle, and home fries. It was also wonderful. After the meal, Bodo made a personal appearance at our table to ensure that we were pleased with our meal. We will definitely return here whenever we visit Myrtle Beach.

Review: This is a true German restaurant. Few cities have a good German restaurant, much less an excellent one. The fare is typical, including schnitzel and sauerbraten, which are prepared perfectly. One has to order potato pancakes in advance or wait at least 20 minutes for preparation. They are the real thing! The ambience is also European/eclectic. Anyone who is German or has been to Germany will truly appreciate the entire dining experience.

Review: Wow! What a great restaurant! Last year, before going to MB on vacation, I scoped out restaurants online, and discovered rave reviews about Bodo's. Once in Myrtle Beach. I had to drag my family inside (the place doesn't look like all that much from the outside).

Upshot? We had a blast! The German food was wholly authentic - obviously freshly prepared, perfectly sauced, and generous portions. The beers were out of this world, and everyone left vowing to return every year from then on. We'll all be back in Myrtle Beach the weekend of September 22nd, and I can already hear the Wienerschnitzel calling my name! Whether you're 'echter Deutsch' (real German) or just a wannabe with a taste for good food, Bodo's rocks!!

Review: This was the first time I took my family to Bodo's. We were seated immediately upon arrival. My wife, who grew up in Germany, ordered the goulasch and I had the Jaegerschnitzel. The kids had Weisswurst and frankfurter and they had no problem substituting mashed potatoes for the german potato salad for the kids. I had a warsteiner Pilsner while I waited for the main course, then tried a Franzen (or something like that) Weizzen bier on tap. Both biers were great.

Everything was great tasting according to the family members and I can definitely recommend the jaegerschnitzel. Awesome. The Black Forest cake was falling apart, but the waiter said that was because of the humidity.

The waiter came by often to make sure everything was alright. There were pictures all over the walls of different parts of Germany and German music playing in the background. My only complaint was there seemed to be at least one fruit fly around at all times, trying to get a taste of my beer, but who can blame them?

Review: Man, what a place. I have gone by it a few dozen times and always wondered what was inside. This time (5/05) I ventured in, and with no regrets. From the atmosphere to the food, to the service, it's primo and 100% authentic. I've never been in Germany and probably never will, but this place is close enough. Very hip in my book. A must for classic rock (or 1970s rock) fans. The walls are decked with Pink Floyd memorabilia and the portions of food are very generous. I couldn't pronounce one item on the menu, however, I settled for the Beef Strog. and it was out of this world, as was the homemade German potatoe salad. I'm sold and I will return! As for BODO himself, what a great guy. Family run the way it's suppose to be. The beer is unreal!!!! Please post pictures ASAP. It's a must!
