5/3/2014 - The Admiral's Flagship has new management and has been completely renovated inside and out. They have all new menu items. They have all you can eat crab legs and their prime rib is to die for. Wonderful seafood, so many choices. Our family will go there again and again. Best place on the inlet indeed!! ref: 27569

My husband and I have been going there for years also. We went all the way there just for the buffet after doing out taxes in Andrews. The last time we went last year it was horrible. The food was cold and discusting. The people working there didn't care at all that it was bad and we decided we would never waiste our money there again. It was the worst experience ever.

Awful !! should have known better place was empty at 6:00 PM on a friday night ... Ordered flounder off the menu was was awful just put it aside and went to Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner tried three seafood resturants on ths Vacation all terrible ... These owners could care less what any of us think, they are oblivious and very rude. This is still the worst rest. in Murrells inlet. Way over priced and has not been cleaned in 3 years. I know someone who worked there and he said it is the worst kitchen he has ever seen.... ref: 24227

My family of crab leg lovers thought this restaurant was the best. Food came fresh from the kitchen right up until closing time. There were 13 of us and I mistakenly ordered for 15 and they adjusted the bill without a fuss. My kind of place. Friendly, family and fun. My husband and I tried this place last year because he loved it as a child. He had fond memories of going there with his grandpa. Well needless to say the place had gone downhill...and that's being polite about it. I tried the lemon meringue pie that I beleive his granpa passed up back in 1990. The one bright spot was the crab legs which my husband liked, and the service was fine. But if you are looking for a seafood buffet that has decent food on the buffet that was prepared within the last few days, keep looking! ref: 23014

Buffet was horrible. Everything was fried and greasy. Ive seen other reviews that say otherwise but i assure you it wasnt worth the time or money. By far one of the biggest disappointments in restaurant history. Also mexican workers who didnt speak english. Lost $53.30 there! ref: 22897

I used to come here with family as a kid and it was always a great experience. I hadn't been in long time so last summer my wife and I went while vacationing in MB. It was not how i had remembered. The crab legs were very good but other than that it was awful. Most the bar dried up and stale food. Drinks were even flat. Hopefully it was just a bad day, but it will definitly be while before i go back if ever. ref: 22893

We've been to this restaurant before and LOVED it. However, our recent experience was horrible to say the least. I had request steak, and they were out. So, I went to the buffet. The fish was talapia and flounder. The talapia was nasty. The flounder was just breading. Our waiter never came back to the table to refill our drinks, nor bring us our ticket. At the register, the person never asked about our experience. When I told her, she said - you should have told your waiter! I said - I couldn't. He never came back. She indicated she was going to "tell someone". It was not worth the $90.00 we spent. We will not go back. ref: 20828

Okay...where do I begin. First of all I am a local who has come to your restaurant in the past, must say that my family will never return. The food was nasty, and looked like it had been leftover from the night before. The fried oysters were horrible, and nothing else was any better. I think the best part of the meal was when we got our checks! The service sucked on top of that, and there was only one other table in the restaurant so there was no excuse for our horrible service we were givin. ...and the cashier lady was no help....told her how bad the experience was and her reply was well u should have told ur server....but how do u tell somebody something when they barely come to your table? We also went on to tell her about how all of the food on buffet was old and she said "well honey u should of let me kno, and I would have brought you fresh food from the kitchen....huh? That made absolutely no since, don't u think everybody that spends money in your restaurant wants fresh food? All I can say is wow! Really this place sucked! That may explain why there were only two tables in the entire restarant. Horrible horroble experience........never again ref: 20736

we have stayed away from this restaurant for a couple of years hoping the food would get better but sadly it has not,there was no food on the bar not because it was busy but they just didnt bring any,when it came it was very greasy and everything tasted the same, the choices for non-seafood eaters were burnt mac and cheese or some kindof gross sausage casserloe.needless to say my kids ate rice and croutons for supper............the $75.00 we spent for the early bird meal went right down the toilet(if you know what I mean) ref: 20410

OK! Love the place! Wonder why we locals can't wait for summer to end! You complain about everything! We are not here so you can find your pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! Yes, the local owners appreciate your business. Any slight problem and wham! Please see the managers of said locations. They are always happy to assist!
I read and evaluate a lot of complaints about local businesses.
Most are too funny or without merit!

My husband and I have been going to Myrtle Beach for the past 17 years. The Admirals Flagship was always on our list off favorite restaurants to visit. We mainly went there because of my love of crab leggs and the fact that it was all that you could eat. My husband, not being a crab fan, was happy just to eat from the buffet. However, after our last visit, Admirals Flagship has been removed from our "favorites list". The buffet food was awful and my first plate of crab leggs were cold and mushy. Didn't request a second plate. Couldn't believe how much this restaurant went down hill. We are going back to Myrtle Beach in September but you won't see us at te Flagship! ref: 20178

Absolutely terrible. Probably the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. I ordered Swordfish off the menu and it was completely inedible. Another in my party had steak and shrimp, and the steak was terrible. A third in my party ordered the fish platter and was literally sick the next day. No one in my party of 6 had even an average meal. When paying, overheard two other parties complaining of similar problems.
Just horrible. Very disappointing because every other restaurant we tried the whole week was excellent. ref: 20038

As ususal our return trip to Admirals was wonderful!
We enjoyed the buffet and service each time we went (twice during the week). It's always a treat too, to purchase the mints up front at the cashiers stand. We will be back next year as usual with our group of 16! ref: 19868

I dont care what people say, this is a great place to eat. I have been eating here since I was a child and always go back when I want seafood. It is the best price, best value, best service, best crablegs, best seafood, for the money. All these people talking about ordering from the menu, at a seafood buffet restaurant, come on. Go figure, I bet yall go to the Waffle House and order Pancakes, and complain about that. Or go too IHOP and complain as to why you cant get a waffle. Bottom line the menu is for people that dont eat seafood. This is not a steak house, a hamburger joint, a pizza place. It was like a seafood themed Ryan's...seafood slop really. We ate there with 2 adults and 4 children recently. Our bill was quite high-pushing the hundred dollar mark with tip as I recall. The 4 children made a meal (for $8 each) of hush puppies and butter because it was all buffet seafood and no way to order off a menu.The buffet macaroni could have saved the day but it was dried out and picked over by our early 6pm dinner. The crab legs were actually good. I wish they would have cleared the heaps of crab carcasses.Everything seemed dirty too.Avoid this place,unless you are just craving crab legs and dated decor. ref: 16797

I have eaten here twice, once a couple of years ago with just the family and most recently with a group of youth (23 of us in all). We got a great group rate and were seated as soon as we walked in the door. They do not have as many sides as some places but I only care about the seafood and I think it's very good and I love the crab legs!! I think it's a great place to eat with children because it's not that crowded. It's just off the beaten path, not fancy and that's ok with me. ref: 16226

About the only kind thing we could say about this experience is that we were quickly seated, and the noise was fine - given the lack of diners, that would be expected. Food quality was both poor and limited. Servers elected to eat thier meal at a vacant table. This was a poor $100 diner investment for 4 adults and 2 kids. When the cashier asked how our dinner was, I politely mentioned that it was not exactly what I had expected. Her reply - nothing at all. ref: 15133

We have been going to the admirals at least twice each time we visit the beach. At least for 40 years. We last ate there on monday 10/20/08 and got the buffet. Food taste was poor , hush puppies, oysters, and shrimp all tasted poorly. Dessert was not good, held over too long.. We went to this restaurant on the recommendation that i got from this website, but failed to realize that some of these reviews were quiet old. We were seated right away, but they did not have booster seats for my young children but the waitress did let my kids eat free (ages 2 and 5) which was a very nice suprise. I just got the buffet, which was terrible. The fried food was extremely greasy and the sides were very bland. My kids would'nt even eat the macaroni......which is really telling...... because that is their favorite food. I didn't get the crablegs, but my husband did. I have been eating at this location since the first time opening at Murrells Inlet. Love the food never have had bad food in all the years that they have been open. We use to line around the porch and in the parking lot to wait for a table. Always make one trip to the Flagship at each visit to the beach. Buffet meal originally was price was 4.95 it is still a good buy with the added vegetable buffet, dessets and seafood. Also fresh and hot........Good Sweet tea as well and dessets ref: 10393

Since I was a kid back in the 50s & 60s, my parents & brothers & I used to frequent the old Sea Captain's House Restaurant in Murrell's Inlet - which was then one of the very few seafood houses there. In the mid 70s (I think it was), we discovered a new and wonderful seafood restaurant called The Admiral's Flagship! My younger brother now lives in Myrtle Beach - and has lived there for many years, so my wife & girls & I have made many trips down. I must say we never eat at any other seafood restaurant! We love the seafood at the Admiral's so much. My absolute favorites are the shrimp (fried & steamed) and the oysters. (I'm getting hungry just writing about it!) The early-bird special at The Admiral's Flagship is a given when we're in the area! The only thing I wish they'd consider doing is putting table or wall mounted lamps on or over the tables in the back dining areas. It's so dark back there - at least it is to me. I was very disappointed with the Flagship. Besides the wait staff - which were very good, everythying else was a great disappointment. The buffet was average with little selection.
The fried food was overcook and not hot. The desserts were right out of a can or box. Most of my group had crab legs that were greatly overcooked and came out mushy. The quality of food and the price simply cannot be beat. I have been a customer for over 25 years and will be until they close the doors! Keep up the good work! I believe that 80 bucks for a family of 5 for a seafood buffet is quite reasonable at todays prices as mentioned in the post below. I will be visiting the Flagship more than once next week. ref: 7355

We visit Myrtle Beach every year, and we always eat at The Admiral's Flagship at least twice on each visit. The buffet is great, and I've never had cold food on the buffet. The fried apple sticks are to die for, along with the shrimp and vegetables. It's greasy, but welcome to the South!! You never have to wait long to be seated, and the price is very reasonable if you go to the early bird special (but it gets a little more pricy after the special ends). But it's a great place, and we're heading there next Friday night when we arrive to Myrtle Beach!! ref: 6893

I enjoy Admirals Flagship. It's really a pretty decent place. The crab legs are honestly the best thing on the menu but the price is a little high. My server was excellent. She was waiting so many tables and still had time to make sure my drink was full and my crab legs where plentiful. I believe her name was Jess. I think we ended up tipping her more than my crab legs! We have been going to the admirals flagship for many years. We took our teenage son, our college age son and both had a friend to eat. I paid for the whole trip except they were required to pay for their dinner meal. The boys said it was too expensive, but I told them, it would be worth the trip to murrells inlet (we were staying in north myrtle beach), and well worth the wait and money. Oh my! what a mistake. The food was fairly expensive and was awful. Everything tasted alike. Lukewarm, thinned soup and the crab legs were cold. And...everytime the boys would ask for more crab legs...it took forever to get them. They couldn't find our waitress for a while and then when we did get one, we rarely saw her. Had to beg for a drink! just a bad experience. I tried to call the restaurant and let them know how bad it was and was never able to get them on the phone. Just thought it might help the owner realize he has a major problem. I paid for the whole meal for everyone, because I just couldn't let the boys pay for such a bad meal. Wont be back!. ref: 5412

Have been going to admiral's flagship since 1987 and it is a family tradition. We love it go there two to three times while at myrtle beach. You get seated right away the food has not changed in 20 years. I think it is still a hidden jewel. My family will eat there every july until they close the doors . ref: 4616

This is the best seafood buffet & crab legs the greater Myrtle Beach area has to offer. There's no harsher food critic than my mother, and this is the only seafood buffet she'll go to! Note that crab legs are served hot and not on the buffet, but they'll bring you as many orders as you can eat! ref: 4145

Was given the name of this place by a longtime visitor of Murrells Inlet, he said the crab legs were to die for. Well they weren't. First leg group were ok, then the other three were cold, waitress figured less trips for all-you-can-eat. Rest of the food could have been bought at piggly. Will not be back... ref: 3617

We haven't visited the Myrtle Beach area for 6 years. We remembered how great Admiral's Flagship *used* to be and decided to go visit them again...what a mistake!! The mediocre seafood was very greasy and not even hot. The crab legs were ok, but the buffet didn't include them..they were extra!! The buffet, for the quality, was extremely overpriced. The food is great! My whole family has been going there for 21 years while on summer vacation. But I am sorry to say it is coming to an end, because their prices are too high. My family of 5 was $80 plus with tip! That is the Early Bird price!!!! I will miss the great seafood. ref: 3423

We had the buffet. Ugh...the food was cold, and the selection was underwhelming. Worst of all seafood offered was the deviled crab (deviled crap). The soups looked and tasted as though they had been thinned to strech the number of servings. Even the salad bar was bad. Hardly any items normally found on other bars were offered. I first visited the Admiral's Flagship in the early 1980s and it was very good at that time. It left a very memorable impression upon me. I returned again in the 1990s and then recently in June of 2006. Again, in my opinion, the food was excellent. I have tried other seafood places but Admiral's Flagship is my favorite. ref: 2925

We have been going to Myrtle Beach 2 times per year for 32 years. We were told about Admirals Flagship and always went there at least 2 times each trip. We took some friends to Admirals Flagship 2 years ago and told them how great the food was. We were so embarrassed after bragging so to them. The food had no taste. When we went back last week with this same couple, we decided to give Admirals Flagship another chance. All 4 of us decided this would be our last trip. It is hard to believe the cooking has changed so much because it was always our favorite place. If I owned this restaurant, I would want to know that I needed to return to my old method of cooking. AS a child I remember going to Myrtle Beach and eating at Bay Harbor. After it closed many years ago my family started going to the Admiral's Flagship. I was probably near the age of 10 at that time. I am 33 and have a family of my own now and visit Myrtle beach a few times a year and there is nowhere I would rather take my family to eat. The food is great. They dont have the items alot of other buffets have but what they do have is quality food. The price is a little high but if you arrive between 4 and 6 pm it is a little cheaper. Our family has been eating here for years. Everytime we visit Myrtle Beach, ADMIRALS FLAGSHIP is on our stop to eat. The food is not piled on the buffet, but refilled as necessary to ensure it is always fresh & hot. You may not get 120 items, but EACH item will be fresh, hot and tasty. This place is locally operated and they take pride in your attendance. If you want to get away from the Mammoth Buffets with very little taste and a lot of noise, then come here! This is one of the best places in Myrtle Beach. We come here at least once (sometimes twice!) when we visit. The food is awesome, and you don't have to fight people at the buffet to get to the food.
